Not sure what to make of this conversation…

I had the weirdest exchange earlier on DA and then on Discord and I am struggeling to make hands and tails of it. This person contacts me via notes on Deviant Art with the headline "willing to get the opportunity^_^":

Them: "Hey there! I hope things are going well on your end. I know this might seem a bit out of the blue, but I couldn't help but notice your awesome art gallery. Your commissioned pieces are seriously impressive! I was thinking, would you be open to the idea of me creating a piece for you in my own unique art style? My commissions are currently open, and I'd be absolutely thrilled to have the chance to work on something special for you. If you have a moment, you can find me on Twitter at XXXXXXX or on Discord as XXXXX. I hope it's alright that I'm reaching out like this. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks a bunch!"

Me: "Sure, if you want to draw some fanart of my stuff, but I don´t pay for comissions at the moment. "

Them: "Thank you so much for replying me back! Actually i really love your characters and also i got some different thought's in my mind about your characters I'm really very excited to share my thought with ya Would you mind if we discuss my thoughts on discord? cause it is more easy for to deliver those there!

Me: "Go for it."

Them: "Thank you so much Gimme a moment i can share it with ya i really love your character ❤️"

They proceed tho share the photo I made of myself in Hamburg after I smached my face on the sidewalk, which makes me feel a little uncomfortable. -

"Actually i can write a story for your character and then make a comic for ya"

Me: "Outch, that was a painfull evening."

Them: "I'm sorry to hear that 😦 so can i write a story for ya? and then turn the story into a comic"

Me: "You want to use my fursone or one of my OCs?"

Them: "yeah"

Me: "? So you want to use my OCs?"

Them: "yes you can share it with me Yeah bcz i wanted to write a story about your Oc's and turn it into an amazing comic"

Me: "OK, which OCs do you have in Mind? The Twins? The Gods? Or some of the older characters?"

Them: "I guess the twins is best work for comic"

Me: "Cool."

Them: "waiting…"

Me: "Ah, do you need the character sheets?"

Them: "yeah you can share it with me so i can write a story for ya"

I send the links to the charactersheets of the twins on DA over -

Them: "That's really nice ❤️ so i can write a story for ya around 10 pages and each page contain 10 panels sounds Good for ya?"

Me: "Really happy that you want give me such a gift,"

Them: "well would you mind can we proceed with the pricing"

Me: "??? Excuse me? I Did tell you that I do not make comissions at the moment. I understood that you want to do fanart of my characters, not that I comission you for anything. If thats the case forget it. To make it clear, you are welcome to draw my characters as fanart, but I will not pay for it."

And eversince then just radio silence of them so far. Sorry for the long post, but what the hell was that? Was that just miscommunication? Was that person trying to scam me? I would say it is possible that English was not that persons first langlauge, but, their profile says that they are from an English speaking country. At times this conversation felt like I was talking to an AI. So what are your thoughts, friendos? Just what was that?

the ask goes on for a few lines after this asking for donations. if you search aydin or aydinb01 or barisaydino2two on tumblr you can read copies of the same ask that people actually answered.

getting reblogged by @one-time-i-dreamt wasn't a lie (post here) but according to an anonymous tumblr user who sent multiple asks to different people, the ask and the og post are both scams.

reverse image searching the images in the post reblogged by one-time-i-dreamt makes clearer even that was a scam. doing that, i found these: links to the first and third images

the second image was harder to parse for but if you want to look through the guardian's now-closed, old live blog of the turkey and syria earthquakes, go ahead.

there was also a video added to the og post that's also likely to be stolen from a different source, but i think the pictures are enough proof. if anyone wants to search for the source of the og video, please do.

it's awful that some people are stooping so low as to try to profit off of a real tragedy that's killed so many people and has ruined so many others' lives. it's also awful that some people have actually fallen for this.

Hey there, thanks for caring about others but the sick cat post by dashandslices/dashandalivee is a scam.

The pet scammer is very frequent on tumblr. They make a new blog, put a few posts on it to seem legit, spam asks to people requesting donations, and then remake when they inevitably get deleted. Remember to try to scroll down to the bottom of a person’s blog, and turn on post timestamps in settings. In this case the person’s blog was created Oct 5, then they created their donation post and started asking for donations within 15 minutes of the first post they ever reblogged.

Also, always be wary of fundraisers that request PayPal payments through “Friends and Family”. There are other ways to receive donations on PayPal but they request this because payments sent through Friends and Family are not protected against fraud, can’t be refunded, and aren’t detected by PayPal as suspicious activity. Never send FaF payments to people you don’t know, because you can’t get it back.

More info on scams like these can be found on Kyra45’s blog or if you just look up tumblr pet scams. When you encounter blogs like these, you could report them for spam or phishing.

I (F, human) often, like many of you, receive these silly scam/bot messages. However, ever since the joyous day when His Lordship todd Howard accepted the tesblr community into his loving arms and his hot tub, I now feel the need to respond to these people, and let them know that Toddy boy is first and foremost in my heart 💖

While I understand that I am a “fucking godawful troll” and “horrible shit person” for engaging with them, *I* find it hilarious even if *others* are questioning my sanity. Especially bc I’m speaking of TES things as if they were real, to a normie who doesn’t understand, and picturing their confusion is only adding to the Happiness i am feeling currently. 

It’s only fun BECAUSE i know they’re potential scammers, and probably would like to cheat me out of mucho dinero $$. They messaged me first, and I *do* believe that it’s fair game to troll a troll. (Yet part of me does feel bad? Maybe sending out these messages is THEIR serotonin and I’m ruining it? 😖)

Hello! While it's great that you want to help out a cat owner by reblogging lyncheeer's post asking for donations, I'm afraid this is a scam.

Lyncheeer only started reblogging things less than a day before making the post asking for money, which is already a red flag

Moreover, the images and information in the post are stolen. More information about the actual owner's post and this type of scam in general can be found on kyra45 's blog. I'm not affiliated with her, but I've found it a useful place to learn more about (potential) scams like this

Yeah I figured it might be. I usually don't reblog donation posts at all but I don't like saying no to people haha,,,, I was asked to reblog and I was like yeah sure whatever, no harm in doing that. Not realizing that in doing that, while I myself would not lose anything, it could send the post to other people who might. Whoopsie?

The other suspicious thing is that that blog's photos of apparently themselves & their kids is that most of them look like they were screenshotted from someone else's snapchat photos/story. I guess they could be screenshotting their OWN snapchat account, but idk why they would do this when you'd just have the orig photos on your phone, and/or just download them from your own account instead of screenshotting it
