hi! i've been very wistfully admiring of your cooking and baking prowess but i'm about at the level of "pasta, vegetable, protein, jarred sauce" at this point and can't imagine getting to where you are. are there recipes you'd recommend for beginners? who hypothetically maybe have never used their oven?
Personally, right now I'm just about in the same spot---my desire to cook things has dropped precipitously, I've survived the last few weeks on salads and roasted chicken and crackers with cheese. But the good news is that there are plenty of options for the lazy cook! And the even better news is that I have all sorts of recipes for you...
DO NOT MAKE ME USE THE OVEN, SO HELP ME GOD
Quinoa Tabbouleh (lots of chopping, but afterwards you can make a giant vat of it and eat it slowly over the course of a week...)
Greek Tuna Salad (throw a bunch of cans together in a giant bowl, then eat it on lettuce)
White Bean and Broccoli Dip with Pesto (I make this by the bucket in the summer, though typically I use parmesan instead of nutritional yeast---and I eat it off of rice cakes!)
Pesto Gnocchi (green beans, cherry tomatoes, and delicious, delicious gnocchi, all smothered in pesto. Literally, where would you go wrong?)
SANDWICHES ARE GROWN-UP FOOD!!
Spicy Vegan Wraps (I am not personally vegan, but I make this all the fucking time)
Lemon Radish Tartine
Roasted Tomato Tartine (....listen you call it a "tartine" and I immediately get really interested)
Chicken Avocado Wraps (not something I make too often, but incredibly easy and mostly about shredding your chicken properly)
I HAVE EXACTLY ONE (1) POT
Quinoa-Kale Bowl (unbelievably easy, and the result is delicious)
BBQ Chicken Quinoa Casserole (this in particular makes for really great leftovers---especially if work has a microwave)
Dump & Bake Chicken and Rice (sometimes you just want a bunch of stuff covered in sauce and it's warm and delicious.)
Smothered Mushrooms and Kale (it's got nutrients and also tastes pretty good)
KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES (I.E., WHAT TO COOK WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING COMPANY)
Beet Bruschetta with Goat Cheese and Basil (I have made this for multiple different groups, as well as for myself, and every time---EVERY TIME---it's amazing.)
One-Pot Pasta with Sausage and Squash (slightly more sophisticated than the one-pot recipes above---but so fancy! and delicious.)
Puff Pastry Fruit Braid (did you think I'd get through this entire list without a single dessert? this is probably the most adaptable, consistently delightful recipe I have---and incredibly, incredibly easy to use, manipulate, or do whatever you want with. Features helpful pictures, and I think I've used every fruit combination you can imagine.)

Festival Foods of Brightshine
Whole Featherback Roast- a dish said to satisfy even an Imperial, a Featherback Boar is roasted whole on a spit for nearly two days. The boar is basted with a sauce of lemon, Wild Mustard, Vegetable Oil, Succulent Spears, and Bumble Honey. The feathery wings are roasted separately, but then re-feathered and presented alongside the boar for the most opulent plating.
Sweet Puff Quiche- a pie pastry filled with cubes of Featherback Boar ham, wilted Light’s Breath, Potato Onions, Mycena Mushrooms, and a mixture of Sweet Puff eggs and Micro Goat milk. Baked till a golden crust forms and garnished with Sanddrift Aconite flowers, one must wonder if it is worth it to steal eggs from bird that can be sweet or full of RAGE.
Stuffed Hallow Ivy- for this dish Hallow Ivy leaves are boiled to soften them before being stuffed with White Quinoa, Wild Onions, Minty Jadevine, and chopped Sunkernals before being boiled again. Often served with lemon slices and sides of smoked Micro Goat Cheese, dried Sunbeam Figs, and Greenstripe Amaranth flat bread.
Imperial Tail Risotto- Imperial Tails are often found on the border of Lightning and Light and are a common staple grain. Though not very tasty by themselves, they can be made into a variety of risotto dishes to accompany the main meals. One of the richest involves a 24 hour Herdbeast Hoof broth and marrow, Featherback Boar lard, Celestial Antelope milk parmesan, and colored yellow with powdered Daffodil. Tundras debate if this is really a vegetarian dish.
Sun Spirals- Garden Snails are the bane of many a gardener, so the gardeners decided to make them lunch. They are fattened upon Micro Goat milk before being fried in sea salt and Vegetable Oil. Then they are served in their shells with a pungent sauce of Succulent Spears, Blacktongue Pepper, and cumin. Your lair mates will demand you eat some Peppermint hard candies least you be banned from the dinner table.
Emperor’s Blood Stew (or Gladiator Stew)-a red spicy stew consisting of sautéed Tendrilback Caterpillar deglazed with an Herbal Plantain liquor (to help combat the poison), before being doused in a rich Miniature Potash Peach (the best imported from Fire Flight) and Red Hot Pepper sauce. The pot is then stewed to soften the chewy meat of the Caterpillar till tender, though some tougher dragons prefer a quick fry variation for maximum spice.  Typically topped with Celestial Antelope milk feta- fried or fresh, and Greenstripe Amaranth flat bread.
Golden Trout Meunière- Golden Rainbow Trout migrate once a year from the Outer Seas to the Sea of a Thousand Currents to spawn, specifically during Brightshine. This bounty is quickly snagged in nets, filleted, and fried in a thin coating of Sunkernel flour till golden brown. A sauce of Celestial Antelope butter, Wild Onion, chopped Longweed Bunch, and Sour Strawberries is drizzled over top. Sometimes Luminous Almonds (imported from the Shifting Expanse) are added to the sauce to give a golden scaled appearance.
Lanternlea Lucky Eel-  Goldbelly Dragonfish frequent the Lanternlea Port, attracted by the glittering lights and the daily catch cleanings. These fish are cut down the center and stuffed with Treasure Plant leaves, Wild Onion, and Mycena Mushroom then placed in a marinade of Sunbeam Fig balsamic, sea salt, and Vegetable Oil. The fish is then grilled whole and served, though not before a gold coin is placed in its belly for one lucky dragon to find!
Bumble Buns- essentially rough doughnut holes, small balls of yeasted dough are fried in hot oil and coated in a variety of syrups and nuts and flowers. The most common is Bumble honey and toasted Sunkernels or Coral Carpenter honey and Blue Roses (which has blueberry flavor). Typically served with strong shots of Pelagas Feather tea to help balance all the sugar.
Mosun Galette- mice are considered a delicacy in Light Flight, with the most prized being the Sun Flecked Fieldmouse. Much like the snails, the mice are fattened up with Sunkernels before being harvested and roasted alongside Granny Smith Apples, all upon a round puff pastry crust. The mice and fruit are often arranged in sun ray pattern with a thick glaze of Bumble honey on top.
Meadow Wine- or Mead for short, an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of honey, sparkly, sweet, and dangerous on a warm summer day. While Bumble honey mead is the most common, the most prized mead is from the honey of the White Lace Honeybee, known for its sweetness, pale hue, and being naturally sparkling. Truly a lady of high caliber!
Summer Sunset Cocktail- a layered cocktail of Granny Smith Cider, Potash Peach nectar, White Quinoa Vodka, and Strawberry syrup all over ice.  There is much debate whether the name of this cocktail is sunrise or sunset, but it probably depends on when the party is being started.

✨ NPC TIME! INTRODUCING… A GALACTIC MESSY HO.
here we have trifid… the nebula. cataloged as messier 20 and located in Sagittarius. he’s gold! he’s an absolute fucking weirdo! no one understands a word he’s saying because he speaks in rhymes sometimes and also haiku! he’s got a lot of wigs! he’s messy! he’s the person you don’t wanna run into while shopping for quinoa puffs because all he’ll do is make condescending comments about the fact you wear sweatpants out in public! truly a messy thot that lives for drama, he’s been a good friend of vi’s family for a long time. he used to babysit, so if you’re wondering what the fuck is wrong with virote, well… trifid plays a large role in that. he’s a little rude and can’t commit to anything ( he cancelled plans with vi’s grandma because he had to sort through his gourmet water collection. ) deep down, underneath the robes, is a heart of gold. i mean he doesn’t care if you see it, but it’s there! however weird he may be, virote loves uncle trifid.
trifid doesn’t want to be called uncle. he wants to be called Overlord Trifid, Family Friend and Most Amazing Person Alive. that’s a mouthful, tho. he also loves drama! he’ll start a rumor about you, your mom, and your dog because it makes him feel alive.
he’s nice, despite that. trust me. he really is. but he’s got golden skin and wears feather robes, i don’t know what else you’d expect from someone like this.

hi!! i hope this isnt invasive but i saw your post and now im so curious, whats your skincare, hair care, and makeup routine??
omg babe i love u for asking this question<3333
skin care
If I'm wearing makeup then I'll double cleanse! I use the elf holy hydration cleansing blam and then the Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin (if not wearing makeup then only the Cetaphil cleanser)
i use rose water as my toner as all the other toners ive used give my skin a burning sensation which is bad
after that i use a salicylic acid serum at night and in the mornings i use vitamin c serum with a niacinamide sunscreen! I used to use a niacinamide serum but my fungal acne on my forehead got a little bad cause of summer so i switched to salicylic again
then i use moisturizer it's the water based one from Neutrogena it has fragrance tho so im wary while recommending it but i don't have any complaints until now and it makes my skin so plump and fresh!
lastly i use Vaseline on my lips and castor oil on my lashes
Hair care
I oil my hair a night before washing and i wash my hair twice a week i use coconut oil cause i genuinely can't stand the smell of other oils I've tried it gives me a headache 😭😭 but I'm thinking of using grapeseed oil once I'm done with this bottle
i sometimes use a rice water based hair mask if my hair feels very dry
I use the loreal professionel absolute repair hair shampoo and hair mask with protein and gold quinoa, my hair dresser recommended it to me and its working wonders!! Once in a month i use the dandruff treatment I've
After my hair is dried i use a hair strengthening serum from bare anatomy
Before sleeping i just comb my hair and tie it in a loose braid
makeup
okayyy so i start with a silicon based pore filling primer with a matte finish
then i use the maybelline age rewind concealer under my eyes and a little on my cheeks and all and then i let it rest on my face for 2 ish mins and then i blend it with a damp beauty blender
then if i want to wear blush I'll use that and then spray the nyx matte setting spray
then i do my eyes which is just eyeliner, khol and mascara.
Then i use the nyx setting powder and then i almost always either use the wet and wild brown lip liner and elf lip gloss in the shade praline or this berry coloured lip liner I've and the puff lipstick from nyx in the shade moody
if I've to do an eyeshadow look then i just do a smokey eye of some type or like dual coloured basic eye looks like the ones which require the least possible effort 🤭
ok this post is way to long now BUT u asked so <333

The Risks of Unhealthy Snacking for Kids: Obesity and Nutrient Deficiencies
Tumblr media
Listen up, parents! Those cheese puffs and fruit snacks you've been giving your little dinosaurs may be cute, but they're a recipe for disaster. Did you know that unhealthy snacking is one of the leading causes of childhood obesity and nutrient deficiencies today? Yep, it's true. All those artificial colors and flavors are like kryptonite for growing bodies and developing brains.
Tumblr media
For the 2-4 set, you've got to be vigilant. Their little hands are magnets for anything snack-sized, especially if it's shaped like their favorite animal. But cheese puffs and sugary snacks offer nothing but empty calories and dangerous trans fats. Kids this age need healthy fats for brain growth, so swap the cheese puffs for unsweetened fruit and veggie purees, mini avocado mashers or real cheese sticks.
The 5-7 crowd is a bit more independent, but still need your guidance. They'll go bananas for brightly colored gummy snacks, but these are just candy in disguise. Provide alternatives like dinosaur-themed quinoa crisps, hummus and veggie cups or yogurt with granola and fresh fruit. At this age, kids can handle some responsibility, so have them help pick out and prepare snacks. They'll be more likely to eat them!
Older kids, 8-12, may act like they don't need your input, but they do. Their bodies and brains are still developing, and unhealthy snacking can lead to acne, mood swings and poor concentration. Keep your kitchen stocked with gluten-free granola bars, trail mix, cheese and whole grain crackers. Have them invite friends over for pizza or movie nights and make your own mini pizzas on gluten-free crusts with their favorite toppings. They'll appreciate your effort and may even ditch the junk food.
The bottom line? Unhealthy snacking during childhood creates patterns that persist for life. Instill good habits now by providing nutritious, tasty snacks made from whole, real ingredients. Your kids will reap the rewards for years to come with health, vitality and sharp minds. The dinosaurs will come and go, but their nutrition is forever. Roar!

Passover popovers fall into the category of “old school” Jewish food. Like mandel bread or matzah brei, they’re one of those dishes my grandmother always made during the holiday. These recipes were popular in a time when every baked Passover dish seemed to be made of matzah meal, and before there was an abundance of grain-free flours and quinoa. You’ll find recipes for these popovers in classic Jewish cookbooks, and I think they deserve some renewed attention.
The batter for these popovers is similar to choux pastry. Choux is a pastry dough that consists of flour, butter, water, and eggs, and it’s the base for eclairs, gougères, and cream puffs. When choux pastry gets baked, it puffs up and crisps on the outside, but is hollow on the inside. Instead of flour and butter, the batter for Passover popovers is made with oil and matzah meal, making them dairy- and chametz-free. There’s a little sugar added for flavor, but these skew savory rather than sweet. Pastry dough might sound intimidating to make, but the ingredients are few, and the only tools required to make the batter is a large pot and a wooden spoon.
The eggs give the popovers their rise, an airy texture, and richness. I’ve added turmeric for a golden hue. There’s no need for a special popover dish — a muffin tray will work just fine. You can use either a standard 12-cup tray or make them in a mini-muffin tin if you prefer. I love to serve these as a Passover dinner roll alongside my entrée at the seder. During the week, the popovers go well with any kind of soup, or even at your breakfast spread with some jam, served with tea or coffee.

At Wimbledon Day Nursery, we understand the importance of introducing these bite-sized, easy-to-hold foods as part of our commitment to promoting independence and fine motor skills in our young learners.

What are Finger Foods? Finger foods are small, bite-sized pieces of food that are easy for young children, especially toddlers, to pick up and eat using their fingers. They are an essential part of a child’s transition from pureed foods to more solid foods, helping to develop their fine motor skills and independence in feeding.
Finger foods can include a variety of healthy options such as soft fruits, steamed vegetables, small pieces of protein like chicken or tofu, whole grain puffs and small pieces of cheese. It’s important to ensure that these foods are appropriately sized and soft enough to prevent choking and to always supervise children while they are eating.
Common Finger Food Ideas for Kids Finger foods to your kids’ diet can be a fun and exciting journey. Not only do they encourage self-feeding and develop fine motor skills, but they also offer a variety of flavours and textures to delight their taste buds. Here are some creative and nutritious finger food ideas for toddlers that are sure to be a hit:
Soft Fruits Fruits are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre, making them a perfect choice for toddlers. Opt for soft fruits that are easy for little hands to grasp and gentle on their developing teeth. Some great options include:
Bananas: Rich in potassium and easy to hold, bananas can be sliced into bite-sized pieces for a quick and healthy snack. Berries: Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are loaded with antioxidants and can be served whole or halved, depending on their size. Avocado: Packed with healthy fats and creamy in texture, avocado slices or cubes are a nutritious and satisfying finger food.
Steamed Vegetables Vegetables are a powerhouse of nutrients and steaming them preserves their vitamins and minerals. Choose a variety of colourful vegetables to make the mealtime visually appealing and nutritious. Some excellent choices include:
Carrots: Rich in beta-carotene, steamed carrot sticks or rounds are easy for toddlers to hold and chew. Broccoli: Packed with vitamins C and K, small florets of steamed broccoli can be a fun and healthy finger food. Sweet Potato: High in vitamin A and fibre, soft-cooked sweet potato wedges are a sweet and satisfying option.
Whole Grain Puffs Whole grain puffs are a fantastic finger food for toddlers, as they are easy to pick up and dissolve quickly in the mouth, reducing the risk of choking. They are made from whole grains like brown rice, quinoa or oats, providing essential nutrients like fibre and B vitamins. Opt for puffs with no added sugar or artificial flavours to keep it healthy.
Soft-Cooked Protein Protein is important for the growth and development of toddlers. Offering soft-cooked protein options can help meet their nutritional needs while being easy to eat. Some great protein-rich finger foods include:
Eggs: Scrambled or cut into small pieces, eggs are a versatile and nutritious option, rich in protein and essential fatty acids. Tofu: Soft or silken tofu can be cut into cubes or strips, providing a plant-based protein source that’s gentle on little tummies. Chicken: Soft-cooked, shredded chicken rolled into bite-sized strips is an excellent source of lean protein and can be easily picked up by tiny fingers.
Cheese Cheese is a great source of calcium, which is vital for the development of strong bones and teeth in toddlers. Opt for mild cheeses that are easy to digest, such as mozzarella, cheddar or cottage cheese. Cut cheese into small, bite-sized pieces or thin strips that are easy for toddlers to handle and chew.
Discover a World of Learning and Growth Introducing finger foods to toddlers is an exciting journey that can be both fun and nutritious. By offering a variety of healthy options like soft fruits, steamed vegetables, whole grain puffs, soft-cooked protein and cheese, you can ensure that your little one is getting a balanced diet while developing their self-feeding skills.

At the heart of mastering the Idly Dosa batter is the art of fermentation — a delicate process that transforms simple ingredients into culinary treasures. In Madurai, chefs and home cooks understand the importance of patience and precision in achieving perfect fermentation. From soaking the rice and lentils to grinding to the right consistency and fermenting the dough at the right temperature, every step is carefully planned to unlock the full potential of flavour and texture.
