The only difference here is that Realme X2 features a 32-megapixel selfie camera, while the Realme XT is loaded with a 16-megapixel shooter. In our testing, we found out that the daylight performance of the smartphone is quite decent and you will get crisp and well-detailed photos. The portrait mode comes with a fair share of hits and misses. The macro lens could have been better in our opinion. Coming to the low light, the phone delivered a mixed bag results. Sometimes when the lights were right, it did a good job, but when the lights were not that great, we noticed grains and noises quite prominently. The selfie performance is better and you get good facial features with this smartphone. Software and Battery In terms of software, the smartphone runs on Android 9.0 Pie with ColorOS 6.0.1 running on top of it. The user interface is the same as found in other Realme smartphones. This means you will get Digital Wellbeing feature along with a system-wide dark mode, navigation gestures, customized themes, and app drawer. You also get App cloner through which you can run two different accounts on the same application. Then you have a smart driving mode that helps you block incoming calls, messages and more.  On the downside, there is still some noticeable bloatware including Facebook, Helo, Opera News, WPS Office, Daily Hunt, Amazon Shopping among others. Thankfully, you can delete the third-party applications, which is a good thing. Then there are two folders, Hot Apps and Hot Games that show the content of its own app store and there is no way to delete it.  Coming to the battery part, a 4,000 mAh battery backs the Realme X2. In our testing, we found out that the phone was able to last up to one and a half days with normal usage. Under power usage, like checking emails, using WhatsApp, streaming content and playing games, you will get around one full day of battery backup.

However, the real difference is in the charging time. The Realme X2 supports VOOC 4.0 fast charging technology. The new adapter was able to charge the device up to 60 percent in half an hour and around 97 percent in one hour. This is quite interesting and comes in handy when you are in a hurry and want to charge your smartphone quickly. VerdictThe Realme X2 is currently the best offering from Realme in the sub Rs 20,000 segment. The smartphone gives you a good design language along with the Super AMOLED screen and better processor as compared to its rivals. However, if you already have a Realme XT then it doesn’t make sense to go for this smartphone. But if you are a new user and want to buy a new smartphone with good features and stylish design language coupled with fast charging support and more, then you can consider this as a worthy option.

From entry-levels that could pass off as premium ones, to innovative flagship releases, to worth-a-kidney high-ends — each shine their own way as they all have something to bring to the table, and deserve their very own spotlights.

It has been an eventful year with the comeback of one of the decade’s most iconic phone, the Motorola’s Razr, but this time it is elevated. Of course, how can we turn a blind eye on Samsung’s big bang with its transforming phone, the Galaxy Fold. Apple startled the world with its eccentric cameras. Huawei ceased to innovate when it awed the world with its P30 Pro’s 30x zoom feature. Newcomer TCL heads in the game to join in the giants OPPO, Vivo, Realme, of course, the lone Pinoy pride that is Cherry Mobile, and so on. With all these said, let us get into the details as we look back on 2019’s shining stars.

Samsung Galaxy Fold

POCO X2: The Rebranded Version Of Redmi K30 To Launch In India On February 4th

The most anticipated and overly hyped brand in the history of the Indian smartphone market i.e. POCO is all set to launch its second device on February 4th. The first device from POCO was named POCO F1 and it was an instant hit among the users and it surprised the whole smartphone industry with its premium features at a price almost half of the other devices with the same specification. The tagline of this smartphone was ‘Everything You Need And Nothing You Don’t’ and it falls true on every aspect. This device was launched back in August of 2018 and since then everyone was eagerly waiting for the next iteration supposed to be POCO F2.

Previously POCO was a subsidiary brand of Xiaomi but now the CEO of Xiaomi India Manu Kumar Jain has confirmed that POCO is now a separate legal entity and will become a separate brand in itself. So, the hype was again on the peak as everyone was again into trap of expectation of POCO F2 but almost every POCO Fan was let down as the brand confirmed that they will be launching a new device under the brand name of POCO but it will not be POCO F2 instead it will be named as POCO X2.

In my personal opinion it was the most heartbreaking news for all the POCO fans as everyone was expecting something exceptional and out of the league specification and to be honest POCO X2 will not be following the league that was set by POCO F1 and it can’t even stand on there tagline of ‘Everything You Need And Nothing You Don’t’.

Here are some brief specification of POCO X2 or to be Redmi K30 4G

POCO X2 will have a display of 6.67 inches with a refresh rate of 120Hz and support of HDR 10 technology but the twist in the scheme is that the display is not an AMOLED display instead it is an IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a long pill-shaped punch hole on the top right corner of the screen that will be housing dual front camera setup with a primary lens of 20MP and a portrait lens of 2MP.

POCO X2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730G SoC that is a pretty solid performer when it comes to multitasking and gaming. The chipset is based on 8nm architecture with a powerful Adreno 618 GPU.

We’re currently spoiled for choice in the budget and mid-range smartphone space. There’s no shortage of options, but at times, too much choice can be a bad thing. Realme, for instance, currently has multiple variants of the 6 Pro, X2, XT, and X smartphones retailing between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000. There’s a lot of overlap in terms of pricing between the models and their features, making it even harder for customers to make a buying decision.

Today, we’ll be focusing on two of Realme’s most recent offerings — the 6 Pro and the X2. Both phones are priced starting at Rs. 17,999 and share similar features such as a 64-megapixel primary camera, powerful 700-series Qualcomm SoCs, and very fast charging. Of course, there are some features unique to each smartphone which we’ll take a look at in more detail in this comparison.

We understand that you can’t buy either of these phones right now due to the lockdown, but when services do resume eventually, which one of these smartphones will offer better value? Let’s find out.

Realme 6 Pro vs Realme X2 prices and variants

As we just mentioned, both phones start at Rs. 17,999, but with a slight difference in specifications. The 6 Pro (Review) is the newer model, and comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage at that price. Meanwhile, the slightly older X2 (Review) starts with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The next variants of both models have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but the 6 Pro costs Rs. 18,999, while the X2 is priced at Rs. 19,999. The top-end variants of both models come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage but once again, the 6 Pro costs slightly less, at Rs. 19,999, while the X2 costs Rs. 20,999.

Realme 6 Pro vs Realme X2 design

The Realme 6 Pro and the X2 both have polycarbonate bodies with Gorilla Glass on the front and back. The build quality is very good, and both phones look striking thanks to the unique, light-reflecting patterns on their backs. The X2 comes in three colours with wormhole-like streaks on the back, according to Realme’s description, while the 6 Pro has a lightning-inspired pattern and comes in two colours.

The Realme 6 Pro is a little larger and heavier than the X2, and has a slightly bigger display. Due to this, the Realme X2 is a tad easier to manage when held in one hand. Both phones have a single speaker at the bottom, along with a USB Type-C port and a headphone socket. Button placement is similar, and both phones also offer provisions for two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card.

The rear camera placement is virtually identical on the 6 Pro and the X2, however, it’s a bit different for the selfie cameras, which we’ll get into in the display section.

Going by physical design alone, it’s hard to pick a clear winner. We’re leaning more towards the Realme X2, simply because it’s slightly slimmer and easier to manage for everyday use. However, if you’re used to big phones, you shouldn’t have any trouble with the 6 Pro.

Realme 6 Pro vs Realme X2 performance and gaming

The Realme 6 Pro is powered by the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC, while the Realme X2 uses the Snapdragon 730G SoC. Both are octa-core processors, built on an 8nm fabrication process, and feature the same Adreno 618 GPU. However, there are slight differences. On paper, the Snapdragon 730G SoC should be slightly more powerful due to its Kryo 470 cores, compared to the Kryo 465 cores in the 720G. On the other hand, the 720G has Qualcomm’s newer Hexagon 692 DSP and also supports India’s NavIC satellite navigation system, which the 730G lacks. Both phones use LPDDR4X RAM and the flash storage format is UFS 2.1.

Looking at benchmark performance, the Snapdragon 720G-powered Realme 6 Pro actually managed better scores in some tests compared the Realme X2. In AnTuTu, the 6 Pro scored 2,83,22 points, compared to 2,75,686 points from the X2. Similarly, in Geekbench’s single and multi-core tests, we got 569 and 1,570 points respectively from the 6 Pro, compared to 547 and 1,616 points from the X2. The 6 Pro scored 16fps in GFXbench’s Car Chase test, while the X2 scored 15fps.

Real-world performance was very similar. General usage was snappy on both models and multitasking was handled well. Both phones are also capable of handling any type of game with ease. From simple titles to heavy games such as PUBG Mobile, all run very well without a hitch. Excess heat is also handled very well as neither of these phones got overly hot when gaming even for extended periods of time.

One of the biggest differences between these two phones is with their display panels. The Realme X2 uses an AMOLED panel, which allows it to achieve rich colours and deep black levels. This has also allowed Realme to use an in-display fingerprint sensor for authentication. The Realme 6 Pro on the other hand uses an IPS LCD panel, which also has good viewing angles and colours, but with slightly less saturation. Realme has had to go with a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint sensor in the power button, since an in-display one won’t work with such a panel. It feels as equally quick and we didn’t have any issues with either one.

There’s also a difference in the display cutouts. The X2, being a slightly older model, has a more traditional notch at the top of the display, while the 6 Pro gets a more premium looking dual hole-punch cutout for its two selfie cameras.

Watching videos is fun on both phones but the Realme X2 does provide slightly richer colours and is a tad brighter than the 6 Pro. Both phones are Widevine L1 certified, which means they are capable of playing HD or higher resolution videos in streaming apps such as Netflix. Audio quality is very similar across both phones and it’s really hard to pick a single winner. Both have Dolby Atmos enhancements, which is on by default. The sound is rich and loud, with good details for vocals and the mid-range.

The Realme 6 Pro has a slightly larger 4,300mAh, compared to the 4,000mAh one in the Realme X2. We noticed a big difference in runtime for our battery loop test, though. The X2 ran for just over 13 hours, while the 6 Pro ran for nearly 22 hours. To be fair, when we tested the X2, it was running ColorOS 6 based on Android 9, while the 6 Pro was running on Realme UI based on Android 10. With actual usage, both phones will easily last for a day and half before needing a charge, which is a good thing. There’s 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4 technology in both phones too, which take both batteries from zero to above 90 percent in an hour.

The Realme X2 and the 6 Pro both have the same 64-megapixel Samsung GW1 sensor for the primary camera, plus an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera. The fourth camera on each phone is a bit different. The X2 has a depth camera, while the 6 Pro has a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. The selfie cameras are also a bit different. The X2 uses a 32-megapixel sensor, while the 6 Pro has two selfie cameras — a 16-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens. Both phones have the exact same camera app, with the same shooting modes and features.

Under good light, the Realme 6 Pro and the X2’s primary cameras capture nearly identical images. The colour tone is a bit warmer on the Realme X2, while the 6 Pro has a more neutral tone, but both capture very good details and colours. The wide-angle cameras are useful and both phones perform virtually identically here. Close-ups look good, with pleasing depth of field, good details, and rich colours. When it comes to extreme close-ups, we found the 6 Pro’s macro camera to do a much better job than the macro camera in the X2.

The Realme 6 Pro also has a telephoto camera, and at 2x optical zoom, it captures much better details than the X2’s digital zoom. The X2’s zoom slider only goes up to 10x, while on the 6 Pro, the 5x zoom level offers similar magnification. There’s a clear distinction between the two photos, with the 6 Pro offering a sharper and more vivid image. The Realme 6 Pro lets you zoom in up to 20x, which still results in decent-looking shots under good light.

In low light, both phones struggle to lock focus and details aren’t very good. Night mode helps brighten the image and here, we found the 6 Pro to produce slightly better colours. The wide-angle cameras of both phones fail to deliver pleasing results in low light, but with Night mode, both do improve slightly.

We found that both phones do a good job with selfies. Details are sharp and skin tones are warm and natural. With portrait mode for selfies, both phones do a good job detecting edges and blurring out the right background.

We finally come to videos. The Realme X2 and the 6 Pro are both capable of 4K video recording. Image quality is decent, although colours do look a little overstated. You can zoom in but you can’t switch to the wide-angle camera while recording. We recommend using the wide-angle cameras only if you need a wider perspective, as it only records at 1080p and the quality is not very good on either phone.

Realme 6 Pro vs Realme X2 software and usage experience

The Realme 6 Pro ships with Realme UI 1.0 based on Android 10, out of the box. Meanwhile, the Realme X2 was recently updated to Android 10, so both phones are now equal when it comes to software. Realme UI adds a cleaner look and feel to ColorOS and is similar to stock Android. You still get all the customisations and features of ColorOS, such as Game Space for optimising the performance of games, a system-wide dark mode, screen recording, etc.

Verdict

The Realme X2 was, and still is, a very solid performer. Not too long ago, it was one of the most powerful smartphones you could buy for under Rs. 20,000. However, with the introduction of the Realme 6 Pro, we think it makes good sense to pick this one instead. It isn’t a clear-cut winner because it doesn’t have an AMOLED display, which is something we prefer about the X2. However, other than that, the 6 Pro is either equal to or better than the X2 in pretty much every way. It has a slightly bigger battery, a more premium look, more useful secondary cameras for the rear, and front and a more modern processor.

Realme is emerging to be a significant brand in the industry of new-age gadgets like smartphones, fitness bands, bags, earpods, and many more. The Chinese manufacturing giant brings out new and advanced devices almost frequently.

The smartphone also boasts of a premium audio output with the Dolby Atmos ables speakers. The sound quality is high-end, but it can be a little distorted at the highest volume.

Realme XT – A Bring-It-Out-For-Holiday Camera Phone

Admit it. We still desire to own an iPhone; we won’t want to be seen carrying a cheap phone while having drink session with friends. However, running the risk of losing their over-priced iPhone during vacation is like “Ouch”. It is no secret that most of us carry more than 1 device– one for “work” and a second one for practical use.

Here, we got our hands on the new realme XT. One of the key highlights of the phone is its quad-camera. Yes you heard it right. This phone is packed with not 2, not 3 but 4 rear camera and that is against the triple camera of the iPhone 11. The 64 MP image sensor by Samsung, which realme claimed that it is the highest resolution image sensor in the smartphone market, could shoot ultra-high-resolution photo that is equivalent to the size of a 3.2m X 2.4m poster print-out.

Supreme Camera Specs

Wow… The technical specs do look good on paper. But more camera does not mean anything? How about the overall image quality?  We challenged the phone to take night scene of our beautiful Singapore city. The 64MP camera sensor produces reasonable clear, crisp landscape photo even under low light condition. Below is the sample photo of the night scene shot with the 64 MP sensor.

Night shot has always a challenge for camera phone. If we zoomed into the night scene photo, we observe some “noise” on the background. However, the building names are captured reasonably well by 64MP sensor under challenging city lightning.  

We have also tested the night mode. The sensor manages to snap the photo within 3 seconds. The image is quite impressive, and its algorithm manages to brighten the dark parts of the photo. For instance, we captured the red hook of the crane in the photo with the night mode turned on.

Limited Internal Storage

As a relatively new brand, realme XT’s camera performance has surprised us. The 64MP image sensor is very appealing to smartphone users. However, The image size shot at 64MP could be as high as 12MB and that is significantly larger than normal (one 64MP image is about 5 times more than the usual image size).

The 128GB internal storage may not be enough for users who love to take pictures with their smartphones. Fortunately, the realme XT has included external microSD slot that could allow user to store additional 256GB.

Camera is good but what else?

I know this may not be relevant as the customer moves towards wireless earpiece. Who still expect to get complimentary earphone when unboxing a new phone? But still, we may want to bring along our favourite headset when we are out for vacation. The option to connect via the legacy 3.5mm audio jack is still more favourable. Well, you can argue that we could bring an additional 3.5mm-to-Type C adaptor. I am on vacation. I just want to bring the minimal.

It has in-display fingerprint sensor which works reasonably fast and the ColorOS by OPPO gives a very clean Android interface which makes the navigation within the OS very pleasing.

Verdict

This OPPO’s spinoff brand has surprised me. In terms of performance, the phone does deliver what most consumers want but at the fraction of the price of high-end models in the market. Camera performance is very decent for the price point.  

I do carry a handful of phones out for work purposes, but I always have the tendency to use the realme XT for street and food photography. The attractive price tag on realme XT is appealing to frequent travellers who might afraid of losing their “work” phone (yes I am refering to your iPhone) while traveling. The realme XT could save your travel photo in the old school micro-SD card and you don’t need to rely on internet access to backup your photo and this is especially useful when you visit countries where internet accessibility is poor.
