So if Dark Pit is Pit’s repressed feelings he’s ashamed of then the inverse could also be true too; Pittoo is secretly a huge sweetheart who wants to be cheery and happy, and he misses being loyal to a goddess so for all his desire for independence, deep down that’s why he’s working for Viridi now. Being your own angel can be real lonely after all. And he’s fully aware of and hates these contradictory aspects of his personality.

so, there weren’t any intact mirrors in pandora’s labyrinth. how long do you think it took for dark pit to figure out he didn’t look like pit?

Seriously, though, I love Dark Pit as a character because he's, you know, a character. Most evil dopplegangers aren't really characters. Dark Link is just some shadow thing you fight with no foreshadowing. And even the ones who are characters are generally meant to be wrong. Shadow the Hedgehog (who, admittedly, isn't actually a clone of Sonic but is close enough) is usually meant to directly oppose Sonic's worldview, and is thus considered wrong because Sonic's worldview is usually portrayed as correct.
But Dark Pit is right and is portrayed as such. In fact, he's the only character in the game who is almost 100% right (except maybe Magnus). And I find that interesting. Not only is he his own character but his worldview is meant to be the correct one. Like, maybe he could stand to brood a bit less but when he calls the gods selfish schemers he's right.
