monday, 15th of august, 2022: i made no posts during sunday as i again had nothing noteworthy to write about (not that that’s necessary, but really it was a slow, lazying-about kind of day), but today was something interesting. apart from the usual bouts of dejection, ennui and boredom, i finally learned the basis of logical arguments, the difference between inductive and deductive reasoning, sound vs valid arguments, premises and inference etc. (all through philosophy tube’s video on the subject: here) and listening to their effervescent rendition of julius caesar’s famous speech was especially insightful. our county here in ireland is under orange alert for a storm, so there’s been a lot of rain, wind and overall thunderstorm shenanigans. i, finally got around to reading hamlet by william shakespeare (i’ve had the oxford edition for over a year now) whilst listening to an audiobook, and it’s been quite enjoyable. i’m making annotations as i go along, as we’re finally covering shakespeare in english this year, and i plan on getting somewhat ahead in course material. also, i’ve been making real progress with wuthering heights, and i’ve been enjoying a lot. i think chapters 14 through 17 are probably my favourite insofar regarding my current placement, but heathcliff can be a genuine, moving romantic. the dichotomy between his usual, seemingly permanent, brutish and disdaining attitude with his unyielding passion and love for catherine (particularly his articulation of it, which is to die for) is super interesting to read. all in all, a decent day. plus, i started a new series (a model family) and have finally gotten onto season three of locke & key. woot!
