This box of Tau Sar Piah (豆沙饼) I bought from Mei Kee Bakery (美記餅家) at Yishun Bus Interchange. Coffee Tau Sar Piah (咖啡豆沙饼) – Imagine the classic flavours of savoury tau sar piah with hints of coffee infused within the mung bean paste. Not outstanding but still nice to see something was done to refresh a classic with new flavours.
Shrimp Tau Sar Piah (虾米豆沙饼) – First time I came across bean paste biscuits mixed with Hae Bee Hiam (Dried Shrimps Spicy Sambal). My mind visualized a weird tasting tau sar piah but on the first bite, my palates registered a pleasant combination of light spicy umaminess mixed with the classic salty bean paste. I must say, I really enjoy the snack.
Red Bean Tau Sar Piah (红豆豆沙饼) – Just the familiar black coloured red bean paste filled tau sar piah. I know my colleague would love this one. S$1 for each of the flavour but the seller charged me S$5 for 6 pieces.

Record of Food & Snacks
Red bean pancake 满煎糕 - their version comes with a mix of red bean, peanuts, sesame, and bits of candied melon or fruit - ate 3x
Popiah roll (not sure what it’s called) - seaweeed, carrots, peanuts, sugar and spotted a small oyster - ate 3x
Mian xian hu / Mian xian (had this a few times) from Ye Po Po / Gong Gong and the store right opposite my hostel.
Ate a hot, freshly-made bean cake - it’s soft and mushy when fresh, and really yummy. Think the filling is green and yellow bean. I much prefer this to tau sar piah which i don’t really eat.
Meat bao with thin layer of meat and gravy filling that drips out and soft fluffy bao pastry outside
Roti-prata like flaky crepe that is produced as a large sheet and gets cut into small rectangle pieces when you order - there’s some chilli powder on it i think. Salty and yummy when hot!
Black herbal chicken soup 炖汤 and oyster omelette with chilli dip from Jian Lai Fa restaurant.

Sweet Tau Sar with Melon Seeds (瓜子甜豆沙) - Sweet mung bean filling is enhanced with crunchy melon seeds for a smooth and fragrant treat. The crispy flaky pastry skin and the melon seeds gave this snack an added crunchy texture.
Teochew Double Delight (州双拼) - Delight in a unique combination of red bean paste filling and a “crystal” filling of winter melon seeds, citrus stripes, white sesame seeds and glutinous rice flour. I don’t really appreciate the chewy mochi texture of the glutinous rice in the filling so this one is my least favourite flavour among the four mooncakes.
Salty Tau Sar with Salted Egg Yolk (咸豆沙蛋黄) - The all-time favourite salty tau sar filling is complemented with salted egg yolk, for a fragrant and satisfying delight. Your classic tau sar piah sold at a premium price.

Sis bought these snacks from Tai Chong Kok Confectionery (大中国饼家) at Northpoint City. From the left, Walnut Yolk Puffs ($2.50 each) with whole salted egg yolk encased in sweet lotus seed paste and pastry, then studded with walnuts. In the middle, Red Bean Paste Pastries (S$1.20 each) and lastly, Savoury Tau Sar Piahs (S$1 each) with its salty sweet green bean paste filling that melts in the mouth with the fragrance of shallot oil.
