once again living vicariously through writers, artists, performers, adventurers, fictional characters, historical figures, and anyone else who has ever done or is doing anything even remotely interesting, etc., because i have no energy to participate in life myself and it's easier to maladaptively daydream my days away instead

i was pretty unstatisfied with the recently revealed spock vulcan science officer bishoujo figure because i felt like it missed the allure of spock completely.
so i made my own while still trying to confine myself into the limitations of the bishoujo figure style. oh and my vision for a bishoujo kirk is here too, complete with a variant with torn clothes as an easter egg for true fans.
the figure in question below:

writing is torture but unfortunately i am a writer and will legitimately die if i do not do it
#writerblr#writer memes#reading your own work trying to decide if anything is publishable is like taking repetitive psychic damage#however.#there are people who use a.i. to 'write' (disgusting)#and talentless editorless people who have migraine-worthy books on the shelves#so while self criticism is a feature of artistry that does not miss me#i feel slightly less worried knowing for a fact that i am both a human person who wrote something and that i carefully edit most of my work#and make sure not to make amateurish mistakes like Buttery Butter (smiled happily)#or like using the same uncommon word too often within a small space#unless its intentional for prose or rhyme purposes#you can reuse common words like said or the or and mostly as you like but usually dont use words like miasma a bunch of times in the same#same paragraph#flow. pacing. word choice. grammar. writing past a certain level is both creative and formulaic#past that certain level it takes no longer only talent or skill but a trained eye and a willingness to edit#it takes a lot of reminders and witty catchphrases for common mistakes and reading and rereading your own work#and most artists start disliking their work at a certain stage of this but#you have to push on#this is your calling. you must learn to banish self doubt and put in the hard work and time it takes to make something truly amazing#learning discipline is hard for me-- i ride on talent and inspiration a lot#but discipline is necessary because a lot of the writing process is tedious backreading editing research etc#obviously you dont have to do most of your editing on the first draft like i do#but you do have to get it done eventually if you want to truly get on the next level past just hobby writing#not that theres anything wrong with doing it just for fun and casually

i can't help but think that the most romantic organ Nigel could accidentally pull out of Alex would be the liver, not the heart. moreover, Nigel, with his precision, can do it. the liver is the most important gland of the body, without it you cannot live long; on the other hand, this organ is damn beautiful, but is easily mechanically injured. moreover, the liver is the hottest organ.
the opportunity to touch the warmest place in a person seems like a very romantic opportunity
the greater element of the forbidden and secret will take over the act of eating the liver. this, although usually part of a negative context, in a romantic light can be perceived as an act of deep connection between two people, in which the secret plays an important role. but this is already very dark romanticism.

i feel like one day ill be 37 sitting in my studio with no ideas on what to draw and will think "hmmm. ill just draw men" and start sketching, and then when im finished ill look at the paper and dave strider will be there staring right back at me
#and thats how ill be almost 40 and get thrown STRAIGHT back into homestuck.#ill post it in my art instagram#(instagram has become a second twitter after the og got bought by the us government and mark zuckerberg decided to profit off of that)#and my thousands of fans who adore my comic (about two guys doing fuck all i hope) will ask me#''looool whos th saucy son of sobbing clown poodle'' (internet slang for the time)#and ill type in with my old decrepit 2022 internet slang ''blorbo from my webcomic dave strider hes like the supreme skrunly''#(three people respond to it calling me a combination of old+new 2040s slur and im not sure which of them is joking)#they decide in the posts Debate Area (second comment section for discussions to prevent fights) that he is worthy of attention#and so the 4Th Homestuck Renaissance begins. in three days the hyper online fans (chronically online people but like worse)#put it on the Cool Page (trending but worse) and homestuck goes mainstream#funkopops of the characters are made within a week of this happening#and theres a new meme of putting the official dave strider resin figurine in a jar and caprioning it THROWING HIM INTO THE SHAKER. DRINKABL#someone mentions the rainbow dash jar meme and disappears misteriously#they find out homestuck is public property since hussie was murdered in 2024 and vis media quietlt shut down a few years later#and start publishing fanfic (top ship is jadevris in a surprising turn of events)#the davekat hate is still there but like worse and im one of the top creatores to get crucified (there are 56 buzzfeed articles on me)#this ruins my comic artists career and i kill myself in november 5th 2048#txt

I checked your FAQs but I didn't see it listed. Has fixing bad posts done anything to shape the way you think about negative words in person? Does your mind start put a positive spin on negative things irl? Sorry if this has been asked!
funnily enough, this has never been asked before!
in a super literal sense, no, i haven't started making blackout poetry from spoken phrases. however, running this blog has definitely shaped the way i approach impulsive anger/negativity.
here, i make a concerted effort to be measured, restrained, and conscientious about how i'm acting (overly so, perhaps). i block liberally, never reply to anon hate, try to prevent fights, extend as much compassion as i can spare, etc. i never made this effort on my main (not that my main was ever so popular).
i've been doing this for about a year now, and the persona i adopt to run this blog is more mature and patient than i used to be. i've been trying to be more like them in all things.
it's been working so far.

you know. back when i reviewed poetry submissions for [insert unnamed literary magazine here], i once got a submission containing only two poems (you could submit up to five) both of which were about the author's older brothers, whose names are dan and john (my older brothers' names are dan and jon...athan) and her relationship w them and descriptions of them were not all that unlike my own brothers. still one of the weirdest things that has ever happened to me
#i understand my brother's do not have the most exotic names in the anglophone world#(although this was an international outlet and we frequently got pleeenty of submissions from non-anglophone countries)#(in fact one of the reasons i got sick of it over time was seeing too many worthy poems be rejected for bullshit reasons#and that seemed to happen in especially high numbers to poems from perspectives of other cultures/international issues#that i found to be very well-crafted and objectively deserving! but u can only afford to publish so many poems a week right#so u have to pass over the vast majority of stuff. so u have to grasp at reasons like 'the voice is too close' whatever tf that means)#(that shit used to pissss meeeee offff. i hate literary magazine readers. it's a fool's job and i can say it bc i've been the fool)#however that being said. what a coincidence#tales from diana#they were good poems too. i think i gave them a thumbs up before they were eventually rejected like most other thigns that are worthwhile#did i ever mention the literary publishing world is bullshit? bc it is#especially especially the poetry side of it. completely bullshit and so out of touch w how ppl read and appreciate poetry nowadays#no wonder that shit makes no money. well that and nobody wants to pay for it anyway#but when it comes to my poetry i have no problem being a starving artist. i never made a dollar from my work#but i don't think my work has ever been worth a dollar. it's never COST me a dollar either#and as far as i'm concerned i don't really want to be appreciated much for it#not that i ever have been. well. lol#but it wasn't about me bc i have reviewed thousands of submissions but only submitted to like... a handful of outlets over time#and having been on both sides of that equation. i do think that that's not for me#sometimes i do think about self-publishing but i don't even think the work of that would feel worth it to me#and if i were to do that i would probably do it under a pen name.#i don't have a collection of poems. i just have poems. thousands of em.#if i ever get around to writing those plays i have outlined in my head i might consider it though#bring back the closet drama

-- i remember someone (who i am no longer mutuals with, so it's none of you, don't mind your pretty little heads) posting that blogs who have "a study in _____" were so pretentious. it rubbed me the wrong way because although i don't have that in my about page, this blog IS a study in multiple things. this blog was a way for me to process my own trauma, gender, and ed. although some of these themes are not blatant in my writing, a lot of my muses and plot ideas are therapeutic for me. and that's okay.
when it comes down to it, rp blogs are character studies and studies in themes. even if you're just a smut blog, you are a study in bodies and intimacy. never feel pretentious or uppity for labeling your blog as a study in whatever or as whatever you view it as. because "it's just an rp blog" doesn't make you any less of a writer or a philosopher (put the gun down), and this community really needs to foster that. it's fine if you hold the belief that your blog is just for fun and its just your silly little writings! some days i write for nothing but the good brain juice. however, a lot of people pour out their hearts and souls into this work. respect that and love that and acknowledge that.

14. What have you been finding frustrating with writing SotF?
Besides the timeline, lmao?
Honestly, I'd say it's probably a lot of characterization things. I can get into some of the characters' heads so easily (Daemon has so much wrong with him & Rhea has so muh going on), and then I'm sitting here with others like Rhaenyra & Criston like "tf do I do with you?" I can logically, at least sort of, come up with what they'd do, but getting in their brains to do it in a way that makes sense beyond "and then this happens because it makes sense for what I know about them vs the altered narrative of this AU" is such a struggle sometimes. Making some of these people be internally consistent is like going to war gjsjgnsjfns
Connective tissue is also hard sometimes, especially if it's not something I know I can skip over (chapter breaks that signify the passing of time, my beloved). I will, quite often, know a big set piece I want or need to get to, but stringing myself along from where I started at a good & decent starting point/some context/my current less major Event™ can be so difficult because I am both impatient and a rambler. Truly one of the combos of all time.
And in terms of my current chapter, as well as chapter 2, coming up with the actual meat of the event is sometimes a fucking Herculean task. In chapter 2, I knew I wanted Yorick to get reasonably traumatized by his time interacting with the gold cloaks, but I wound up eventually having to outsource suggestions for what specifically was going on there. My current "tf is the Event/build up/ship tease before the thing I want/need?" is figuring what exactly my dumb, moody daughter gets up to while under the supervision of The Strong Bros Babysitters For Sullen Teenage Girls®. And I know I'll get there eventually, but it's an uphill battle atm.

hello ari !! hope you’re doing okay! i was just wondering what you thought about this post about fanfiction. i’m half half on agreeing because i love meta about characters and them being developed specifically but i also see the elitist side that fanfiction is fun n let people have fun
hello luna my love!! ive been doing alright just a bit busy bc school!
i have a pretty strong opinion on published fanfiction becoming novels tbh... and i think it's mostly because of what fics end up becoming published as opposed to what fics deserve to be published and also what fanfics' artistic integrity is.
fanfiction is a mostly hobbyist form of creative writing. it has unique characteristics because it's derived from an already existing thing and is a mix of meta-commentary and original story. fanfiction is fun and people can have fun etc. but if fanfiction is something worthy of respect, there has to be some critical balance
let people have fun exists as a way to let people explore whatever they want and to prevent people from giving individuals unnecessary critiques. to me it's an honor code, don't harass people who make stuff you didn't enjoy, and never give people unnecessary criticism. because fanfiction exists on an individual level and everyone's relationship to it is unique. that shouldn't bar fanfic from being critiqued as a whole.
in general tho, good fanfiction takes on the role of both meta and original work. good fanfictions that i would consider worthy of publishing exist as adaptations. they honor the source material through accurate characterization and a subtle callback to original connections and relationships.
and for all of those reasons, i wouldn't want them to be published as og fiction because that's not what it is.
fanfiction is an art. it has a specific set of values that make it good and make it different from literature. to take it away from its source material should feel like stripping it of something very important. it should still be comprehensible, but good fanfic should in some way rely on the source material. that beautiful, mutual and expansive relationship is what makes fanfiction so great. it's why i always defend it and care so much about how it exists.
because of that, personally, i agree with the post completely lol. it's true that some works are so transformative of the source material that they could be published as original fiction and no one would notice. but those fanfiction authors typically don't want to publish their fics because they value their work as fanfiction and fanfiction alone.
the fics published as novels are normally generic fics in the first place. that lack strong writing and artistic integrity in order to fulfill fantasy - that aren't good fanfiction to begin with.
people can and should have fun with fanfiction. i don't think that takes away from any the point of the og post at all. rather, i think encouraging fanfiction writers to honor their work as fanfiction specifically is probably to the benefit of everyone.
fanfiction has an integrity all on its own. it's a medium worthy of respect stand alone. i think if more people recognized that, there would be less debate on trying to compare fanfic to published novels in the first place. apples to oranges yk

My Star Wars OCs: a comedic primer
if you’ve wandered here from ao3 you’ve probably encountered at least one of these people, but if you’ve found me through the vagaries of tumblr that is less likely so! Here is a list of my major ocs for your convenience for the next time I start going off about nothing whatsoever, organised by the story/universe they were introduced in:
Sometimes a Family Is verse
Ven/Shiny: she/her, Nautolan, Dogma’s adopted daughter. half-forgotten childhood trauma papered over with borrowed trauma from her family who spends most of her time clinging to anything clone-related that she can
Nalyan: he/him, human, totally not Dogma’s adopted son (he is they just don’t ever admit it). A poorly rested limp noodle of a person who is too busy doing bootleg medical research in the back of a beat up ship to go outside.
Clone Rebellion verse
Sneak: he/him, clone, formerly served under Krell [Sneak darling I’m so sorry]. puts up a very good front of being a cool collected criminal mastermind when on a con but also will jump off a bridge if you dare him to. as one does.
Nali: she/her, Twi’lek, smuggler/con artist. her soft spot for slaves and clones is a parsec wide, but also she’s usually the one daring Sneak to jump off a bridge
Nine: he/him, clone, still serving under Krell. baby Nine is a bundle of joy and every version of him after the first chapter is deeply deeply fucked, but that won’t stop him from also daring Sneak to jump off a bridge. while doing a flip.
Drum: he/him, clone, pilot in 327th. he likes music and singing and making way too astute observations about people, and is probably the only person on this list who doesn’t think people should be dared to jump off bridges. in general he's under the impression he's the smartest person in the room, and on rare occasions he's almost right.
Dead Brothers Rescue Coalition verse
Nel: she/he/they, clone, lieutenant in the Coruscant Guard. by circumstance they are a pencil-pusher and by passion they are a detective, but mostly they're just really bad at friendship. they make up for it with stubbornness.
Jesse Lives verse
Jale: he/him, theelin, scavenger freelance salvage worker. brightly coloured dipshit who loves his mother and has never effectively used a weapon in his life. preferred survival tactics are Talking Too Much and Being Useful, but also the first one tends to get him into trouble more than anything.
Time Slip verse
Arson: he/him, clone, maintenance on Kamino. absolutely full of little shit energy and voted most likely to commit the crime he’s named for. likes droids more than people, which considering the people he knows is absolutely fair.
Murder: he/they, clone, washed-up medic in training turned Kaminoan maintenance. would never ever hurt a fly but also spends most of their time making excuses for their more violent loved ones because ??? cognitive dissonance I guess.
Jaywalking: she/her, clone, maintenance on Kamino. knows all your secrets and is just trying to decide if she wants to blackmail you or kill you over them. the thing keeping her from doing the latter is usually the fact that Murder and Arson would be sad about it.
Other
Nobody: he/him, clone, ARC trooper who works almost exclusively with 212th. he is exactly as fucked up as his name implies, and also more so because his best friend used to be Slick. make of that what you will.
Pip: he/him, clone, 501st. a beautiful ray of sunshine who will see the worst person in the room, ask "is anyone gonna befriend them?" and not wait for an answer.
Roadkill: he/him, clone, 501st. the worst person in the room. really tired of Pip's shit.
Zeel: she/her, Rodian, doctor with a very very lapsed license. abrasive at the best of times, but also winner of the "Most Cameos in My Fics" award because she can't stop helping people. mostly clones. she's very annoyed about that fact, too.
More OCs can be found @shagpaboloutpost (clones) and @relevant-url-incoming (SWTOR)
