The 2nd seed Celtics play the 3rd seed Sacramento Kings tomorrow. Robert Williams is also set to return tomorrow as well. This is huge news for the Celtics as he is a core to their rim protection and defense as a whole. This game is a must win for the Celtics if they want to hold on to the 2nd see or compete for the 1st seed.

Expanding on my “the Monroes adopt Max and he becomes an even worse person” AU
- they take him in not long after he turns sixteen. His dad dies in some kind of freak accident, it makes the news and Linda recognizes the name because she knows everything there is to know about the history of the Honey Queen pageant and his mom won about ten years ago. She also knows that, like every other winner of that pageant, she left Hatchetfield and never looked back, meaning Max is completely alone now. She’s not sure why she cares about this complete stranger, but her heart breaks for him not having a loving home and she decides she can provide that. She’s a great mother, after all, and they already have four beautiful boys, what’s one more? Gerald isn’t as invested at first, but he agrees to it because he supports Linda in basically anything she wants to do.
-Linda keeps trying to give him expensive new things to cheer him up and make him feel like part of the family and she doesn’t understand why he’s reluctant to accept them. His dad was the type to act like providing basic needs (food, housing, etc) was a huge burden and always came with strings attached, saying stuff like “I put a roof over your head, I pay all your sports fees and you couldn’t even win that game?”. She and Gerald eventually figure it out and the next time Linda gives him something, she makes sure to tell him he doesn’t have to take it if he doesn’t want to, but it’s a gift that they got for him because they like him and they’re glad he’s here. That makes him smile for the first time since he moved in. He tells her that he’s glad he’s there, too.
-they try to stick him in an expensive private school, but he wants to stay at Hatchetfield High because he doesn’t want to give up his power there. They go back and forth over it for a few weeks and during that time, someone overhears them discussing it while out for dinner. This leads to a rumor going around school that Max is leaving and it gives all the nerds so much false hope that things could get better. In the end, they let him stay. There’s not a lot Linda and Gerald can’t get away with, but even they’re not willing to risk pulling the star quarterback out of school and making the Nighthawks lose to Clivesdale.
-Pete, Ruth and Richie do end up transferring out to get the hell away from him when he starts becoming even more of a menace, as impossible as that seems. Richie begs Paul to let him finish out high school at Sycamore and Paul reluctantly helps him get a variance. He joins the anime club and the swim team there. Sycamore isn’t as cliquey as Hatchetfield High and a lot of the kids who go there are just as “weird” as he is, so he’s actually kind of popular there and he’s much happier. Ruth starts doing online school. Being away from the constant bullying, her anxiety starts to get better and her confidence improves. She joins a local theater troupe for teens, makes tons of new friends there and lands her first ensemble role. Pete just works his ass off and graduates early, then goes off to UCLA (he gets his own CaliforMIA reprise). Lex and Hannah make it to California in this universe too because why the hell not and Pete ends up being their roommate. I just think he and Lex would be an iconic duo. They’d hate each other at first (she’s a retail worker and Pete’s canonically a rude customer, natural enemies) but then they’d start vibing and the levels of snark would be off the charts.
-When Linda and Gerald see how Max is struggling in school, they hire a tutor for him and his grades actually improve a little. He’s still a nightmare to deal with and doesn’t try that hard, but they pay this tutor such an extravagant amount that they’re willing to put up with just about anything. Just for funsies, maybe the tutor is Ziggy. Idk could be a fun comedic pairing and I like to think Ziggs is smarter than they let on and tutors on the side so their only stream of income won’t be drug dealing - they don’t want people getting suspicious of how they’re making a living.
-Linda and Gerald start going to every single football game with the boys. The whole family is decked out in an obnoxious amount of Nighthawks gear and they cheer for Max louder than anybody else. Max pretends not to care, but he secretly loves it. They’re proud of him and it’s not conditional on whether he wins or not. They prioritize him, clearing their schedules so they can come to the games and always show up when they say they’re going to. His dad never did that for him.
-Max injures his knee during one of these games and he insists he’s fine, but the coach forces him to sit out for the rest of it. He’s worried Linda and Gerald are going to be mad at him for not playing or think he’s weak for not toughing it out, but they’re both just worried about him and want to make sure he’s okay. When they get home, Gerald makes him stay off of it and ice it. Linda fusses over him and his new brothers keep him entertained while he’s laid up on the couch.
-every so often, the school calls the Monroes and tries to talk to them about a bullying incident. It’s pretty rare because Max is the star football player and the administration doesn’t really care what he does, but if it’s a particularly violent one they’ll at least make a half-assed attempt to address it for appearances’ sake. Gerald tells them “if you have that much of a problem with it YOU do something about it.” Linda then reminds them that if they do, their generous donations to the school just might dry up. Whenever Max comes home after, Gerald just laughs about it and claps him on the back, then says something along the lines of “That’s my boy, keeping those nerds in line!” Obviously, this only encourages him more.
-Linda decides to impart her wisdom on him and show him that brute force isn’t the only way to keep people in line and get what he wants. She and Gerald start to teach Max more creative, underhanded ways to hurt people and encourage him to use their wealth and connections to his full advantage. As they say, what’s the point of having money if you’re not going to enjoy it?
-As part of this lesson, Gerald fondly recounts what Linda did to that girl’s skis in that competition back in college and how it was the moment he knew she was the one. He goes on about how hot, successful and smart she is and says that Max should take her advice because she knows what she’s talking about. Max can’t put it into words, but there’s something so healing about seeing the way Gerald and Linda love and support each other. Maybe seeing this modeled teaches him how to have (somewhat) healthy romantic relationships down the line and he and Grace eventually get together and have a similar “horrible to everyone else, loving and supportive to each other/enabling to each other’s bad behavior” dynamic.
-When Max joins the family for dinner with Roman and hears the way he talks to Linda, he can’t control his temper and tells him he doesn’t care who he is, he’s going to smash his face in if he doesn’t shut the fuck up because nobody talks to Linda like that. Gerald, of course, is absolutely delighted. Linda half heartedly scolds him, but is secretly so touched that he stood up for her like that. She and Gerald discuss it, decide Max deserves a little reward and buy him a brand new Range Rover.
-After the incident with Roman, Linda tells Max that he just might be her new favorite. River overhears and this ignites a lifelong, largely one-sided sibling rivalry with Max. He starts kind of emulating Max’s bad behavior and lashing out at school to try and get Linda’s attention and when that doesn’t work, he becomes a huge overachiever instead as a way to distinguish himself from Max and make himself feel superior since Max isn’t very academically gifted. He does genuinely study and work hard but he also pulls every dirty trick imaginable to sabotage any other students standing in his way (some…unfortunate things end up happening to his competition for a few scholastic awards and the one student who’s ahead of him for valedictorian his senior year). Linda’s proud of him and showers him with praise, but all he can think about is that moment Max displaced him as the favorite. He wonders if anything he does will ever be good enough to earn that spot back.

Vice President Candidate Tim Walz - Some of his Issues Before The Voters
• The Floyd riots. Walz managed to infuriate mainstream voters when he initially refused to quell the riots and arson that followed George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis, only to enrage activists later when he called in the National Guard. Violent crime continues to plague the state.
Walz also signed a 2023 bill giving felons the right to vote except while they are incarcerated.
• Covid: Minnesota was a proud lockdown state; Walz enforced closures, restrictions and curfews, as well as a mask mandate, for more than a year. Police arrested a business owner who defied restrictions, while Walz set up a hotline that allowed residents to tattle on others who weren’t following his rules (Walz said the snitching was for people’s “own good.”)
• Spendalooza: Minnesota is racing to become the California of the Midwest, via a spending blowout that has ballooned government and depleted coffers. Walz hiked taxes, blew through a $18 billion surplus, and is on track for a $2.3 billion deficit. The money was thrown at a bevy of progressive priorities, including public education, “free college,” paid family and medical leave, and expanded government health care.
• Green New Deal: Walz tied his state’s vehicle emission standards to California regulations, among the strictest in the nation. And he signed a bill requiring state electric utilities to be 100% carbon free by 2040—an insane, and costly, fantasy.
• Culturally weird:  Walz gave his party a laugh when he declared Republicans “weird,” though it’s Minnesota that’s rapidly moved away from cultural norms under his tenure. He signed a law making the state a “sanctuary” for minors seeking transgender hormone treatment and surgery; another one mandating the dispensing of tampons in school boys’ bathrooms; and a law that declares an “individual” right to an abortion with no time limit or requirement that minors notify their parents.
Dept. of Conventional Wisdom: Walz has a jovial Midwestern style, and is often found chatting about his love of hunting or coaching while sporting a Carhartt jacket and baseball cap. Democrats intend to present him as their bridge to working-class voters and argue he’s capable of presenting progressive policy as practical and positive for most Americans. Think Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman or Montana Sen. Jon Tester. Yet Minnesota has little to show for its massive spending and liberal governance: Crime is up; education proficiency rates are down; capital and residents are leaving; inflation remains high; and job numbers are ticking down. Minnesota’s tax rates—individual, corporate and estate—are now among highest in the nation. Walz didn’t fare well with working-class voters in his gubernatorial elections. And his policy history magnifies the perception of a far-left ticket.
The real error may be lost opportunity. Vice-presidential candidates don’t usually make-or-break a ticket, but with another potential razor-thin presidential race in November—one that may very well run straight through Pennsylvania—Harris’s decision to walk away from a popular Keystone governor was risky.

1963 AC SHELBY COBRA
1963 AC SHELBY COBRA 4.7-LITRE MARK II ROADSTER  REGISTRATION NO. OYM 28A CHASSIS NO. CSK2116 ENGINE NO. CSX2116
Footnotes
Rightly regarded as one of the all-time great classic sports cars, the muscular, fire-breathing Cobra succeeded in capturing the hearts of enthusiasts like few of its contemporaries. Only 1,000-or-so Cobras of all types were built between 1962 and 1967, but such was the model's enduring popularity that production was resumed in 1982 under the auspices of Brooklands-based Autokraft.
Convinced that a market existed for an inexpensive sports car combining European chassis engineering and American V8 power, Le Mans-winning Texan racing driver Carroll Shelby concocted an unlikely alliance between AC Cars and the Ford Motor Company. The former's Ace provided the simple twin-tube chassis frame - designed by John Tojeiro - into which was persuaded one of Ford's lightweight, small-block V8s. It was discovered that the latter was lighter than the six-cylinder Ford Zephyr unit that AC was using, yet with vastly greater potential. To cope with the projected power increase, the Ace chassis was strengthened with heavier gauge tubing and supplied fitted with four-wheel disc brakes. Weighing a mere 1.5cwt more than a Bristol-engined Ace yet endowed with double the power and torque, the Cobra turned in a breathtaking performance, racing to 60mph in 4.4 seconds and reaching the 'ton' in under 12, exceptional figures by early 1960s standards and none too shabby even today.
The 260ci (4.2-litre) prototype first ran in January 1962, with production commencing later that year. Exclusively for the USA initially, Cobras - minus engines - were sent from England to be finished off by Shelby in California, and it was not until late in 1963 that AC Cars in Thames Ditton got around to building the first fully finished cars to European specification.
After 75 Cobras had been built with the 260ci engine, the more powerful 289ci (4.7-litre) unit was standardised in 1963. Rack-and-pinion steering was the major MkII up-date; then in 1965 a new, stronger, coil-suspended MkIII chassis was introduced to accommodate Ford's 427ci (7.0-litre) V8, an engine that in race trim was capable of producing well in excess of 400bhp. Wider bodywork, extended wheelarch flares and a bigger radiator intake combined to create the definitive - and much copied - Cobra MkIII look. Keeping ahead of the competition on the racetrack had been the spur behind Shelby's adoption of the 427 engine, but some MkIIIs to 'street' specification came with Ford's less powerful 428ci hydraulic-lifter V8.
But for Brian Angliss, the Cobra story would have ended in 1967. The Autokraft boss had built up a business restoring Cobras and supplying parts, and in the early 1980s acquired the rights to the AC name plus a quantity of jigs and tooling from the old Thames Ditton factory. Keeping the overall style of the MkIII, Autokraft produced the MkIV, which was appropriately updated to meet current legislation and powered by a 'Federalised' Ford 5.0-litre V8 engine. Around 480 were built.
Chassis number 'CSX2116' was invoiced to Shelby American on 16th April 1963 and shipped to Los Angeles three days later aboard the 'SS Loch Gowan'. Invoiced on 18th June 1963 to Burton Motors of Sacramento, California, the Cobra was sold new to a local doctor who used it for a few years before giving it to his daughter. She used the car as daily transport for several years before the clutch failed, at which time it was sold to Steve Dangremond of Santa Rosa, California. The Cobra was advertised for sale by Mr Dangremond in late 1977 and bought by Dr Grant Hill of Chotoka, Alberta. Dr Hill fitted Weber carburettors and raced 'CSX2116', eventually trading it to Fred Yule in Portland, Oregon. At that time, the car was still finished in its original colour scheme of dark blue and retained its original black leather interior.
'CSX2116' returned to the UK in the late 1980s and was advertised through Hampson's Ltd, by which time it had been refinished in red and fitted with a full-width roll bar. Subsequent owners in England were Dr Carlos Barbot, Trojan boss Peter Agg and Formula 1 racing driver Rupert Keegan. 'CSX2116' was last restored in 1988, records on file indicating that an extensive mechanical restoration was undertaken at this time. The car still retains its original black leather interior though the Weber carburettors have gone, replaced by an easier to maintain four-barrel Holley. There is considerable additional accompanying documentation including correspondence between previous owners, a copy of the original bill of sale, Shelby American Automobile Club letter of authentication, FIA papers and Swansea V5 registration document. The car has belonged to the current owner since 2006.  Early Cobras are offered for sale only rarely and this example represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a fine example of this classic of Anglo-American sports car design.

The most UNREALISTIC thing in the entirety of All For The Game is not Andrew’s meds, not the popularity and success of a just created sport, not the Yakuza in fucking West Virginia, etc. It is the fact that Renee Walker, the rainbow dyed hair ex gang member strong ass girl boss, who is close friends with Allison Reynolds, the rainbow high heels wearing independent strong ass gorgeous boss bitch, was implied/set up to get together with Jean Moreau.
Jean Moreau, the fucking stoic broody traumatized ex raven who goes on to join a team with Jeremy Knox, the california golden boy puppy dog.
Anyways this has been a Renison and Jerejean appreciation post! wlw + mlm solidarity. Those gay bitches.

Underneath the Stars

Word count: 3,075
Warnings: none
Genres: established relationship, fluff, self-insert
A/N: I’m back at it again by participating in @wyattjohnston’s Summer Fic Exchange and this is my story for @ilyasorokinn, written with the very handsome Nico Hischier. I hope that you like it. I’m sorry in advance that it kinda goes by fast and about the timeline format but I just wanted to try something different. I also decided to challenge myself a bit more by writing adding some dialogue so please bear with me if the conversations aren’t that great. This is an established relationship story (so there’s no meet cute this time, which was a challenge for me to not write one). I’ve also never been to New York City before so I used Google to help me and I apologize for any inaccuracies. Title and some of the story elements comes from Underneath the Stars by Mariah Carey (which I highly recommend listening to). There are also some elements of the journey across NYC events that take place in “The Sun Is Also A Star” by Nicola Yoon (book). As always, I’m open to any and all feedback, comments or questions; just put them in my inbox or dm me. Thank you so much in advance for reading, I appreciate it😌 (P.S. I have other stories (linked here) that I have written for other players as well if you want to check it out)
Optional/recommended listening: Underneath the Stars by Mariah Carey
“Who needs a crowd when you’re happy at a party of two?” -Late To The Party by Kacey Musgraves
7:05-10:00 pm
Another Devils season had yet again come to an end without making the Stanley Cup Final. It was a bit disappointing but the nice thing about being eliminated early is that you had some additional time to spend with your boyfriend, Nico. You were excited to see him but you knew your time together would be bittersweet. You were granted a summer sports medicine fellowship opportunity in California but that meant that you would spend the whole summer away from Nico and you would not be able to visit him in Switzerland either. Nico was happy for you, achieving something that you worked really hard for, but he was also a bit sad that you wouldn’t be able to spend the off-season together and be in the same place without worrying about the hockey season for a few months. You and Nico had been separated at times before, while he was away on road trips, but this felt much different.
For your last outing together before going your separate ways, you agreed to go into the city to watch the Mets play against your favorite team, the San Francisco Giants. Yes, although you were dating the captain of a hockey team, your favorite sport was baseball. Despite being surrounded by others, the PATH train ride into the city felt like you were the only 2 people on board. During your trip, you noticed that the light from the waning sunset bathed Nico in the warmest glow. Before you knew it, you were in New York City and continued the rest of your journey. After taking the main NYC subway, you arrived to your destination at Citi Field and had a lot of fun at the game. It was so nice to enjoy your favorite pastime with Nico and it didn’t hurt that he looked good in a baseball jersey as well. Every time you watched a game, Nico always asked you questions about what was going on since baseball isn’t as popular in Switzerland. It was fun to be on the other side as the one explaining the game to him, just like he would explain things to you when you watched his beloved soccer together or had questions about hockey. One nice memory that was made during the game was singing along to “Take Me Out to The Ball Game”; the song was such a classic and Nico even joked that there should be a hockey version of the song, which made you giggle. Your time together at the game flew by and to your delight, the Giants won.
————————————————————
10:10 pm-10:15 pm
After the game, you planned on taking the subway together back over to New Jersey but Nico could sense that something was off on your walk to the station.
“Hey, what’s wrong? You look upset.” Nico asked with a hint of concern in his voice.
“I’m sorry, Nico, I just don’t want this night to end. I’ve been having such a good time with you and I know once you leave, I won’t see you for a while,”  you replied, trying to hold back tears.
Nico felt the same way, he knew he would go back to Jersey, go to sleep, and have to wait months before seeing you again.
“It doesn’t have to end, my love. What else should we do then?”, Nico said with a smile on his face.
————————————————————
10:40 pm-12:56 am
After your conversation, you decided to go to a late night showing of Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse at Alamo Drafthouse. Before the movie, you and Nico stopped at a nearby bodega to get some snacks to sneak in. Nico didn’t care if the snacks were a bit unhealthy because it was the off-season and although it was wrong to sneak in outside food, it’s not like the theater employees were going to kick you out anyways. There weren't many people around for the showing so it was almost like the movie was shown just for the two of you. During the movie, Nico subconsciously put his arm around you and tried to pull you in closer; he would miss movie nights with you. It was a rare opportunity for him to just sit down and relax with his lover. The movie itself was super amazing and after the movie, you and Nico had a lengthy conversation about the events of the film.
————————————————————
1:00 am-2:00 am
Sleep may be an athlete’s secret weapon but even at 1 am, Nico still had energy. You ended up having a game night at Brooklyn Bowl since it was the only fun place that wasn’t a bar that was still open. Of course, being an athlete meant there was a competitive side to Nico so he was trying his best to win the game. You, on the other hand, were just having fun and didn’t care as much about winning. Nico’s goal was to get a strike but he kept knocking most of the pins down except for 1 or 2 so when you got a strike in your casual play, Nico was ecstatic. He lifted you up in the air and spun you around, making you laugh. All of the other patrons must have thought he was drunk but no, he was just sober and so happy for you. You were slightly embarrassed by your boyfriend’s excited gesture but you didn’t care because yet again, he made you laugh. Hearing you laugh was a sound that Nico would miss while you were apart from each other. Despite striking out, you didn’t win the game and Nico never achieved getting a strike but he had more points so winning allowed him to gain even more energy for the rest of the evening.
————————————————————
2:30-3:00 am
Since Brooklyn Bowl closes at 2 am, there was still time in the night and exhaustion hadn’t hit either of you yet so you and Nico headed back towards Manhattan. Nico decided that the best way to expel some of his extra energy was singing and bopping around. Nico’s actions inspired an activity. You decided to go for a late-night karaoke session at a karaoke bar called Karaoke Boho Orchard in the Lower East Side. Thankfully, this karaoke bar had private rooms so you wouldn’t have to worry about singing on stage in front of strangers.
Nico wanted to sing first and he dedicated “Lover” by Taylor Swift to you; it was a song that you loved dearly. Although Nico’s vocals were a bit off-key, you were so in awe observing him sing and you began to quietly tear up a little bit. While you were wrapped up in your bubble of awe, you didn’t quite realize that Nico had finished singing; you didn’t even think about what song you were going to sing. After scrolling through the song catalog, you serenaded Nico to “Always Be My Baby” by Mariah Carey. The song reminded the two of you that no matter what separates you, you’ll always be a part of each other. Nico’s heart began to fill with so much amusement and joy with your musical tribute. Listening to you enunciate the words of the song sounded almost like poetry. If Nico wasn’t weak in the knees with loving you from before, watching you sing to him made him hit the ground. After you completed the song, Nico suggested singing a duet together and you settled on “Islands In The Stream” by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Although it was cheesy, singing love songs to your lover and with your lover reminded you both that the love you shared was so strong. For the rest of your time, you and Nico continued to sing different songs. It was so much fun singing and dancing together; it was a side that rarely came out but whenever it did, you both always had a good time.
————————————————————
3:00-3:45 am
The karaoke room was paid by the hour but Nico was a bit hungry so the two of you made a quick stop at Katz’s Deli since it was the only food place open nearby. The restaurant was surprisingly not filled with many people so you and Nico sat close to the walls; observing the wall photos, trying to figure out who the famous faces were.
“Do you think I should tell them who I am so I can get my picture on the wall?” Nico jokingly asked while you waited for your food to come out.
“Nico, you do know this is Rangers territory? They would rather burn your picture than put it up” you whisper replied.
“Y/n, you do know that the diners in Jersey are better right?” Nico said in a not-so-serious louder tone.
“Nico, how dare you insult an iconic New York institution?” you gritted through your teeth.
You playfully swatted at him and thankfully, your waiter arrived with your order of potato latkes and matzo ball soup. Over the meal, you and Nico chatted and people-watched those who came in and out of the restaurant.
————————————————————
3:45-5:00 am
As the night dragged into the almost sunrise hours, you started getting tired. Nico suggested that you rent a hotel room and rest; he knew that you would probably fall asleep on the train ride back to New Jersey and preferred for you to rest somewhere somewhat comfortable. The closest hotel was the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side, which was right next door to Katz’s Deli. You pleaded with Nico that he didn’t have to pay for a last-minute hotel room but he insisted. The front desk person who checked in was a Devils fan so they gave you a discount and a room with a spectacular view of the city. Nico embraced you as you lay in bed and you tried your best to fall asleep but you couldn’t quite stop staring at the sea of lights from the City That Never Sleeps right outside of your window. You wanted to continue to talk to Nico but as soon as his head hit the pillow, he was knocked out. Over time, your eyes fell heavy and you went to sleep.
————————————————————
5:00-6:00 am
You couldn’t quite stay asleep, your brain raced with thoughts about how your time with Nico was winding down, even though, he was right next to you. You watched Nico as he slept, matching your breaths with the rise and fall of his chest, wondering what he was dreaming about; he looked so peaceful. You tried to quietly slip out of Nico’s arms but he kept pulling you back to hold you close to him. Nico’s eyes fluttered open once he felt the flat space of the mattress after you successfully broke free to use the bathroom. When you emerged from the bathroom, Nico’s big brown eyes greeted yours and he was sitting up in bed.
“Are you okay? Do you want to switch rooms?”, Nico asked with the same hint of concern from earlier in the evening.
“No, I’m good. I just can’t sleep”, you replied back, “ but you can go back to bed.”
“Do you want to leave and go back home then?”, Nico suggested.
Hearing him say that made the reality of your time ending together hit you in a painful spot but it was for the best; you couldn’t stop putting off the inevitable separation that was going to happen soon. You agreed to go home. On the elevator ride downstairs, Nico expressed that he would want to come back to see more parts of the city and for a staycation with you and you suggested that since the hotel had a rooftop bar, it would be a good spot to host a team party.
Instead of taking a train to get there, you decided to walk to the PATH train station that would return you back to New Jersey. On your walk, you and Nico passed through sections of the New York University campus and even made a quick stop at Washington Square Park. Although the park wasn’t as large as Central Park, it was nice to stroll around together and there was a warm gentle breeze that wrapped around you. There weren’t many people around, just a few joggers and people walking their dogs. At one point during your walk, Nico wanted to take a quick break to sit on the grass. Sitting on the grass eventually turned into laying on the grass. There were still a few stars out from the previous evening but not long before, you watched the sun begin to spill the warm colors into the sky; the rising sunlight dressed you in a warm glow. It was hitting Nico bad that this would be the last time that he would hold you for the rest of the summer and he planted a kiss on your head. You felt a tear hit your scalp and you looked up to see Nico crying a little. You had never seen Nico cry like this before but you reassured him that everything was going to be okay. After the sun fully rose, you and Nico left the park to go home. As you walked under the Washington Square Arch, you squeezed Nico’s hand three times as a quiet gesture to remind him that you loved him.

6:30-7:30 am
The train ride back to Jersey had much fewer people than the train ride over. You and Nico sat in the back, wrapped in your own personal bubble. Nico kept trying to stay awake to maximize the time you had left together but he ended up taking a nap on your shoulder. You still couldn’t quite fall fully asleep yet. Although he didn’t have to do so, you were grateful that Nico sacrificed his time and sleep schedule to spend all night with you. Nico felt similarly; there was no one else in this world that he would be willing to spend sunset to sunrise in NYC, running on little sleep than with you. While he was asleep, you slipped a custom handmade letter bead bracelet onto Nico’s wrist. It was neutral colored and it had your initials together on it so everytime Nico looked down at his wrist, he would be reminded of you. You and Nico hadn’t planned on exchanging gifts before you left but you decided to make it for for him once you realized that you wouldn’t be spending the summer together.
After arriving in Jersey, you and Nico went to a local diner to share one last meal together. As you waited for your order, you were calmly soaking in your final moments with Nico but he was a bit antsy in his seat. Something was on his mind and he couldn’t quite keep in any longer.
“Can we take it to go? I want one final moment with just us.” Nico declared.
————————————————————
8:00 am
Over your last breakfast at your apartment, you and Nico reflected on last night’s events and the memories you made together. The time you had together sailed by so fast and you both had such a great time; it was both beautiful and bittersweet at the same time. You were obviously surrounded by people everywhere you went that evening but at times, it felt like the city felt like it was your own secret, special place.
Nico’s flight to Switzerland wasn’t scheduled to leave until the following afternoon so he still had time to get some sleep and finalize any final things before leaving the country until returning for training camp in September. After breakfast was done, you and Nico migrated toward the couch to watch the news; watching the morning news together was a rare thing that you got to do together whenever Nico had a weekend off day. You tried your best to stay awake but a wave of tiredness crashed hard into you and you ended up drifting off to sleep in Nico’s arms on the couch. As you lay deep asleep in Nico’s arms, he reluctantly said goodbye. He really didn’t want to leave you behind and wish that he could just move your summer fellowship to Switzerland so that you could be enjoying a Swiss summer with him. He would spend part of his time, missing you being so far away and trying to perfect a potato latke recipe to match the one you had enjoyed at Katz’s Deli. Being this close to you for one last time, Nico could feel himself fading into you and feel the parts of you that faded into him with each minute that passed and he had hoped that these parts would stick around long after he left (which they did).
————————————————————
Time unknown
You woke up hours later on the couch, feeling a bit disoriented. The TV was turned off and you were covered in a blanket. It was dark outside and Nico was gone but he left a gift behind for you. Before going to shower, you noticed that there was a stack of Polaroids and one of Nico’s bracelets on the coffee table. The stack contained all of the pictures from the evening before that Nico took on his phone: the photo of you and Nico at a baseball game that was taken by a fan, a photo of you singing karaoke, an image of Nico taking a selfie while you were looking off-guard at the Katz’ Deli picture wall, a photo of your side profile looking out the window on the train ride home and a Nico selfie on the grass at Washington Square Park to round out the stack. On the back of each Polaroid, Nico wrote “I love you so much” and other sweet notes. You were slightly confused as to how Nico did this but you realized that he had secretly stashed his mobile Polaroid printer at your apartment. It was such a kind gesture that Nico put these photos together for you. Last night felt like a dream but the love captured in those photographs were the most significant memories you would hold onto. Whether you were hundreds of miles or a few inches apart, the love you both shared was always there, lingering around in your hearts. It sucked that you would be separated for a brief moment in time but each day apart was one day closer to being together again.

Jim Kelly was a prominent African-American martial artist and actor, best known for his roles in the "blaxploitation" films of the 1970s.
Kelly was born on May 5, 1946, in Paris, Kentucky, and grew up in San Diego, California. He began studying martial arts as a teenager and quickly excelled, earning a black belt in karate. He became a popular tournament fighter in the 1960s and 1970s and won numerous championships.
Kelly's big break in film came in 1973 when he was cast in the lead role in "Enter the Dragon," a martial arts movie starring Bruce Lee. Kelly's performance as Williams, a wisecracking, afro-wearing martial artist, made him an instant icon and helped to popularize the blaxploitation genre.
In the years that followed, Kelly starred in a number of other martial arts and action movies, including "Black Belt Jones," "Three the Hard Way," and "One Down, Two to Go." He also continued to compete in martial arts tournaments and worked as a martial arts instructor.
After retiring from acting in the 1980s, Kelly remained involved in martial arts and was active in promoting the sport and encouraging young people to get involved. He passed away on June 29, 2013, at the age of 67. Jim Kelly's contributions to the martial arts and film industries continue to be celebrated today.

Christen Press is uplifting women's soccer in the business world as well.
Through RE-INC and Angel City’s community impact events, Press is making a difference in the Los Angeles community. And through panels and other events, she is growing women’s soccer at the club and national levels.
Press has done it all this year without stepping foot on the field due to injury. But she could do it because much of her influence lies beyond her on-the-field play; her impact transcends soccer as she boosts her local community and represents women’s soccer in business.

Christen Press is uplifting women's soccer in the business world as well.
Growing up, Christen Press believed her value was attached to her play on the soccer field. And that put tremendous pressure on her. Standards for women’s soccer were far from where they are today, and there was no professional league. She did not know that value for a women’s soccer player could involve their off-the-field success.
“Growing up, I felt this pressure to be successful,” said Press during a panel on Thursday. “I was raised in an environment where I believed that my worth was tied to the performance, and that was an incredibly difficult environment.”
However, as women’s soccer evolved, so did Press’ understanding of the game. Fast forward to 2015, Press was playing in the NWSL for the Chicago Red Stars and represented the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) on the biggest stage, the World Cup.
Then, Press and the United States won the 2015 World Cup, and the NWSL clubs chose to continue to their fourth year, the first time a women’s soccer league in the United States made it past the third year. The popularity surrounding the sport was rising, sparking a push for increased standards.
“We left for the tournament living one type of lifestyle. We came back, and everything was changed,” Press said.
Starting in 2016, the fight for equal pay between women’s and men’s soccer began. And finally, in 2022, payments between men’s and women’s soccer from the U.S. Soccer were required to be shared equally, as agreed on in the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
This year, the 2023 World Cup is expected to break attendance and viewership records, signaling growth in women’s soccer. And now, Press is turning some of her attention to the club game as the next step in the sport’s evolution.
On Thursday, Press participated in a panel that the Bank of Montreal (BMO) hosted to promote gender equity. The panel included former USWNT head coach and president of the San Diego Wave, Jill Ellis, and the head of loyalty and sponsorship marketing at BMO, Sonya Kunkel; former USWNT player Danielle Slayton moderated it.
Press spoke about the push for equality and the importance of club soccer for young women, among other topics. The event took place at BMO stadium, the home stadium of her club team, Angel City.
“[Club soccer] gives visibility to the little me’s,” Press said. “Growing up in Los Angeles on Saturday, if I was able to come [to BMO Stadium] and watch a game day experience like [Angel City’s], it would have really really impacted myself and all my peers and how we understood the potential of women’s sports.”
Aside from motivating young girls to play soccer and advancing the sport, Press has committed to community impact. Angel City hosts events multiple times a month, helping the Southern California community in various ways. And the club’s commitment to such an impact is one of the main reasons Press signed with them.
“It means everything. It’s the reason that I’m home,” Press said. “I wanted to join a club that had shared values, and being in my home vocal community and being able to give back and being able to give joy to Angelenos means the world to me.”
Press also works to support her local community through her company, RE–INC. Soccer players Meghan Klingenberg, Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath, and she founded the company in 2019, starting with a single t-shirt. They now have a full line of products and recently celebrated their fourth anniversary in mid-June.
Press and her team rarely find themselves pitching the idea of women’s soccer anymore to investors as investors are “seeing the value” in the sport. RE-INCs growth means they are impacting the community more extensively through their membership. They are also working on expanding the company.
“We have a community, a monthly membership, where you can join to be a changemaker and find like-minded people to create change in your community. And we’re launching a new division of the business now called re-media. That’s going to reimagine the way that women are seen and experienced.”
RE-INC has partnered with multiple organizations serving the Los Angeles community and beyond.
“I think that everything that we do at RE-INC is about the connection that we have to our community,” Press said. “And every decision that I make is for the community… And this is a group of people that has phased out of so many other spaces, and we’re creating a space where people can be seen and heard and welcome.”
“[Press] is such an ambassador for our sport, for women,” Ellis said. “I love what she is saying about this next generation [of women]. Can they just focus on being athletes and stop having to fight. But what I love is those athletes on the pitch, and when she gets back, she will be there as well, but they have her as an ally, representing in the business world.”

February 27, 1976 Alive! Tour San Diego Sports Arena - San Diego, California
“What, no laser beams? No, but KIϟϟ blasted its 12,000 hyper-frenetic fans at the Sports Arena Friday night with every other conceivable eyeball-popping visual effect known to rock ‘n’ roll. A lot of groups, for example, find it effective to climax with spotlight beams reflecting off a revolving mirror ball. KIϟϟ opened with TWO mirror balls PLUS a barrage of smoke explosions… When there was time to listen, it seemed that the best musician of the bunch was Criss, who played an electrified solo of some duration and considerable variation and unerringly kept his beat going during a long rap by Stanley… Over the long haul, it will be interesting to see if KIϟϟ can last at its present level of popularity. It is, after all, a freak show, basing its appeal primarily on novelty. From here, it can either grow more outlandish from one tour to the next, or perhaps see respectability, a la Alice Cooper” (San Diego Union, 2/29/76).
The following day the band flew to Hawaii, where they’d remain until Mar. 3.

growing up in the sunny state of california had it’s ups and downs. thankfully i had my best friend brendan.
we met in kindergarten, i was sitting alone during lunch when he came up to me. he asked if he could sit with me and every day since then he sat with me at lunch. we were now in high school, seniors. we always waited for this day. we had so many dreams. brendan being a hockey star he quickly became popular, i was somewhat well known but never like briss.
our friendship remained strong, but it soon became rocky once high school hockey season took place. hockey being a winter sport, it put us in a rocky spot around the holidays.
see brendan always had a girl wrapped around his fingers. he could have anyone he wanted. he had gotten into a relationship with a girl who did not like me. she made it a big deal and a fight broke out between them. he slowly pushed me away, i knew he didnt want to but his girlfriend didn’t care.
our families became close after me and brendan became best friends. our yearly holiday trip to big bear was here and i sat in my room in the place we always stay at. polaroids and photo booth pictures of me and briss as kids hung on the wall next to the paper made flower bouquet he gave me on the first day of freshman year.
all the memories of every item always makes me emotional. i didn’t realize until Brendan’s mother came into the room and gave me a soft hug and passed me a tissue to wipe my tears. “your guys friendship is truly something beautiful, i noticed you guys haven’t hung out much lately, is everything alright honey?” she said while i sat on my bed and shook my head no before all the tears that didn’t make its way out then all crashing down now. “oh my sweet girl, it’s okay. i got you.” she said coming to me hugging me letting me cry onto her.
after a while i calmed down and she sat next to me. “ever since he got his new girlfriend right now everything’s been different. all his past girlfriends never had a problem with me until now. and it hurts. but what hurts more is knowing he’ll never look at me the way i see him.” i said and she rubbed my back. she knew i liked brendan since freshman year, she saw the way my eyes lit up whenever he got me flowers, or any gift. “trust me honey, my son is very oblivious. me, pat, and your parents all think you guys are destined to be. when the time comes you’ll know it.“ she said placing a kiss to the top of my head as i held onto her. “everyone else should be here soon, ill be downstairs if you need anything else alright?” she said and i nodded.
i decided to shower and change into a different outfit. after i got ready everyone finally got here. i stood at the top of the stairs when my breath got caught in my throat. i had locked eyes with brendans girlfriend. i didnt know she was going to be here.
i went downstairs and greeted everyone hi, but the worst one was greeting brendans girlfriend. she just glared at me the whole time.
“dinner will be ready soon” brendans mom said. “i think i’m actually gonna go explore, visit some old friends.” i said and everyone just hummed in response. i grabbed the keys and i felt someone grab my hand. “be safe alright, roads get a little hard to drive on at night.” he said and i just smiled and nodded before leaving.
truth being told, i didn’t have any friends here. i didn’t want to go exploring. its an excuse I’ve always used to get out of the house. i pulled into an empty park me and briss used to sneak off to all the time.
‘everything has changed’ playing softly in the background as i cried my heart out. we would joke about how this song would be played at our wedding. i wiped my eyes when i heard someone knock on my window, jordan brendans younger brother was there. i rolled down my window and he came up to me. “i had a feeling you’d be here, brendan may be oblivious but i’m not. i brought some of the food mom made, figured you didn’t eat.” he said and you couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh and told him to get in the car.
after eating in silence with only music softly playing in the back, jordan spoke up “my brother’s an idiot. i know you probably wont believe me but hes so hooked onto you. thats why none of his relationships ever last, and i don’t think you’ve ever noticed but all his girlfriends have some sort of resemblance to you. but they’re never you so it never lasts.” he said and i was shocked. “thats silly jordan, he would never.” i said. “trust me on this. and also you aren’t the only one who doesn’t like his current girlfriend. after you left during dinner mom almost lost it. his girlfriend was being super disrespectful and dad had to calm her down. i decided to leave the vibes in that house was not it.” he said and you just shook your head, of course she would cause trouble. “thanks for coming, it means a lot and it’s getting pretty late so we should head back home.” i said before putting my seatbelt on and driving us back home.
the whole trip wasn’t the best but i tried to make the most out of it. i barely hung out with briss, as much as it broke my heart i sucked it up to try and not ruin the trip.
its been a month since the trip. time has been going so fast. brendan was still with his girlfriend but they were extremely off and on. today i had a date, it was someone who played lacrosse. brendan was over at the house and i could feel him staring at me. “i’ll be back later” i announced before leaving.
but of course, i got stood up yet again. he didn’t show up. i decided to not head back home yet and sit at the beach instead. why does this always happen. all i wanted was to feel loved the way i love people. in reality, all i wanted was him. but i couldn’t have him.
after the sunset i decided to head back home, what i didnt know what brendan drove past where i was supposed to meet my date and saw that he never showed up.
as soon as i got home brendan rushed outside. “where have you been, and don’t even try to say on a date because i saw you get stood up.” he said and i felt my words get caught in my throat but i managed to get out a small sentence. “i was at the beach” i said softly and he came up to me and hugged me for the first time in a while. i hugged him back and cried in his arms.
“i broke up with my girlfriend. for good.” he whispered into my hair. “why would you do that?” i said looking up at him, feeling the small drizzles of rain. “she wasn’t you. none of the girls were. i didnt realize it until i saw you walk out that door for a date. that should be me taking you out, holding your hands, and kissing you like this.” he said before kissing me softly in the rain. neither of us caring about wether or not we’d get sick.
just happy that we finally had each other the way we both wanted.
