Meeting the Headmistress.
Here it is, I wrote a fic featuring my OC’s that’s based on the Headmistress Rosehearts AU that @adrianasunderworld and @mangacupcake (sorry for the @’s just in case). The AU has held my intresest and given me these ideas as to how my OC’s would react hearing or interacting with Mother Rosehearts.
Enjoy!
Also OC bios will be added in at the end of the fic.
No response.
----------------------------------------------------------
“Excuse me.”
“Excuse me.”
A single ear flick but no response.
“Excuse me, young man!”
J.J. growled and opened his eye, peering down at the woman standing at the base of the tree who was looking up at him with folded arms and a tapping foot. Her short hair a shade of red that reminded J.J. of his dorm leader, she wore a dark red pants suit with a white undershirt. Her large silver eyes stared holes into the student.
“What.” Came the near snarl from the 4th year.
The woman looked offended. “How dare you speak to me in that tone.”
“How else am I gonna speak to you?” He snapped, red and black eyes glaring at her.
“In a proper and respectful tone,” She placed a hand over her chest in a way that mimicked Riddle. “Is the correct way to address your headmistress.”
“Headmistress?” A thin black eyebrow raised as J.J. moved away from the upper trunk his back was against. “You ain’t our headmaster.”
She smiled almost smugly. “I am now and you shall address me as Headmistress Rosehearts.”
‘Rosehearts... shit, she’s Riddle’s mother.’ J.J. nonverbally groaned and felt his body slump it’s way out of the tree, where he landed on his feet in front of her.
Rosehearts grimaced. “Must you be so uncouth?”
“Where’s Crowley?”
“Gone. The students here need to be properly taught and he wasn’t doing his job. Which is evident because you’re the only 4th year still on campus.”
“Evan came back, didn’t he? So why am I being singled out?”
“Because you’re the only one with a track record.”
J.J. snorted. “So you know me?”
“I read your file. You’ve caused quite a few problems, for the school and for my son.”
The fae opened his mouth but shut it, choosing instead not to say anything about Riddle’s overblot. “So, if that’s the case, why come to me?”
“I’m introducing myself to all the dorms here and you weren’t at the meeting Riddle called.”
J.J. shrugged. “Whoops.”
“Such flagrant disregard for the rules!” She screeched, causing J.J. to flinch from the sound. “How could your parents have raised a child such as yourself? Surely they must not know a thing about parenting.”
“Hey.” The 4th year glared. “My parents raised me just fine, thank you very much. And I don’t take kindly to someone insulting them.”
“It’s not an insult if it’s fact.”
J.J. felt something inside him snap and he let out a growl, smoke passing through his clenched teeth. “Listen here-”
“Mother.” Riddle has chosen at that time to appear. “Shouldn’t you be off to the other dorms?”
“I had to find this ruffian first and reprimand him for his rule breaking. Shouldn’t you have taught him better by now, Riddle?”
“I’m sorry, but he’s been... very adamantly against the rules. I’m teaching him to respect them more.” Riddle sent J.J. a look, eyes telling him to calm down before he sets anything on fire. “Go on and apologize to the Headmistress, J.J.”
J.J. crosses his arms in a huff and snarls out a “Sorry.”
Rosehearts seems to take it as she announces she’s leaving and makes her way to the Heartslabyul mirror. The pair watch as she departs before Riddle turns to J.J.
“J-”
“Don’t. Nothing you say could make what she said hurt any less.”  His eyes moved towards his dorm leader. “Then again... like mother, like son.” He turned on his heel and made his way into the dorm, completely ignoring Riddle’s attempts to call him back.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Heard the new Headmistress is causing problems for the dorm leaders.”
“I heard she forced Shroud to start attending classes without his tablet.”
Xavier listened to the various whispers around him as he looked through a selection of books at the library. He thumbed through a few of them before the whispers got too distracting and he left. Dusk had hit Sage Island as the 1st year began his trek back to the Scarbia dorm. Students passed by him, a few called his name which he gave a simple wave and a smile in return. Passing by Sam’s shop, a familiar voice called out to him.
“Yo Xav!”
Xavier stopped and turned, seeing someone sprint up towards him from the shop. His long navy hair was tied back in a loose ponytail and he wore the dorm uniform of Octavinelle. His mouth was stretched in a wide smile, showing up his rose of sharp teeth. His gray eyes were bright and happy as he slowly approached him.
“Hello, Rascal. Are you picking up stuff for the Lounge?”
“Nah, I just got off and I didn’t have time to change cause I forgot to pick something up from Sam’s.” Rascal waved a bag up before looping an arm around Xavier as best as he could. “Where ya coming back from?”
“The Library. I was studying but the whispers got too much for me.”
“Eh, I guess. Dude,” Rascal leaned forward. “The Headmistress is a total dictator though. All this stuff she’s making the ghosts and the teachers do, like yikes man.”
“Hmm.”
“I’d hate to have a mom like that for real. I mean my mom can get a little too much sometimes, but Rosehearts has to deal with that every time he comes home and stuff.”
“I don’t want to talk about this right now.” Xavier sighed. “I’d like to go an hour without thinking about this stuff.”
“Right, right, sorry.” Rascal leaned away from him and the two walked in silence for a bit before he spoke up again. “Hey, wanna come over and play some cards or play games or-”
“You two!”
The pair of them froze as a yell came from behind them, followed by the telltale sounds of heels clicking against the pavement. Both of them slowly turned to face Headmistress Rosehearts in all her fiery glory.
“Mr. Gallucci.” She spoke, hands on hips as she stared at Rascal.
“Y-yeah?”
“Why did I hear a report of you casting illusion spells on students to make them see giant spiders?”
“Just a prank.” Rascal laughed but stopped upon seeing Roseheart’s glare grow in intensity.
“I’ve come to confiscate what’s in the bag.”
“Uh, no.” Rascal put the bag behind him. “That’s my business and not yours.”
“How dare you!”
“Ma’am.” Xavier stepped in. “His brother asked him to pick up some medicine due to him not feeling good. If we’re late in delivering it-”
“And you are?”
“Huh?” Xavier blinked in confusion at being interrupted. “X-Xavier Soria.”
“Soria... Soria...” She frowned. “You’re the son of the Ruffians who live to the south of Queendom, aren’t you?”
“R-Ruffians? My parents aren’t anything of the sort, ma’am.”
“I beg to differ. That stuff they call ‘music’ is nothing more than attracting the bad side of the Queedom. The riff raff side.”
“My parents make wonderful sounding music, ma’am. They bring joy and happiness to the people who listen.”
“And poison their brains. They can spend their time being more productive.”
Xavier frowned and closed his purple eyes in an effort to calm himself down. He felt Rascal reach out and grab his hand.
“If that’s what you think of my family, Headmistress, then I am sad to hear that. Now if you’ll excuse me and Rascal, we’ll be on our way back to our dorms.” Xavier all but pulled Rascal away and made a fast track towards the hall of mirrors.
“Xav-”
“How dare she speak that way about my family.” He muttered. “They’ve done amazing things for the Queendom, donated to multiple charities, and did a non-profit concert to help those in need. And then she insults them, right to their son’s face.”
“Xavier, calm down.”
Xavier sighed and let go of Rascal’s hand, choosing instead to drag them through his light brown hair and fiddle with his braid. “I’m sorry, she just... had no right.”
“Want to come over? Or I’ll come over to your place, maybe we could hold our own mini concert?”
“I’d... I’d like that.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“She’s getting out of hand.” Rouge muttered to themselves as they watched Rosehearts reprimand a set of Savanaclaw students in the hallway. “Wish someone would just put her in her place already.”
They turned on their heel and quickly walked away before they could be spotted by the Headmistress. Alast they weren’t fast enough as they heard their name being called.
“Rouge Willow.”
“Damnit.” Their ears fell as they turned to face her. “Yes?”
“You and the other one attached to you-”
“Ruggie.”
“Yes, him. Are the pair of you not Kingscholar’s caretakers?”
“Caretaker is a strong word.” Rouge crossed their arms as their tail flicked behind them. “Why?”
“It seems he didn’t heed my warning about going to classes.”
“To be honest, miss, not even Ruggie and I can get him to do that on a good day.”
She made a sound of exaggeration. “I see. So it would seem I have to cancel any Spelldrive-”
“Woah, woah, cancel?” Rouge blinked. “All because Leona ain’t going to class? Ain’t that a little extreme?”
“One must be punished for not heeding when warned.”
“But one person?”
“Yes. This is how it works in the real world, Willow.”
“Yeah but don’t punish the whole pack for one bad hunter.”
She stared at them. “You and Bucchi said the exact same thing.”
“Cause we’re both right.”
“Sure, you are. I may refrain from shutting down the club if you and Bucchi get Kingscholar to his classes. Am I understood?”
“....Crystal.”
“Perfect, and one more thing. You and Bucchi get proper fitting uniforms.”
“This is all we could afford, Ruggie and I don’t come from a place of money, yea know.”
“NRC is a prestigious school, they don’t need people like you and Bucchi weighing it down.”
Rouge let out a faint growl and their ears fell sideways as they watched her walk away. “Yeah, she needs to go.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goliath adjusted the flowers in his vase while he hummed to himself. Next to him, sitting on the floor, was Night. The Diasomnia student, snapped photo after photo of the various flowers the pair of them had managed to find on this last hike the mountain lovers club had gone through. The pair had already bid a farewell to Jade as he had left earlier to attend to stuff at the Lounge.
“Goliath?” Night’s soft voice broke through the peaceful night in the botanical garden.
“Hmm?”
“What do you think of the new headmaster?”
“I have not spoken to her yet, but from what Rascal has told me, she is not good.”
“I’ve heard bad things too. But I can’t speak ill of her.”
“Mmmh.” Goliath put the finishing touches on his arrangement and snapped a picture of it. “Then don’t. I’ve heard she’s been catching students who talk bad about her and giving them detention.”
“Really?”
“Yes, I heard it from a few in my dorm.”
“I see...”
The pair began to pack everything up and headed to the hall of mirrors, quietly chatting to one another as they did.
“You two are certainly out late. I believe the curfew was an hour again.”
Speak of the devil and she shall appear. Rosehearts sood in front of them, blocking their path back home. Night shrank back, and fearfully glanced up at Goliath.
“Our apologies, Headmistress, we were busy finishing up some projects. It shall not happen again.”
“See that it doesn’t.” She paused and stared at him. “You wouldn’t happen to be the brother of one Rascal Gallucci, would you?”
“I am.” Goliath spoke firmly.
“Atleast your parents raised one of their sons correctly.”
Goliath gripped the vase in his hands and took a deep breath. “Our parents raised us to be ourselves, Headmistress.”
“Well your brother was raised wrongly it would seem.”
Goliath handed Night the vase before he could break it. “Forgive me for speaking up, but perhaps every parent is different in how they raise their children. Some raise theirs to be perfect while others raise their children to be happy.”
Her eyes narrowed, sensing the jab at her parental skills. “What was that, Mr. Gallucci?”
“Simply using an example, clearly not one that happens to be true after all.”
Night hid his smile behind the vase, knowing that Goliath was basically insulting Rosehearts to her face but in a more polite way.
“Get back to your dorms.” Was all she said as she stormed off past them.
“Goliath, that was mean.” Night teased and handed the vase back to him.
“And yet it was the truth. I can see why Rascal does not like her, insulting families left and right without a care in the world. I simply feel bad for Riddle now, to live with such an unpleasant mother.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Evan crossed his legs in the plush chair in the Pomefiore Lounge as he listened to the complaints of his fellow 4th year.
“And then Rosehearts, Riddle by the way, says he’s basically training me to follow the rules!” Evan ducked as J.J.’s tail lashed around. “And sevens! It made me so pissed, I could've transformed right there and bitten her head clean off!”
“Think of the mess that would’ve caused, my dear.”
“Yeah, but who would’ve missed her?”
“Riddle, the Queedom once they learned their prestigious doctor was murdered by a dragon fae.”
“Oh please, I’d probably be doing him a favor.”
“You’re saying that because you’re angry.”
J.J. growled. “And how are you so calm about this!?”
“Because I haven’t had a negative interaction with her yet.”
“Cause you haven’t run into the she-devil.”
“Oh I have, multiple times in fact. She seems to believe I'll help her whip the school into shape. How naïve of her.” Evan messed with his long white braid that hung over the side of his right shoulder. “I work for no one but myself.”
“There’s the manipulative asshole.” J.J. slumped down in the chair across from Evan and used his tail to point at him. “Can’t you and Schoenheit get rid of her? Or hell even Draconia or Kingshcolar? You guys got lawyers, they’re princes. Surely you can figure something out.”
“Regrettably, she hasn’t broken any major laws yet. She’s keeping everything above the books, not a single hair out of place.”
“So...” The fae leaned forward. “We just gotta make her do something illegal, right?”
“J.J., at the rate she’s going, I predict she’s bound to hit a lawsuit somewhere. I mean the worst she could do is shut off all communication we have with the outside world.”
“Ain’t that illegal?”
“For us? No. For the 2nd and 1st years? maybe, given they still need to be able to contact their guardians in case something goes wrong.” Evan smiled. “And my, have things gone wrong in our absence. Truly a shame, since it looks like the school won’t contact the guardians about the things happening here.”
“Damn, even out on tour, you never missed a beat, did you?”
“J.J., no one messes with my cute underclassmen and my darling without something happening to them in return.”

Parents’ Day
The day Crowley had announced that NRC would have a parents’ day, the students just knew nothing good would come of it. Yet the day had arrived and everyone was waiting in the mirror chamber for their parents to arrive to show them around.
J.J.
J.J. sighed as the parents started coming in through the mirror, this would be his parents’ third year visiting NRC and he hoped they would just skip this year. But that flew out of the window as he watched a large man with black hair and horns and a small woman with blue hair and curled smaller horns step through the mirror. The woman looked around before spotting her son leaning against one of the pillars in the room.
“J.J.!” She yelled, waving her hand with a smile on her face, red eyes shining in excitement.
Amber Tulgey was a small woman, but anyone who knew her long enough knew that really lied under the surface. She was wearing a large red shirt with long sleeves that went over her hands and a pair of white pants and black boots. Her pointed ears each had a set of 3 piercings in them. Her silver horns stood out greatly against her blue hair.
“Hey, Mom. Hey, Pops.”
The large man behind Amber, Colt Tulgey, easily towered over his son. The Brewer had muscles for days and his short black hair was slicked back. The man reeked of sandalwood, beer, and leather. His short sleeved white shirt was almost straining against his muscles, he had a chain connected to his black pants. His dark gray horns blended in perfectly to his black hair. His black eyes stared down at his son.
“Last year at NRC, huh?” Colt’s voice was deep as he spoke.
“Yep.” J.J. got off of the pillar. “Don’t know why you came given you’ve been here before.”
“It’s your last year and we wanted to see how you were doing. You hardly call.” Amber pouted.
“Sorry.” J.J. rubbed the back of his head. “Things have been kinda... interesting around here.”
“Interesting how?”
“Just interesting.”
Amber frowned but didn’t press the issue. “So how’s school?”
“It’s been boring.” J.J. lead his parents out of the mirror room along with several others whose parents had already arrived.
“How’s the dorm?” His father asked.
“Strict as usual.” J.J. glanced over to Riddle as he talked with his mother. “We should steer clear of the dorm head for now. I don’t wanna get into it with his mother.”
Goliath and Rascal
Rascal rocked back and forth on his heels as he waited for his parents, he knew they had to come farther inland to reach the portal with the help of the same potion that allowed him and Goliath to stay on land. Goliath stood next to him, arms crossed and eyes focused on the mirror. Eventually, a man and woman stepped through the mirror. The man’s blue hair was tied back in a manbun and a few strands of hair were in front of his face. The woman, by stark contrast, was roughly a head or two taller than the man. Her platinum hair was long, wavy, and flowed freely down her back.
“Oh there they are!” The woman spoke as she pointed at the brothers, smiling with rows of sharp teeth. “Boys!”
Gloria Gallucci was a tall woman, her whale shark genes had followed her into her human form. Freckles decorated her face in small batches while her red eyes showed nothing but her gentle nature. She wore a beautiful floor length satin dark blue dress and black heels. She also wore a pearl necklace and earrings.
“Hey, ma.”
“Hello, Mother.”
Ike Gallucci was a built man, courtesy of his great white genes with a nasty scar going down his cheek and disappearing under the collar of his buttoned shirt. The man wore a black pinstripe suit and a pair of nice dress shoes. For running a shipping company, Ike was well versed in human fashion. He adjusted his cufflinks before joining his wife.
“Hello, boys.”
“S’up, old man.”
“Father.”
Ike sighed. “Rascal, I told you about calling me that. I’m your father.”
“Sorry dad.” Rascal said, cheekily.
Their mother pulled them both in for a hug, nearly crushing her boys.
“How are my sons?”
“Doin’ great, Ma.” Rascal wheezed out.
“Honey, we need our sons alive.” Ike spoke with a chuckle as he watched both of his sons struggle to get out of Gloria’s hold.
“Sorry, sorry.” She let them go and smiled. “I haven’t seen you boys in a long time.”
Goliath cleared his throat and fixed his uniform while Rascal tried to blink his eyesight back to normal.
“Let’s show you around or perhaps Rascal should do that.”
“I don’t know this place as well as you do!”
Evan
“Evan darling!”
“Hello, Mother. Hello, Mom.”
Indigo and Willow Montgomery were a married Beastman and Fae duo fashion designers hailing from Port Jubilee. Indigo was a Jaguar beastman, her wavy black hair was loose with a few decorative hair pins pushing back the loose strands that would move into her face. She wore a fancy knee length, shoulderless, red dress with dark red heels. Indigo also stood a few feet taller than her wife.
Willow was a dark skinned butterfly fairy; her very long mauve hair flowed freely behind and was almost hovering behind her. There were a number of different colors and species of butterflies surrounding her hair. She had a number of watercolor tattoos decorating her arms and up her neck. She wore a very baggy white sweater with part of it hanging off her shoulder and a pair of ripped black pants along with a pair of black heels.
Willow ran up to Evan and pulled him in for a big hug. “Hi honey!” She kissed his cheek and smiled. “How have you been?”
“I’ve been good.” Evan returned the smile and the hug. “How has work been?”
“It’s been wonderful. Indigo made a new line and you have to model it for us.”
“I’d be more than happy to.”
“I will admit, I am surprised to see you back at NRC.” Indigo spoke. “You are your boyfriend-”
“Ex-boyfriend, Mother.”
Indigo gave a smile and Evan wondered what she knew that he didn’t. “Whatever you say, Darling. You and your EX-boyfriend seem to be the only 4th years on campus. Is there a reason you came back?”
“My tour ended and I missed NRC. All the classes I’ve had finished up,  I’ve had quite a bit of free time to think and plan what I wish to continue with.” Evan only half lied.
Indigo stared hard at her son, ears flicking in the process as if she was thinking about something. “Come. Let’s explore the campus for the final time.” She turned on her heel and began to walk out of the mirror chamber.
“Yes, Mother.”
“Coming!”
Xavier
“Lad!”
“Hey dad.”
Jax Soria was a tone man decked out head to toe in leather, jacket and pants wise. His orange hair was messy and unkempt with a few black hair clips in it to keep the worse of it out of his face.  He wore various chain necklaces that varied in length, some of them went over the deep v-neck yellow shirt he wore. Jax had a few knuckle tattoos decorating his hands as well. Jax pulled Xavier into a bear hug and ruffled his hair.
“Where’s Pa?”
“Right here.”
Jax and Xavier watched as a lithe man stepped through the portal. Javier Soria was dressed in a white button down shirt and a dark green vest with a pair of equally dark green pants. A chain connected from his pants to his wallet in his back pocket. His violet hair was tied back in a high ponytail. Javier also wore a set of vintage black oval glasses.
Xavier pulled himself free and went over to hug his other father, who returned the hug with a smile.
“Good to see you again, Xav.”
“Could Lukas not make it?”
“No, he’s busy with other things.”
“Babe.” Javier and Xavier looked over to where Jax was pointing out of the room. “Let’s go see how much NRC has changed since we’ve been here. Xav, lead the way and tell us about everything!” Jax all but rushed out of the room, leaving his husband and son in the dust.
“Dad, wait!”
“Jax!”
Rouge
Most of the students in the chamber had already left leaving just a handful of students waiting for their parents or parents adjacent. Rouge sighed and leaned back against one of the pillar;  their boyfriend, Ruggie, had already left with his grandma a while ago and left the fennec fox beastman to wait it out for their uncle.
“Sorry I’m late.”
Miles Willow was a tall and lanky fennec fox beastman. His short tan colored hair blended in perfectly to his tan colored ears. He was slouched over, hiding his true height in the process. He wore a checkered gray button up that was open with a black shirt underneath and burnt holes on his dusty looking jeans. Rouge stared at their uncle with an unimpressed look. Miles raises his arms in defense.
“Hey, I showed up this year-”
“Only because Crowley said there would be free food.”
“C’mon now, you think so little of your dear ol’ uncle.”
“You’re right-”
“Thank-”
“You put on a clean shirt this time.”
“You are by far the sassy kid I have ever raised.”
“I’m the only one you ever raised.”
Miles rolled his eyes and the pair left the chamber. “How’s school?”
“Just great.”
“Did you finally ask that, who was it, the hyena out?”
“Ruggie? Yeah.”
“Proud of ya.”
“Thanks.”
Night
“Night, it’s wonderful to see you again.”
“Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad.”
Night shyly waved his hand at his parents as they approached him. Daisy and Quincy Alexander were simple human farmers, having raised Night when they had found him in their field one night. Daisy was muscular and wore a green tank top with her red flannel shirt tied around her waist, her torn jeans were tucked into her boots. She had a strawhat on top of her short green hair  Quincy was built as well and wore a pair of oil stained overalls and a yellow and white shirt on. His lavender hair was messy and unkempt with bits of straw in them.
“Permission to hug you, Squash?” His mother opened her arms and waited patiently for an answer.
“Permission granted.” Night opened his arms and his mother went to hug him and spin him around.
“How ‘ave things been?” Quincy asked as Daisy set Night down.
“It’s been good, school is going great. This year has just been a bit more hectic than most.”
“Oh, what happened?”
“Just a lot of stuff. You know how NRC is.”
“So.” Daisy tilted her head. “Things haven’t been quiet?”
“It’s never quiet here, but anyway. I want to show you around the botanical garden, I’ve been gardening as of late.”

Holiday Get-Together
Fem!Yuu ahead. Happy holidays!
Word count: 2.7k
Bzzt!
Bzzt!
Bzzt!
Goliath placed his finger between the pages of his book and picked up his phone from the lounge table. Beside him, Azul set him a glance out of the corner of his eyes before returning to his own book. Goliath opened his phone and stared at the texts his brother had sent.
>Help
>Need help
>Need help in kitchen now!
With a mental sigh, Goliath placed a bookmark in his book, placed it on the table, and departed for the dorm’s kitchen. Nearing the room had him pausing as he smelt the scent of something burning. Upon entering the room, Goliath stared at his brother, who stood sheepishly holding a pan of something that was absolutely trashed.
“You and I both know you can’t cook so what were you hoping to achieve?”
“I was gonna make something for Yuu and take it over to her.” Rascal placed the dish on the counter and sighed. “It’s baked mac and cheese, it’s a simple thing to make but I botched it.”
“I can see that.”
“Thanks bro.” Rascal rolled his eyes. “Can I have some help?”
“Sure.”
They worked together to read the recipe and follow it, by the time they finished, Azul and the Leech twins had entered the room.
“Care to explain why the dorm smells like something is burning?” Azul asked, staring at the Gallucci brothers.
“The scent brought Floyd and myself out of our room.” Jade said.
“Yeah, it woke me up.” Floyd grumply commented as he gave a tired glare towards Rascal. “So what’s the big deal, Aozame-chan?”
Rascal rubbed the back of his head. “I tried cooking, but it didn't work out so well.”
“He wanted to give Yuu food and take it over to her.”
“Forgive me for asking, but didn't Crowley already give her food?” Jade askes.
“Yeah he did, but like.” Rascal huffed. “I wanna do something nice for her. This winter has been pretty shit for her.” He raised a finger. “Gets kidnapped by Jamil.” he raised another one. “Came to us for help and it’s not like you did it out of the kindness of your heart, let’s be real here.” Another one raised. “Overblot Jamil happened.” and he ended it with another finger raised. “And just the whole shit with Crowley.”
Azul stared at him with an almost disappointed look in his eyes. “I am going to ignore that comment, but perhaps you have a point.” He put on his best smile and clasped his hands together. “Then we should all make something for her.”
Rascal blinked. “Out of the goodness of your heart, right?”
“Yes, Rascal, do not worry. It’s the holiday spirit in me.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Then we should make sugar cookies for Shrimpy!” Floyd pulled on his twin’s arm. “C’mon Jade!”
Jade chuckled and followed Floyd while Azul seemed to ponder what he would make. Goliath made his way over to the fridge.
“Whatcha making?”
“Eggnog.”
“Do you need-”
“Nope, not your help at least.”
“Ouch, way to wound your little brother, but I get it.” Rascal shrugged. “I gotta make a call anyway.”
Rascal left the kitchen, leaving the upperclassmen to make their own food for Yuu. He pulled out his phone and opened his contacts, tapping on the name at the top. The phone rang for a few seconds before being picked up.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Xav. I wanted to know if you wanted to come with me over to Ramshackle to hang out with Yuu.”
“I don’t think she would want to see me.”
“Dude, why not? Not like she hates you for something you didn’t do. You’re one of the reasons she got out, after all.”
“But I still kept her there.”
“Xavier, c’mon. You can’t keep moping about that. The only way you’ll get past this is if you ask her yourself.”
“...you’re right... fine, I’ll come over.”
“Good!”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yuu paused in putting up lights on the tree the ghosts had found in the attic as a knock sounded at the door. Climbing down from the ladder, she placed the box of lights on the step and made her way over to the door. She opened it and received a faceful of chest from an excited eel.
“Shrimpy!”
Yuu staggered back and wrapped her arms around Floyd. “Hey Floyd.”
“Good evening, miss Yuu.” Came Jade’s voice.
Yuu pried her face out of Floyd’s chest and looked at the mermen and Xavier in the doorway. Each of them holding some dish apart from the Scarbian student and Goliath.
“What’s all this about?”
“I wanted to come by and see how you were doing. We also brought some food, in case Grim ate all of the food Crowley gave you.” Rascal gave a smile.
“Oh that’s perfect. Grim ate like ninety percent of what the bird brain gave us.”
“Where is Grim?” Goliath asked.
Yuu jerked her head towards the foyer and the group could see the passed out feline on one of the chairs. He had bits of meat around his muzzle and crumbs on his paws.
“Have you eaten anything?” Azul asked, eyes still on Grim.
“I snagged some turkey, ham and a few sides, but Grim got just about everything else.” She pulled away from Floyd. “Is that what you guys have there?”
“Yep.”
“Nice, c’mon in then.”
The group walked in, happy to be free of the cold. Xavier hung back while the others placed the dishes on the kitchen table. Yuu glanced over at him and raised an eyebrow.
“Something wrong?”
“Do...Maybe...” He shook his head. “Nevermind.”
“Xavier, what is it?”
“I...” His eyes flickered off to the side and seemed to make eye contact with someone behind her. He sighed. “Are you mad at me? Like for what I did back in Scarabia?”
“What? No.”
“But-”
“Xavier, you helped get us out. You had no idea what Jamil was planning so how could I be mad at you?”
“Do you hate Jamil?”
Yuu smiled, but it wasn’t a nice one. “Him and I are gonna have a talk later. Maybe after he recovers fully.”
“G-got it.”
Yuu ruffled Xavier’s hair. “You’re so sweet, you know that?”
“I’ve been told that before.”
“Aw, no wonder Rascal-”
“HEY!” Rascal interrupted and looped an arm around Xavier’s shoulder. “Let’s go eat!”
Yuu smiled a teasing smile and departed for the kitchen. “You guys can eat at the table in the foyer since the table in the kitchen is too small.”
Yuu grabbed her food and sat down in the foyer next to Goliath, Floyd immediately sat next to her and tried to pick off her plate. She slapped his hand and messed with his hair with a smile on her face. Once everyone had gotten food and sat down, they began making small talk with others.
“So, who made the mac?”
“I did!”
Yuu looked over at Goliath. “So you really made it.”
Rascal pointed and folded his arms. “Rude.”
“Yes, but it was a team effort.”
“Which attempt was this?”
“Don’t answer that!”
Goliath tried holding back his smile but ultimately couldn’t as he hid it behind his hand. “Second.”
“Goliath!”
Yuu let out a laugh while Rascal sank down in his chair with a huff. Xavier chuckled and patted Rascal’s back. Floyd poked Yuu’s cheek to get her attention.
“Neh, Shrimpy. Why you got a tree up?”
“It’s a christmas tree. Do they have Christmas underwater?”
“Yeah, but we don’t put a tree in our place.”
“So is this all new to you?”
“It’s new to me.” Rascal said, turning to look at the large tree. “Does it symbolize anything?”
“Back in my world, a Christmas tree meant a number of things. Sometimes it was just a tree, other times it symbolized something. But where I’m from it’s just something to put presents under.”
“Did your family use to do anything special for the holidays?” Jade asked.
“Eh.. when I was younger, I would go out pecan hunting with my mom for homemade pecan pie. Then I got older and we eventually stopped, but we still made the pies.” Yuu smiled faintly, it was sad as she remembered her family. “It was a nice moment.”
“Sounds like a wonderful memory.”
“Do you have any others?”
“One time, when I was younger, I thought santa-”
“Santa?” Floyd perked up. “Whose that?”
Yuu blinked. “Have you never heard of Santa?”
The mermen shook their heads while Xavier nodded.
“Well Santa brings presents every year on christmas eve to good children all over the world. He does it all in a single night, don’t ask me how, he’s magical. He also lives in the North Pole.”
“I thought you didn’t have magical beings in your world.” Azul spoke up.
“I guess Santa is a special case.” Yuu shrugged and continued. “So he used his nine reindeer to fly-”
“How?”
“Again, magical. So nine reindeer pull the big red sleigh across the world effortlessly every year.”
“Does Santa make the presents?” Rascal had seemingly abandoned his food in favor of focusing more on the story.
“No, he has elves. Tens of thousands of them working tirelessly on the presents.”
“For free?” Azul asks.
“Yeah-well.” Yuu tilted her head. “I mean there are multiple versions of Santa’s story out there. Some say he pays the elves in candy canes, others say they have an entire town built there and the elves are paid in actual money, but none of them seem to say the same thing about Santa’s elves.”
Jade spoke up next. “You said that this Santa delivers gifts to children at night. How?”
“He magically basically breaks into the house and leaves the gifts, sometimes drinks the milk and cookies the kids left out for him before dipping.” Yuu bit causally into one of the sugar cookies. “As bad as it sounds, he does it all out of the goodness of his heart and because he’s full of Christmas joy.”
“So he does this all and gets nothing in return.” Azul hummed. “Seems like bad business practice.”
“Santa doesn’t need money, he’s powered by the beliefs of children and christmas.”
“Wait.” Floyd chimed in. “You said good kids. What do the bad kids get?”
“Coal.”
“Does he know what all the kids want?”
“Yep, but kids end up sending in letters telling him what they want, but Santa already knows what you want for christmas.” Yuu finished off the rest of her food. “Santa is a tale parents tell to their kids to make them behave for a year.”
“A tale? So he’s not real?”
“He is if you believe he is. Santa is a belief magic. if you don’t believe in him then, how can you see him?” Yuu ended it off there and finished the rest of her food.
The tale of Santa seemed to marinate in the mermen’s heads and they grew quiet, no doubt pondering more about the tale. Rascal immediately turned to Xavier and started bugging him for more tales, which Xavier was more than happy to talk about to the excited shark mer. Eventually the rest of the food was consumed, the group moved on to drinking the eggnog Goliath made and settled down on the raggedy couches in front of the older tv.
“I was gonna finish decorating the tree.” Yuu said as she swirled the glass of nog. “But I can’t reach the high parts of the tree. Does one of the three taller upperclassmen wanna help me?” She batted her eyelashes at them.
“What do I get out of it?” Floyd asks, sending her a teasing smile.
“My undying love and affection.” She sent back the teasing smile.
“You drive a hard bargain, Shrimpy.” Floyd pulled her in for a bone crushing hug and left the couch to deal with the remainder of the lights.
“Does the TV work?” Rascal entered the room with another glass of eggnog.
“Yeah, surprisingly. You can put it on a cheesy Christmas movie or something.”
“You have those too?”
“All throughout the year.”
They passed the time watching old movies and swapping between decorating the tree. Eventually night approached as snowflakes fell to the ground outside. Rascal and Xavier were the first to fall asleep, the pair of them passed out on the floor near the tree next to one another.  Azul and Jade were next, both of them having fallen asleep on opposite ends of the couch. Floyd fell asleep, arms wrapped around Yuu and his head on top of hers. Yuu and Goliath stayed up, finishing the last movie before turning off the TV.
“Where are the blankets and pillows?” Goliath whispered.
“On the door to the right.” Yuu whispered back as she gently moved Floyd’s head off of hers and onto her shoulder.
Goliath quietly got up and followed her directions, pulling out the needed blankets and pillows. He set them out, placing pillows under Rascal and Xavier’s heads and blanket over their bodies. He placed one over Azul and Jade and handed one to Yuu, who gently placed it over herself and Floyd. Goliath placed a pillow on the floor and rested on the floor.
“You can take one of the rooms, I managed to clean some of the bedrooms.”
“No, I’m fine here. Thank you, though.” Goliath settled down and eventually fell asleep.
Yuu looked around the room, taking in the group before smiling softly and looking out the window.
“If you do exist here, I’d like to make a wish. I want to be able to see my family again.” With that, Yuu cuddled up to Floyd and fell asleep.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Holy shit!”
The sound of Rascal shouting caused everyone to jolt awake..
“Aozama-chan.” Floyd growled.
“Sorry, sorry, but look!”
They turned their heads and froze upon seeing the multitude of gifts under the tree.
“When did-”
“Santa is real!”
Rascal pulled some gifts out from under the tree. “There’s one for me and Goliath and-”
Floyd basically flew off the couch and nearly dove into the gifts. Xavier pulled out one of the gifts labeled for him, opened it, and froze.
“Wait, this is the keyboard I wanted. I didn’t even tell my parents about this, how did..”
“Yooo!” Rascal pulled out a large alchemy set along with a book of pranks. “It’s just what I wanted!”
Goliath pulled one of his gifts and opened it. Inside was an extensive book for flowers and multiple packages of flower seeds. “I never verbally said I wanted this book...”
Azul opened his, inside was a number of journals. Jade’s was a set of new terrariums and an encyclopedia of mushrooms. Floyd’s was a new set of sneakers and a jacket, which he immediately put on. There was even a present for Grim in the pile of premium tuna cans stashed in the corner.
“Shrimpy! There’s one for you too!” Floyd tossed the box over to her.
She easily caught it and opened the small box, pausing as she stared at the locket in the box. A decent sized gold circular locket surrounded by shades of turquoise rhinestone. It felt hefty in Yuu’s hand as she pulled it free of the box.
“A necklace?” Jade looked over her shoulder. “Did you ask for something so simple?”
“No...” Yuu opened it and froze, seeing a picture of her family inside of the locket.
On the other side of the locket read “Do not give up hope.” Tears welled up in Yuu’s eyes as she stared at the picture. Unaware to her, the others had joined her side, each of them staring down at the photo.
“Is that your family?”
“Yeah... I wished to see them again and I guess in a way I did.” Yuu pressed the locket close to her chest.
“Aw Shrimpy.” Floyd pulled her in for a rather gentle hug. “You’ll see them again.”
“Indeed you shall.” Azul added in.“Mmh.” Yuu pressed her head against Floyd’s shoulder. “You’re right. I just gotta keep wishing.” She pulled back. “Anyway! What did y’all get for Christmas?”
They began to chat over the presents until Grim groggily woke up complaining about the noise they were making. It was a Christmas Yuu would not easily forget.

Keep going.
Basically a What-If to Azul’s overblot fight, where in the end, Goliath dies.
This is just a what-if and is not canon. I couldn’t tear the Gallucci brothers apart like that. I love them too much. There is also gonna be a Bonus at the end, but it will be nothing but pain.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rascal watched as the phantom behind Azul slammed its tentacle into Goliath and sent him flying into one of the structures nearby. Goliath fell to the ground with a heavy thud and laid there. Fearing the worst, Rascal rushed to his brother’s aid while he dodged the numerous blasts Azul sent out.
“Goliath!” Rascal bent down next to his brother. “Are you okay?”
The third year struggled to get up and ended up leaning against the broken stone column. Blood leaked from his mouth and he seemed to be struggling to breathe.
“I-I’m fine.” Goliath clutched his side. “Go and deal with Azul.”
“But-”
“He’s almost down, he just needs a few more blows.”
“You need help first!”
“And I’ll get help later. Now go.”
“...”
“Rascal.” The first year looked at Goliath, who sent him a shaky smile. “I’ll be here when you get back. Now go knock some sense into our dorm leader.”
Rascal debated it, his eyes flicked from his brother back to the fight happening behind them. Reluctantly, he stepped back and sent his brother one last look before returning to the fight. True to Goliath’s words, Azul went down after a few combined hits from the group. While everyone collapsed on the ground from the grueling fight, Rascal returned back to where Goliath was slumped against the column.
“Goliath! We-” Rascal paused and slowed to a stop as he stared at the still form of his brother. “G-Goliath?”
Slowly the shark mer approached him, heart sinking when he smelt the amount of blood coming from the other mer. Time seemed to freeze for Rascal as he slowly sank to the ground, completely unaware of the others' attention suddenly shifting over to him. The absolute heartbreaking wail the young mer let out echoed throughout the dorm.
His brother was gone.
The news of Goliath’s death shook NRC, an overblot had claimed a life. While Azul rested back in his dorm room and was unaware of what his overblotting had caused, Rascal grieved the loss of his brother. A week had passed before Rascal returned to NRC, emotionally broken and closed off to everything around him. He quietly entered Octavinelle’s dorm and shuffled his way towards the third year side of the dorm. Rascal paused as he saw the number of flowers outside Goliath’s door. He wordlessly stepped over them and hesitantly entered the room.
The lights were off and the source of light was from the glowing ocean outside of the window. Everything seemed to be frozen in time. An alchemy textbook lay open on the desk, a homework sheet right next to it with some of the questions already answered. A vase of flowers sat at the edge of the desk, perfectly maintained in the confined space. A few of Goliath’s flower arrangement tools were out of their container and on the desk. His closet door was closed and the shoes on the rack next to it were untouched, only missing the dorm outfit issued shoes. The door to the personal bathroom was also closed. The bed sat undisturbed with the sheets and covers perfectly made up as if it was waiting for its owner’s return.
Rascal dropped his bag on the floor, threw off his shoes, and fell face first into the sheets. He lay there silently before his body started to shake with unshed tears. The shark mer sobbed loudly into the bed, wishing for its former owner to comfort him but ultimately knowing he would never come back.
Rascal had not seen Azul since he recovered, choosing to avoid his dorm leader less he tear out his throat with his teeth. The first year was currently sitting in the room, staring mindlessly at the wilting flowers when a knock at the door came. Slowly, he got up and opened the door. Jade was standing there, quiet and calm as he stared down at Rascal.
“What?”
“Azul wishes to speak to you.”
“Tell him to burn in hell.”
“You can not avoid him forever.”
“It’s for his own safety that we never talk again.”
Jade sighed. “Rascal, Goliath would-”
“Do not.” Rascal snarled, showing off his serrated teeth. “Speak as if you know what my brother would do.”
Jade continued with a mild glare at being interrupted. “He would want you to hear Azul out. Goliath wouldn’t want you to become a husk of your former self.”
They both stared each other down, neither of them giving in until Rascal opened his mouth.
“No and that’s final.” He closed the door, locked it, and turned to moping on the bed.
Rascal listened to Jade’s departure before closing his eyes and falling asleep.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rascal’s consciousness came back to him as he heard the sound of the door opening and closing. He thought he had locked the door before passing out. Gray eyes slowly blinked open and squinted as the light was turned on.
“Really? Falling asleep in my bed again?”
Rascal’s eyes widened and he sat up quickly. Goliath was standing in the middle of the room with his arms crossed. He shook his head with a chuckle and sat down next to Rascal.
“G-Goliath?”
“Yes?”
Rascal’s eyes welled up in tears and he basically tackled his brother, sending them both off the bed in the process.
“Y-You’re alive! I missed you!”
“Hey.” Goliath smiled softly and ruffled Rascal’s hair.
Rascal sniffed and buried his face in his brother’s shirt. “I’m..I’m a bad brother.”
“Because you slept in my bed?”
“Because I didn’t save you! I couldn’t do anything and you died!” Rascal started sobbing. “And now everything is duller and darker and-and-” He hiccupped and rubbed his eyes. “I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough...”
“Hey.” Rascal slowly raised his head to look at Goliath. “It was my choice. You’re my little brother and if I have to give my life to protect you, then I will.”
“But-”
“No buts.” Goliath gave a soft smile. “Now it’s time you woke up.”
“N-no. I don’t want to go back without you!”
“You have to. You have to keep going for me, Rascal.”
No!” Rascal clutched at his brother’s shirt. “I can’t go back! Let me stay here!”
“Keep going. Keep growing. Even if I’m no longer there physically, I’ll still be with you.”
“Go-”
“-liath!” Rascal woke up with a cry and a hand extending out towards the ceiling.
He sat up and quickly looked around, hoping to find his brother, only to be met with the coldness of the room. Rascal buried his face in his knees and let out a large mournful cry.
“Rascal?”
The weather was getting colder, a sign that winter break was soon approaching. Rascal sat on one of the benches in the courtyard, head tilted back and staring mindlessly up at the sky. His eyes slowly moved over whoever had called his name. Night stood close by while he wrung his hands, he seemed nervous.
“What?”
“Would you mind coming with me? I need to show you something.”
“Is it important?”
“Yes.”
With a sign, Rascal heaved himself off of the bench and followed Night. The fae led him in the direction of the Botanical Gardens. He opened the door and let Rascal enter first before joining him. Night led the mer further into the structure and stopped somewhere in the Temperate Zone.
“Why are we...” Rascal trailed off as he spotted a gravestone near groups upon groups of multicolored flowers.
They framed the tombstone beautifully with their arrays of colors that Rascal had noticed that they were the same flowers his brother had cultivated and bloomed himself. The mer’s throat started to tighten as he read the gravestone heading.
Goliath Gallucci
XX, XX, XXXX - XX, XX, XXXX
Beloved friend, mentor, and brother.
Gone but not forgotten.
“Me and a few of the third years that knew Goliath made this to remember him by. We, um,” Night sniffed and rubbed his eyes. “We wanted some place where we could honor him. And we all figured this would be a good place since he spent so much time here. I figured you'd want to know about this. I would’ve told you sooner, but you were holded up in his room and weren’t coming out.”
“...”
“Rascal.”
He turned to face the fae.
“I miss him too.” Night’s eyes wield up with tears. “Not a day goes by where I don’t wish he was still with us. He was my best friend.”
Rascal let out a small sob as Night wrapped his arms around him and brought him in for a big hug.
“Thank you... Thank you so much.”
They stayed like that for a few minutes before they settled down on the grass and started trading stories of Goliath. In Rascal’s mind, he could hear his brother’s words from that dream.
“Keep going. Keep growing.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BONUS:
Rascal waved goodbye to Night before entering the Octavinelle mirror. He paused on the walkway as he spotted Azul standing outside of Mostro Lounge, seemingly staring off into space. Rascal quickly walked past him, hoping not to get noticed by the dorm leader.
“Rascal.” Azul’s voice made the first year freeze. “May I have a moment?”
Slumping his shoulders, he slowly turned to face the octopus mer.
“What?”
Azul frowned at the way he had answered him, but soon brushed it off. “I’ve been meaning to speak to you, but you’ve been avoiding me.”
Rascal narrowed his eyes. “I’m pretty sure you can already guess why.”
“There’s no amount of apologies I can give that could ever amount to what my actions have done. I took someone who was precious to you away and for that... I am sorry. My overblot blinded me and I grew angry because-”
“Because you couldn’t have your way.”
Azul flinched at that but Rascal couldn’t care less.
“He even told you this would not end in your favor. You were up against someone who dealt with  Leona’s plot against Malleus and handled Riddle’s hissy fit. But you? You’re so greedy that you thought you could tear a decaying building out of the hands of someone who has little to nothing in their name. Yuu fired back with a plot you didn’t see coming, that you didn’t predict would happen and what happened in the end?
The octopus has his own fit, starts taking magic from people, and overblots in the process. And everything goes wrong. My brother’s dead, the school’s under fire, your precious restaurant is probably on the way out, and you can’t do shit about anything.” Rascal crossed his arms and stared hard at a shocked Azul. “If you weren’t so greedy, Ashengrotto, then my brother would still be alive and everything would be fine. So you’re right, no amount of apologies will ever make up for what you have caused me, what you took from me, what you stole from me.”
“I-”
“Don’t want to hear it.” Rascal growled. “Now listen to me and listen well, Dorm leader, I never want to see you again. The only reason I’m still in the dorm is that what remains of my brother is here. Once I gather myself and his things, I will be switching dorms.” Rascal turned to leave. “Enjoy your life, knowing that there is blood on your hands.”
(Sorry for bullying Azul but I thought Rascal going off on him was valid given what happened)

Brothers
Being the older brother means protecting those who come after you. To keep an eye on them when out and about, being the one who gets followed when they decide to tag along with you. Being the one they turn to in times of need and distress. There is no correct way to be a big brother, but you grow into the role thrust upon you at whatever age. Goliath was two when he became a big brother, staring at the tiny bundle in his mother’s arms. His mother gently showed him his new brother and just as he reached out to touch him, his baby brother bit him and sank his sharp teeth directly into his arm. The next few minutes was spent trying to pry Rascal off Goliath’s arm and consulting a crying Goliath once his brother had let go. It was a moment the Gallucci family shall never forget.
Years later, Rascal followed Goliath everywhere. The two shark mers were never seen without the other being close by. Goliath never minded it, choosing to focus on his friends rather than his clinging brother. Goliath’s friends often joked that they should leave Rascal somewhere and see how long it takes for him to find Goliath since the little shark mer had a homing beacon on his brother. Goliath never joked with them on that, knowing that Rascal was more likely to sit there and cry for him than actually seek him out.
Then one day, Rascal got it in his head that he didn’t need his big brother to explore the Coral Sea and left. That led to the whole family going out to look for Rascal. Goliath found him being chased around by an orcas, they took turns bumping him and nipping at him, eventually trapping him up on one of the ice floes. Something snapped in Goliath that day, which led to him awakening to his Unique Magic and saving his brother from harm. Rascal actively never left Goliath’s side after that, until they grew older.
Goliath watched as Rascal grew cocky and arrogant as the years passed by. Now Goliath had to deal with his brother’s non-stop pranks and chaotic energy. Now the only time Rascal would turn to Goliath was when he was swimming away from other merfolk he had pranked. Given that the older shark mer was much larger and more imposing, the other merfolk had backed off immediately, not wanting to deal with someone that strong. Goliath, of course, always scolded Rascal about his pranks and such. Rascal always waved it off as a joke and began to talk about the prank he had pulled or his day.
Then came the day that Goliath got chosen to go to NRC and for the first time in the brothers lives, they would be away from each other. His parents wished him luck on the surface and Rascal joked that he could finally be free of his brother’s watchful eye. Goliath departed not long after and began a new life on the surface.
It wasn’t until his third year that the brothers were reunited under the same dorm. Rascal made a big huff about it, saying he wanted to be in a dorm without him, but deep down, Goliath knew Rascal was relieved to be sorted into the same dorm as him. Goliath once again found his job to be a mediator between Rascal and his latest prank victim. He did warn Rascal that he wouldn’t always be there as a shield between him and whoever had pissed off that day. Rascal, of course, never took that to heart and continued to be as chaotic as he could.
Now Goliath thought NRC was one of the safest places to be, leagues better than the Coral Sea. They were surrounded by powerful mages and some in training, Goliath assumed that nothing major would be happening in his third year. Then the overblots happened. He heard about it in passing from some of Heartslabyul students, then he heard it from Savanaclaw students, and now he was dreading what would happen to Octavinelle. Would that have happened to him if he had stayed dorm leader? Surely not and it had to be just a coincidence.
Then Azul overblotted and it went to hell real fast. Goliath and Rascal joined in the fight against Azul and as Goliath was holding his own against the tentacles of Azul’s Phantom, he was struck hard in the stomach and thrown skidding across the ground. Before Azul could have a chance to finish off a wounded Goliath, Rascal has awoken to his Unique Magic in an effort to protect his brother. A trio of flaming wisps had burst forth and encased both brothers in a shield, absorbing the damage dealt meant for them and protecting them.
Azul’s overblot was dealt with and things returned to normal in Octavinelle, but that day had done its damage to the brothers. Rascal had almost lost Goliath, and the damage Goliath had taken from his wounds had healed into scars. They had awoken to their Unique Magic in an effort to save one another. Rascal that night had stayed with Goliath in his room, fearful that he would wake up the next day and his brother would be gone. Goliath said nothing, but kept an eye on his brother in case he needed anything.
Sometimes being the big brother sometimes means you need protecting as well.

Rascal and Octavinelle
Azul
The big bad boss man.
Azul sees Rascal as a mini Floyd but without the mood swings.
Azul is Rascal’s biggest target for pranks, he just likes to see him get angry at times.
Rascal has no sense of self-preservation, hence why he pulls all these tricks on Azul.
Azul “Do you like living?” Rascal “Occasionally”
Azul often calls on Goliath to handle his brother
Jade
Avoid at all times, unless there is no way to avoid him.
Rascal isn’t afraid of him, but he just avoids him.
Jade knows of the pranks Rascal pull on the other dorm members, he sees them coming but never warns anyone.
Rascal would never prank Jade, simply because that prank would come back at him 10x as worse.
Jade finds Rascal amusing, a small ball of energy.
Floyd
The one he looks up to, literally and figuratively.
Often gets involved with Rascal’s pranks.
Rascal would also never prank him, so Floyd is forever safe from him.
Since they’re in the same dorm and club, Rascal tends to tag along with whatever Floyd is doing, which often gets him into trouble.
Rascal considers Floyd a friend.
Sharp tooth buddies with a wack sense of tormenting people.

Strike Ch.3
Goliath was at the end of his rope, he had looked through the third year alchemy textbooks and had not found the potion in any of the books. He even tried searching through the textbooks in the library and had still been unsuccessful. Now he was resorting to asking one of the only two fourth years that had returned to NRC. He entered the Pomefiore dorm lounge and looked around, hoping to find someone he could ask-
“Ah, Monsieur Doux!”
Goliath paused as Rook greeted him seemingly out of nowhere.
“To what do we owe your visit?”
“Hello, Rook. I’m actually here to see Evan. You wouldn’t happen to know where his room is, do you?”
“Monsieur Artiste? Why of course I do!” Rook smiled and waved his hand for Goliath to follow him.
They walked in silence, with Rook greeting a few of his dorm members as they passed. Eventually they reached Evan’s door and Rook turned to face the third year.
“I heard what happened to your brother and I hope he recovers soon.”
“Thank you.”
“And I pray to the great seven that you find whoever did this.”
Goliath smirked, teeth on full display as he responded. “Oh I will and once I do, he’ll wish the headmaster had found him instead.”
Rook took a bow and left the shark mer in the hallway. Taking a deep breath, Goliath knocked on the door and waited. Within a few seconds, Evan had opened the door and stared at him with surprise in his purple eyes.
“Goliath? What a surprise. Come in.”
“Thank you.” Goliath ducked into the room as Evan closed the door behin him.
Evan’s room was a standard Pomefiore room, elegant and beautifully put together. Everything in his room was clean as his personal items were put away and out of sight. A set of chairs along with a table sat in front of one of the windows, the sunlight directing hitting the furniture. Most of the curtains were drawn except for the one above the table set. A cup of tea and an open magazine on the table clued the third year that he had interrupted Evan’s relaxation. Goliath took in the room before his eyes fell on the fae lounging on Evan’s normally well kept bed. J.J. stared back at him, sprawled out on the bed while his long black tail was curled up on the sheets next to him.
“S’up, Gallucci?”
“J.J.”
“May I ask what it is you need?” Evan sat down in one of the room’s chairs and crossed his leg over his knee.
“I need your help.” Goliath handed Rascal’s notebook to the singer. “I’ve searched my textbooks and I can’t find what this layout of ingredients would cause.”
Evan took the notebook and quickly skipped to the bookmark page, his eyes read over the list and he frowned.
“I’m sorry, Goliath, but I can’t say that I’ve ever heard of this before and Potionlogy is one of my best subjects.”
Goliath sighed, there went his best lead.
“Oi.” J.J. said as he got to his feet and walked over to the other two. “The hell are you both looking at?”
“Rascal’s notebook.” Evan responded and handed it to the fae. “Surely you heard about what happened.”
“Yeah, Trappola was talking about it earlier. Sorry to hear about that, Gallucci.”
“I know he’ll recover.”
“Of course he will, if he’s anything like his brother, he’s stubborn as all hell.” J.J. read over the ingredients and paused. “What caused the explosion?”
“Mugwater seeds.”
“These are the ingredients for Chameleon Splash.”
“A what?” Both Evan and Goliath were looking at J.J. now.
“Got a cousin who made this on accident at her workplace and they had to note it down with what not to mix together. I remember her telling that story once, good thing I listened.”
“Chameleon Splash...” Goliath trailed off before speaking up. “So how does it work?”
“Eh.. normally you make it and it has a start up where nothing happens for a few seconds before it explodes. Anything it hits with the splash of the liquid is burnt up cause the acid starts eating away at whatever it hits. Skin, clothes, metal, etc.”
“But Crewel said the liquid disappeared afterwards.”
“Yeah that’s the other thing it does. Just disappears like a chameleon in hiding. It disappears and evaporates into nothing leaving you with whatever it broke out of and the damage it caused. And you say this is what caused the accident?”
“Yeah, it blew up the heavy duty cauldron.”
“How many were added?”
“Crewel suspects it was roughly a handful.”
“That explains it then, too many seeds were added in.” J.J. closed the notebook and handed it back to Goliath. “Someone caused a high level explosion, a potion they don’t teach at NRC.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first thing Rascal felt when waking up with the low burning sensation in his back, the second thing he noticed was he was underwater. With a groan, he slowly pushed himself up, only to fall back down onto the makeshift bed as he hissed in pain when the potion soaked bandages dragged across his burn. He curled his tail towards him as he tried to wrap his brain around the current events.
“Rascal! You’re awake!”
He looked up, seeing Xavier across from him in the water. Rascal made a confused sound at the sight and squinted his eyes. Xavier seemed to know what the sound was for as he gave a small smile.
“I’m on the outside of the pool.” Xavier pressed his hand against the glass. “See?”
Upon seeing that, Rascal huffed and placed his face back into the bed with a groan.
“Rascal?”
“Hurts.” He raised his head back up. “How long was I out for?”
“A few days. You had everyone worried.”
“Mmh...So what happened?”
“After you went to the infirmary?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, Goliath went around asking for more info on the accident. The school is uh...” Xavier rubbed the back of his head. “The school, namely Crowley, thinks this was our fault and they want us to pay for the damages done to the cauldron.”
“What?” Rascal sat up only to bite back a wave of pain as he flopped back down. “But it ain’t our fault.”
“Professor Crewel knows this and he’s trying to get Crowley to change his mind. He knows it was an accident, but I guess we have to prove ourselves innocent.”
Rascal groaned. “This is shitty.”
“I know, but Goliath-”
“Oh you’re awake.”
Both first years looked up to see Goliath walk into the room.
“How are you feeling?” His brother asked as he placed a notebook on top of one of the chairs.
“Still hurts.” Rascal responded. “But not as much as before.”
“That’s... That’s good.” Goliath sighed in relief. “I’ve been using your notes-
“My notes...? Oh.” Rascal let out a nervous laugh. “Please tell me you didn’t see the earlier ones.”
All Goliath did was cross his arms and send him a look.
Rascal gave a sheepish smile. “Promise you won’t tell anyone?”
“You’re lucky I care more about finding the truth than I do stopping you from pranking people.” Goliath said. “But thanks to your upkeep and note taking, I was able to find out what happened.”
Rascal got up and approached the glass as best as he could. “So?”
“The mixture also makes a highly volatile component known as Chameleon Splash.”
“Chameleon Splash?”
“Sounds bad.” Xavier said.
“It is, it’s very bad. Whoever added the Mugwater seeds in didn’t know the reaction it would cause. I think they were just hoping to have you fail the assignment. What were you making anyway?”
“Smoke that could change colors.” Rascal responded. “It was a simple potion to make, hardly needed us to be supervised.”

Strike Ch.2
Word spread throughout the school very quickly, it wasn’t everyday that there was a massive accident. Rumors had spread as well claiming that it was another one of Rascal’s pranks but this time it had gone way wrong. Xavier held his tongue as he continued on his way towards the infirmary. Despite all the healing potions used on him, Rascal has shown no signs of recovery. It frightened Xavier and Goliath and the two worked to find out what the used ingredients had caused. Xavier entered the infirmary and paused upon hearing Azul and Jade talking to Goliath.
“It hasn’t healed yet?” Azul.
“No, I’m starting to get concerned. Before he passed out, all he said was that it burns.” Goliath.
“Perhaps it did more damage than we know of.” Jade. “Exactly what kind of explosion was it?”
“Neither Rascal nor Xavier know. So I have to do some research.” Goliath sighed. “It looks like his wound is getting worse. It’s bleeding more frequently and the nurses are at a loss of what to do.”
“It could be that the wound is deeper than they thought.” Jade suggested.
“Maybe, but our sharkskin would stop any major or deeper damage from occurring.” Goliath responded. “I suggested to the nurses that he might heal better in his true form.”
“In the medicinal pool?” Azul asked.
“Yes. They moved him there in the morning, but he has yet to wake up.”
“And how has Xavier been taking things?”
“You can ask him yourself.”
Xavier jolted as Goliath moved the curtain that was blocking the first year from sight. The octavinelle students stared at him with mildly amused smiles on their faces.
“Uh... good afternoon.” Xavier messed with his magic pen in his jacket pocket.
“How have you been?” Jade asked. “And how is your wound?”
“I’m fine and my arm is still hurting, burns too. Bleeds sometimes as well.”
“Same as Rascal.” Goliath spoke as he gently grabbed Xavier’s left arm. “Maybe you were hit by the same thing as him.”
“I-I could’ve been.” Goliath let his arm go. “All the liquid in the cauldron seemed to have disappeared after the explosion. Even Professor Crewel couldn’t find any remains of it.”
“Really now?” Azul said with a tilt of his head. “That is odd.”
“Um, if that’s all, I’d like to see Rascal.”
Goliath gestured to a side room with the door closed. “He’s in there.”
“Thank you.” Xavier opened the door and walked into the large room.
Several pools stretched around the large room, the pool’s water was a seafoam green and all of them were void of any underwater life, apart from one. Stashed in the corner, against the wall, was Rascal in his true form. Xavier quietly approached the glass and took in the form of his best friend. Rascal was noticeably smaller compared to that of a great white and his gray skin had a silver blue-ish tint to it. A few small scars were littered all over his tail fin and seemed to reach up onto his back as well. His dorsal fin was smaller and darker in color.
Rascal’s arm fins were lighter than the rest of him and had a few nicks in them as well. His entire underbelly was white, starting from the middle of his chest and stretching all the way down to the edge of his tail fin. The rest of him was the same silver blue-ish tint. Thick bandages were wrapped around Rascal’s back, some of them Xavier could see spots of blood on them, signinally that they would soon need to be changed. Rascal was still unconscious and unmoving apart from his gills filtering in water for him.
Xavier sat down in one of the chairs in front of the pool and placed his face in his hands. He hoped Rascal could recover from this.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goliath flipped through his brother’s notebook once Crewel had handed it to him. There were multiple pages filled with notes and illustrations in it. Some of the ingredients had X’s next to them, signaling that Rascal had tried adding something and it had failed. All of his experiments were dated and kept up to date. Goliath flipped to the last date in the book, seeing the list of ingredients they were working with and who had put them in.
“Nothing’s out of place.”
“Your brother keeps extensive notes. He has never failed a potion.” Crewel said.
Goliath closed it and looked at him. “Was anything out of place or taken that day?”
“Yes, someone had burnt off the lock attached to the more... volatile items.”
“Anything missing?”
“Mugwater seeds. Adding one wouldn’t cause that reaction, so whoever took it must’ve added more than that.”
“Does anyone know that?”
“Only third years, like yourself, but we haven’t covered it yet.”
Goliath frowned. “Are the seeds pungent?”
“Extremely, whoever handled it would still have the scent on them, even after washing or trying to mask the scent.”
Goliath hummed in thought. “Thank you professor.”
“What do you plan on doing once you find the one that caused this, pup?”
Goliath turned to leave. “No one messes with my family and I'll make sure that message is heard loud and clear.”

Strike Ch.1
“Hey, hey, a new game came out the other day. Wanna come over and play it?”
Xavier looked up from measuring the ingredients and glanced over to where Rascal was writing down something in his notebook. His normally loose navy hair was tied back in a messy ponytail.
“Don’t you have work?”
“Nope.” Rascal responded and turned around, his goggles were hanging around his neck as he knocked the end of his pen against his cheek. He smiled, showing off his rows of serrated teeth. “I’m off tonight, so I’m free.”
Xavier smiled and tapped at the goggles around his head, causing the shark mer to roll his eyes and put on his own. “Sure, I’d love to come over. Only after we finish our homework.”
“Ugh, fine.”
Xavier chuckled and returned his attention to their cauldron, he reached for the next ingredient just as Rascal sounded behind him.
“Wait, Xav-”
BOOM!
Ringing.
Loud ringing.
That was all Xavier could hear as he blinked his eyes open to see a cloud of smoke surrounding him on the floor. All around him, he could hear the muffled screams of panic and yelling. Beside him he could see broken pieces of the heavy duty cauldron surrounding him. He blinked, once twice, in an attempt to clear his vision. Above him, a quartet of green will-o-s danced around his head before disappearing. Xavier recognized the Unique Magic of Rascal as he attempted to sit up only to pause as he felt a heavy weight on his chest. Xavier looked down, seeing the prone body of Rascal laying on him. He placed a hand on his back only to freeze in shock and pull it away.
Blood, there was blood covering his hand.
Xavier could feel his voice catch in his throat as he stared at the burnt and bloody back of his best friend.
“Rascal!” Xavier shook him, hoping to get a response. “Rascal!”
Rascal was completely passed out and Xavier felt fear wash over him as he held his best friend close to him. He flinched at the pain suddenly searing up from his left arm and he gently turned it over to see the massive burn mark stretching from his wrist to his elbow.
Exactly what in the great seven had happened?
“..ria. Soria!”
Xavier can’t even recall what happened, one second he was about to add in an ingredient, then next thing he knows, everything goes dark.
“Soria!”
Xavier blinked and jerked his head over to where Crewel had been calling for him.
“Are you hurt?”
“M-My arm is burned, but Rascal...”
Crewel turned his attention to the unconscious shark mer and tried to keep a straight face as he spotted the injury.
“If you can, get him to the infirmary immediately.” He turned to one of the other students nearby. “And someone go and alert the older Gallucci to what happened.”
Xavier wordlessly picked up Rascal carefully while he nursed his wounded arm before leaving the classroom. Outside of the room, students stood around, fear and panic still in their eyes as they focused on Xavier and Rascal as they passed by. Xavier made his way to infirmary and quickly informed the nurses of what had happened. He stood watching as they quickly got to work on Rascal before one of the nurses turned to him.
“Any wounds?”
Xavier painlessly and shakingly extended his left arm. “It got burned.”
The nurse gave a look before directing him towards one of the unused chairs. “Go and sit down and let me clean the wound.”
Xavier sat down and silently watched as two of them started cleaning Rascal’s wound. The nurse that tended to him started carefully pulling back his lab jacket and uniform and started cleaning the wound. He flinched at the stinging pain and tore his eyes away from the work being done on the shark mer. Xavier couldn’t stand to see his best friend in that state.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goliath finished taking notes as the class wrapped up and he started to put his notebook away. Beside him, Night sketched a few designs for his garden in one of his notebooks. Right as Goliath leaned over to offer some advice, the door burst open. All the third years, including the teacher, looked over to the panting first year in lab gear in the doorway.
G-Gallucci!”
“Yes?” Goliath spoke up in the silence of the classroom as he felt eyes move towards his direction.
“C-Come quick, it’s your brother. He’s been hurt in a lab acci-”
Goliath immediately shot up out of his seat before the first year could finish and rushed out the door. The first year called out for him as he made it halfway down the hall.
“He’s in the infirmary!”
Exactly what the hell had happened to his brother?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xavie jolted up as the doors to the infirmary burst open to reveal Goliath standing in the doorway. His red eyes were wide and his irises were shrunk, Xavier felt himself shrink down as his eyes moved towards him. Goliath quietly made his way over to the frightened first year and stood before him.
“What happened?”
“I-I don’t know.”
“What?”
“I-I mean I don’t know! We were in Potionlogy doing an assignment and just as I was about to add something, the cauldron exploded.”
Goliath closed his eyes and took a deep breath, when he opened them again, his eyes had returned to their normal size. “So this was an accident.”
“Maybe? Rascal is one of the best people to be paired with when it comes to Potionlogy. He never makes a mistake.”
Goliath frowned and his eyes narrowed. “Then what-”.
“...pungent...”
Both of them whipped their heads over to where Rascal lay on the infirmary bed. His back was all bandaged up and his lab coat along with his shirt and vest were gone. Rascal slowly raised his head with a clear struggle.
“I smelled something pungent before the explosion.”
Both of them quickly moved to sit beside Rascal’s bed.
“Hey little brother.” Goliath’s voice was soft as he spoke. “How are you feeling?”
“My back feels like it’s burning.” Rascal groaned in pain. “Xav, you weren’t hurt were you?”
“Your Unique Magic cushioned my fall back but my arm got burned.” He raised his bandaged arm. “You... you took the brunt of the damage though.”
Rascal seemed to relax at that, sinking back into the bed with a pain filled sigh.
“Rascal.” The first year looked at his brother. “What did you mean by you smelled something pungent? Were you working with anything like that?”
A slow shake of his head. “We had all the ingredients out. None of them smelled like that.”
A realization dawned on Xavier and judging from the look in Goliath’s eyes, he had realized it too.
Someone had sabotaged them.

Crush
I wanted to do Whumptober but it’s too late for that but i still wanted to do some whump stuff. Also first time writing Jamil.
Prompt
------------------------------------------------------------
Beautiful.
Cool.
Mysterious.
These are a few words that Xavier would use to describe Jamil Viper. Xavier had been smitten by his vice dorm leader since he saw him at orientation and the admiring had grown into a crush. If at aunty point Jamil looked like he needed help, Xavier was always the first to jump in. Xavier always couldn’t hold a proper conversation with him without turning into a blubbering mess because of his infatuation. To Xavier, Jamil was the one who held his heart. Maybe that’s why it hurt so much to see Jamil overblot into a monster, the Octavinelle group that he and Yuu had asked to help with the situation with Kalim were blown out of the dorm along with Yuu and Grim. The first year helplessly watched as they were flung weightlessly out into the sky.
“Xavier.”
Xavier flinched as he heard his name being said by the monster of his affection. Timidly, he turned to face Jamil and made sure not to look him in the eye. A finger tilted his chin up to look into gray eyes as the snakes of his hair started to coil around Xavier.
“Xavier.” Jamil sang. “You’ll join my side, won’t you?”
“U-Um.” Xavier’s eyes flicked off to the side. “I-I, um.”
The finger turned to a grip on his chin. “You betrayed me once, Xavier, by allowing them into the dorm.”
“I only wanted help to deal with Kalim. I-I had no idea what you were planning.”
Jamil didn’t say anything else, the narrowing of his eyes promised pain for Xavier should he betray him again. The vice dorm leader released his grip on the first year’s chin and walked away to bask in his victory. Xavier remained where he was, hand rubbing his chin as he stared over the hypnotized dorm members. He debated what he should do next before he was called over again by Jamil.
“Play a song for me. I want to relish this moment.”
Wordlessly, Xavier picked up a discarded guitar leaning against one of the pillars and sat nearby. He glanced quickly over at the lounging Jamil and began to strum a tune. They stayed like this, Jamil ordering one of the members to fetch him some grapes as Xavier continued playing tune after tune. A while later, Xavier found his purple eyes drawn towards movement out of the corner of his eye. He saw the blown away group returning and quietly sneaking around, Rascal placed a finger over his lips in a “stay quiet” motion. Eventually they managed to take Jamil by surprise, but before he could attack them, Xavier joined their side in the fight. Together they took down Jamil and blot disappeared from his form.
The next day the dorm and their guests traveled to the oasis. Right as Xavier was about to join Rascal in the water, he was pulled aside by Jamil.
“Xavier, about those things I said...”
Part of the first year hoped Jamil hadn’t meant a thing he had said, that it was just the blot talking.
“I meant what I said.”
Only for his hopes to come crashing down into the hot sand below.
“I was only using you as a reason to gain more of your trust. You were just a pawn in my plot, I know the dorm thinks highly of you and I had realized that if I had you on my side, then my take over of the dorm could truly go unchallenged.” Jamil stared at him. “I was aware of your crush on me and also used that to my advantage. I’m not the man you fell in love with, Xavier, all those things you think I am are false. You and I could never be together.”
“I-I see.” Xavier gave a shaky smile. “Thank you for telling me, now if you’ll excuse me.”
Xavier quickly turned on his heel and returned to where Rascal was. The mer shark was glaring at Jamil before his eyes slid over to his best friend.
“Xav?”
“I’m, I’m fine.” Xavier’s heart was crushed and shattered into a million pieces. “Let’s just enjoy the rest of the day.”
Rascal opened his arms and Xavier all but fell into them, ignoring the way the rough texture of his mer from felt against Xavier’s bare skin. Gray arms wrapped around him and the two swam out towards the center of the oasis, far out of reach and earshot of anyone. Rascal repositioned Xavier so he was laying on his chest while Rascal floated on his back. The two stayed like that until it was time to head back.
“Are you sure you don’t need anything?” Rascal asked as he stood outside of Xavier’s room.
“I’m fine.” He responded with a soft smile. “Go and get some sleep, I’ll stop by in the morning.”
The short first year frowned, gave his best friend a look over, before leaving after a few more moments. Xavier waved bye and closed the door, before breaking down and crying. He slid down to the floor and curled up into a ball, sobbing into his knees. To know he had been used like that and by someone he trusted had him feeling like a fool.

Vargas Camp
Rascal gets a shiny new outfit just for the camping trip.
Tiny gremlin is super excited be out of his brother’s line of sight for a few days.
Rouge’s in their normal gym outfit, they’re not too affected by the cold air of the mountains to warrant getting a whole new outfit.
But Ruggie totally bought them a jacket anyway.
Rascal goes fishing with Floyd, which just means they both dove into the water and grabbed the fish.
Rouge basically stayed with Ruggie the whole time and still managed to contribute to the trip.
Any wildflowers Rascal comes across while trying to help his club, he stashes in his pockets gently so he can show them off to Goliath and ask about them.
When looking for the lanternblossom, Rascal scaled cliffs while trying to find them.
Some of his clubmates were concerned he’d get himself hurt, but Rascal climbed down fairly easily.
Rouge gets taken by the beast and Rascal joins the remaining survivors in taking down the beast.
In the end tho, Rouge doesn’t wanna go on another camping trip unless it’s just them and Ruggie.
Rascal 100% wants to go camping again, but with his family.
