Patara, the capital of the Roman province of Lycia, was one of the main ancient maritime and commercial centers of the eastern Mediterranean, on the southwest coast of Turkey. Because of its wealth and function as an important port in the eastern Mediterranean, Patara needed an aqueduct, both for the city and for the supply of visiting ships.

Do not worry if you cannot find me, you will find my belongings.

You will find the stones I cut, the paths I opened, the sculptures I carved.

And you will see that our fingerprints will touch each other from thousands of years away.

I took the photos in Patara, Turkiye, in 2008. When constructing this ancient cistern, in the 1st BCE, the worker had left their fingerprints in the mortar. You could reach across 21 centuries, and place your fingertips in theirs.
