Had to get blood work done, scheduled an appointment for last Thursday, get there at like noon and find out the doctor ordered a test that had to be done between 7 and 9 and no one thought to tell me.
Whatever, rescheduled for today. I had to fast again but now I'm in another bout of gut issues™ that mean I couldn't take my anxiety meds on an empty stomach, bc I will barf blood about it.
Arrive go through check in and everythings good to go, Immediate sobbing panic attack as soon as the needle is in. Nurse can't get the draw to work and there's no chance of me being able to calm enough for a second stick to go any better.
Wish me luck for the third try in another week. I do not plan to be sober at it.

well, i really wanted to be able to show you guys my bookbind progress cos i HAD planned on cutting and punching my test textblock today, but guess what!!!!
I DIDN'T CHECK THE RIGHT OPTION FOR FLIP-SIDE ON THE LIBRARY PRINTER SO ALL FOUR OF MY FUCKING COPIES ARE ALIGNED WRONG!!!! THEY MUST HAVE BEEN SET TO FLIP ON THE LONG-EDGE AND MY SIGNATURES WERE SET TO FLIP ON SHORT-EDGE......
i found this out by cutting my test block and then spending a good 20 minutes absolutely fucking BAFFLED OUTTA MY GOURD cos none of the pages are consecutive

Probably going to print out my text block today. Here’s some comparisons to the first one I bound. The first time I was intentionally trying to make it as short as possible with little text and small margins so I was dealing with fewer signatures. This is over 100 pages longer (150 ish -> 280 ish) but (I think) looks more similar to a “real” hardcover typeset.
Debating just printing it on regular printer paper because I can’t find letter sized paper in the right color and weight that won’t require trimming and I’m not sure I’m ready to drop $50 on the right paper. Though for 1000 sheets it’s not a bad price for specialty paper.

A demand for honesty about where we humans stand in the world we’ve made lives at the core of the simplest poem by Jane Hirshfield. That is, nothing is ever simple. But her way of expressing this remains captivating in its clarity. This one is from her 2020 collection Ledger.
A Ream of Paper
I have a ream of paper, a cartridge of ink,
almonds, coffee, a wool scarf for warmth.
Whatever handcuffs the soul, I have brought here.
Whatever distances the heart, I have brought here.
A deer rises onto her haunches to reach for an apple,
though many fallen apples are on the ground.

so the thing with the printer is that you can see the current/previous job so I KNOW exactly who it was that left the printer with their job half finished and the photocopier with no paper in it 🙃
