As Aves de Rapina Salvaram Canário Negro do Fundo do Poço Há 25 Anos Atrás 

Em uma volta ao passado nos quadrinhos de 10/25/50/75 anos atrás, o Comics Should Be Good destaca a estreia das Aves de Rapina em Dezembro de 1995.

Hoje, voltamos a Dezembro de 1995 para a estreia das Aves de Rapina quando Canário Negro voltou do descarte. Canário Negro tinha um arco muito estranho como personagem no final dos anos 1980 e início dos 1990. 

Na aclamada minissérie, Os Caçadores, Mike Grell basicamente tem Dinah como uma donzela em apuros na história, sendo torturada a ponto de não poder mais ter um filho (isso foi mais tarde usado para explicar por que perdeu seu "Grito de Canário”, já que Mike Grell não estava interessado em superpoderes na série).

A sua tortura estava realmente lá apenas para levar Oliver Queen a matar os bandidos que a estavam torturando. No entanto, Os Caçadores lançou uma nova série do Arqueiro Verde e Dinah foi uma grande jogadora no acerto crítico e Mike Grell a usou muito melhor na série em andamento. 

Dinah provou ser TÃO popular que a DC decidiu apresentar seu próprio longa-metragem na Action Comics Weekly, de Sharon Wright, Randy DuBurke e Pablo Marcos. Sharon Wright era a ex-esposa de Mike Grell (e tinha escrito várias edições de Guerreiro durante a temporada de Mike Grell naquela série), então ela estava muito familiarizada com a visão de Mike Grell sobre Dinah.

Alguns anos depois, Sarah Bynam, Trevor Von Eeden e Dick Giordano deram a Canário Negro sua primeira minissérie solo, onde lidou com o trauma não resolvido de Os Caçadores e abraçou mais sua identidade secreta (no Arqueiro Verde de Mike Grell e até mesmo na maior parte das histórias da Action Comics, Dinah estava efetivamente sem traje, embora usasse frequentemente a peruca loira). 

Isso levou a uma série contínua de Canário Negro de Bynam e Von Eeden (com Bob Smith na série contínua) e Canário Negro oficialmente rompendo com Oliver nas páginas de Arqueiro Verde. 

Christopher Priest escreveu uma edição em que Dinah conheceu Ray, um personagem que Christopher Priest havia criado para a DC. Bem, a série de Canário Negro foi cancelada após 12 edições, então em 1994, estava basicamente sem trabalho. Depois de uma passagem como convidada na Força-Tarefa da Liga da Justiça, Dinah apareceu agora como convidada na série em andamento de Ray para um arco estendido onde os dois viajam através do tempo e do espaço juntos. 

Ao longo de tudo isso, Dinah reconhece que Ray tem uma grande paixão por ela. Quando sua aventura termina em Ray #11 (por Christopher Priest, Howard Porter e Robert Jones), Dinah inexplicavelmente decide dormir com o adolescente Ray...

Este foi definitivamente o fundo do poço para Dinah. Não tinha mais sua própria revista, não era uma personagem coadjuvante nas revistas do Arqueiro Verde e agora tinha dormido com um adolescente (Ray tinha pelo menos 18 anos, mas não acredito que tivesse 19 ainda). 

Dinah fez algumas outras aparições como convidada ao longo de 1995, mas Jordan B. Gorfinkel, que havia sido o editor-assistente da sua série em andamento, queria trazê-la de volta. A ideia dele era emparelhá-la com Barbara Gordon, que se tornou uma personagem coadjuvante popular na série de revistas do Batman sob sua nova identidade de Oráculo, a gênio da computação.

No entanto, Batgirl nunca teve sua própria série solo em andamento e Oráculo DEFINITIVAMENTE não teve sua própria série e Dinah estava saindo de séries canceladas e, sabe, dormindo com Ray. 

Portanto, a ideia de unir as duas foi difícil de vender, especialmente com um título tão simples quanto a ideia original de Jordan B. Gorfinkel, apenas Canário Negro/Oráculo. Então, os vários editores da DC se reuniram e tiveram ideias de como a série poderia ser chamada em cima de Canário Negro/Oráculo.

O nome da série, Aves de Rapina, é devido a dois indivíduos, de acordo com Jordan B. Gorfinkel, “Frank Pittarese, que surgiu com a inscrição vencedora no meu concurso de nomeação da série, e Mike Carlin, que sagazmente insistiu que não mudássemos para 'Hell's Belles' (outra história verdadeira).”

O conceito foi atribuído a Chuck Dixon e Aves de Rapina estreou em um One-shot em Dezembro de 1995, com arte de Gary Frank e John Dell. O conceito da edição é construído em torno de Dinah estar no fundo do poço, enquanto usa seus últimos vinte dólares para pegar um táxi para o aeroporto e aceitar uma tarefa paga pela misteriosa Oráculo...

Enquanto Dinah continua a missão, pergunta por que Oráculo a contratou para a tarefa, e Oráculo explica que estava procurando alguém que pudesse chutasse traseiros, mas alguém que também pudesse se encaixar perfeitamente em um mundo de glamour (como uma festa chique cheio de pessoas ricas) e alguém com boa aparência para virar algumas cabeças. 

Mas também, embora Oráculo não admita que essa possa ser a principal motivação, vê em Dinah alguém que foi chutado para o chão, muito parecido com a própria Barbara quando ficou paralisada por uma bala disparada pelo Coringa. 

Portanto, Oráculo quer fazer parte do processo de trazer Dinah de volta ao topo. Oráculo também desenhou um novo traje para Dinah, já que as meia-arrastão estão um pouco antiquadas, e o novo traje (presumo desenhado por Frank) estreia... 

O One-shot foi um sucesso e levou a outro One-shot e depois a um par de minisséries antes de Aves de Rapina receber sua própria série contínua que durou mais de cem edições e inspirou um filme de sucesso no início deste ano. Nada mal para uma personagem que havia chegado ao fundo do poço quando 1995 começou e ter mudado muito as coisas quando 1995 chegou ao fim!
