Ayşe was born around 1613, she was greek. With permission of Kösem Sultan, Murad IV rewarded her with Haseki Sultan title. In 1633, Murad raises her salary to 2000 aspers a day. The number and identity of her childern has not been confirmed. Angelo Alessandri, a secretary of venetian ambassador wrote about her that she was of Greek origin. According to him, although she was beautiful, she was not as beautiful in spirit as her mother- in law Kösem. Apparently, Ayse was a woman who wasted her money more for greed then generosity. Murad was known for loving Ayşe. He treated her like a queen and she behaved like a queen.Ayşe accompanied Murad IV to Baghdad Campaign. Which was unusal since the incident with Bayezid I amd Olivera Lazarevic when they were captured by Timur. According to austrian historian Joseph von Hammer- Purgstall, Ayşe witnessed the entire campaign.Murad IV passed away in February 1640. We know that Kaya Esmehan's mother came into conflict with Kösem Sultan because Kösem wanted to marry the little girl Kaya to Melek Ahmed Pasha, who was about the same age as Kösem, and she succeeded in doing so. Ayse's salary was cut to just 100 aspers per day. This could just be a coincidence or a hint that Ayse was Kaya's mother. Ayşe passed away in 1679/1680.

‘The covenant of love was granted to me on the day when there was no day, in my primal time, before she appeared to conclude the contract. And I obtained my love not by hearing or seeing, not by acquisition and not by an inclination of nature, but I loved her already in the world of divine command, when nothing had appeared, before creation I was drunk.’

Ibn al-Farid was born in 1181 in Cairo, Egypt, during the Ayyubid period. He was a member of a prominent family and received a classical education in Islamic sciences, literature, and poetry. Ibn al-Farid is regarded as one of the greatest mystical poets in Arabic literature. His work has profoundly influenced subsequent generations of poets and Sufis.
The Diwan of Ibn al-Farid is a collection of his poetry, encompassing his famous qasidas (odes) and other forms of Arabic poetry. This compilation showcases his mastery in both poetic form and spiritual depth and reflects themes of divine love, union with God, and the spiritual journey.
Through translations, his mystical odes were known in the European region, first by Viennese court interpreter and friend of Goethe Josef von Hammer-Purgstall (1774 - 1856): The Arabic Song of Love (1854). 1917 the didactic poem ‘Al-Ta'iyyah al-Kubra’ was translated into Italian by Ignazio Di Matteo, critically analysed by Carlo Alfonso Nallino ‘Poema mistico’ and Alleyne Nicholson's work of 1940 'The Odes of Ibnu 'l-Farid' bulding the basis for this edition by Prof. Renate Jacobi.

Love poetry - Ideal of love
Individual relationship of lovers above the norms and demands of society
Frequent motif:
Conflict, experienced as tragic in a world of social change, as a hopeless relationship in which the lovers who cling to it perish; Typical of ‘udhritic poetry (Bedouin tribe of the ’Udhra): By no means platonic, but sexual fulfilment only in marriage, which, however, is denied
‘The poet and his beloved have known each other since childhood, fall in love and want to marry, but the woman is married off to a richer man by her parents. The lovers remain faithful to each other. They meet, but without offending decency, and in the end the poet, and sometimes the lover, die of grief.’
‘Poets of the ‘Udhra tribe from the 7th century sang of their passionate love for a single woman who outlasts death. Before that, the concept of ‘udhrite love (al-hubb al-’udhri) was derived, which plays an important role in classical Arabic literature, in poetry and prose, as well as in profane love theory.’
Famous couples:
> Djamil and Buthaina (Djamil ibn Ma'mar, d. 701, is the most important poet of the ‘udhra tribe; his divan is considered relatively reliable) > Kuthaiyir and ‘Azza (Kuthaiyir, d. 723) > Qais and Lubna (Qais ibn al-Dharih, d. 689, like Kuthaiyir belonging to a different tribe, but attributed to the ‘Udhrite school; from the tribe of “Amir, called al-Madjnun ”the madman’ and his lover Laila; Poeticised by many mystical poets in many Islamic literatures + symbol of absolute love of God; doubts about historicity, attributed verses probably do not date from the 7th century either;) Basic structure resembles ‘udhritic poetry, yet deviations:
‘After Madjnun loses Laila, he falls into madness. He turns away from human society and lives among the animals in the desert until his death, focussing entirely on his love for Laila. His renunciation of the outside world is so total that he is unable to turn his attention to the real Laila when she visits him in the desert. His inner image of her holds him completely captive.’ [p. 161]
(The poet's response to his lover's accusation that he does not pay attention to her:)
‘You fill my heart so much that I cannot look at you.’
[Abbas ibn al-Ahnaf, d. 808)
'Udhritic love in two genres: Poetic (ghazal) and narrative form; complement each other and are placed in a historical context in Arabic tradition
+ Narratives initially oral, records were collected in the 8th century
Tumblr media
The concept of ‘udhritic love’ reached Heinrich Heine via Henri Stendhal's treatise ‘De l'amour’ (1822):
The wonderful Sultan’s daughter Every day used to rush, Around the evening hour to the fountain, Where the white waters splash. The young slave stood pale At the fountain, around evening,, Where the white waters wail; And his paleness was increasing. One evening the princess approached him With sudden words, like a whip: I want to know your name, Your home and your kinship! And the slave spoke: My name is Mohammed I come from the Yemen that I cherish, And I stem from the tribe of Asra, From those who, when they love, they perish. [Translation by Joseph Masaad]

@ottomanladies I want to ask you something. Although Turhan Sultan withdrew from the regency in September 1656, she was effective in the administration until her death, didn't she? We know that Köprülü Mehmed Pasha continued to submit reports to her, that Turhan Sultan ruled the empire when Köprülü Mehmed Pasha was not in the capital, and that Turhan Sultan supported him against his enemies. In 1676, according to the report of the Venetian ambassador Giacomo Querini, Turhan Sultan still dealt with state affairs.

''[Turhan Sultan] has fame and glory, she respects the public. She became more of a friend to Prince Suleiman than a stepmother. She is greatly respected by the Padishah. Those who wanted to block her were unable to do so. She interferes in the administration with her advice and talents, and joins the monarchy as a partner. She is always with her servants. ” [Source: Barozzi-Berchet, Turchia, volume II, page 135]

In addition, in 1667, Turhan Sultan sent letters to the Emperor Leopold I of Austria and Empress Margarita Theresa in order to resolve the problems between the Ottoman Empire and Austria. We learn from the Austrian historian Joseph von Hammer-Purgstall that Turhan Sultan corresponded with Emperor Leopold I and Empress Margarita Theresa. He writes in volume 6 of his history series 'Geschichte des osmanischen Reiches'.

According to what Dimitrie Cantemir recorded, Turhan Sultan was against Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Pasha, who wanted to start military campaign against Austria in 1683, and Shaykh al-Islam Çatalcalı Ali Efendi was also supporting Turhan Sultan. On the other hand, in the following process, the grand vizier succeeded in convincing Turhan Sultan and war was declared against Austria. If the grand vizier had not been able to persuade Turhan Sultan, the war called 'The Battle of Vienna' would never have happened. Turhan Sultan had the final decision authority even in 1683. She is an incredible woman. I think she is a more important woman than Kösem Sultan and she does not see the value she deserves.

Zoanoid, Zoalord
Tumblr media
“Purgstall on Hold WIP” © Arif Pribaldi, accessed at his ArtStation here
[Commissioned by @coldbloodassassin. A little retconning is in order here. Originally when I made the first batch of zoanoids, I made them the tools of the zern. My rationale was to give the zern something to do, and because they’re not the usual suspects of fleshwarping, like drow or demon cults. Now I’ve been commissioned for a whole huge batch of zoanoids, with representatives up to CR 20. So I’m putting them back into the hands of the zoalords, with the zern as their former masters.]
Zoalord CR 20 LE Aberration This powerful humanoid stands about twice as tall as an ordinary human. A crown of horns grows from its head, and several gems are embedded in its flesh. Its hands are clawed, but it has a nearly human face with a dangerous, appraising intelligence. It is clad in a suit of magnificent armor, which moves like a second skin.
When the zern created the zoanoids, they developed a control mechanism known as a “zoacrystal”, designed to allow the zern to mentally dominate their zoanoid subjects with ease. They implanted these zoacrystals into zoanoid lieutenants, the intention being to create a chain of command. These empowered zoanoids, calling themselves zoalords, revolted against their zern masters. Now, the zoalords steer the destiny of the zoanoids, seeking no less than the subjugation of entire planets.
No two zoalords are alike, as each has a specialized suite of psychic magic, and is attuned to a different type of elemental energy. All stand between ten and twelve feet tall, have bodies that look like humanoids encased in resplendent armor, and each carries their zoacrystal embedded somewhere in their flesh. All of them are usually found with a retinue of zoanoids of a variety of types to serve and protect them. Zoalords tend to cooperate in order to consolidate power and conspire against other races, but these alliances can be fractious, and especially strong personalities may dominate such councils or run renegade.
Zoalords often live double lives, disguised as a mortal in order to keep tabs on the state of the world and to accrue temporal power and wealth. This wealth is often channeled into the creation of other zoanoids. A favorite tactic is to override a humanoid’s mind with their psychic abilities, convert them into a zoanid while insensate but alive, then restore the zoanoid’s faculties in order to more properly control them. Such zoanoid sleeper agents may not even know of their new monstrous form until they are triggered by a zoalord to revert and wreak havoc.
