kdrama review
weightlifting fairy kim bok joo
Tumblr media
if you're looking for a light hearted drama with its fair share of entertainment, kim bok joo is for you.
i. strong female lead - personally, i liked how bok joo is so strong, physically and mentally, but that never stopped her from needing or wanting joon hyung.
ii. unnecessary love triangle - honestly speaking, the drama was absolute perfection if it had not been for the idiotic love triangle. this love triangle between joon hyung, bok joo and jae yi was so ridiculous it made me cringe. but i liked how it was important for bok joo's realisation that she was a 'lady' too.
iii. the cutest friendships EVER - the trio of the three friends and joon hyung's cute bestfriend was the best part of the show. they managed to show friendship struggles perfectly balanced with the romancey parts.
iv. i loved how they showed that weightlifting being a taxing sport on one's feminity took a toll on bok joo and that she did recover from it, with her own time and struggles.
v. they could've done without the ex girlfriend and childhood crush trope, but the mother and adopted family plotline was pretty cute and well executed.
all in all, if u like cute boys, wholesome friendships, clueless girls and cute families, kim bok joo is for you!
(special mention for kang ki young for being his amazing adorable self as always. he's like the pankaj tripathi or raju srivastava of korean dramas - always there somehow)

Swamis and Scandals
Swami Paramhansa Nityanand: The founder of the Nityanand mission, which claims to have 1,000 branches across 33 countries, has been untraceable since certain Tamil TV channels recently aired a video which allegedly shows him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress. Nityanand, who has ashrams in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Puducherry, hails from Tamil Nadu and has a sprawling ashram in Bidadi, 30 km from Bangalore. He claims to lead a worldwide movement for meditation and peace. Lenin Karuppan, a former disciple, has said that he shot the video to expose the swami. Lenin has alleged that his life has been under threat from the swami, adding that he also suspected foul play behind the death of a woman inmate a year ago. In the complaint filed with Chennai City Police Commissioner T Rajendran, Lenin, who claimed to be an inmate of the ashram in Bangalore since 2006, said the swami used to lure young women devotees claiming that he was the reincarnation of Lord Krishna.
Anup Kumar Sahay: A self-proclaimed godman in Ghaziabad, he was booked on Sunday for abducting his cousin. According to a complaint filed by Subha Srivastava, mother of the victim, the accused along with his brother Ashok Kumar Sahay abducted her daughter Priyanka Srivastava on February 15. The self-proclaimed godman has been booked under sections 363, 313 and 366 of the IPC which pertain to kidnapping and forcing a woman to undergo abortion without her will.
Kripaluji Maharaj: Ram Kripal Tripathi aka Kripaluji Maharaj, at whose ashram near Pratapgarh in UP 63 people died in a stampede last week, was charged with kidnapping and rape in two cases in Nagpur in 1991. He was acquitted after the witnesses turned hostile. He was arrested in 2007 after a Guyanese woman in South Trinidad filed a rape case against him.
Sant Swami Bhimanand Ji Maharaj Chitrakoot Wale: Shiv Murti Dwivedi alias Sant Swami Bhimanand Ji Maharaj Chitrakoot Wale (39), a self-styled godman, was arrested by the Delhi Police last month on charges of operating a high-profile sex racket involving former airhostesses and students.
Asaram Bapu: Two minor boys of the Asaram Ashram-run gurukul in Ahmedabad were found dead in the Sabarmati riverbed two days after they mysteriously went missing from the gurukul in February 2008. The police booked Asaram Bapu in a criminal case pertaining to attempt to murder last year in December on the basis of a complaint filed by Raju Chandak, a former disciple of Asaram. Chandak was shot at by two persons on December 5 and he sustained injuries on his chest and shoulders. Chandak alleged that he was targeted at the behest of Asaram, as he had testified before the D K Trivedi Commission probing into the death of the two boys.
Jayendra Saraswati: The influential Kanchi math Shankaracharya was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police in Mehboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh in November 2004 in connection with the murder of a former accountant of the math.

Apart from a Rs 50 lakh fraud case that has a Dubai-based businesswoman as the complainant, Madhavan, who had turned himself into Swami Amritachaitanya presiding over a posh ashram and flaunting high connections in the state’s political circle and the bureaucracy, was also charged with raping a 15-year-old girl repeatedly.
Premananda: Also known as Trichy Sai Baba, he was awarded life imprisonment in 1994 for two terms on the charges of multiple criminal offences including rape and murder. Premananda, who reportedly had powerful supporters in the AIADMK, had not only raped many of the inmates of his ashram at Trichy but also carried out crude medical terminations of some of the consequent pregnancies with the help of a couple of associates. He was also charged with the murder of an engineer who had opposed the nefarious activities at the ashram.

As the name suggests - “silent heart attack” means no signs and signals for a heart attack to occur. This generally has a sudden onset without any prior warnings which can occur at any time of the day or night while being awake or in sleep.
Wondering about no signs of a heart attack? This can be quite dangerous. However, you can keep these sudden issues at bay by knowing the causative factors of the silent heart attack. Let's explore the causes of silent heart attacks in the next part of the article.
Causes of silent heart attack
We all know the major cause of heart attack is blockage of coronary arteries mainly due to atherosclerosis or myocardial infarction. There are higher chances of a heart attack in patients prone to diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol issues. However, contrary to this, a silent heart attack may occur in perfectly healthy individuals as well at times. This may be due to the following reasons:
Stressful event
Emotional event on hearing bad news
Being overactive physically like lifting heavy weights
Patients who suffer from silent heart attacks generally have no history of prior hypertension, diabetes, or cholesterol issues.
What happens during a silent heart attack?
During a silent heart attack, there is a sudden disruption of oxygen and blood flow to the heart. This causes damage to the heart muscles. There may be a high risk of heart failure at times if ignored. In medical terms, a silent heart attack may cause an infarct of a certain part of the cardiovascular system causing a sudden cut off to your blood and oxygen supply.
Symptoms of a silent heart attack
The symptoms of a silent heart attack are as follows-

“As you know, live standup comedy did not exist during my childhood. But I used to buy Johnny Lever Sahab’s cassettes and try performing his jokes in front of the mirror. Coincidently, our school was going through renovation at that time, so we were temporarily hosted in a nearby haveli for a while. The school would organise talent shows every once in a while, and I would enact a few Johnny Lever jokes in the haveli’s hall. It was fun, and an early introduction for me to performing in front of others. In college, I made a few friends who were very enthusiastic about dramatics. I would be the one who’d write the script and then we all would enact it. I think we were quite good. There was a time when we participated in a ‘Just a Minute’ competition and bagged the top 3 positions amongst us. That was my tryst with performing arts during my formative & college years, and I thought that I’d never be going back to it. You know, it used to be very difficult for a middle class guy to make a decent living out of it.
But I think my heart was still in comedy. I can vividly recall the times when I used to board a chartered bus to office. I would observe what everyone was doing in the bus and imagine how Raju Srivastava would describe it. He used to set-up the scene with very elaborate descriptions, before transforming it into a laughter riot. I used to enjoy his performances on ‘Great Indian Laughter Challenge’, but didn’t expect myself to be doing something similar in the future.
However, I was lucky that life gave me a second chance and a series of events led me to a serious career in stand-up comedy. I had started an HR consulting company in 2005 after noticing a few gaps in the recruitment industry. The company had grown to about 50 employees, and I was planning to expand it further to 200. I got so busy with work that I decided to hire a business coach who could help me learn how to optimise my time. The idea worked. I was now able to find more time for myself, and I thought “Should I dedicate this time to my long forgotten hobby of dramatics?”. Finding a group of people for dramatics again seemed difficult, but doing open mic performances seemed to be a feasible means to channel my creativity. I googled for open-mics in Delhi and found one that was going to happen that evening itself. Abish Mathew was opening and Papa CJ was doing the main act after a few open mic performances by budding comedians. When I watched the performers, I thought that it was easy and enrolled myself for the next one. But I was wrong. I was getting on stage after 13-14 years, so my hands were trembling. I was supposed to do 5 minutes, but I got off in 3. I made really poor jokes with bad delivery. There were a few forced laughs - just to encourage me, but there was no real laughter. While I bombed my first ever performance, the good part was that I had broken the ice. I kept going for more open-mics - I would do well in a few, and bomb a lot many. I even performed at stand-ups where other comics were the only audience. But it’s so alluring to be stage that you want to go back again and again, and get better each time. Also, I was making a new set of friends. For me, who was a 35 year old running his own company, it was fascinating to become friends with 19 year old college kids, bartenders and copywriters.
Stand-up comedy was still a hobby that I was enjoying, but my business was still my main area of focus. However, I slowly transitioned to a point where stand-up comedy became my main profession. I started maintaining a website and positioned myself as the person who does clean comedy. Clean comedy was a personal choice, but it also served as a great marketing tool for me to get corporate shows - which are a comedian’s bread and butter before he or she gets famous enough to have ticketed events or be on streaming platforms. In fact, my comedy is so clean that my acts have become a regular part of WhatApp family group forwards. But I’m happy with that. I want to create content that I can proudly perform in front of my wife & children or without bothering about a 10-year old kid or a 70-year old uncle who could be sitting in the audience.
I don’t think that I am one of the funniest guys around. Even today, when I watch other comedians, I start thinking, “This guy is so funny. Why would anyone watch me?”, or “I wish I could have stage presence like that guy”. However, I guess what worked for me was that I had my own unique voice that resonated with a certain section of people. I didn’t try to change my voice or content to pander to a certain set of people. In the last three years I have performed in many countries, without changing my language of performance or content in any.
Also, there are many people who are funnier than a lot of comedians that you see on stage. The difference is perseverance. Your ability to get back up after every failure on stage. You need to get there again and again, even if you had bombed for the last 50 times and try to improve your art each time.”
