Organized annually by Takashimaya Shopping Centre (髙島屋) the Mid-Autumn Festive Celebration Mooncake Fair is the largest of its kind in Singapore. This year it is held from 24th August to 29th September 2023. As usual, it attracted throngs of people browsing, buying or just to sample the mooncakes.

Peony Jade Restaurant (玉河畔) has on display a whole showcase of mooncakes from traditional baked ones to deep fried Teochew flaky types and durian snowskin mooncakes. It also came in adorable animal shapes like rabbit and pig.

Swatow Seafood Restaurant (汕头海鲜) has a beautiful Flaky Teochew Custard Blossom Delight (潮州荷花酥) shaped like a blooming flower featuring luscious custard, “yuan-yang” paste (a delightful blend of red and black bean paste), and signature “orh-nee” yam paste. The Galaxy’s Eight Delights (八星伴月礼篮) featured a set of Mini Flaky Mooncakes adorned with colourful cosmos flaky skin.

After trying out the mooncake series from @yuaifood, I fell in love with the taste as they are fresh, not too sweet-- great for the more health conscious crowd. Sis bought this imported White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk (美心蛋黄白莲蓉月饼) from Hong Kong MX (香港美心月饼) at S$68 for a box of 4s. The filling inside is the classic white lotus seed paste and salted egg yolk, one yolk lesser than last year.

The knife sliced into the White Lotus Seed Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk with ease; at that moment I knew the lotus seed paste is going to be smooth and soft. Lifting up the mooncake, oil from the salted yolk had seeped out from the bottom. Taking a bite, the lotus seed paste is velvety smooth and slightly sweet for my family but the egg yolk had these lumps of hardness likely resulted from the baking process at the time of preparation. Well, that is all I have for this year mooncakes. Until next mid-autumn festival comes around with more offerings of the sweet treats. :D
