my parents were forced to buy me a new (refurbished) phone because my current one is an iphone 6s and apparently actual mobile support and functionality ended for that one forever ago……
i don’t even want a new one but i need a phone number to give people and institutions that actually belongs to me so i can get modern adult things done and benefit from what little infrastructure this country has
i’m not complaining, i just feel bad that they had to go through the effort

Note
The iPhone 6s is the last iPhone that was sold with a headphone jack and you can’t even get that iPhone on most refurbished sites any more. It’s apple’s attempt to make everyone dependent on their own products.

Got my things stolen and can’t remember what model to replace my ipad from, it was Apple Pencil 1st gen compatible. Thank you wizard
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(2016) iPad Pro 9.7” OR (2017) iPad Pro 10.5”
Below the cut are my opinions on a replacement iPad, the information i used to figure out what model you had, and also Apple’s weird rose gold phase. rip the rose gold colorway, 2015-2020
iPad shopping advice—
I do not recommend buying a refurbished 2016 iPad Pro, while not technically obsolete, iPadOS 16 is no longer receiving active support— security updates are still being pushed out but Apple tends to only provide those for another one or two years unless a zero-day vulnerability is found. (iPadOS 16’s active support expired a year ago, for further context)
I can’t in good faith recommend buying a refurbished 2017 iPad Pro, it currently operates on the latest OS (iPadOS 17), however that’s likely to be its last core update in its lifetime— it turns 7 years old this year (a typical lifespan for an iPad is 5-6 years), iPadOS 17 has less than a year of active support left with iOS & iPadOS 18 slated for September 2024… however, the prices look good if you can find one from a reliable seller.
I have two recommendations for replacement*
Refurbished** iPad Air (2020) 256gb
Runs iPadOS 17 and will be receiving core updates for another 2-3 years minimum
Support for up to 5 Gbps over USB-C support (which means support for external storage devices)
Support for the Apple Pencil (2nd Gen) and Apple Pencil (USB-C)***
Smaller bezels; the home button is removed and TouchID is on the power button
Support for a external mirrored display
Support for Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth 5.0
5G LTE support if you’re into that sort of thing (cellular models do cost extra)
iPad 10th Gen (2022) 256gb
Runs iPadOS 17 and will be receiving core updates for the next 4-5 years minimum
Support for USB-C with speeds of USB 2.0
Front-facing camera is horizontal (which is the reason for the next point)
Support for Apple Pencil (1st Gen w/ Adapter) or Apple Pencil (USB-C)***
Smaller bezels; bigger screen, TouchID on power button
Support for an external mirrored display
Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth 5.2 support
Cellular models equipped with 5G support
*Only if you need an iPad before March or April of this year. For the first time since 2010, Apple skipped a year in iPad refreshes. Mark Gurman predicts that new iPads will be released by the end of March. The 6th Gen iPad Air is rumored to be receiving a pretty large facelift— likely slashing the price of the 5th Gen Air. The iPad Air is widely considered to be the best price-to-performance option from the iPad family.
**I recommend checking out open box pricing for the latest generation iPads before making a decision. If possible, hit up a BestBuy or Microcenter so you can look at open box devices in person. Only buy refurbished devices from trusted sources; I recommend Amazon Refurbished or Geeksquad Refurbished.
***the Apple Pencil (USB-C) does not support pen pressure on any iPad model. The Apple Pencil (2nd Gen) is the most feature-rich model to date, read more here.
as both these iPads run the same processor, here are the benchmarks from CPU Monkey for the A10X Fusion (IPP2017) vs. A14 Bionic (IPA2020)
And the insane amount of information I know about Apple’s rose gold phase that led me to what iPad you have:
Apple introduced the rose gold colorway in 2015 with the launch of the iPhone 6s, and the phasing out started with the release of the iPhone 8 in 2017, replacing rose gold with just plain gold. That’s the timeframe for our rose gold iPad— and there were only six iPads launched between 2015-2017. This assumption is further supported by the launch of the Apple Pencil in late 2015 and the eventual launch of the the smaller 9.7” iPad Pro in 2016, which came in the standard space gray, silver, and gold, but was also released in one extra color: rose gold. The rose gold colorway in the iPad lineup was exclusive to the smaller IPP 1 & 2 until 2020 (see “Other Apple products…”). Additionally, the visible sides of the iPad suggest it’s from the “tapered unibody” MacBook era— specifically the “rounded edges” or “squircle” era, when all iPads fit awkwardly into folio cases if they weren’t made by Apple. The iPad that received a rose gold colorway in 2020 is of the “squared edges” era, thus ruling it out entirely.
Other Apple products that saw a brief rose gold colorway:
Retired from the Apple Watch lineup in 2017
Retired from the MacBook lineup in 2018
Retired from the iPhone lineup in 2017
Retired from the iPad Pro lineup in 2018
Added to the iPad Air lineup in 2020 and then immediately replaced by pink following the next release
Apple recently has introduced the pink colorway into its products as it delves more into the colorful side of tech again. Things you can buy in pink from Apple if you want to stay on theme:
iPhone 13, 15
iPhone 15 Plus
iPad 10th Gen (2022)
iPad Air (2022)
Apple Watch Series 9

Is the Used iPhone 12 Still Worth Buying in 2023? A Comprehensive Analysis
Tumblr media
The iPhone 12, released in October 2020, was a significant milestone in Apple's smartphone lineup. It introduced several notable features, including 5G connectivity, the A14 Bionic chip, and a refreshed design. As technology evolves rapidly, potential buyers may wonder if the iPhone 12 is still worth investment in 2023, especially considering a used or refurbished device. This comprehensive analysis will delve into various aspects of the iPhone 12 to help you determine whether it remains a compelling choice two years after its initial release.
I. Hardware and Performance
The iPhone 12's hardware and performance are still impressive in 2023. Its A14 Bionic chip, coupled with 4GB of RAM, ensures smooth and responsive operation. While newer iPhone models have been released since the iPhone 12, the differences in everyday performance are marginal for most users.
Performance: The A14 chip remains a powerhouse, capable of handling demanding tasks like gaming, video editing, and multitasking with ease. Apps load quickly, and the phone feels snappy in everyday use.
5G Connectivity: The iPhone 12's 5G capability is a significant advantage, especially if you're in an area with robust 5G coverage. It ensures faster download and upload speeds, enhancing your overall mobile experience.
Camera: The iPhone 12 features a dual-camera system with a 12-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. While it may not offer the advanced camera features in the latest iPhone models, it still captures excellent photos and videos in various lighting conditions.
II. Software Updates and Longevity
Apple's commitment to providing software updates for its devices ensures that the iPhone 12 remains relevant in 2023. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, the iPhone 6s, released in 2015, still received iOS updates. Therefore, expecting the iPhone 12 to receive iOS updates for several more years is reasonable.
iOS Updates: The iPhone 12 launched with iOS 14 and is compatible with iOS 15, which means it's likely to receive updates until at least iOS 16 or beyond. This extended software support ensures your device stays secure and benefits from new features.
App Compatibility: App developers tend to support older iPhone models for an extended period. Therefore, you can expect the iPhone 12 to run the latest apps and receive updates for the foreseeable future.
III. Design and Build Quality
The iPhone 12's design is timeless and continues to impress in 2023. Its glass and aluminum build exudes a premium feel, and the Ceramic Shield front cover provides improved durability.
Display: The iPhone 12 features a Super Retina XDR OLED display with HDR support. It offers vibrant colors, deep blacks, and excellent contrast. The 6.1-inch size strikes a balance between usability and portability.
Build: The iPhone 12's build quality is top-notch, and its IP68 water and dust resistance rating adds to its durability.
IV. Battery Life
Battery life is a crucial consideration when evaluating the worth of a smartphone. The iPhone 12 offers respectable battery life, but it's essential to remember that battery health may vary in used devices. Here are some battery-related aspects to consider:
Battery Health: The iPhone's battery health degrades over time, affecting its capacity and overall runtime. When buying a used iPhone 12, inquire about the battery health percentage. If it's significantly degraded, you may need to replace the battery for optimal performance.
Battery Optimization: iOS includes features like "Optimized Battery Charging" to extend battery lifespan. Ensure these features are enabled to maximize your iPhone 12's battery longevity.
V. Camera Capabilities
The iPhone 12's camera system can still deliver high-quality photos and videos. While it may not have the advanced computational photography features of the latest models, it can capture stunning shots in various conditions.
Night Mode: The iPhone 12 introduced Night Mode, allowing you to capture impressive low-light photos. It remains a valuable feature for nighttime photography.
Computational Photography: While newer iPhones may offer more advanced computational photography features, the iPhone 12's camera system is no slouch. It can still produce excellent results in terms of image processing.
VI. Price and Value
One of the most compelling reasons to consider a used iPhone 12 in 2023 is its price-to-performance ratio. While newer iPhone models command premium prices, the iPhone 12 offers a well-balanced blend of features and affordability in the used market.
Cost Savings: Used iPhone 12 models are available at significantly lower prices than their original retail cost. This makes it an attractive option for those looking to upgrade without breaking the bank.
Resale Value: iPhones typically retain their value well, so investing in a used iPhone 12 will likely hold its value better than many other smartphones.
VII. Accessories and Ecosystem
The iPhone 12 benefits from Apple's extensive ecosystem of accessories and services. This ecosystem enhances the overall user experience and adds value to the device.
Compatibility: The iPhone 12 is compatible with various accessories, including cases, chargers, and wireless headphones. You can easily find accessories that suit your preferences and needs.
Integration: Apple's ecosystem seamlessly integrates with other devices, such as MacBooks, iPads, Apple Watch, and AirPods. This synergy enhances productivity and convenience.
VIII. Personal Preferences and Use Cases
Whether the used iPhone 12 is worth buying in 2023 depends on your preferences and specific use cases. Here are some factors to consider:
Priorities: What features are most important to you? If you prioritize performance, reliability, and a great display, the iPhone 12 is an excellent choice.
Budget: Your budget plays a significant role. If you're looking for an iPhone with a lower price point while still delivering a premium experience, the iPhone 12 fits the bill.
Length of Ownership: Consider how long you plan to keep the phone. If you intend to upgrade within a year or two, the iPhone 12's longevity and performance should serve you well.
Future-Proofing: If you want the latest and greatest features and don't mind investing in a newer model, you might opt for a more recent iPhone. However, the iPhone 12 is still a capable device that can meet the needs of many users.
In conclusion, the used iPhone 12 remains a compelling choice in 2023 for many buyers. Its powerful hardware, software longevity, impressive camera capabilities, and attractive price point make it a worthy investment. While it may not have the latest features in newer iPhone models, it offers an excellent balance of performance and value.
When considering a used iPhone 12, assess the device's condition, battery health, and price to ensure a good deal. With proper care, the iPhone 12 can continue to provide a premium smartphone experience for years. Ultimately, your decision should align with your preferences, needs, and budget, but the iPhone 12 is a testament to Apple's commitment to creating lasting and high-performing devices.

Do Refurbished Phones Have The Same Quality As New?
When you buy a refurbished phone, you’re getting a phone that has been used but is still in good condition. Refurbished phones usually have the same quality as new phones. In addition, refurbished phones are usually cheaper than new ones because they don’t have to go through the expensive manufacturing process and ship a new phone.
Refurbished phones usually come with warranty coverage, just like new phones. So if there’s any problem with the phone, you can get it fixed or replaced without having to pay extra.
What To Look For When Buying A Refurbished Phone?
When shopping for a refurbished phone, you should keep a few things in mind.
Make sure to check the condition of the phone. It should be in good condition, with no cracks or damage. Next, ensure the phone is working and has all its original features.
Be sure to compare prices. For example, sometimes it’s cheaper to buy a refurbished phone than to buy a new phone brand new.
Be sure to get a warranty on the phone. This will give you peace of mind if something goes wrong with the phone.
Buying secondhand iPhones can be a great way to get a new phone without spending much money. OZMobiles is inevitably one of the best places to buy refurbished phones. This store offers a wide range of refurbished phones, from unlocked phones to iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. In addition, the prices at OZMobiles are very competitive. So if you want to buy a secondhand iPhone but don’t want to spend much money, consider buying a refurbished phone from OZMobiles.

Both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were launched in September 2014. These both are the best selling models of the iPhone. Presently, Apple stopped selling brand new iPhone 6 and 6 plus, but you can buy their refurbished counterpart from third-party vendors.
Some people think that refurbished phones are old and faulty products, this is not true. These are those phones which are returned to the manufacturer due to minor malfunctioning or software failure. Then they are tested by the quality control engineers, and after that, all the technical faults are fixed and repaired. After complete conditioning, these phones were kept in stores for resale. Many third-party dealers also sell refurbished iPhone 6 and 6 plus at very affordable prices. But verify the dealer before cracking the final deal and check the reviews about him on the internet.
The refurbished iPhone 6 and 6 Plus comes with a one year Apple warranty, and they work the same as the new models. Both of them come with excellent battery life, good processing speed, high-quality cameras, and improved Wi-Fi connectivity. They are free from any software or hardware related defects. If you want to save money, it is best to go with these refurbished iPhones.
Now let us discuss the key features of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.
Key Features of iPhone 6 and 6 plus:
Technology
Both iPhone 6 and 6 plus works on 4G LTE networks and allows you to browse and download the files at an optimum speed. They are available with CDMA as well as GSM support. But once the CDMA iPhone 6 or 6 Plus is unlocked, you cannot use them for CDMA networks. They are available in four models; A1549, A1522, A1586, and A1524.
Outer Shell
The outer shell of both models of the iPhone 6 comes with rounded edges instead of sharp squared edges. The design of the iPhone 6 is similar to iPad Air. The back cover of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is of aluminum, with two plastic strips for the antennas. These iPhone models are available in pink, silver, gold, and space grey colors. The thickness of the iPhone 6 is 0.27 inches, whereas the iPhone plus is 0.1 inches thicker than it. The outer body of both phones is sturdy enough to resist jerks and shocks.
Display
There is a big difference between the display of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. iPhone 6 features a 4.7" LCD screen, and its resolution has a "2X" resolution, i.e., 1334X740. On the other hand iPhone 6 plus features a 5.5" widescreen and has a "3X" resolution, i.e., 1920X1080.
Also, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus do not need additional screen protectors because they both come with iron-strengthened Gorilla glass. This glass provides necessary protection to the screen from scratches and breakage.
If you want to run a widescreen phone, you should buy a refurbished iPhone 6 Plus; otherwise, the refurbished iPhone 6 would be fine.
Operating System
Talking about iPhone 6 and 6 Plus's operating systems, both of them support iOS 8 and can be upgraded up to iOS 12.4.6.
Memory
iPhone 6 and 6 plus are available in 4 different storage options; 16 GB, 64 GB, 32, and 128 GB, and all these three storage spaces complemented with 1 GB RAM. Choosing between them can be very confusing. The price of the iPhone goes high as the storage space increases. For low budget buyers, it would be better to go with a 16 GB storage option and use iCloud storage services.
Processor
The processing speed of the iPhone 6 and 6 plus is around 280 Mbps. They feature the Apple A8 processor, whose operating frequency is 1.4 GHz. It's a dual-core processor that supports 802.11 ac wireless standards.
Camera
Both these iPhone models' front camera is of 8 megapixels, whereas the selfie camera is of 1.2 megapixels. The aperture size of the rear and back camera is f/2.2 wide. But the image quality of the iPhone 6 plus is better than the iPhone 6 because the iPhone 6 plus model comes with optical image stabilization technology. And it makes the picture more alluring and attractive.
Battery
The iPhone 6 Plus battery is much larger than the iPhone 6. These both consist of non-removable batteries. The iPhone 6 comes with Li-Po 1810 mAh battery, and iPhone 6 Plus comes with Li-Po 2915 mAh battery. The iPhone 6 plus battery has a slightly longer life than iPhone 6.
In Final Words
Both iPhone 6 and 6 plus possess almost the same features. The only difference is between their screen size, camera quality, and battery life. The above points can help you to choose between the iPhone 6 and 6 plus.

the saga of saphs terrible, horrible internet
so my friends and fellow romans, as some of you may know, i am currently at home while i wait to go galavant off to the other side of the globe for my study abroad. being at home presents a great many challenges that i will not get into at this time, but the top one is the internet connection.
now i am the proud owner of a 2017 macbook and an iphone se. the macbook was bought refurbished 3.5 years ago and the phone was bought new last august when my iphone 6s finally crapped out 2 weeks into junior year of college. i take....decent care of my electronics. and, this is an important detail here, the phone has an unlimited data plan.
i have never had a problem with this phone. it works great, occasionally it buffers in certain spots on campus that are kind of dead zones due to the buildings being massive blocks of concrete, but it always works, even despite the shitty school wifi i have because i can turn the wifi off and use data. the computer hates the wifi a little more, but i can still usually get it to work with minimal issues.
until now *cue dramatic music*
i have to be at home (my parents house) for a grand total of 18 days. which is not very long. and while at home i had some stuff to do, all of which required me to have an internet connection (fighting the financial aid office, talking to brad, researching grad school, purchasing textbooks, buying the last couple things i need for my trip, etc). i have also had to be in quarantine (long story) so essentially i have been confined to my room.
the internet has always been a little bit meh in my room, with certain spots not working the best (due to the fact that i am furthest from the router) but this is the same room that i took zoom classes from for 2.5 semesters, plus a summer class and a j term class with 0 issues, so i was confident i could make it work.
well. i was wrong.
the first two days went fairly normally. but then, a steady and rapid decrease in internet quality began.
and yes, i am aware that me complaining about internet quality is a very first world problem, but i am stuck in a house with my parents and it is miserable and i just want to facetime brad.
on day three i became unable to send a text message unless i was connected to wifi.
on day 4 i could only connect to wifi if i was standing in one specific spot in my bedroom and even then it didnt always work and would usually drop off by the time i walked back across the room
on day 5 facetime stopped working
on day 6 even standing directly next to the router didnt do anything and plugging into our sole ethernet cable only provided me with mediocre internet
on day 7 i had a mental breakdown and watched youtube all day at 144p complete with buffering that added a good 10-20 minutes to any video.
on day 8 i told my dad that in my deeply unprofessional opinion something is deeply wrong with our router and he said well its just cause your room is far away from it
on day 9 (today) i walked downstairs to get my up of tea in my big christmas tree mug and my dad said "our internet is being very slow, i am going to have to look into it"
oh
wait
you mean
to tell me
that the internet
isnt working?
golly goodness gosh
i didnt know
its not like it took 3 minutes for the blank post im writing right now to load and 30 minutes for a 10 minute youtube video to load and that i get kicked off the wifi if i so much as tilt my phone slightly to the left
its a miracle i havent gone insane yet i swear
