Been thinking about a Harry Potter AU for Boruto lately. I love thinking about what houses the characters would be in.
Would Shinki be a slytherin? Boruto and Naruto are 100% gryffindor. and I think Shikadai is definitely ravenclaw.

I just finished Episode 34, so I feel like now's a good time to give my updated thoughts on the show, because goddamn, it got so much better.
For the most part, Episodes 18 to 34 are focused primarily on introducing the other two Precures, Cure Sunshine and Cure Moonlight, but they do a really good job at building the debuts of both heroes. I really like how for Cure Sunshine, they introduce this one girl with a passion for flowers like Tsubomi, only for her to actually be a red herring for another recurring character, who ends up becoming Cure Sunshine.
The actual Cure Sunshine, Itsuki, has easily replaced Sarorina as my favorite character in the show so far. She's such an interesting take on a kind of character archetype that has ironically become more cliche over the years.
Itsuki is the president of her school's student council who is forced to act more masculine in order to become the heir to her family's dojo instead of her sick brother because only men fill the role. Most character archetypes like this, especially more recent examples of "strong female characters" like Captain Marvel and Rey Palpatine, would be praised for how tough they are and how they shun femininity, but Itsuki is the exact opposite. She still likes more girly things, like plushies and cute dresses, and as she gets more focus, we see more of a vulnerable side to her. Becoming a Precure (with easily the most frilly design of the four) helps Itsuki become more comfortable with expressing her desires, but there are still moments where she feels insecure about herself. It teaches a good lesson about how girls can like more feminine things while still being tough.
One of the first questions I had about Yuri/the former Cure Moonlight when I found out she used to be Cure Moonlight was what happened to her fairy. Me being the innocent soul that I am, I just thought that Yuri was separated from her fairy during her last fight with Dark Precure, or because her transformation device was broken, she couldn't contact her fairy anymore. I mean after all, if Yuri somehow survived being blown up by Dark Precure, surely her fairy survived too, right?
Yeah, no. I was far off the mark there. Yuri's fairy, Cologne? He was killed ON-SCREEN by Professor Sabaku. He literally turned to dust Infinity War style in Cure Moonlight's arms while she cried out his name in anguish. I get why so many people say Heartcatch is one of the darker Precure seasons now.
But this does tie into Yuri's character arc. While it was alluded to in earlier episodes, and is discussed while never actually being stated, it's heavily implied that Yuri is suffering from some form of PTSD or survivor’s guilt with how she acts around the others. The show doesn’t really dance around how broken Yuri feels, best represented by her carrying around her broken Precure Seed that she used to use to transform. Even the way she’s designed with more pale skin than the others highlights her implied depression. It ultimately makes her brief reunion with Cologne’s ghost (long story) and return as Cure Moonlight with a jury-rigged transformation device all the more triumphant. Granted, Cure Moonlight’s return was already spoiled by the opening, ending, and ad bumpers as soon as Cure Sunshine debuted ten episodes before, but I digress. Yuri’s become my second favorite character in the show. Sasorina’s still got the bronze metal obviously. I may or may not have panicked when it looked like she was about to be purified by Cure Sunshine, okay?
It was here that I actually realized why people referred to Heartcatch as “the darker season”. It isn’t called that because it tries to be overly violent or depressing, but rather because it tackles more sensitive subjects that people of all ages can relate to. It talks about the insecurities the characters go through (Tsubomi bottling up her emotions for her parents, Erika struggling to keep up with her older sister, Itsuki masking her true self to help her brother, and Yuri’s trauma from her last battle as Cure Moonlight) while showing just how tough they can be. It doesn’t really shy away from these kind of topics, but at the same time, shows how the characters deal with it. These girls have really formed their own sisterhood of sorts to help deal with all of their problems. You can really buy them not just as a team, but almost like a family.
Putting aside how the other Precures debuted, there were still some episodes I really enjoyed, like Episode 18 (pretty meta for an anime to have a manga episode), Episode 28 (I can really relate to Erika counting down how much Summer Vacation time she had left while slacking off on her homework), and Episode 32 (I’m guessing Kaoruko decided to not tell Tsubomi she was crushing on Coppe because she thought it was hilarious), but my favorite episode has to be the Summer Camp two-parter (Episodes 25 and 26). I don’t know why, but I tend to have a soft spot for episodes where the characters mostly just hang out and spend time together without a lot of drama. It’s always a nice break to see stuff like this happen in more action-oriented shows.
But yeah, with only fifteen episodes left, I’m interested in seeing how this show ends.
I’m actually thinking about checking out another series too. I’m leaning towards Smile Precure because apparently one of the heroes is a tokusatsu/anime nerd (with one episode evidently being all about lampooning those kind of shows with a giant robot fight), though I heard that Go! Princess Precure is just as well-received as Heartcatch is. It’s just that I’m a little turned off from what I’ve read about the main character wanting to be a princess because of how similar it sounds compared to... another Toei series starring someone who dreams of being royalty.
Tumblr media
The main character of Go! Princess Precure doesn’t take joy in learning she’ll grow up to be a genocidal tyrant in the future as long as she becomes a princess, right? That’s the bare minimum I ask for in a main character nowadays.

"Oi, Shigeru—have you ever met a Fullbringer during your human world patrols?”
The inquiry was met with a confused and hazy stare from the auburn-haired man, whose delayed response only came in the intellectually stimulating form of an ever graceful “Hah?”. Right, should’ve expected that one...
“Oh, uh... living, breathing humans with strange spiritual powers?”
“Like... ya mean like Quincy?”
“Nah, nah, they’re more like—”
“Don Kanonji?”
“No, they’re more... Hollow-like, in a w—wait, how do you even know THAT name-?!”
“Ohhhhhh so they’re Visored-!”
Tumblr media
“Oh for crying out—HUMANS, Shigeru! They’re humans, not shinigami!” And with that, only a slow, denying shake of his drinking buddy’s head followed. Kōtarō shook his own head in exasperation as he drank down some more sake. “Alright, so example. I met this woman in the world of the living—”
“—Is she cute?”
“—Interrupt me one more time and I’m hogtying you with Sajō Sabaku right here, I swear to god.” The threat of unleashing the higher tier Bakudō spell finally got the 11th divisioner to zip up at last, hands up in surrender, though his quirked brow and coy simper refused to relent. Sighing, Kōtarō nodded and answered the lingering question, “...and yes, yes she is. Very. Now, may I?”
Satisfied with the answer he got, Shigeru brought his hands back down and nodded back, smug smile ever present. “Ya may.”
“Good. So,” the lieutenant chanced one last glare toward the other man to ensure he had his complete and undivided attention, then resumed his explanation. “I met this woman in the world of the living, on one of my last missions. Naomi Mori’s her name. Like other high-spec humans, she’s spiritually aware to the point we’re tangible to her and then some, but her power, Fullbring, allows her to twist matter—actual physical matter—by manipulating its soul.”
“Like... like shapeshiftin’?”
Tumblr media
“To an extent—she can only morph random objects so much, but her exceptional gift lies with twisting metal. If she focuses her power on her chainlink, however, she can transform it into something else entirely!” Memory is a little bit hazy on the specifics thanks to his alcohol-addled mind, but Kōtarō supposed he was lucid enough for his explanation to stick all the same. “But, strange powers aside, she’s really cool and I like hanging out with her when she isn’t too busy at her bar. I make a point of visiting her when I get assigned over near her and say hi.”
“Question!” Shigeru shot up his hand as though a child would to catch their professor’s attention. The lieutenant blinked at the other officer in mild surprise, but he was happy his buddy was actually willing to engage in this conversation. Receiving a nod from the 13th division’s second-in-command, Gushiken cleared his throat. “Would ya say this Naomi gal is exceptionally gifted in... other... areas?”
Kōtarō’s dopey grin turned plastic and forced once he caught on to his friend’s crass implications, and so he pointed his index toward the other as the ambience of their booth went from pleasant to ominous in a flash. “...Bakudō #63-”
“HEY I DIDN’T INTERRUPT-?!”

Precure Journey
Oh no. Here we go....
Tumblr media
Heartcatch Precure! Overall
Spoilers and Opinions ahead! (Don’t kill me please!)
So, I’ve seen a lot of people say they love this season and it’s the one that got them into Precure and I can see why. It’s a season that takes it time telling its story and expanding the lore of it’s story. This is the season that introduces a lot of cool stuff live legacy cures and the Precure Palace.
But.....I don’t like it.
I’ve looked over the series and it has great episodes! The precure test, the build up to the precures, Tsubomi’s grandma being a past precure, the sheer amazing backstory for Yuri, and just Erika. Fuckin’ Erika.
But, I just....don’t like it...I mean I like it more than 5 and Gogo but it’s no Futari Wa or Fresh to me. Maybe it’s the art? The art while good is a bit jarring compared to what can before and it’s a little of putting.
The villains and characters are pretty good and characterized as well as most of the characters. There well acted too and screamed when I learned Tsubomi was voiced by the same actress that voices Fate Testarossa (my 2nd favorite magical girl ever)
Speaking of Tsubomi, I don’t like her. I get it. I really do, they gave us a refeshing take on the blue/pink Cure dynamic but I just can’t get behind Tsubomi, maybe it’s when I first saw her in the 2nd all stars movie and she was just useless maybe it’s just her personality in the show but I just don’t like her and I hate that. As she is a driving force in it.
Tumblr media
Rapid Fire thoughts:
Favorite Character: Erika Kurumi/Cure Marine (it was a close tie with Moonlight but Marine just one out)
Favorite Fairy:  Potpourri (She was the less annoying)
Favorite Villain: Dark Precure (she was so scary I love her)
Less Favorite Character:  Professor Sabaku (I hate him on a personal level as a character. #worstdad)
Top 5 Favorite Episodes: 10, 33, 37, 44, 49
Episodes Disliked: Tsubomi focused episodes
Tumblr media
(Erika’s face LOL) Okay, so I recognize that Heartcatch is a good show and a lot of peoples’ favorite but for me? It’s just okay. I appreciate it and it’s lore and world building are super cool, and I feel like if it’s story and world actually bleed over or factor into other seasons I might like it more but as of right now Precure’s seasons a very stand alone.
Me personally though I still prefer others. Like the next season for example.

FINALLY DONE WITH HEARTCATCH. Haven’t seen the movie yet but it looked like it might have been important with Professor Sabaku
Heartcatch AKA the intensely overrated Precure season. With reason of course. Animation was always good, action scenes were excellent. Characters were great too, Tsubomi grew, Erika was fantastic from (mostly) start to finish. Itsuki and Yuri never really felt like they were thrown to the side and forgotten?
I didn’t like the big reveal with Sabaku and Dark Precure tho. I was wondering what was up with Dark the whole time but the explanation wasn’t anything amazing. Also you can’t just call yourself “Dark PreCure”.
My main problem with the series was the “filler” episodes. I know they’re not fillers but stop making me care about this character that we have never seen before in the past and probably won’t ever see again in the future. There were some good emotional ones (the one with the girl being her sister’ mom) but other than that, don’t really care.
Ummmm, that’s about all I have to say. Their group attack isn’t the worst but still not my favorite. Dune was meh, but the final fight scene was good because I like fight scenes where both parties are on scale. (Human vs Human, or giant vs giant. I hate tiny human vs giant thing)
I think I put this a little above Smile and Suite. 8/10 A little under HappinessCharge, because I liked the relationship between the girls in HapiCha more. Also HapiCha had Seiji.
