madge is a strawberry farmer!
johanna... is difficult to predict as to what she would want in a modern au but i think she would work a 9 to 5 at something because, money, and then run a snarky podcast on the side/have a popular twitter account
lucy gray baird is an old famous singer-actress from glamorous 50s style hollywood, like evelyn hugo, and coral can be lucy gray's celia st james

Had my orientation for classes today. Made the right call in putting effort into hair and makeup -- the campus director commented on my hair, which I've been cutting and dyeing myself for nearly 30 years.
That's kind of the main reason I decided to look into what's required to work in a barber shop and ended up applying for a Cosmetology course: it's something I know I can do. But also as a visibly queer person (someone at the school outright asked my pronouns) I might be seen as more approachable than the asshole who butchered my hair when I was 10 and was the reason I started cutting my own hair in the first place!
I'm looking forward to this. My goal is to basically treat it like a job rather than classes, a job with a lot of on-the-job training. We even have a loose "uniform" for the sake of professionalism, which will make that part even easier to fix in my head.

"I'm not going to be the teacher. We're going to learn together. You're going to teach me some things, and maybe there are a few things I might be able to teach you, but I don't consider myself a teacher. I just feel that I'm here to learn with you. We'll learn things together."
As an adult educator myself, I couldn't help but be drawn into the fascinating life and philosophies of Bernice Violanthe Robinson. Born February 7, 1914 in Charleston, South Carolina --a day that saw snowfall in Charleston for the first time in more than a century. Robinson's mother, Martha Elizabeth (née Anderson) Robinson took this as a sign that her daughter would spend her life "disturbing the elements." Martha was herself sister to Septima Poinsette Clark's mother (see Lesson #74 in this series), and Bernice's own principles would similarly coalesce around the twin premises of education and citizenship, much like her famous cousin.
In 1929 Bernice moved from South Carolina to Harlem, New York with the intention of becoming a musician, but after a period in the famed garment district, her talents as a seamstress took prominence and she graduated from Poro School of Cosmetology. In 1947 she returned to Johns Island, South Carolina to care for her ageing parents, and with her professional talents was able to open her own salon --a form of economic independence not available to Black women in most other careers. At the time beauticians were traditionally well-regarded amongst civil rights workers, not only because they were known and respected in a community, but also because of their almost-stereotypical role as "the good listeners," and that as self-employed entrepreneurs were less prone to backlash from punitive employers. By all accounts a socially engaging and affable personality with an easy talent for friendly first impressions, Bernice joined the NAACP and made good use of her salon as a "hub" for local activism, and made many contacts and acquaintances.
In 1956 Robinson attended a workshop hosted by the Highlander Folk School (an organization that itself certainly merits its own course of study); her cousin Septima Clark also attended. Ostensibly the topic was about desegregation but over the course of the session the focus turned to civic literacy and educating would-be voters. Bernice expressed an interest in helping to better educate the people of Johns Island but lamented her lack of professional teaching credentials. Clark countered by suggesting that her cousin was the ideal candidate for such a role precisely because she lacked such a credential; that she was perfectly suited to the task because of her lack of formal training --no preconceived notions.
Thusly "voluntold," Bernice threw herself into her new calling; in five months (!) she developed lesson plans, curricula, and distributable materials that would lead to SCLC voter-registration workshops in communities well beyond Johns Island; eventually catching on in Charleston itself. The growth of these first Citizenship Schools in turn fed into the enthusiasm and the missions of CORE, the Freedom Riders, and the SNCC --all of which reinforced one another as they continued to educate and motivate scores of citizens who had never before stepped into a voting booth.
As an adult educator, Bernice also adhered to the principle of never stopping learning: in 1967 she completed a University of Wisconsin correspondence course in community development, and also found time to secure an additional degree in interior design. Robinson stepped down from her behind-the-scenes SCLC role in 1970, having quietly developed what amounted to the most successful and widespread literacy campaign in modern American history. She pivoted to developing curricula for the South Carolina Commission for Farm Workers (SCCFW); and then in 1972 --in what I can only assume is the inherent desire of the adult educator to yet again try something new and different-- she ran for Congress.

The Importance of the Hair Section in Hairdressing
In the world of professional hairdressing, one often overlooked yet critical aspect of hairstyling is the sectioning of hair. While most clients may not realize the importance of this fundamental step, every experienced hairstylist knows that precise hair sectioning is the foundation of a successful cut, color, or styling session. Proper hair sectioning can transform a good haircut into a masterpiece, allowing the stylist to work with precision, control, and creativity.
At Jawed Habib Academy, Laxmi Nagar, Delhi, Contact: 9266610366, students are trained not only in the art of hairdressing but in the science of it, and mastering the hairdressing.
In this blog, we will dive into the nuances of hair sectioning, discussing its importance in various aspects of hairdressing including cutting, coloring, and styling, and why it is essential for both professionals and aspiring hairstylists to master this fundamental skill.
Why Is Hair Sectioning Important?
Hair sectioning is much more than simply dividing the hair into manageable pieces. It is the roadmap to executing a successful style, and here are several reasons why it holds such importance:
Precision: Hair sectioning provides control and precision, ensuring that each strand is addressed with purpose. Whether it’s a trim or a complex haircut, proper sectioning allows a hairstylist to cut the hair evenly, ensuring symmetry and balance in the final look.
Consistency: When a stylist works on a head of hair that has been properly sectioned, they can consistently apply techniques throughout the entire head. This results in a uniform look, avoiding patchy color, uneven layers, or mismatched textures.
Time Efficiency: Organized sectioning speeds up the hairdressing process. Instead of guessing which area to work on next, the stylist follows a clear plan, allowing them to work more efficiently and reduce the chance of mistakes.
Customization: Each client’s hair is different in texture, density, and length, and their desired style will vary as well. Through proper sectioning, a stylist can customize their approach to meet the unique needs of the client, allowing for personalized attention to each part of the head.
Control: When working with hair, especially in complex procedures like chemical treatments or intricate cuts, sectioning offers greater control. This control allows the stylist to manage thick hair, avoid tangling, and deal with cowlicks or other hair quirks with ease.
Hair Sectioning in Haircuts
In haircuts, sectioning is crucial to ensure that every angle, layer, and texture is addressed with care. Different types of cuts require different sectioning techniques, but there are general principles that apply to all:
Basic Sectioning for a Haircut: For a typical haircut, the stylist usually starts by dividing the hair into four quadrants. This method simplifies the process by allowing the stylist to work on smaller, more manageable sections of hair at a time. Starting with the back sections first, the stylist works their way up to the front, ensuring an even cut throughout the head.
Layered Cuts: Layering requires a more detailed sectioning approach, often involving horizontal or diagonal partings. The hair is sectioned into even more refined portions to ensure that each layer is precisely cut. A slight variation in sectioning during a layered cut can lead to an asymmetrical or uneven appearance.
Precision Cuts (e.g., Bob or Pixie Cuts): Precision cuts, such as bobs or pixie cuts, demand an exceptionally detailed approach to sectioning. Stylists are taught to section the hair meticulously, often into smaller, triangular sections to allow for a smooth, flawless finish. Control over each section is what ensures that the lines and shapes in a precision cut remain clean and sharp.
At Jawed Habib Academy, students learn how different sectioning patterns apply to various styles, and they practice executing them with accuracy. This foundation in sectioning allows them to become more confident and skilled in performing complex and trendy haircuts.
Hair Sectioning in Hair Coloring
Hair color is an area where sectioning plays an even more critical role. Improper sectioning can lead to uneven color, visible patches, and an overall lack of polish. Here’s how sectioning enhances different hair coloring techniques:
Full Coverage: When applying color to the entire head, sectioning ensures that no part of the hair is missed. By dividing the hair into smaller, consistent sections, the stylist ensures the color is applied evenly from root to tip.
Highlights & Balayage: For these techniques, precision is even more important. Highlights involve careful placement of color, and sectioning allows the stylist to control exactly where the lighter tones will appear. Balayage, a free-hand painting technique, also relies on well-defined sections to create a natural, blended gradient of color.
Root Touch-ups: Sectioning is crucial when applying root touch-ups to ensure that only the new growth is colored, while the previously colored hair remains intact. This technique requires small, precise sections so that no area is missed or over-processed.
Creative Coloring: Modern color trends like ombre, two-tone, or vibrant creative colors require even more attention to sectioning. Stylists must balance contrasting colors and ensure the transition between shades is seamless. Only with precise sectioning can such color trends be executed with the desired aesthetic impact.
Color theory and technique are critical aspects of the curriculum at Jawed Habib Academy. Here, students not only learn the technical aspects of sectioning for color but also how to visualize the end result and make artistic decisions based on their client’s features and preferences.
Hair Sectioning in Styling
When it comes to styling, especially for intricate updos, curls, or blowouts, sectioning is equally important. Without it, the stylist risks missing parts of the hair or creating an unbalanced final look. Here’s how sectioning aids in different styling techniques:
Blow Drying: For a voluminous and sleek blowout, stylists use sectioning to focus on one part of the hair at a time. This prevents hair from becoming tangled or frizzy and ensures that the heat is distributed evenly across all sections.
Curls and Waves: Whether using a curling iron, rollers, or a straightener to create waves, sectioning allows for even and consistent curls. Different sectioning techniques, such as bricklay or pie sectioning, provide stylists with the flexibility to create tight curls or loose waves as desired.
Updos: For more intricate styles like braids, buns, or elaborate updos, sectioning is a non-negotiable. A stylist must carefully separate the hair to build structure and support the style. When sectioning is done correctly, the updo will have a polished and professional appearance and will hold its shape throughout the day.
The Role of Hair Sectioning in Hair Treatments
Beyond styling, hair sectioning plays an integral role in hair treatments, from keratin smoothing procedures to perms and relaxers. Here’s why it’s critical:
Chemical Treatments: Hair treatments like perms or relaxers require uniform application of chemicals, and sectioning ensures that the solution is distributed evenly across the hair. Missed sections can lead to an inconsistent result, with some parts of the hair being under-processed and others over-processed.
Smoothing and Straightening: Treatments like keratin or hair botox rely on precise application, followed by flat ironing in sections. This ensures that each strand receives an even coat of the treatment and that the hair is smoothed or straightened uniformly. Without careful sectioning, certain parts of the hair may not respond as desired.
Deep Conditioning: Even with something as simple as a deep conditioning treatment, sectioning ensures that the product is thoroughly worked into all parts of the hair, providing a balanced, nourishing treatment.
Conclusion
Hair sectioning is the invisible key to a successful hairstyle, cut, or color. Without it, even the most talented hairstylist would struggle to achieve precise and professional results. Whether you are aiming for a sleek bob, a head full of vibrant highlights, or a perfectly styled updo, mastering sectioning is essential.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - A mother has been criminally charged after posting a photo to social media allegedly showing her 5-year-old daughter waxing older women, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Jasmine Moss is charged with child neglect.
WMC spoke with Melanie Saulsbury, the owner of the Memphis Skin Academy in Bartlett, for her input as a licensed esthetician.
“Myself, being a mother, I probably would not have my child as young as 5 doing a service such as that,” said Saulsbury.
On Wednesday, officers received a series of complaints regarding social media posts showing disturbing images involving a young girl.
The reported images were uploaded to Moss’ Instagram account, which she used to promote her hair removal service. Police say three images posted by Moss show the young girl applying hot wax to the nude pubic area of adults.
“In Tennessee, you have to be at least 16 years old to actually get hours to obtain a license to become an esthetician,” said Saulsbury.
To become a licensed esthetician in the state of Tennessee, you must also complete 750 hours of training and pass written and physical examinations.
Moss identified the young child as her daughter in the Instagram post, which also boasts that the child waxed 24 clients for more than eight hours, according to the affidavit.
Saulsbury said waxing is too dangerous for a child.
“Even as an adult professional, you can get burned,” said Saulsbury.
Allegedly, Moss also operates her business out of her home. Saulsbury said although it’s not illegal to have an esthetician business in your home, there are laws and regulations.
“As long as it’s inspected by the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology, they come through and inspect the premises and other things surrounding your local code enforcement,” said Saulsbury, “For the safety of the public, I always tell my students to work in a professional setting.”
Moss will face a judge Tuesday morning.

Haircut
Chiron gave up on the assigned tables after the Romans came along. Most of the campers were overjoyed about the change, especially the ones who didn't have many if any, siblings. The Seven took it exceptionally well and set up their own table, plus a few friends. Nico and Will joined them this morning for breakfast. It has been a while since they caught up. He piled on his plate with bacon and eggs, with his darkling boyfriend got a bowl of oatmeal and a single pomegranate. They chatted a little while eating, but they focused mainly on stuffing their faces.
The life of a demigod took a lot of energy and even more food. Even then, seeing Percy eat a comical stack of pancakes was off putting. He watched in amusement as Nico struggled with his hair, constantly tucking his hair behind his ears to prevent it from getting in his food.
"Dude, you should get a haircut," Jason said through his breakfast sandwich.
"My hair is not that long," Nico tried to defend himself, failing miserably.
"You can't even eat anymore without having to incessantly mess with it," he pointed out.
"Well, what am I supposed to do about it? It's not like anyone here knows how to cut hair."
"I do," Annabeth told him.
"Really?"
"Yeah. Some of the Aphrodite kids taught me years ago. I could do your hair if you want. I've done it loads of times."
"It's not even that bad right now! You should see it in the morning.
"Okay," he replied without thinking.
Absolute chaos erupted. Leo laughed. Percy choked on his drink. Annabeth rolled her eyes. Frank was appalled. Hazel was very proud of himself for being so smooth. Jason tried to climb over the table to get to him while Piper held him back. Nico was confused, and it was later explained to him what he was implying. Of course, being the innocent that he was in the matter, he turned into a blushing mess. However, he did decide to take Annabeth on her offer.
* * *
He hasn't seen Nico since yesterday afternoon. Annabeth had cut his hair by now, and he couldn't wait to see his little makeover. Will eventually bumped into him during training. He and Percy were in the middle of a fascinating sword match, each of them keeping the other on their toes. He was floored when he saw him pause to slick back his hair. It still had some length to it and still looked messy but in a professionally done way. She did a great job and could consider going into cosmetology instead of architecture if she wished.
His boyfriend looked very…hot, and it had nothing to do with the high summer temperatures.
"You're drooling just a bit there, Solace," Leo teased.
"Shut up," he snapped, trying to hide his embarrassment from being caught staring.
"Better not let Jason catch you looking at his baby cuz like that. Boyfriend or not."
"I'm not worried," he lied.
Jason could definitely kick his ass if he wanted to, hands down. Although, that would likely result in Nico kicking his ass in retaliation. He still wasn't going to risk it.
"What do you think?" Nico asked, pulling him back to reality.
"You look terrific."
"Thanks."
"Wanna head to your cabin to clean up and hang out?"
"Sure."
* * *
Jason watched them leave the arena.
"Where are they going?"
"Nico's cabin," Leo answered.
"What are they going to do there?"
"I don't even want to think about that, but you could say they are definitely not playing Mythomagic."
Jason looked at them fade from view in horror.
