Took me about 60 hours which is CRAZY,, I call this one The Quark Family when I’m talking about it (which seems apt) and I’ve literally crammed so many references and details and hours into this my life feels so empty without it. Tumblr is butchering the image quality but that’s just what it is ig,,, I’ve tried and I can’t seem to fix it

Leliana’s scouts informed us some of the caravans north had been waylaid by bandits, but I should have known with Bull and the Chargers along, nothing could delay you. Everyone sends their love except Sera, who’s instead defaced every page in this sheaf and then run laughing up to the roof. The rude gesture in the corner is from her.

Varric has asked twice now in his offhanded way if the Inquisition might be traveling along the Imperial Highway in the next few weeks. He’s eager to return to Kirkwall, even if he’s allergic to saying it straight out, and Vivienne has wished to speak with a band of Aequitarian mages in Val Royeaux for some time, so I expect we’ll bivouac our own way north shortly. Please post your next reply to Halamshiral and we’ll pick it up on the way.

As regards your last letter: I appreciate your concern, but I’m quite all right. I know I was unlike myself on our recent adventure into the Deep Roads, but your forbearance with me (and my uncharacteristic impetuousness) was very generous. I’m fully recovered now, I assure you, and have put all distractions behind me. My solemn oath to stop jumping off ledges without looking is inscribed here for your approval.

Speaking of approval, please look over the changes I’ve made to the Ameridan paper (enclosed). The green ink is addition, the red revision, and the blue strikethroughs have been cut. In particular, please review the section on Ameridan’s known—and most incontrovertible—history, especially the citations from Renaures and Bescond. There’s a Genitivi monograph I’m trying to track down which would do a great deal to preempt Chantry objections, but I’m having difficulty laying hands on an unaltered original. I have high hopes one might be hiding in a University of Orlais library, but until I can coax the librarian to pack it in goosedown and ship it east, Renaures is our strongest advocate.

Listen to me. Shows aimed at kids will always have a lower bar than ones aimed at adults and especially ones aimed at adults who are already invested in the franchise. Prodigy didn't have to be as good as any other modern trek show. And yet, it's better. I do still love LD more but Prodigy is objectively the best new trek show. It's miles above the bar it had to reach while others (definitely Pic, arguably SNW) fail to reach even the bar set for Prodigy, let alone their own bars. Prodigy is a very good show, it both values its predecessors and looks into the future, it treats both existing and new characters fairly, it's the one new trek that truly doesn't shy away from worldbuilding, it preserves the spirit of star trek and even if none of this were true, it's the only show with the intention of bringing in new fans. It truly is the legacy series. Plus it is simply enjoyable to watch.

Watch Prodigy.

Rhizomes, A Brief History (Part 1)

spoilers for zero escape: virtue’s last reward under the cut

So the basic premise of the Rhizome that I’m working with assumes that the Moon is a planetoid without a molten core, and that it’s because of its shape rather than its size that enables it to orbit the Earth. The science then assumes that there’s a weight variance of about 10-15% going either way before it starts to negatively affect the Earth.

So, keeping the shape in mind, what the engineers did is they designed the Rhizome to be built modularly but underground so that there wouldn’t be any giant structures throwing off the Moon’s orbit. And what the constructors did to help is get the approximate weight of a cubic meter of Moon rock (by having the astronauts bring the rock down to earth), and then create construction materials that were built solid while weighing about as much as the amount of moon rock they would replace.

The ease of modular building enabled the inhabitants of the Rhizome project to build their own living space with minimal assistance from construction crews. This enabled the UN to hire workers and pay them a retainer to live onsite and work the plug-n-play. But every Rhizome always starts with the same basics: two warehouses stacked on top of each other, a three-story service lift connecting the warehouses and the Moon’s surface, and crew quarters split off one of the warehouses, dealer’s choice.

Crash Keys, an investment firm known to the UN as unfocused in regards to acquisitions but *scarily* accurate as an information broker, was easily able to get exclusive rights to Rhizome 9 on *very* short notice. Due to this short notice, only the listed basics were built into the Moon.

(And if they passed a tip to the UN in early January that the Project needed to speed up a little, enabling the construction of over fifty Rhizomes by April, well. They *are* known for their accuracy.)

all of that to say that by the end of the Diana period of the 45 Year Foretold section, Rhizome 9 only has eight rooms besides the warehouse, and four of them aren’t there until about year three or so. the original four rooms Sigma and Diana have to work with are the four crew quarter rooms from the game. one room is housing the cryo pods, one room that doubles as the medical office if one of them gets sick and Diana’s biomed classroom, one is Sigma’s bedroom (for sleeping and studying *only*, no shenanigans), and the last is Diana’s, which Sigma has never seen before.

thank FUCK theres another tenmyouji and quark appreciator in this world!!!!!!!!! tenmyouji junpei spent his WHOLE LIFE dedicated to looking for akane but he still got to have this one thing! hes still so kind that he tried to figure out how to parent an orphaned kid on his own. JUNPEI HAS A KID AND HE NAMED HIM QUARK!! HE NAMED HIM QUARK BECAUSE HES SMALL AND TOUGH!! he loves that kid so much that he puts akane on backburner after spending DECADES trying to find her. he tries to teach quark so he will be okay once he dies. he brings quark with him to the nonary game because he cant just leave him alone. the ending where he carries quark through the 9 door while his bp is still down is so sad. youre telling me quark is going to wake up with the dead body of his grandpa just sitting there! thats heartbreaking! he bought the kid a root beer float. quark is probably one of the only things that keeps him going in his old age as he slowly realizes hes likely not going to be able to see akane again. and quark trusts and loves him so much! theyre so. theyre literally family. the fear he must have felt when quark was diagnosed with radical-6. realizing he was going to have to watch his kid kill himself. quark is so young and energetic and hes so old and traumatized and they balance each other out in a way thats so interesting to see. he spent all night looking for quark in the rain and collapsed when quark ran away! tenmyouji junpei adopted a kid and he did such a fucking good job as a grandfather, he loves quark so much and quark really loves him and knows him. in both nonary games hes been in, tenmyouji junpei has been able to survive only because of the love he has for someone else in the game.

Torches in silver sconces blazed merrily on either side of the fine carved doors. They called to passersby in crackling welcome, as did the cultured cheers and calls of laughter within which burst out at every entering patron. Every now and then the doors opened to reveal glimpses of diners in glittering gowns and robes, two glass chandeliers a trifle large for the space, and the scent of beautifully cooked meat.

Tav, who had a new rent in her cloak and a still-damp mudstain down her entire left leg, would just as soon have gone back to the Elfsong for the evening; but a crew of rebuilding construction workers had at last taken on the inn’s shattered west wall, and all guests had been summarily displaced for the duration. Two days, they’d said. Three, if the Elder Brain’s death throes had fractured the foundation. Not much she could do there without taking up a hammer herself.

And besides, Astarion was here. It was a restaurant and auberge just to his taste: on the low side of the Upper City, grossly overpriced, staffed with obsequious parlor-maids and utterly choked with gilt candelabra. She’d have preferred taking up at the Blushing Mermaid, but Astarion had made it clear washed sheets were a non-negotiable, and that had severely limited their options.
