Krill Variant Headcanons
This one’s very long so I had to get on my laptop to finish it. No pictures this time but I might make some later.
Standard Dark Dragon
A large, spikey looking creature with long horns and covered in dark colors and pointed armor.
Status: Alive
Location: Golden Wasteland, Eye of Eden
Diet: Anything that provides light/heat
Hunting method: Using sight to scan the area for food, followed by charging at it’s prey
Notable abilities: Strong hunger tolerance makes them able to wait a long, long time before any new meals arrive. This allowed this to survive when all other vairiants went extinct
Notes: The most aggressive of all dragons
Fossil Dark Dragon
A variant that is longer in length from a standard dragon, but typically lacks spikes on the body. It’s usually a tan or brown color aside from squishy, dark colored spots on the back of its armor that absorbed sunlight. Horns are described as comparable to a deer or moose’s antlers.
Status: Extinct
Location: Isle of Dawn (formerly)
Diet: Butterflies, Birds, Absorbed sunlight
Hunting Method: Primarily hibernates with only specialized, heat-absorbing parts of the body exposed. Leave hibernation when sunny-seasons end, and only hunt light-bearing creatures when hungry. They usually hunt within the flying ranges of either animal to eat them in the same vein as real-world baleen whales.
Notable Abilities: Can see father than standard dark dragons; have heat-absorbing sections on their backs for ‘eating’ sunlight during hibernation; slow metabolism, but bad hunger tolerance.
Notes: While they are active hunters when not hibernating, their mouths are too small to consume people. They seem to pass the mirror test, and have been known to “play” with people that gain their trust and the creations people have made (ie. boats, abandoned pots)
Pugnose Dragon
A dragon that is about a quarter the size of the standard dragon. Jokingly referred to as a domestic form of the species despite none ever being documented as being good pets (and also for being wild animals). Dark blue coloration and rounded armor with yellow spots that are bio-luminescent when hunting. Rounded, almost nubby horns.
The crab offspring are known to steal unused pots and other hollow creations to act as shells.
Status: Extinct
Location: Daylight Prairie (formerly)
Diet: Absorbed sunlight, will eat butterflies on rare occasions where sunlight is suddenly less abundant
Hunting Method: Bask in the sunniest possible locations in droves to collect sunlight during the day. Butterfly mating season, where butterflies are most abundant, is the ideal time to hunt these insects. They dragon will fly into the clouds and let the spots on their back glow to attract mate-ready butterflies. The insects are often fed to the crab offspring for nourishment.
Notable Abilities: Bio-luminescent spots for hunting prey and absorbing light.
Notes: This species is the most playful and has never actively tried to attack a person unless it’s offspring were in danger.
Softshell Dragon/Cavecrab
(Former) A dragon variant with soft, almost nonexistent armor. The front is comparable to a rhinoceros horn, but it is used to dig tunnels into wet clay or dirt for breeding. Straight, rigid horns are also useful for this. Typically a greyish color with dark green streaks across certain parts of the body.
(Modern) Species is indistinguishable from the larval (crab) form of the standard dark dragon.
Status: Evolved
Location: Hidden Forest
Diet (formerly): Mushrooms, birds, jellyfish, mantas
Diet (modern): Mushrooms and rude children that don’t leave them alone
Hunting Method (formerly): Climb along trees and other surfaces to absorb light from mushrooms and be within range of catchable prey. Live prey are lunged at with great speed.
Hunting Method (modern): You know exactly what they do, they charge at you and then laugh in your face they’re the worst.
Notable Abilities (formerly): Proficient in crawling along most surfaces in the Forest; can use long ‘nose’ to burrow holes into wet dirt and clay at the peak of regularly scheduled (ie: natural) rainy seasons to breed.
Notable Abilities (modern): Will remain in the larval crab stage it’s entire life unless given certain hormone treaments, but can still breed when at full size, making them comparable to the axolotl.
Notes: Kinda sucks that they stopped being long worm things but it’s probably for the best, can you imagine these things if they still matured??
Twintail Dragon
A white creature of average dragon size but with a shortened, nubby tail with two long protrusions of either red or blue color. These protrusions are the dragon’s eyes, they are flexible and give the dragon it’s ‘twintail’ name. They have no horns and rely on its shovel-like nose to dig Into the snow while it’s ‘tails’ stick from the surface. All normally sharp points are rounded off in a way that makes travel in the snow easy.
The offspring are 1% crab, 9% anger, and 90% fluff. They look like cotton balls with legs.
Status: Extinct
Location: Valley of Triumph (formerly)
Diet: Sunlight and anything they can catch that releases heat
Hunting Method: Buries into the snow with only it’s (Blue) tails sticking out. The tails absorb heat and can see prey from a radius as long as it’s own body. The dragon will move only a certain part of it’ body while the tails stay in place to snap up food. The tails turn red when it spots prey.
Notable Abilities: Good at digging; very good at being distracting.
Notes: Sometimes they're very bad at gauging where things are and will accidentally dig into a frozen lake; They make funny noises when this happens. The crabs also make good balls for any sport you want to get started on.
Bookworm Dragon
The tiniest known dragon variant. They grow to about the length of an adult’s forearm. Their color depends on the room you find them in, and you can breed two colors together for cool patterns, but we urge you to not do that.
They reproduce in the very large droves and the babies scare me more than the adults sometimes.
Status: Extinct (thank the stars)
Location: Vault of Knowledge (formerly)
Diet: Whatever light it can get hold of, mostly from the lamps
Hunting Method: They just breed a bunch and destroy our lamps we hate them.
Notable Abilities: Manage to disappear to moment you look away from them. I just want my lamps to work darn it!
Notes: I hate them, please keep them away. They keep scaring the librarians and eating our lamps.
Garden-gate Dragon
Alegidly existed at one point. Is indescribable.
Status: Extinct (thankfully)
Location: Eye of Eden (formerly?)
Diet: unknown
Hunting Method: possibly the same as standard dark dragon.
Notable Abilities: Is completely and totally unknowable.
Notes: I was told anybody that looked at these things just straight up died so that’s really foreboding.

((Little 3 year old Ariana)) "Woki, will you tell me a stowy, pwease?"
“Once upon a time there were two little princes, one of them dark haired and clever, the other pug-nosed and foolhardy. They decided to play angels and demons. Now, angels in the lore of Asgard were vicious creatures and just as formidable as demons, so Pugnose the angel bullied the clever demon all over the palace, and claimed he was in the right because demons were evil and beings of hellfire.
“So the little demon tricked Pugnose into thinking he’d climbed up a chimney. When the ferocious angel climbed up, the demon prince lit the hearth beneath him and called it ‘hellfire’. Pugnose had to sit in the chimney, coughing and whingeing, until the fire burned down. He came out black with soot and his mummy told him off for getting so dirty.
“And that’s why you must never be cruel to people who are cleverer than you.”
