RX-78-2 Gundam (RG Ver.2)
It's RX #10. With how many RXs I've built, it's weird I still haven't built the original RG RX. I probably should at this point, to see how different the two of them are. I really enjoy seeing just how different all the constructions are; how the joints differ, how certain details are constructed, etc. I know the first RG RX heavily relied on the pre-built inner frame that have become less relevant as the line has continued, so I know it'll be a very different process.
The Good: So this is the first RX-78-2 I've built that has the incorporated Core Fighter feature, and it's a very cool element of the build. It folds cleanly and fits very snugly into the inner body, and even has some dedicated engineering so it can bend with the torso a bit. In addition to that, this build features a lot of movement within the build itself, requiring many pieces to move out of the way of other pieces, or turn to lock itself in place to make a more solid final product. They definitely tried using as many tricks as they could at this scale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Bad: The Core Fighter and torso are the most interesting part of this build, and they're the first thing you build, so nothing else hits that initial high. And while the incorporated movement is neat, I've also built a lot of the recent RGs, so nothing about this build apart from those two elements were that new. The RX is also the most basic Gundam, so there aren't any other interesting features. If you haven't built many RGs, this probably won't be an issue for you, but if you're a prolific builder like I am, then it might get boring after the first hour.
The Details: As this is an RG, I just did panel lining. The kit itself has enough detail that paint isn't needed. I normally use a few stickers, but in this case I only did the ones for the cameras (and even those aren't necessary). Those ones were neat and had textured versions where you could faintly see the cameras themselves, so I used them because they looked cool. I would normally use all the metallic stickers, but none of my other RXs have that kind of surface detail, so I omitted them so it'd match the rest.
Overall, this is a good kit if haven't built many recent RGs, and has some very cool elements to it, but there aren't many things to keep you invested if you follow the line. As someone who's built as many RXs as I have, I'm happy to have built it, but I certainly lost steam after getting to the limbs and realizing I'd already hit the peak moment of the build. Regardless, I would definitely recommend keeping an eye on this one. There's plenty of reasons to like it.

Nice moment during May 1st of 2013 that he shared. Wonder how well they get along; especially after first time they’ve met.
(BTW, I got nothing to bring something from May 1st; via “On This Day” post. I tried hard to search throughout my photo app or my blog/page, but they always be next time. Hopefully for tomorrow.)

RG 1/144 S.N.R.I Prototype Mobile Suit XM-X1 "Crossbone Gundam"
RG Crossbone!!!! This is the 2015 remake of the kit under Gunpla Evolution Project, and it's one of the most detailed gunpla in terms of features that I've build so far!
The Crossbone was a bit of a tricky build, due to its much smaller size and large amount of small moving parts. This can make assembly pretty fiddly. Furthermore, being a newer RG it lacks the pre-built inner frame, apart from a specialized piece for the X-shaped booster unit/core fighter, which made it take a lot longer than I was expecting.
The set builds the X1 Crossbone Gundam, as well as the accompanying and iconic Jupiter core fighter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This little fighter slots in neatly to the Crossbone's chest cavity by folding down the nose and folding up the vulcan cannons. A neat feature is that despite the absolute miniscule size of the fighter, the cockpit opens and you can even see a little headrest and console! You can even see the core fighter cockpit when you open up the cockpit access hatch from the front.
Tumblr media
The kit also comes with a large number of optional parts, including 8 pre-moulded hands and a number of weapons.
Tumblr media
There's a plastic moulded anti-beam coat, as well as a really neat beam rifle (the Zanbuster) that can split apart into the Buster Gun (modeled after a flintlock pistol) and the high powered beam saber, the Beam Zanber. This comes with a really nicely molded effect part that is UV reactive.
There are also parts on the arms that swing forwards to either produce a beam weapon called the Brand Marker, or alternatively a Beam Shield (both also moulded in the same UV reactive trans-pink plastic).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the most fiddly sections of this build was the front-skirt, as this piece can transform into a scissor-anchor (similar to the shoulder mounted ones from SEED). A neat detail is the plastic moulded chain that attaches to the anchor, however, the use of this instead of the more common malleable wire makes it difficult to pose the part in anything other than a rather stiff position.
Tumblr media
The kit even includes the hidden leg-daggers, although unfortunately only the handle fits into the calves, with the blade being a separate piece.
Tumblr media
Overall this is one of the most impressively detailed RGs I've even built, especially in terms of the included gimmicks and optional parts.
The kit itself is pretty impressively posable, with extra forearm rotation, although the kit does have trouble raising its shoulders too far, and like a lot of RGs it can feel a little unbalanced.
Despite these issues I definitely recommend this kit, although probably for more experienced builders due to the more complex techniques.

RG Gundam Epyon!
Wow, what a wonderful kit! Building this one was relatively straightforward and pleasant. There’s a LOT of undergating in this kit, which helps keep it clear of nib marks, but can be very challenging to remove at times due to the small scale of a 1/144 kit.
This was my first time doing water slide decals, and WOW was it tedious at first. After much trial and error, I got into a bit of a flow with it and it became easier. The payoff is terrific, too!
I used matte spray on this one to seal in the decals as I’m unsure of how safe they are after they dry. I wasn’t taking chances after accidentally wiping off the water slides half a dozen times throughout the detailing…
I really recommend this kit! It’s a bit pricey for an RG, but the engineering of the parts and ease of assembly make it so worth it. And look how great it looks! It can even transform into a goddamned twin-headed dragon, which I didn’t do because I was afraid of fucking up any single atom of the model after building.
If you can believe it, that whip/tail attachment on the arm is ONE ENTIRE PIECE you clip directly off the runner. If you’re newer to the hobby, you may want to skip applying EVERY detail sticker that comes in the kit, as you’d be doing >100 applications.
Epyon is not very balanced with the wings and giant sword attached. The mounting bracket for the stand attaches to the backpack, which puts it at an odd angle for non-adjustable stands (I snapped a peg off of a 3D printed one my girlfriend made me before taking the final pic…). If you have patience when trying to make it balance or a spare Action Base 5 lying around, go for it!
Build cutting and assembly took about 18 hours. Panel lining took another hour. The rest was all water slide decal application. (>人<;)
Total hours: 25

Hi! Im the anon from earlier. I wanted to take a bit to tell you about my personal favorite fictional horse, and more importantly, the merchandise that's been created of him!
This is fuunsaiki from the anime mobile fighter g gundam!
Tumblr media
While he may just seem like any other horse, this is not the case as unlike most other horses, he has a gundam of his own. That's right, mobile horse fuunsaiki (yes both the horse and his mobile fighter have the same name) he even gets his own suit up sequence!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Side note: the gundams in G Gundam are piloted via mobile trace system, which functions by the user wearing a special suit that tracks their movements and the gundam moves accordingly.]
I've yet to come across any toys of his normal self, however the mobile horse he pilots has several!
There are two different model kits on the market currently that I am aware of (though as far as I can tell they are both out of print at the current moment)
The first one is the HG 1/144 kit from 2011! It came with master gundam, and once built is a semi-posable figure (slight adjustments can be made, but he's mostly stationary)
Tumblr media
This same figure was re-released with additional effects parts for RG god gundam in 2022
Tumblr media
The second one is not a regular bandai kit at all, but rather an Effects Wings kit from 2022! This fuunsaiki, unlike the HG fuunsaiki, is fully poseable, and is compatible with both HG and RG gundams.
Tumblr media
Now as for regular action figures, there's the MSiA (mobile suit in action) figure from 2002,
Tumblr media
And a robot damashii figure from 2015!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was also a gashapon figure, but I don't know much of anything about it.
Tumblr media
As of 2024, it's seems there is going to be a G-Frame fuunsaiki getting released, as well as potentially another Effects Wings kit!
It's possible I've missed a few figures, the anime has been out for 30 years and in that time a lot of different merch has been made, and some of it isn't documented very well, or easily found for sale at this point.
But I digress. Horses are cool and I hope you enjoyed this schpeal about the infamous horse who pilots a gundam!
I LOVE HIM!!!

RG gunpla are so god damn sexy, i cant stand it
sweating bullets and hands trembling putting water decals on all the meticulously color-separated parts but in 1/144 scale, accessorizing those slutty slutty RGs

(RG) OZ-a3MS Gundam Epyon
I have a weird connection with the Gundam Epyon. It's mostly that my initials are in its name, and while many people might think that's not a big deal, one of my initials is "Y," and Y is not a common letter. Epyon is such a weird unit, in universe. Like, every other OZ suit is super militarized and function-first, and the Epyon is this bright, ridiculous, very silly suit, just like the rest of the Gundams. It has a two-headed dragon mode, for Pete's sake. (Who is Pete?) Still, it's a cool design.
The Good: This is a very solid final product. The wings have some auto-morph to them, all the accessories are very solid, the fact that you don't have to build the whip and it comes one a single runner is very cool, and the transformation is surprisingly good once you know how it works. Once it's built, it's super fun to pose and do stuff with. A great addition to a Wing shelf.
The Bad: Building this thing sucks. As an example, each individual leg is 40 pieces, each of which are attached to the runner at an average of three points, so you have to clean up 120 spots just to build one leg. The wings and accessories are the only big pieces. By the time I finished, I was so frustrated and tired that I just wanted to take my photos and not look at it again for a while.
The Details: Went very sparse on this one with just panel lining, and even then mostly just on the actively exposed parts, and not the frame underneath at the places where it gets exposed. I used the stickers it tells you to use as you're building it, but I was so tired that I didn't even put the metallic stickers on it when I finished.
Overall, take your time, have something fun planned alternatively for when you start getting riled, and only do as much as you want to do, and you'll end up with a nice kit. It's a pain to build, but the final figure is nice, and it's going to spend a lot more time like that then not built.

Gunpla Builds of 2023 Part 2 - The last few builds before I went on holidays
HG Michaelis
RG Wing Gundam (TV)
HG Gundam Aerial (waterslide decal remake)
HG Chuchu’s Demi Trainer
HG Gundam Aerial Rebuild
Not including the remake, I have built a total of 18 kits with 17 of them being 1/144 scale and only 1 1/100. And I’ve only started getting into this hobby since late April of this year!
Hopefully I can do more kits in the backlog next year. Maybe start my first MG that’s still in the backlog which is the 2.0 RX-78-2. I still need to finish the decals for Rebuild’s flight unit and then topcoat it.
I think the HG Pharact is next in line from the backlog for building since I have the decals for it, but I might first remake the Mirasoul Flight Unit with the official waterslide decals just so I don’t fully jump in to a new kit after 4-5 weeks of not building anything.
