Think you know what rural America is like? Discover a plurality of perspectives in this enlightening anthology of stories that turns preconceptions on their head.
Gracie sees a chance of fitting in at her South Carolina private school, until a "white trash"-themed Halloween party has her steering clear of the rich kids. Samuel's Tejano family has both stood up to oppression and been a source of it, but now he's ready to own his true sexual identity. A Puerto Rican teen in Utah discovers that being a rodeo queen means embracing her heritage, not shedding it. . . .For most of America's history, rural people and culture have been casually mocked, stereotyped, and, in general, deeply misunderstood. Now an array of short stories, poetry, graphic short stories, and personal essays, along with anecdotes from the authors' real lives, dives deep into the complexity and diversity of rural America and the people who call it home. Fifteen extraordinary authors - diverse in ethnic background, sexual orientation, geographic location, and socioeconomic status - explore the challenges, beauty, and nuances of growing up in rural America. From a mountain town in New Mexico to the gorges of New York to the arctic tundra of Alaska, you'll find yourself visiting parts of this country you might not know existed - and meet characters whose lives might be surprisingly similar to your own.

hey! don’t know if you read much but if you do, i feel like you (and maybe even others reading this) might enjoy the rising sun series by david macinnis gill, a REALLY underated series (like seriously there’s zero fanfiction out there for it and it’s depressing) just a suggestion :)
thanks for the recommendation!

Uncanny, by David Macinnis Gill
This book is about Willow Jane Conning, who turns sixteen and discovers that she can stop and start time as she chooses. Through this skill, she defeats the evil witch, Shadowless, returning her to her grave. She also saves her friend, Harken, from getting killed. This book is pretty scary for young readers because there is a lot of blood and just straight-up nasty stuff that little kids would be very creeped out about. I recommend it for readers in their teens, because it is a page-turning book that’ll keep you up reading very late every single night.

Soul Enchilada by David Macinnis Gill
I read an excerpt of this book before it was published, a few years ago. I'd been looking forward to reading it for quite some time, but, in the end, it wasn't my favorite YA novel. It wasn't the worst, but I left it feeling vaguely apathetic. The story is original enough, but I didn't ultimately didn't feel a connection with any of the characters. Wish I had better things to say!
