My International Language Pal (MILP) is an enrichment program that offers both online and offline educational lessons and activities to cater to students across the country. Whether in California or beyond, MILP provides tailor-made lesson plans and enrichment activities to enhance students' language skills, geographical literacy, and cross-cultural understanding, as well as their technology skills.

For states outside of California, MILP operates exclusively online, ensuring accessibility to students across the country. Our online offerings include:

Online enrichment activities offered by MILP include:

1. Virtual Video Pal Program: Students have the opportunity to engage in live video exchanges with peers from different states, allowing them to exchange cultures, practice language dialect skills, map reading skills to showcase their city and state, and foster cross-cultural understanding.

Interactive Language (Dialect) Lessons: MILP offers interactive language lessons conducted online, covering vocabulary building, conversation practice, reading comprehension, and writing exercises. We will study the various language dialects and accents that exsist throught the US and the world.

3. Geography Exploration: Through virtual map exploration and country profiles, students can learn about different countries, continents, and geographical features from the comfort of their classrooms.

4. Cross-Cultural Communication: MILP facilitates virtual cultural exchanges, role-playing scenarios, and collaborative projects to promote cross-cultural communication and understanding among students.

5. Geo-spatial Mathematics: Students explore the mathematical aspects of geography, such as measuring distances, calculating areas, and understanding spatial relationships. Proton Drive: requires account, haven’t used this one personally, 5GB of free storage but any more is paid, encryption options are apparently really good, have heard complaints about lack of Linux support and file syncing issues

file.pizza: no account required, p2p in-browser file sharing by link, password protection available, highly convenient

4shared: the world’s largest file locker, very old and has weird limits to keep in mind, account required, notably the entirety of it is searchable but password protection is available, can upload files of up to 500MB each (5GB if subscribed), daily bandwidth limit of 3GB

MEGA.nz: file locker, 20GB free plan, account needed, end-to-end encryption available, pretty dang good

Tixte: file hosting/sharing service, requires an account, 15gb free plan, ability to make files public or private

Alternatives that were not made for the purpose of file storage/hosting/management/sharing but can still be used for said purposes

Pinterest: it is worth noting that if you need a place to throw some random files, Pinterest can work for that, it can majorly compress images and no longer supports GIF uploads but if you have a bunch of screenshots you need to throw somewhere you can easily make a private Pinterest board and upload them to it and no one else will be able to access it, requires an email address

Please help me expand this list! Keep in mind that I haven’t used all of these personally so lmk me if any of these descriptions are misleading or inaccurate.

Again, this was made with my own file storage needs in mind so please forgive me if they don’t exactly fit your own, I just wanted to catalogue these in one place for if I ever needed or if they’d help anyone else

I have a lot of feelings about the use of AI in Everything These Days, but they're not particularly strong feelings, like I've got other shit going on. That said, when I use a desktop computer, every single file I use in Google Drive now has a constant irritating popup on the right-hand side asking me how Gemini AI Can Help Me. You can't, Gemini. You are in the way. I'm not even mad there's an AI there, I'm mad there's a constantly recurring popup taking up space and attention on my screen.

Here's the problem, however: even Gemini doesn't know how to disable Gemini. I did my own research and then finally, with a deep appreciation of the irony of this, I asked it how to turn it off. It said in any google drive file go to Help > Gemini and there will be an option to turn it off. Guess what isn't a menu item under Help?

I've had a look around at web tutorials for removing or blocking it, but they are either out of date or for the Gemini personal assistant, which I already don't have, and thus cannot turn off. Gemini for Drive is an integrated "service" within Google Drive, which I guess means I'm going to have to look into moving off Google Drive.

So, does anyone have references for a service as seamless and accessible as Google Drive? I need document, spreadsheet, slideshow, and storage, but I don't have any fancy widgets installed or anything. I do technically own Microsoft Office so I suppose I could use that but I've never found its cloud function to actually, uh, function. I could use OneNote for documents if things get desperate but OneNote is very limited overall. I want to be able to open and edit files, including on an Android phone, and I'd prefer if I didn't have to receive a security code in my text messages every time I log in. I also will likely need to be able to give non-users access, but I suppose I could kludge that in Drive as long as I only have to deal with it short-term.

Any thoughts, friends? If I find a good functional replacement I'm happy to post about it once I've tested it.
