Application: “Humility comes before honor”- you don’t have to be right or appear to be right. That won’t help you before God. It’s pride if you have to win every argument, if you have to be right every time.

Application: It is neither safe nor wise to hang out with the type of people on the internet who think that trolling, provoking other people, and stirring up trouble is fun. Whether it’s going to a different website to provoke and cause chaos to the people there, or posting flame bait, or leading people on with various forms of deception for entertainment, God hates this kind of behavior.

Seriously, don’t feed the trolls.  You don’t need to write an essay to explain to every wrong person why they are wrong. Unless they are sincerely interested in listening to you, it will fall on deaf ears. Ask yourself if this person seems like they would actually benefit from being corrected.

Application: Don’t post too much, don’t be easily angered. The more you type the more likely you are to say something wrong. Don’t be easily provoked. Even if you don’t have anything intelligent to say, if you withhold comment, you can even have a reputation for being smart.

28 Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise;

Application: So you had to ban that guy from the server. If his misdeed was public, it can benefit others to explain why he got blocked and what happened so that other people don’t do the same thing. When troublemakers don’t just get away with things, other people can benefit from the negative example.

    when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.

Application: Fools be quarreling. When you happen to see two people fighting, don’t get involved! It’s like jumping into a dogfight. Why would you do that? You literally have no dog in this fight.

    is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears.

Application: None of this is to say you should never say anything on the internet. There are many times it is quite wise and beneficial to say something or even correct people.

11 A word fitly spoken

    is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.

12 Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold

    is a wise reprover to a listening ear.

Proverbs 26:4-5

English Standard Version

Application: These two proverbs contrast each other to make a point. Sometimes someone is being so stupid that to answer them is to stoop to their level. You simply shouldn’t even dignify that kind of garbage with a response.

4 Answer not a fool according to his folly,

    lest you be like him yourself.

5 Answer a fool according to his folly,

    lest he be wise in his own eyes.

On the other hand, sometimes someone is being so foolish that you just have to reply to them, otherwise they will get away with it.

You should always be asking yourself “is it worth it to actually engage with this? Is it degrading to me? Will anyone benefit if I do?”

malevolent poetry/literary references: season 3

part 21: the unconquerable

the first of several references this season to “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening”, a poem written in 1923 by Robert Frost, and first referenced in part 5.

we’ve had references to “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley before, but this is the first time Arthur recites more than a few words. the poem was written in 1875, and Arthur and Yellow go on to discuss the author’s life in more detail in part 22.

like the earlier Robert Frost poem, this phrase is a common refrain throughout Malevolent as a whole. as discussed in my season 1 post, the source of the proverb itself appears to be a Persian fable written by Attar of Nishapur, a medieval Sufi poet. it gained popularity in the west in the early nineteenth century, thanks to a translation and retelling of the story by Edward Fitzgerald.

part 22: the town

William Ernest Henley was born in 1849, and at the age of 12, he developed tuberculosis of the bone in his left leg. when he was 16, his left leg was amputated below the knee after years of painful treatments. in 1873, Henley sought the help of the surgeon Joseph Lister, after being told that his right leg would have to be amputated as well. Lister performed multiple surgeries that allowed Henley to keep his leg, and it was while recovering from this that Henley was inspired to write “Invictus”.

this appears to be a reference to the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who wrote in his 1886 book Beyond Good and Evil that “He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”

here, Arthur quotes the beginning of a speech from the play Henry V by William Shakespeare. the speech is given by King Henry in Act 3, Scene 1.

part 23: the past

another Robert Frost reference, not much I can say about this one that hasn’t already been covered.

part 24: the mine

again, not much to say about the phrase itself. but it is interesting to me that the last line of this episode is Arthur saying “this too shall pass”, which was also the last line of part 21, but spoken by Yellow.

part 26: the bedrock

this is the third reference to “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening” this season, the most of any season so far. it’s also notable that John is able to recite a part of the poem we haven’t heard from Arthur before.

part 28: the undefeated

Larson is reciting “A Poison Tree” by William Blake. the poem was published in 1794 as part of Blake’s Songs of Experience collection.

Balaam, the Donkey, and the Angel

21 So in the morning Balaam got up, saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.

22 Then God’s anger was kindled because Balaam was going along, and the angelb of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding his donkey, and his two servants were with him.

23 When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the path and went into a field. So Balaam beat her to return her to the path.

Story of Balaam - Prophet and Talking Donkey in the Bible?

Jesus, God, and Holy Spirit's Ban on Pesticide, Insecticides, and Cruel traps

Fwd: as jesus, God and the holy ghost pointed out a ban should be placed on all current insecticides and pesticides as if you were considered a pest you would not want to be done as living beings of God's. As scripture states spiders live in kings houses proverbs 30:28, the beasts in god's throne room revelation 4:6, psalms 50 and numbers 22:21. You would not want to be a poor mother mouse seeking food to get your neck broken and bleed out from trying to get food from a trap or a dad roach seeking food to get stuck to a cruel sticky pad to starve to death. Think before you consider someone or what has been referred to as a weed as a pest and how you would want to be treated.

1st John 1:5: This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all.

“How do we know which part of God's Word applies to our current situation?”

“God made many promises in the Bible. But there is confusion among Christians about which verses we can claim as a definite commitment from Him. Three questions are useful in determining whether divine promises apply to our personal situation:

Is this promise limited to a specific individual or circumstance, or does it apply to all believers? For example, the pledge made to Abraham and Sarah about the birth of their child (Genesis 18:10) is restricted to them. But Hebrews 13:5 contains a guarantee to all Christians that Jesus will be with them forever.

Are we asking the Lord to meet a need or a desire? A need is something that we must have in order for God to complete His work in our life. A desire is something we want for satisfaction.

Before fulfilling a promise, does God require some action on our part? Proverbs 3:5-6 is a conditional promise, which pledges God’s direction on the basis of our trust in Him. On the other hand, Jesus’ assurance of His presence with believers is unconditional; it does not depend on anything we do (Matthew 28:20).

By evaluating Scripture on the basis of these questions, we’re able to know which promises apply to our own circumstances. And remember: As 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV) says, “No matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”

[Sophia] is mother, wife, lover, beloved, virgin, and bride (cf. Job 28; Proverbs 1-9; Sir 24:1-2; Wis 7:21-26). Sometimes it is said that she is now hidden and unapproachable (Job 28:13; Sir 1:20-32); in other texts (Wis 7:24-27; Sir 1:10, 15; 6:20-22) she can be found by those who seek her and who are among the elect.

Fun fact: I know exactly who this is. No need to remain anonymous, or are you afraid of what your friends would think if they saw you telling strangers to kill themselves?

And I've attempted to before. The very first time I tried to take my own life was when I was 12. I took a handful of my medicine.

After I recovered, I started going to church. I found peace in worshipping God and Jesus Christ. I loved going to church, I loved being part of such a community.

I was raped at 14 inside of a church by someone I thought I could trust, and I tried to kill myself again when I was 15.

My view of religion turned sour, and I began to realize how fictional the Bible was, how evil it was. I turned my back on God and Jesus. If God's love is conditional, then I want nothing to do with it.

People like you, mindless Christians who follow an ancient book blindly, hoping it'll give you answers for the unexplained, it gives you comfort believing that there's something out there that you can trust.

And I respect that.

But for you to use such evil as a way to explain your immoral actions is unjustifiable. You ignore everything in those pages except for what you can use to hurt others.

Let's take a look at a few paragraphs.

Deuteronomy 22:5 - A woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment; for whosoever doeth these things is an abomination unto the Lord thy God.

Deuteronomy 22:28 - If a man comes upon a young woman, a virgin who is not betrothed, seizes her and lies with her, and they are discovered, the man who lay with her shall give the young woman's father fifty silver shekels and she will be his wife, because he has violated her.

Genesis 7:21 - Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.

Deuteronomy 21:18 - And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

Proverbs 23:13 - Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die.

1 Samuel 15:3 - Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.

Leviticus 21:17 - For the generations to come none of your descendants who has a defect may come near to offer the food of his God. No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed; no man with a crippled foot or hand, or who is a hunchback or a dwarf, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles.

Leviticus 20:13 - If a man lies with a male as with a woman, they have committed an abomination; the two of them shall be put to death; their bloodguilt is upon them.

Timothy 2:11 - A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.

Leviticus 26:29 - You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.

Ephesians 6:5 - Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.

Genocide, sexism, homophobia, racism, murder, and none of this is important to you because god forbid, someone's gay!

The Wise Woman

1 The wise woman builds her house, But the woman of folly tears it down with her own hands. 2 He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh, But he who is devious in his ways despises Him. 3 In the mouth of the ignorant fool is a rod of lofty pride, But the lips of the wise will keep them. 4 Where no oxen are, the manger is clean, But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox. 5 A faithful witness will not lie, But a false witness breathes out lies. 6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding. 7 Leave the presence of a fool, As you have not known lips of knowledge there. 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, But the folly of fools is deceit. 9 Ignorant fools scoff at guilt, But among the upright there is favor. 10 The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its gladness.

"I KNOW ALSO, my God, THAT YOU TEST THE HEART and HAVE PLEASURE IN UPRIGHTNESS. As for me, IN THE UPRIGHTNESS OF MY HEART I HAVE WILLINGLY OFFERED ALL THESE THINGS; AND NOW WITH JOY I HAVE SEEN YOUR PEOPLE, who are present here to OFFER WILLINGLY TO YOU."

1 Chronicles 29:17 (NKJV)

• The above statement of Bible passage was said or made by David the King as a statement of prayer to God. He said he did the Giving of his substance with a good motive or heart.

- David and the people gave sacrificially with Joy and enthusiasm (2 Corinthians 9:7). An offering given with a good motive would not be turned down, It would be accepted by God (1 Chronicles 29:17).

- However, If the motives of the Giver are wrong, both the gift and the Giver would be rejected, and there will be no rewards: "THE SACRIFICE OF AN EVIL PERSON IS DETESTABLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS OFFERED WITH WRONG MOTIVES" (Proverbs 21:27 NLT).

- In David's earthly journey, he recognizes that your heart or motive in whatever you do matters and It is important in the sight of God. He had the understanding of spiritual principles, thus, he was circumspect in his relationship with others, especially those who are God's anointed; except in the matter or case of taking Uriah's wife and the killing of the man in a bid to conceal it.

- Your intent or intention is known by God in whatever you do:

9 “AS FOR YOU, MY SON SOLOMON, KNOW THE GOD OF YOUR FATHER, AND SERVE HIM WITH A LOYAL HEART AND WITH A WILLING MIND; FOR THE LORD SEARCHES ALL HEARTS AND UNDERSTANDS ALL THE INTENT OF THE THOUGHTS. IF YOU SEEK HIM, HE WILL BE FOUND BY YOU; BUT IF YOU FORSAKE HIM, HE WILL CAST YOU OFF FOREVER. 10 CONSIDER NOW, FOR THE LORD HAS CHOSEN YOU TO BUILD A HOUSE FOR THE SANCTUARY; BE STRONG, AND DO IT" " (1 Chronicles 28:9 NKJV).

• Someone who came with an offering to God, with a perverted heart, such offering would not be accepted (Genesis 4:3-5).

- Cain's offering and the person of him were not respected by God. It could be deduced that he and his offering were rejected because of the state of his heart (Genesis 4:5-7).

- As a believer in Christ Jesus, whatever you have is given to you by God; It is from Him you received it to begin with: "O LORD OUR GOD, ALL THIS ABUNDANCE WE HAVE PREPARED TO BUILD YOU A HOUSE FOR YOUR HOLY NAME IS FROM YOUR HAND, AND IS ALL YOUR OWN" (1 Chronicles 29:16 NKJV).

- A believer should be able to see it as a privilege to give to God. You should see yourself as nothing or nobody to give to God, It is a privilege: "BUT WHO AM I, AND WHO ARE MY PEOPLE, THAT WE COULD GIVE ANYTHING TO YOU? EVERYTHING WE HAVE HAS COME FROM YOU, AND WE GIVE YOU ONLY WHAT YOU FIRST GAVE US!" (1 Chronicles 29:14 NLT).

• God has more than enough. If He did ask you to give, it is for your good—for your blessing and benefit.

- When God demanded from you, that you give to Him or His mission or work, He has something big He wanted to give to you in return. You risk what you have in your hand, sow It as a seed, or put it in God's hand, for you to experience a great return or harvest.

- If you cannot risk what you have, do not expect any return as a harvest. Sowing a seed of faith is a risk which a believer should always take for him or her to continually experience bumper and unceasing harvest.

- Every blessing of God is conditional. The major condition for a believer to be materially or financially blessed in the Kingdom is to prioritize your Giving; have a Giving pattern and be sensitive to God's leadings or promptings on Giving—whenever He urges or stirs you to lay down or give, do not hesitate!

• You will not fail in Jesus' name.

- Should there be any ailment in your body, receive your healing now in Jesus' mighty name.

- Whatever is not of God in your body that is working against your health and wellness is cursed and completely rooted out in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

STEPS TO SALVATION

• Take notice of this:

IF you are yet to take the step of salvation, that is, yet to be born-again, do it now, tomorrow might be too late (2 Corinthians 6:1,2; Hebrews 3:7,8,15).

a. Acknowledge that you are a sinner and confess your Sins (1 John 1:9); And ask Jesus Christ to come into your life (Revelation 3:20).

b. Confess that you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that you confess it with your mouth, Thus, you accept Him As your Lord and Saviour (Romans 10:9,10).

c. As you took the steps A and B your name is written in the Book of Life (Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:8).
