so I decided to make timeline of @magebunkshelf Mitch's world universe the timeline and notes about it will be under the read more if you want to look
-7 centuries away from current day, Raban is born.
couple centuries later, Aru is born. within this period the Renaru village myth forms.
a few decades before moth 1, kitsune 1, 2 and 3 happens
sept 8 1995 - moth listener is captured by the facility sept 9 1995 - moth 1 sept 22 1995 - moth is released from the facility sept 22 - 23 1995 - moth 2 & 3
feb 4 1996 - Foreman sends a request to the director to look into the moon.
dec 14 1997 - foreman records an apparition linked with the moon
1998 - foreman focuses a lot on the moon.
aug 7 1998 - foreman is reported dead. we do not know how foreman died.
sept 27 2004 - C finds something in the apparition recording that wasn't in Foreman's report
early 2010 - lunar mission Lauren Ipsum also writes an article of a volcanic eruption
before current times [not necessarily in order.] Mitch takes in Hami Lochlan leaves the lake mitch and Hami seperate 9 years before vampre hunter 1 - Bats becomes a vampire
current times [will be some guessing] wild foxboy 1 werewolf listener 1 mitch 1 mitch 2 mitch 3 shark guy 1 incubus 1 old vamp 1 old vamp 2 mitch 4 neko listener 1 incubus 2 shark guy 2 mitch 5 incubus 3 incubus 4 merman 1 merman 2 feral vamp becomes a vamp Lauren Ipsum dies merman 3 vamp hunter 1 vamp hunter 2 & 3 fallen angel 1 vamp hunter 4 mitch 6 mitch & nem minisode dragon village discovered the moon moves closer to the earth neko listener 2
10 years after current day - dragon boy series
notes due to not having an exact period when aru was born, I decided to place Aru second on the timeline. vampire hunter series is pretty late in the timeline due to vamp hunt 5 being the lead in to phase 3 of the world as what Mage has said. so putting it later in the timeline in case other characters show up in vamp hunt 5. old vampire series can be placed where ever honestly. the siren audio can be placed where ever in the timeline. it's impossible to know exactly when the facility had Not contained. feral vamp being converted could also be placed where ever.

The Voice sure does know how to go out with a bang! As the reality competition show draws to the close of its 24th season, the Emmy-winning program has announced its star-studded lineup for its finale episode, which is set to air on NBC's Dec. 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
2024 Grammy nominees Jelly Roll and Tyla are set to take The Voice stage to commemorate the season 24 finale, alongside performances from Earth, Wind & Fire, AJR, Keith Urban and season 25 coaches Dan + Shay. The intergenerational genre-spanning lineup will play a collection of songs that combine major moments in their respective careers, the dominant songs and styles of 2023 and their latest releases.
Jelly Roll, a four-time 2023 Billboard Music Awards finalist, will perform his Grammy-nominated Lainey Wilson-assisted "Save Me," the second single from his chart-topping album Whitsitt Chapel. Amapiano/Afropop star Tyla will perform "Water," her breakout single, which recently hit the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 ahead of the release of her forthcoming debut studio album.
Music legends Earth, Wind & Fire will perform a career-spanning medley that previews the band's upcoming Heart & Soul 2024 Tour, which they are co-headlining with Chicago. Another genre-fusing band, AJR, will perform a medley of its hit single "Bang!" and "Yes I'm a Mess," which hit No. 28 on Rock Airplay this year.
Keith Urban, a four-time Grammy winner who previously served as a judge on American Idol and a coach on the Australian version of The Voice, will perform "Blue Ain't Your Color," his 2016 hit single which ranked at No. 9 on Billboard's Decade-End U.S. Hot Country Songs (2010-2019). Another superstar country act, Dan + Shay, will grace the stage with a performance of "Bigger Houses," the title track from their most recent LP.
In addition to these eye-popping guests, The Voice has even more performances in store for the season 24 finale. Season 22 winner Bryce Leatherwood will return to perform "The Finger," a single from his forthcoming project. Furthermore, this season's top 12 artists will band together for a special joint performance. In that spirit, this year's coaching panel - Niall Horan, John Legend, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani - will join forces for a bubbly rendition of "Let It Snow."
This season marks the first in which none of the show's original coaches - Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and CeeLo Green - from the series' inaugural season appear on the coaching panel. Shelton departed after last season, which saw One Direction alum Niall Horan emerge victorious.

Gigi Jordan, the millionaire pharmaceutical executive convicted of manslaughter in the death of her 8-year-old son, committed suicide by putting a plastic bag over her head filled with nitrogen gas, the city’s medical examiner’s office said Wednesday.
Jordan, 62, was found dead inside her Brooklyn apartment at around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 30 — just hours after US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor issued an order that was expected to send her back to prison.
The NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death a suicide on Wednesday. And said the cause was: “Asphyxia by covering of head with plastic bag and displacement of oxygen by nitrogen gas.”
It came more than a decade after Jordan was accused of force-feeding her autistic son, Jude Mirra, a lethal dose of pills in February 2010 inside a luxury suite at the Peninsula Hotel.
Jordan admitted she killed her autistic son, Jude Mirra, with pills.Gregory P. Mango
During a six-week trial, the mom’s defense argued she killed the boy because she feared her ex-husband was about to murder the boy.
A Manhattan jury acquitted her of the top murder count, but found Jordan guilty of manslaughter in 2014.
Jordan was sentenced to 18 years in prison — but a federal judge tossed her conviction in 2020 over a procedural misstep.
Jordan was sprung from prison Dec. 9, 2020, after serving more than 10 years of her sentence. At the time, a federal judge ordered her released to home confinement on a $250,000 bond as her case played out.
The day before she was found dead, Sotomayor issued the order reversing a previous one from Dec. 20 allowing her to remain free on bail while the high court weighed her appeal.
If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts or are experiencing a mental health crisis and live in New York City, you can call 1-888-NYC-WELL for free and confidential crisis counseling. If you live outside the five boroughs, you can dial the 24/7 National Suicide Prevention hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or go to SuicidePreventionLifeline.org.

James Wan is an Australian film producer, screenwriter and director of some of the highest grossing box office hits including the Saw (2004), Dead Silence (2007), Death Sentence (2007), Insidious (2010), The Conjuring (2013), among others.
Wan, who was born in 1977 of Malaysian Chinese descent, was raised in Australia. He graduated from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's degree in 1999. He has been described as “high spirited and a quick-talker, who is used to being the Underdog” (Itzkoff, 2018), and one who has found early success co-directing the “genre-defining” 2004 horror film, “The Saw”.
In Wan’s early days of his career, along with co-writer Leigh Whannell, together, they began writing a script that was inspired from their personal dreams and fears. With basically no budget, they created the film with Whannell and a few other stand-in actors starring in the film. This excerpt from the film later became known as, “The Saw” and began a vast and impressive career in the Supernatural genre of Horror filmmaking. According to Itzkoff, Wan struggled for a decade to produce a follow up film, but approximately 10 years later, Insidious, and The Conjuring, rocked the Hollywood Blockbuster scene.
Peter Safran, Wan’s co-producing partner on the Conjuring film, envisioned the success of the Conjuring film prior to its release, claiming that the film “captured lightning in a bottle”. In fact, “The Conjuring” franchise went on to gross over 2 billion dollars in revenues thereby confirming Safran’s prediction.
Rolling Stone cited James Wan’s film, “Insidious”, as, “creating crazy levels of suspense from the first frame, that do not let up until the credits roll”. When interviewed by Rolling Stone, James Wan expressed concern about being “put in a box” by critics and horror show enthusiast’s. Wan responded that he “created “The Saw” for a calculated purpose; “to get people’s attention”. He goes on to say that he “is a “huge fan of tension, he likes to let fans use their imagination in his films, and prefers not to rely on the shock of blood and guts to get the audience's attention”. For this reason, Wan went on to direct other thrillers which utilize alternative captivating techniques and story storylines.
Although some critics have been harsh in their opinions of James Wan’s horror making capabilities, his success in the Horror Film genre is undeniable as evidenced by his popularity, his financial prowess, and most importantly the effect his work has had on the supernatural Horror Movie genre. In January of 2023, he was coined, “The King of Contemporary Horror” (Caiole, P., (2023) across multiple horror projects and various roles as director, writer, and producer, Caiole adds that “he has defined and shaped the genre since the early 2000’s” and into the 2010’s and beyond”. Wan is expected to continue directing and entertaining audiences of the supernatural horror genre; his most recent film, Night Swim, debuted on screens in 2024, and grossed 54 million.

Locked out of local government: Residents decry increased secrecy among towns, counties, schools

Cheryl Geidner figured council members in Volant, a tiny borough north of Pittsburgh, would adopt a preliminary year-end budget despite no discussions at public meetings on the proposed financials.
She never figured they’d raise property taxes by 57%.
“There had never been a mention of that,” said Geidner, a property owner who helps oversee a business with her husband, John, in the town of 126 residents. “You didn’t see the budget. You didn’t see the ordinance. I think everybody was somewhat taken aback.”
The plan, given final approval last week, will steeply increase tax bills: A property assessed at $100,000, for example, would have been billed $700 in 2023. In 2024, that bill will rise to $1,100.
The council’s silence leading up to the decision highlights what some observers say is a striking trend toward secrecy among local governments across the U.S. From school districts to townships and county boards, public access to records and meetings in many states is worsening over time, open government advocates and experts say.
“It’s been going on for decades, really, but it’s accelerated the past 10 years,” said David Cuillier, director of the Joseph L. Brechner Freedom of Information Project at the University of Florida.
WESA Inbox Edition Newsletter
Start your morning with today's news on Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania.
Few states compile data on public records requests, and laws governing open records differ by state, making a comprehensive analysis difficult. However, a review by Cuillier of data provided by MuckRock — a nonprofit news site that files and shares public records requests – found that between 2010 and 2021, local governments’ compliance with records requests dropped from 63% to 42%.
High fees, delays and outright refusals from local governments to release information are among the common complaints.
Examples are plentiful.
Earlier this year, officials in a suburban Chicago community ticketed a local journalist for what they said were repeated attempts to contact city officials seeking comment on treacherous fall flooding. Officials reversed and dropped the citations days later.
In November, open government advocates in California sued the city of Fresno for allegedly conducting secret budget negotiations for years.
In October, residents of Sapelo Island in Georgia, who largely rely on a ferry to get to the mainland, accused county officials of making it difficult for residents to attend important public meetings by scheduling them after the last ferry was slated to depart.
Right to know
Volant, Pennsylvania, measures slightly larger than 0.1 square miles, and the latest Census shows it has 46 households in total. The borough’s small-town charm and small-business merchants have made its Main Street a day-trip destination.
The unexpected tax hike could be a burden for the community, where half the population is over age 65 and the median salary is $64,375 – below the statewide median of $71,798. It’s their first tax increase in seven years.
After the council approved the preliminary budget in November, a local reporter requested a copy of it and was denied. Told to schedule a meeting with the borough’s secretary, the reporter was met by a closed office.
Taped to the door was a five-paragraph explainer from Council President Howard Moss. It included brief anecdotes about rising expenses but no fiscal data to explain the tax increase.
Neither Moss nor the council’s vice president, Glenn Smith, replied to messages seeking comment. At a meeting Tuesday, when the council gave the increase final approval, Smith said the borough has been operating at a deficit for years but avoided raising taxes previously because of COVID and high unemployment.
The state of public access in Volant?
“There is none,” said Bridget Fry, a resident who launched an unsuccessful write-in campaign this fall to join the council. “It’s definitely disturbing, and it’s extremely uncomfortable living there.”
Paula Knudsen Burke, attorney for the Pennsylvania chapter of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, said too many government officials in Pennsylvania operate under the presumption that the onus is on the requester to prove a record is public. That’s not the case. Records are presumed to be accessible, and the government is tasked to prove otherwise, according to the state’s Right to Know Law.
“While it can make more work for local officials, the Legislature has said these records are available and accessible,” Burke said.
Divisive landscape
Incidents of governments suing journalists and residents for making records requests also have become more common, said Jonathan Peters, a media law professor at the University of Georgia.
Accessing local government meetings is getting more difficult, too. Elected officials are discussing significant public business in closed sessions, observers say. In some regions, they’re engaging in more combative behavior with constituents.
Researchers have several theories about the new landscape. Local agencies generally lack sufficient staff and infrastructure to efficiently process records requests. Then there is the decline of local media institutions, which have limited resources to wage costly legal battles over access to meetings and records.
Compounding the issue is the increased polarization gripping communities nationwide. Election offices across the country have been flooded with records requests from activists motivated by election falsehoods, piling on work. And school boards, for instance, have become political battlegrounds over COVID-19 policies and curriculum, prompting flurries of records requests, accusations of public meeting violations and intense scrutiny. In some areas, school boards have become dominated by highly divisive members.
“Governments feel emboldened to basically flout democracy (and) say, ‘We’re in charge. Don’t question us. We’re not telling you what’s up,’” Cuillier said.
Troubling trends
A 2023 state auditor’s report revealed multiple problems with transparency in the small town of Rural Hall, North Carolina.
The town failed to produce 38% of records requested by members of the public between November 2021 and June 2022, the report found. The requests included employment history for two town employees, copies of resignation letters and the former town manager’s employment contract.
Long-time resident Carol Newsome was among those who submitted requests. She said the town government “blew up” with turnover in 2021, and she was trying to figure out why.
In denying one resident’s requests, a town official cited the resident’s “demonstrated malice towards Rural Hall,” which was in direct conflict with state public records law, the report asserts.
The report also determined the town council violated state open meetings law by discussing certain matters in closed session.
Ron Niland, interim Rural Hall town manager since January, noted in emails that the individual who oversaw records requests at the time no longer works for the town. He added that during his tenure, the town council has “conducted themselves in accordance with applicable state statutes.”
Newsome, meanwhile, recalled the ease of accessing Rural Hall records just a few years ago.
“You could just walk in or call to the Town Hall and say, ‘I’m wanting to know such and such.’ And they’d say, ‘Well, do you need it printed, or do you just want the information?’” she said.
Now, she views her hometown as “kind of a microcosm” of troubling trends in government overall.
“We see it up and down, and just poor behavior in general,” Newsome said. “The arguments and the pushback from staff and the council became just more hostile and disrespectful than I’ve ever seen. I just hadn’t experienced it in town before.”

I did this exercise last year of categorizing my 2021 movies into loved, really liked, liked, meh, and disliked, and enjoyed the process so much that I decided to do it again this year!
Some patterns observed:
I guess this was the year for satire bc my top two films of the year (Bodies Bodies Bodies and The Good Boss) are both satire lol
I disliked every marvel movie released this year lmao
Some other comments:
I liked EEAAO, I really did, but it just wasn’t my jam ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I recognize that it’s a groundbreaking film, and like I said, I enjoyed it, but it just wasn’t the film for me
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was... disappointing imo. I really didn’t like it all that much and I’m not going into why in this post lol. There were parts that I loved. But on the whole, it really didn’t leave a great taste in my mouth
I might have enjoyed The Tragedy of Macbeth had I an ounce of knowledge about the play before going to see the movie but as someone who went in blind: I had absolutely no idea what the fuck was going on. It’s a beautifully captured and edited film. But the barrier to entry is 100 miles high for anyone who hasn’t read the play
The surprise dark horse of the year for me was King Richard. I’m not usually a biopics gal. But this one is amazing.
Jurassic World is 10/10 peak entertainment and I will fight you on this

GIVEN WHAT TO SAY But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Matthew 10:19-20
It was early in the morning the day after Christmas. It was cold. Mehdi Forootan sat in the back seat of an undercover police car in front of his house in Tehran, Iran. An officer pointed a camcorder at him. “Do you know why you were arrested?” the officer asked him. “No,” Forootan replied.
The officer turned off the camera and looked Forootan in the eyes. “I can beat you until blood is coming out of your mouth and every part of you. The next time I turn on the camera, you tell me why we are taking you,” the officer said and turned the camera back on.
Forootan spoke of his faith in Christ, and he spent the next 105 days in Iran’s harshest prison. On Dec. 26, 2010, authorities had arrested Forootan in a wave of persecution against Iran’s underground church. More than three months later, he was one of a few who had not been released.
During one interrogation, an officer turned on a camcorder and pointed it toward him, demanding that Forootan tell him about his “crime.” Forootan began to tell him how he had struggled with substance abuse as a teenager, “and how when I was in university I found Jesus and He saved me, and I have been free ever since. But he became angry and turned off the camera. He said, ‘I asked you to tell about your crime, not evangelize us.’”
After months of trying to get him to write statements confessing a crime, authorities inexplicably released him. Forootan said his first month out of prison was one of the worst of his life. He couldn’t speak to anyone of his prison experience for fear that authorities were watching and would re-arrest him. His parents had given the deed of their house to authorities as bail.
He and his fiancée decided it was best for him to leave Iran and go to Turkey as a refugee. For Forootan, this meant an illegal escape through the mountains, because authorities had confiscated his passport.
“I came out of Iran with 70 Afghanis,” Forootan said. “I went to the mountains and walked in the mountains for eight hours, and after eight hours I came to Turkey…That was really hard, because I really love Iran, and I’m really sad about this land. Maybe I can’t see my country again.”
Many who follow Jesus in other lands make great sacrifices for the sake of the gospel. Despite harsh treatment—even prison with interrogations—they still love their home country. But during those interrogations, the Holy Spirit gives the right words to be spoken.
RESPONSE: Today I will rest in the Lord realizing that when pressures come, He is with me and His Spirit will give me the right words to speak.
PRAYER: Pray for those who like Forootan above are forced to leave the home land they love because of their witness to the gospel of Christ.

Satoshi Nakamoto’s Seminal Bitcoin White Paper Turns 14 Today
Tumblr media
Furthermore, as a side effect, Satoshi’s creation spawned a new digital economy with more than 13,000 cryptocurrency assets, worth just over $1 trillion today.
Celebrating the 14th Anniversary of Satoshi’s Bitcoin White Paper
Presently, cryptocurrency and Bitcoin supporters are celebrating the 14th anniversary of Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin white paper. Bitcoin’s mysterious creator first introduced the white paper on metzdowd.com’s Cryptography Mailing List on Oct. 31, 2008, at approximately 2:10 p.m. (ET). The date marks the first time Satoshi shared the inventor’s vision and the first sentence Bitcoin’s inventor said was: I’ve been working on a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party. In the message, Bitcoin’s creator said that the invention offers a number of different properties. Bitcoin’s benefits include the prevention of double spending and there is “no mint or other trusted parties,” Satoshi said. The inventor also highlighted how bitcoins are minted via a “Hashcash style proof-of-work.” Satoshi added: The proof-of-work for new coin generation also powers the network to prevent double-spending. After introducing the main properties, Satoshi shared the abstract summary of the seminal Bitcoin white paper with a link to bitcoin.org, where the paper was hosted at the time. Satoshi did not communicate with the public again, until four days later, as the inventor published two more emails on Nov. 3, 2008. Both emails were introductions to the Bitcoin white paper, with a summary and URL linking to where the paper could be read. Satoshi wrote a total of 16 emails (some replies to James A. Donald) in 2008 before the network actually launched on Jan. 3, 2009.
‘A Solution to the Byzantine Generals’ Problem’
On Dec. 10, 2008, Satoshi’s last email before the network launched was a welcome post to the Bitcoin mailing list. After the network launched on Jan. 3, 2009, Satoshi did not communicate via the mailing list until Jan. 8, 2009, in a post called “Bitcoin v0.1 released.” In that thread, Bitcoin’s inventor shared the very first codebase release of Bitcoin when the creator said: Announcing the first release of Bitcoin, a new electronic cash system that uses a peer-to-peer network to prevent double-spending. It’s completely decentralized with no server or central authority. It is believed that Satoshi may have shared the codebase with others before the “Bitcoin v0.1 released” post was published. It is also commonly understood that Nakamoto helped kick-start the network during those early days. It is assumed that Bitcoin’s inventor mined between 750,000 to 1.1 million BTC before leaving the community in 2010. It is also assumed that Satoshi may have mined the cache of coins with a single PC. In addition to releasing the white paper on Halloween 2008, it was the first time academia and computer scientists were provided with a paper that solved the “Byzantine Generals’ Problem” or the “Byzantine Fault.” It also introduced the first academic paper that shows how triple-entry bookkeeping works, and Nakamoto knew it was a breakthrough invention when the inventor stated on November 13, 2008: The proof-of-work chain is a solution to the Byzantine generals’ problem. Not too long after the Bitcoin network launched, the idea of creating an alternative crypto asset network sprung to life. 14 years later since the white paper was published, there’s now more than 13,000 crypto assets in the wild today, worth $1 trillion in USD value. Other types of blockchain and crypto concepts now exist like smart contracts, decentralized finance (defi), and non-fungible tokens. Out of the $1 trillion in value within the crypto economy, Satoshi’s invention represents nearly 38% of the aggregate today. What do you think about Satoshi Nakamoto publishing the Bitcoin white paper 14 years ago on Halloween, 2008? Let us know what you think about this subject in the comments section below. She’s the first act to have the year’s top-selling album five times since MRC Data’s first full year of tracking in 1992.
Taylor Swift’s Folklore finishes 2020 as the top-selling album of the year in the U.S., and the only album to sell at least a million copies during the year, according to MRC Data. Plus, the superstar has now claimed the top-selling album of the year five times — becoming the first act to earn the honor dating to MRC Data’s first full year of tracking in 1992.
Folklore was released on July 24 and sold 1.276 million copies through Dec. 31, 2020.
Swift also logged the top-selling album of the year in the U.S. in 2019 (Lover, 1.09 million), 2017 (Reputation, 1.9 million), 2014 (1989, 3.66 million) and 2009 (Fearless, 3.22 million).
In both 2020 and 2019, only one album sold a million copies in the U.S., and both were by Swift.
Strikingly, just three of the top-selling albums of the last 12 years have been by an act other than Swift or Adele. The latter had the top-seller in 2016 and 2015 (25, with 1.73 million and 7.44 million sold in those years, respectively) and in 2012 and 2011 (21, with 4.41 and 5.82 million). The only non-Swift or Adele acts with the top-selling album between 2009 and 2020 were Eminem (Recovery, 2010; 3.41 million), Justin Timberlake (The 20/20 Experience, 2013; 2.43 million) and the multi-artist soundtrack to The Greatest Showman (2018, 1.49 million).
Swift has two of the top 10 selling albums of 2020, as her most recent album, Evermore (released on Dec. 11), was the year’s No. 10 seller with 283,000 copies sold through Dec. 31. Both Folklore and Evermore were released with little notice, and both opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The latter gave Swift her eighth leader on the tally.
TOP 10 SELLING ALBUMS OF 2020 IN U.S.
1. Taylor Swift, Folklore (1.276 million)
2. BTS, Map of the Soul: 7 (674,009)
3. The Weeknd, After Hours (480,000)
4. Harry Styles, Fine Line (420,000)
5. Billie Eilish, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (348,000)
6. Lady Gaga, Chromatica (331,000)
7. Juice WRLD, Legends Never Die (301,000)
8. Halsey, Manic (301,000)
9. Eminem, Music to Be Murdered By (287,000)

Taylor Swift Achieves Seventh No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart & Biggest Week of 2020 With 'Folklore'
By: Keith Caulfield for Billboard Date: August 2nd 2020
Tumblr media
Taylor Swift’s Folklore flies in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, capturing the biggest week for any album since Swift’s last release, 2019’s Lover. Folkore was released with little advance notice on July 24 and earns Swift her seventh No. 1 album.
Folklore starts with 846,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending July 30, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. That marks the largest week registered for any album since Swift’s own Lover, which debuted at No. 1 on the Sept. 7, 2019-dated chart with 867,000 units.
Further, in the last four years, the three biggest weeks for any album have been racked up by Swift. Dating back to July of 2016, the three largest frames for any album are: Swift’s Reputation (1.24 million units, Dec. 2, 2017-dated chart), Lover (867,000) and Folklore (846,000).
Folklore’s debut of 846,000 equivalent album units is led by 615,000 in album sales, 218,000 in SEA units (equating to 289.85 million on-demand streams of the tracks on the album), 209,000 in album sales and 13,000 in TEA units.
Seventh No. 1 Album: Folklore marks Swift’s seventh No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, tying her with Janet Jackson for the third-most leaders among women in the history of the chart. Ahead of them on the leading ladies list are Barbra Streisand, with 11 No. 1s, and Madonna, with nine. Among all acts, The Beatles have the most No. 1 albums, with 19.
Before Folklore, Swift topped the chart with Lover (No. 1 for one week, Sept. 7, 2019-dated chart), Reputation (No. 1 for four weeks, 2017-18), 1989 (No. 1 for 11 weeks, 2014-15), Red (No. 1 for seven weeks, 2012-13), Speak Now (No. 1 for six weeks, 2010-11) and Fearless (No. 1 for 11 weeks, 2008-09).
Most No. 1 Debuts Among Women: All seven of Swift’s No. 1 albums have debuted at No. 1 - a record among female artists. Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna and Britney Spears are tied with the second-most debuts at No. 1 among women, with six each. (Beyoncé, Gaga and Spears each have a total of six No. 1 albums - and all of them also debuted at No. 1. Meanwhile, six of Madonna's nine total No. 1s debuted atop the list.) Among all acts, Jay-Z has the most debuts at No. 1, with 14. All 14 of his No. 1 albums have debuted at No. 1.
2020’s Biggest Week for an Album, and Biggest for Any Album Since Swift’s Last Release, Lover: Folklore’s start of 846,000 equivalent album units marks the largest week for 2020 for any album. It blows past the previous high, which was registered just last month by the opening stanza of Juice WRLD’s Legends Never Die (497,000 units in the tracking week ending July 16; as reflected on the chart dated July 25). In addition, Folklore nabs the biggest week for any album since Swift’s last release, Lover, less than a year ago. It launched atop the list dated Sept. 7, 2019, with 867,000 units earned in the week ending Aug. 29, 2019.
Lover was released on Aug. 23, 2019. Unlike the surprise-released Folklore, Lover was preceded by months of traditional promotion, which began with the release of the set’s first single, “Me!,” featuring Brendon Urie, on April 26, 2019. Also, while Lover was available widely to purchase at all retailers in its first week, including Target, which carried four deluxe CD editions of the set, Folklore had a limited availability at retail in its first week. Folklore was only sold via Swift’s official webstore or via digital retailers. Folklore will be released on CD widely to all retailers on Aug. 7.
Swift Has the Three Biggest Weeks for Any Album in the Last Four Years: In the last four years, the three biggest weeks for any album have been racked up by Swift. Dating back to July of 2016, the three largest frames for any album were tallied by the debut weeks of Swift’s Reputation (1.24 million units, Dec. 2, 2017-dated chart), Lover (867,000) and Folklore (846,000). The last time anyone not named Taylor Swift had a bigger week than Folklore was Drake, who saw his Views album launch with 1.04 million units at No. 1 on the May 21, 2016-dated chart.
Biggest Sales Week for an Album Since Lover: Folklore sold 615,000 copies in its first week, marking the largest sales frame for any album since Swift’s Lover sold 679,000 copies in its debut week (Sept. 7, 2019-dated chart). As noted above, in Folklore’s first week of release, the album was only available to purchase through Swift’s website and digital retailers.
During the album’s first week, Swift’s webstore sold over a dozen physical/digital album bundles (with a CD, vinyl LP or cassette, plus the digital album). All of the physical/digital bundles delivered the digital version of the album upon purchase to the customer, while the physical version will ship to the customer later. Sales of such bundles - where two formats of the same album are bundled together - are counted as one sale, with the album configuration sold determined by the first version of the album that is fulfilled to the customer. Swift’s store additionally sold an array of merchandise/digital album bundles.
‘Folklore’ Is Already 2020’s Top Selling Album: With 615,000 copies sold of Folklore in its first week, the album has already become 2020’s top selling album. It surpasses the previous top-seller, BTS’ Map of the Soul: 7, which has sold 574,000 since its release on Feb. 21.
First Act to Have Seven Different Albums Sell at Least 500,000 in a Single Week: As Folklore sold 615,000 copies in its first week, Swift becomes the first act to have seven different albums each sell at least 500,000 copies in a single week, since Nielsen Music/MRC Data began electronically tracking music sales in 1991. Swift previously achieved half-million sales frames with the debut weeks of her last six full-length studio albums: Lover (679,000, in 2019), Reputation (1.216 million, in 2017), 1989 (1.287 million, 2014), Red (1.208 million, 2012), Speak Now (1.047 million, 2010) and Fearless (592,000; 2008). Swift was previously tied with Eminem, who has seen six of his albums each sell at least 500,000 copies in a week.
Largest Streaming Week of 2020 for an Album by a Woman: Folklore garnered 218,000 SEA units in its first week, which equals 289.85 million on-demand streams of its songs in its first week. That’s the biggest streaming week of 2020 for any album by a woman, and the biggest by a non-rap album this year. The only albums to generate bigger streaming frames in 2020 are two rap titles: Juice WRLD’s Legends Never Die, with 422.63 million in its opening week, and Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake, with 400.42 million and 348.72 million in its first and second weeks, respectively. Folklore’s 289.85 million streams also mark the second-biggest streaming week ever for an album by a woman, behind only the debut frame of Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next (307.07 million; chart dated Feb. 23, 2019).
*** The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Aug. 8-dated chart (where Folklore bows at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's website on Aug. 4.
