There are many web hosting companies to choose from if you're taking the plunge into making your own website with a comic content management system (CMS) like ComicControl or Grawlix, a Wordpress comic theme like Toocheke or ComicPress, or a HTML template to cut/paste code like Rarebit. While these solutions are generally free, finding a home for them is... generally not. It can be hard to choose what's best for your webcomic AND your budget!
We took a look at a few of the top hosting services used by webcomics creators using webcomic CMSes, and we put out a poll to ask your feedback about your hosts!
This post may be updated as time goes on as new services enter the hosting arena, or other important updates come to light.
Questions:
💻 I can get a free account with Wix/Squarespace/Carrd, could I just use those for my comic? - Web hosts like this may have gallery functions that could be adapted to display a series of pages, but they are very basic and not intended for webcomics.
📚 Wait, I host on Webtoon, Tapas, Comic Fury, or some other comic website, why are they not here? - Those are comic platforms! We'll get into those in a future post!
🕵️♀️Why does it say "shared hosting"? Who am I sharing with? - "Shared hosting" refers to sharing the server space with other customers. They will not have access to your files or anything, so it is perfectly fine to use for most comic CMSes. You may experience slowing if there is too much activity on a server, so if you're planning to host large files or more than 10 comics, you may want to upgrade to a more robust plan in the future.
Web Host List
Neocities
Basic plan pricing: Free or $5/month. Free plan has more restrictions (1 GB space, no custom domain, and slower bandwidth, among other things)
Notes: Neocities does not have database support for paid or free accounts, and most comic CMS solutions require this (ComicCtrl, Grawlix, Wordpress). You will need to work with HTML/CSS files directly to make a website and post each page.
Hostinger
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the 1st year. Free SSL Certifications. Weekly backups.
KnownHost
Basic plan pricing: $8.95/month or $7.99/month with four year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 4 year plans available).
Notes: Free DDOS protection. Free SSL Certifications.
InMotion Hosting
Basic plan pricing: $12.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certifications, free domain names for 1 and 3 year plans. 24/7 live customer service and 90-day money-back guarantee. Inmotion also advertises eco-friendly policies: We are the first-ever Green Data Center in Los Angeles. We cut cooling costs by nearly 70 percent and reduce our carbon output by more than 2,000 tons per year.
Reviews:
👍“I can't remember it ever going down.”
👍“InMotion has a pretty extensive library full of various guides on setting up and managing websites, servers, domains, etc. Customer service is also fairly quick on responding to inquiries.” 👎“I wish it was a bit faster with loading pages.”
Ionos Hosting
Basic plan pricing: $8/month or $6/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2 and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain for the first year, free SSL Certification, Daily backup and recovery is included. Site Scan and Repair is free for the first 30 days and then is $6/month.
Reviews:
👍“Very fast and simple” 👎“Customer service is mediocre and I can't upload large files”
Bluehost
Basic plan pricing: $15.99/month or $4.95/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free domain and SSL certificates (for first year only). 24/7 Customer Service. Built to handle higher traffic websites. Although they specialize in Wordpress websites and provide updates automatically, that's almost a bad thing for webcomic plugins because they will often break your site. Their cloud hosting services are currently in early access with not much additional information available.
Reviews:
👎"The fees keep going up. Like I could drop $100 to cover a whole year, but now I'm paying nearly $100 for just three months. It's really upsetting."
👎"I have previously used Bluehost’s Wordpress hosting service and have had negative experiences with the service, so please consider with a grain of salt. I can confirm at least that their 24/7 customer service was great, although needed FAR too often."
Dreamhost
Basic plan pricing: $7.99/month or $5.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free SSL Certificates, 24/7 support with all plans, 97-day moneyback guarantee. Not recommended for ComicCtrl CMS
Reviews:
👍“They've automatically patched 2 security holes I created/allowed by mistake.” 👍“Prices are very reasonable” 👎 “back end kind of annoying to use” 👎 “wordpress has some issues” 👎 “it's not as customizable as some might want“
GoDaddy
Basic plan pricing: $11.99/month or $9.99/month with three year commitment (monthly, 1, 2, and 3 year plans available).
Notes: Free 24/7 Customer service with all plans, Free SSL Certificates for 1 year, free domain and site migration.
Reviews:
👍Reasonable intro prices for their Economy hosting, which has 25GB of storage 👍Migrated email hosting service from cPanel to Microsoft Office, which has greater support but may not be useful for most webcomic creators. 👎 Many site issues and then being upsold during customer service attempts. 👎 Server quality found lacking in reviews 👎 Marketing scandals in the past with a reputation for making ads in poor taste. Have been attempting to clean up that image in recent years. 👎 “GoDaddy is the McDonald's of web hosting. Maybe the Wal-Mart of hosting would be better. If your website was an object you would need a shelf to put it on. You go to Wal-Mart and buy a shelf. It's not great. It's not fancy. It can only hold that one thing. And if we're being honest - if the shelf broke and your website died it wouldn't be the end of the world.The issue comes when you don't realize GoDaddy is the Wal-Mart of hosting. You go and try to do things you could do with a quality shelf. Like, move it. Or add more things to it.” MyWorkAccountThisIs on Reddit*
Things to consider for any host:
💸 Introductory/promotional pricing - Many hosting companies offer free or inexpensive deals to get you in the door, and then raise the cost for these features after the first year or when you renew. The prices in this post are the base prices that you can expect to pay after the promotional prices end, but may get outdated, so you are encouraged to do your own research as well.
💻 Wordpress hosting - Many of the companies below will have a separate offering for Wordpress-optimized hosting that will keep you updated with the latest Wordpress releases. This is usually not necessary for webcomic creators, and can be the source of many site-breaking headaches when comic plugins have not caught up to the latest Wordpress releases.
Any basic hosting plan on this list will be fine with Wordpress, but expect to stop or revert Wordpress versions if you go with this as your CMS.
🤝 You don't have to go it alone - While free hosts may be more limited, paid hosting on a web server will generally allow you to create different subdomains, or attach additional purchased domains to any folders you make. If you have other comic-making friends you know and trust, you can share your server space and split the cost!
Want to share your experience?
Feel free to contribute your hosting pros, cons, and quirks on our survey! We will be updating our list periodically with your feedback!

Razi's Guide to Challenging Coercive Control in Society and Your Personal Life
Part 1 - A Functionalist Perspective on Self-Creating Morality
I'll be blunt. The only person free from the risk of being abusive are those who were never alive at all. There is no easy solution to being a good and just person, and no matter what arena of our lives we interrogate, there will be actions we have taken or deeds endorsed that were unacceptable, likely even in the moment.
The truth is, there is no specific set of instructions I could give you to earn you such an outcome. But why should we refuse to try?
Many of us have learned to internalize fear of failure, especially fear of moral failure, as a fear of excommunication from the social fabric of survival. This combines poorly with a world in which the only person who is successfully non-coercive in their navigation of the world is the person who is unafraid of being told they HAVE exerted inappropriate pressure or coercion, and who is unafraid of the trial and error involved in learning the balance of people they love or live with. You have to fail morality with an open and curious mind in order to have even a hope of succeeding in morality. A connundrum for many a nervous system even when the brain sees true.
So lets be clear, the question of how to observe your own use and wielding of coercion and control is essential for EVERYONE, no matter who you are, what your values, or how your history has played out. Thinking otherwise is its own risk factor when assessing risks for abuse. Specifically, behaviors of and exertion of overcontrol actually often raises the risk measure of an abuse victim's safety assessment (in this case referring to The Danger Assessment commonly utilized in domestic violence safety assessment, linked below) more than a physical assault would, as it is historically a higher predictor of who will harm or kill a victim when they attempt to differentiate within the relationship or leave it.
So what are the foundations of coercive control? Well, interestingly enough, researchers have been working to answer this question for a while! There are a lot of really useful and in depth conversations about this, but here's a succinct introduction to it. **a reminder, this is about how to interrogate YOUR OWN behavior for patterns of coercion and control more effectively. The information contained in this post is NOT an effective way of identifying abusive/coercive thoughts and behaviors in others, although ultimately the better you understand your own risks and maladaptive behavior patterns, the easier it is to cultivate relationships with healthy and adaptive boundaries for all parties.

*these screenshots are cited from an article about self-reported abusive and coercive behaviors during perceived in-group conversations such as on estranged parent web forums and represents an effective intro summary of patterns of coercive/abusive relationships in many mixed-hierarchy relationship dynamics from other existing research:
The important thing about realizing we all carry at least SOME of these coercive/abusive beliefs is that we must allow the inevitability of that reality undermine the shame and fear society encourages us to feel about the possibility of committing a moral failure, and sppecifically doing so while being able to maintain the somewhat contradictory side-by-side reality that these moral failings, every time they occur, must be treated as if you have done serious harm which must be REPAIRED. Specifically, we must set aside the idea of self-flagellation/punishment as "repair" and we must stop seeing apologies as a performance of remorse and contrition. Apologies are an opportunity to communicate to a person that you respect and hear their feelings, and that you will continue to act with love to the best of your ability. People rarely feel displays of guilt make good apologies. They often feel like an apology has been properly made when they feel their experience of distress was recognized and given genuine kindness.
So rather than looking at this list and justifying the ones that hit a little too close to home, the experiment for this week, the last week of 2024, is to actually ask the question "what if believing this really does hurt me and others?" What would it mean to you, in the life you have led, to consider the possibility that these beliefs are themselves abusive/coercive, and that when you act on them, so are you. If you have decided to come along with me on this long-term self-study, perhaps you'll journal along with me (in public or in private) on that question.
For now, I'll get the ball rolling. One of the dysfunctional beliefs that resonated the most for me is:
Emotions cause actions. When I feel something, I can't not act on it, or at least it would be wrong not to.
I have spent many sections of my life in abusive relationships, and the idea of not acting on the feeling of hurt or emotional lashing out sits VERY poorly with me both in concept and in practice. I genuinely do believe that such emotions ARE wrong not to "act" on, but I have come to understand that to "act upon" an emotion like that must often be an internal or curated affair. For example, there are times that my wife says things that feel hurtful, and because of how I experience them, I can struggle at times to "remember" that my interpretation is not the only available one. It is rare, when I do remember this, for a thing my wife said to be INAPPROPRIATE, even when it is hurtful. And I have realized that how I talk to her about the hurt feelings from appropriate statements must look very different from a talk about the rare INAPPROPRIATE and hurtful comment. Critically, being clear with each other about these two types of conversations means we are better equipped to treat things that were both hurtful and inappropriate with real seriousness, without detracting from or sacrificing our ability to discuss more complicated navigations of hurtful but appropriate episodes/statements. Example: sometimes my wife lets me know she's feeling overextended physically and like she can't keep up on her own and can't get help. This is ALWAYS a hurtful conversation for me because I am aware of the truth of what she says and we are BOTH aware that truth is largely beyond my control. My wife, in these moments, is asking me to sit with her in love with the knowledge that she is hurting as an outcome of trying to do an entire household's physical labor alone and that she fundamentally cannot expect help from me even though we both wish that were not so. She is not asking any ACTION of me. She is not asking CHANGE. She is not asking for APOLOGY. She's not even asking for GRATITUDE. But she *is* asking TO BE SEEN BY HER PARTNER IN HER WHOLENESS. In the same example, there have been a time here or there when, whether in response to defensiveness from me, or overwhelm in other areas of life, she has expressed this need to be seen in ways that were truly unkind or inappropriate. When these occurred, it was entirely necessary for her and I to sit down and talk through why/how that could not repeat, but importantly, it happened AFTER she and I got through a conversation about her feelings. It did ME (let alone her) no good to challenge how she expressed a reasonable feeling in an unreasonable way in the moment. And in fact, taking the time to make sure she felt fully heard is often integral to her ability to hear me in turn. I like to call this the assumption of good faith. I know that my wife loves me and that I love her. I am allowed and in fact will require healthy boundaries to maintain this love in a healthy way. And healthy boundaries are best discussed with unconditional regard for all parties involved, which means that while some boundaries may not change based on someone's feelings about it, but those feelings may indicate certain needs that would - if met - better facilitate the outcomes you want. This is NOT abuse apologia, and inherently does not accept that certain boundaries (such as hitting or restraining another person) can be safely crossed. It does however name that many boundaries may require mutual agreement on how they can effectively manifest/be maintained.
A lesson I am choosing to take in from this exercise is the lesson that it can be emotionally easy to match energies when I feel someone is pressuring or aggressing me, but I know that my intellectual preference, and the choice I would least regret after the fact, would be to de-escalate that feeling rather than add to it. Because of my abuse history I often struggle to differentiate between "holding a boundary firmly" and "being mean", which can mean BOTH that I fail to adequately hold or communicate boundaries AND that I am prone to lashing out if I "bottle up" a boundary for too long and genuinely say something unkind an inappropriate. And while I may feel justified in my feelings, that can never translate to justifying inappropriate behaviors that stem from those feelings.
As 2025 dawns, what lessons are you taking into the year for yourself?

hi my time lord friend uh is bleeding a LOT. like they're glowing type of a lot. i got them into the zero room in their TARDIS but is there anything else i can do i am scared
First off, take a deep breath. You're already doing a great job by getting them into the Zero Room—it's a good starting point. However, based on your description, you need to act now.
1️⃣Assess the Situation (GASS/ABCDE Protocol)
Perform an emergency assessment to determine the extent of the physical trauma:
GASS (Gallifreyan Assessment Scoring System)
This will give you a sense of their overall condition. Find it here.
ABCDE Protocol
This gives you a practical guide to stabilising them as quickly as possible. Find it here.
2️⃣Identify the Cause of the Bleeding
This seems like a prolonged bleed. Gallifreyans generally clot very quickly, so prolonged bleeding could indicate:
Hypoartronosis: Insufficient artron energy could disrupt clotting and healing. Use the Artron Detectors in the TARDIS infirmary to measure their artron levels. Levels under ≤10 mg/dL are indicators of hypoartronosis. This will stabilise over a few days.
Injury Severity: A deep or critical wound that the body is struggling to repair requires medical intervention.
Reaction or Disease: Exposure to toxins, temporal radiation, or disease could interfere with healing.
3️⃣Move Them to the TARDIS Infirmary (if Possible)
While the Zero Room is great for stabilisation, you'll need the medical tools in the infirmary to handle heavy bleeding:
Advanced Diagnostic Terminal (ADT): Run a scan to pinpoint internal damage, blood loss, or underlying conditions. The holographic guide can walk you through treatment if needed.
Surgical Containment Web: Use this for critical wounds. It will remove damaged tissue, reconstruct missing flesh, and reattach severed parts if necessary.
Handheld Healing Devices: Use these for minor wounds to speed up clotting and tissue repair.
If you're confident, transfer them out of the Zero Room and into the infirmary to use the technology.
4️⃣Encourage a Healing Coma
If your friend is conscious but struggling, encourage them to enter a healing coma. This allows their body to focus energy on repairing itself.
5️⃣Avoid Human Medications
Unless you're a qualified Gallifreyan medic, don't administer human medications. Time Lord biology reacts unpredictably to non-Gallifreyan substances, and you could inadvertently make things worse.
6️⃣Monitor for Signs of Impending Regeneration
The glowing suggests that regeneration might be on the horizon. Watch for these signs:
Excessive glowing or flickering.
Sudden spikes in energy or pain.
Disorientation or emotional instability.
If they are regenerating, focus on keeping them calm and in a safe environment. Avoid interfering with the process.
🚨If Unsure, Call for Help
If your friend's condition doesn't improve, the best course of action is to contact a qualified Gallifreyan medic or someone familiar with TARDIS medical systems. Reach out via the TARDIS comm systems.
📜Summary
Assess their condition using GASS/ABCDE.
Identify and address the cause of bleeding.
Move them to the infirmary for active treatment if possible.
Use the Advanced Diagnostic Terminal and Surgical Containment Web for serious injuries.
Encourage a healing coma.
Avoid human medications.
Monitor for signs of impending regeneration.
Your friend's TARDIS has the tools you need. Let us know if you need more guidance!
Hope that helped! 😃

By Blue Eyes, Yellow Will Die - Epilogue: A Murder Drones story

It had taken him a half hour to reboot, in that time the sentinels had shut down Max, Ali, Marc and Amanda before returning to their room. His mother had placed him on one of the beds and while she waited for him to come to, she had already used her tail to assist with her own repairs. Things were quiet, a solemn silence, his mother may have been distant with the others, but that didn’t mean she delighted in their destruction, for as far as she was concerned, for every lab drone that had to have their core removed was another victory for Cyn.
His mother turned to him, as he rose from his bed, they were all that was left. With the sentinels back in their room, mother and son went to collect the bodies. The process was slow, and despite his reboot, Beau was tired, he could feel fatigued in every aspect of his code, but this couldn’t be put off – the humans had found out the hard way what happened when a drone didn’t have enough material to self-repair but still had their heart. First was Max and then Ali – their jars placed in visual range of each other (just as Jerom and Connie’s cores had been) – after had been Marc and Amanda who received the same courtesy though their cores had to be place in a different oven then the others (a reorganization could be done later). As for their bodies, they would be taken apart for scraps after examination to ensure they were clean of Cyn’s influence.
He'd be lying if he said he wasn’t worried. The fatigue was getting to both of them, if he could convince his mother to rest–
The sensors alarms were active. Someone was coming.
Someone was coming and it was too soon to bring out the sentinels.
A trap was set, and the trap was sprung
Beau wasn’t tired anymore … he’s not sure the adrenaline is better though.
“Two murder pets, a drone girl, and … this” his mother said.
Beau looked to his mother in question.
“I don’t know how to explain it” she continued, “we’ll put a magnet on her anyway.”
Alice rolled over the purple haired drone, her eyes squinting.
“I’ll handle this one, a normal lookin’ drone, palin’ around with murder pets-”
Using her tail, Alice lifted the arm of the female murder pet before giving a start, she looked to Beau – for a moment, there was fear in her eyes.
She took a breath, “I’ll handle this one too.”
With that they moved the four intruders, the strange one and the male drone to one of the examination rooms and the two female drones to Alice’s main lab room.
(~*~)
Yellow Eyes was here and Beau was terrified.
The sentinels had crushed his mother head – with any hope, she could come back from that. Time seemed to slow down as he aimed his laser blaster, maybe it was because he was tired, fatigue addling his mind, all he had to do survive, get to the body his mother had made him … and … and then what?
Maybe it was fatigue, maybe … maybe …
He freed the female murder drone.
With a tip of his hat the jaws of the sentinels closed around him, and he felt it, he felt it as his solver code activated in his defense, clinging to the sentinel hive like system as his power guided him to the center. For a moment he was ten again and he felt himself being to panic before a spark, glitched through the system. Gathering himself, he examined the system, with the sentinels in a frenzy he wouldn’t be able to take possession of one but … the sparking one … he wouldn’t be able to take possession, but he could station his code.
Entering the mind of the sparking one, he began weaving his web, taking root, taking the reins and as the creature began to wake, his influence guided the sentinel as he battled to not be consumed by the animal’s oil-lust.

Sparks between Us-Pt. 2 Dawn of the First Day
Pairing: Beetee Latier x Hunger Games Oc
Two former Hunger Games victors, Beetee Latier from District 3 and Astraea Wren from District 5, find themselves navigating a complex relationship while working under the Captiol's grip. Told in a series of drabbles across several decades with elements of a plot. * there's literally no demand for this, but here we are 🫡*
Pt. 3 Trustworthy Enough?
The train from District 5 screeched to a halt with a hiss of steam, its silver exterior gleaming in the early morning light. Astraea Wren stepped off the platform with an air of composure, though inside her body betrayed her. The quick flutterings of her heartbeat amplified until she felt as if it might beat out of her chest. She wasn’t entirely sure what she had gotten herself into, and her body, naturally, reacted accordingly. The Peacekeepers flanked her as she descended the steps from the train, their black boots tapping out an intimidating rhythm against the polished stone of the Capitol station platform.
Her eyes scanned the tight crowd of Capitol officials and technicians gathered to greet her, but one person immediately captured her attention: Beetee Latier, the victor of the 34th Games from District 3, watching as she approached beneath the rims of his thick glasses. As she got closer, Beetee’s expression momentarily flickered with a hint of recognition. His mind flashing back to the coverage of the 40th Games only a few years ago.
The year she had won, District 5's victory had still been a fresh wound for the Capitol. Astraea Wren, only 18, had taken the arena by surprise. He remembered watching her on the screen, her calm demeanor masking a deadly cunning.
He had seen the tapes everyone had. Her strategy had been brilliant, observing the tributes, luring them into her web by making them chase her, like a predator leading its prey into a trap. She had let them think they were gaining on her, only to guide them directly to another tribute who finished them off. It was one of those strategies that made Beetee’s mind hummed with admiration. The efficiency. The cleverness.
“Astraea Wren. District 5.” He extended a hand, his tone neutral, though his eyes held a hint of wariness.
“Astraea, yes.” She said, receiving his outstretched hand. “And you must be Beetee.”
He nodded again, lips pressed together. "It’s… good to meet you." There was a hesitation in his words, like he wasn’t entirely convinced it was good at all.
Astraea glanced over at the Peacekeepers, who were still standing behind her like silent sentinels. “I suppose we’re both here for the same reason, then?” she said, trying to sound casual.
Beetee’s gaze followed her attention over her shoulder to the guards before his attention returned to her. “Yes, the Capitol is enlisting some support to make repairs to our communications system. I wasn’t expecting… you.” His voice was even, though Astraea noticed a flicker of doubt in his eyes. “I’m not sure how you.."
"How I fit in?" she finished for him.
"Yeah, me neither." She gave a self-deprecating smile, but it felt too forced even for her. “Honestly, I don't know why I'm here.” She lowered to whisper. “ I don't think I have the skills necessary for whatever they want us to do,” she breathed out, releasing a breath she didn't realize she was holding. “But I’m eager to learn, and I’ve always been impressed by the things you’ve shared on your victor tours. You... know things.”
A slight spark of curiosity flickered in Beetee’s eyes. His usual guarded demeanor cracked just a fraction. “Learn from me?” The words tasted strange as they lingered in his mouth. Beetee wasn’t used to teaching. In his world he had always operated solo, working with his own mind, his own inventions.
“I’m sure you have ideas for improving communications systems,” Astraea continued, her tone light, but there was a vulnerability beneath it. “I’ll be honest, I don’t think I have the technical mind for it, but I'm committed to being whatever help I can. She gave him a faint, almost apologetic smile, the kind she reserved for moments of uncomfortable honesty.
Beetee studied her for a long beat, his brow furrowing as if analyzing her every word, her every movement. She wasn’t trying to butter him up. There was a sincerity there, something that didn’t seem to align with the Capitol’s usual way of manipulating people.
“Very well,” he said at last, the words slow and deliberate. “We’ll see if your enthusiasm can make up for your lack of technical expertise." He eyed her with a lingering skepticism but didn't turn away. “I’ve been working with communications systems for the last couple of years. If you want to learn, then we’ll see if you’re capable of keeping up.”
Astraea raised an eyebrow. “I don't think keeping up will be an issue.”
For a moment, Beetee simply stood there, rubbing his thumb against the edge of his tablet. “No time to waste let’s get started,” he said, though there was no warmth in his voice. His tone was businesslike, as if to ward off any further conversation that might threaten to weaken his resolve.
The Peacekeepers gestured for them to follow, and as they walked, Beetee couldn’t help but feel a growing unease. He wasn’t sure about this partnership, about her, especially since the Capitol was involved in her selection. But as they reached the Capitol’s technical building where their work would begin, Astraea fell into step beside him, her pace matching his.
And for a moment, just a brief flicker in time, Beetee wondered if maybe, just maybe, this partnership wouldn’t be the disaster he anticipated.
____________________
Beetee led Astraea down the polished corridors of the Capitol's main technical building, the quiet hum of machinery, and the soft clicking of their footsteps echoing in the sterile environment.
As they walked, Beetee’s mind kept drifting back to his initial reaction to Astraea. He hadn’t been thrilled about being partnered with someone so clearly inexperienced in the technical field. However, it wasn’t her fault. She didn’t ask to be here, and she was fulfilling an obligation just like the rest of them. He couldn’t hold that against her.
He caught himself frowning and quickly smoothed his expression. Stop being annoyed. She’ll be here for a few weeks, and then you’ll be rid of her, back home in District 3 before the next victor tour. Just work through it.
But curiosity gnawed at him. He kind of had to admit it, he wanted to see what kind of mind he was dealing with. What exactly was this person from District 5 capable of? He wasn’t expecting much, but he needed to know.
They reached a large, windowless room at the end of the hall, inside, the space was filled with rows of workstations, some housing complex schematics, others featuring large screens flashing lines of code or engineering designs.
Beetee gestured for Astraea to follow him to a workstation, where he slid a large schematic across the desk to her.
"This," he said, his voice cool but authoritative, "is the Capitol's broadcast system. It's what sends out signals to all the districts, everything from news to announcements.” And propaganda. He thought, fighting the urge to speak it out loud. “Right now, it’s stable, but it’s old and prone to failure in some areas. We'll be planning to make some adjustments, but I was curious about your thoughts.”
Astraea stood still for a moment, her eyes tracing the outline of the system on the paper before her. The silence stretched longer than Beetee was comfortable with. He was about to speak again when she spoke up.
"This system’s built on a central hub, right?”
He nodded.
“And it has relay points in each district, sending out broadcast signals?”
Another nod.
“Okay, I'm guessing that means you're seeing some redundancy issues with the relays in the middle districts?”
She pointed to a cluster of nodes on the schematics. “I’d expect them to fail more frequently. If one of these goes down, the others might pick up the slack for a while, but it’s bound to cause strain. Districts that rely on these primary relays could lose their signal in moments. Some of the outer districts might never get a proper broadcast.”
Beetee blinked and leaned closer to the schematic, looking over her shoulder. “Yes, that's our planned starting point.”
“Fantastic, and …” she continued, her finger tracing the outer edges of the map, “I notice here, between Districts 7 and 8, the relay stations could be too close together, almost redundant. The signal might overlap too much and cause interference, especially in areas where terrain affects transmission quality.” Her eyes flicked up to meet his, “But I'd expect you're working on that too.”
Beetee’s lips parted in surprise. The systems in those regions had always been a hassle, but no one had ever proposed an actual solution.
For a moment, Beetee didn’t say anything. He was still processing, still surprised by her depth of understanding. “Okay,” he said slowly, still somewhat taken aback, “that’s actually very insightful. I didn’t think about the overlap in Districts 7 and 8, causing too many issues.” Her analysis wasn’t perfect, but it was a hell of a lot more thorough than he’d expected.
“Well,” Beetee said, adjusting his glasses as he finally broke the silence, “this might not be as difficult as I thought. Though I thought you said you didn't know much about communication systems?”
She smiled, just a little, glad to see she passed his test. “I know the basics. I just haven't worked on systems like this before. But I understand the principles.”

The Spider's Web 2
“Come on, stupid thing… Go in the hole!” Syntax growled as he tried once again to finish the simple task. He was so close, so very close to finally fixing the mech’s heating system! He just had to get this panel in place and start up the systems and they’d have warmth again.
The tangled and charred wiring had been replaced and protected from damage or future tangling thanks to some small cable ties and the addition of a thin spacer between the wires to keep them from twisting or tangling again. The ruined circuit boards and blocked fuel lines had also been replaced and better secured in place, the fuel lines have been completely removed, washed out and widened to prevent blockages happening again. And to prevent having to spend so long redoing all that work again, he had made a protective panelling to cover the exposed wires and fuel lines better, he just had to fasten this one last panel in place and he’d be done.
But it seemed the universe had other plans for him, as the last edge of the fastening was just not cooperating.
The panel was a simple design, simply push four small bolts into their matching holes and push until they clicked to signal they were securely in place. The paneling was his own design, and once it was all set up and linked to his tech, it would allow him to isolate and find any issues beneath the panelling, should he ever need to do repairs again.
The problem he was facing was that this last panel was proving to be very difficult, as the thing had very little give and if he pushed or pulled too hard or caught the bolts at a bad angle, the bolts could break and come loose, leaving him with more work to do and more delays. So he was trying to be careful, to tease and coax the little give he could work with into working for him so the panel would fit snugly in place.
It was not at all as easy as it sounded, when in order to reach the place the paneling should go, Syntex had to put his whole arm, from fingertips to shoulder, into the tight space between the mechs main body and one of its legs, using mostly his sense of touch to guide him, as he couldn't move his head far enough to properly see the hole the last bolt of the panel needed to go. The process was further complicated by the fact that Syntax had to try and do this all while holding on to the mech’s outer shell with his spider limbs, leaving his human legs to dangle uselessly as he worked.
The first three bolts had gone into place and clicked securely with a little effort and now he just needed to get the last one, the closest one to him, to click in and it would be done! Finally they’d have warmth! It was so easy, a task he’d done many times before already today, but Syntax was not having a good time with it at all. Every time he got close, the panel would shift or jolt suddenly and he’d be left with a moment of panic to hope nothing was broken or snapped.
Still he kept trying, even changing arms to see if the new grip could help. But nothing was working! He had to finish this! He had to! If he could just get this panel on, they would at last have heat again! If the bolt would just, go, in-
“Gah!” A sharp jolt and Syntax felt the panel jerk in his hand, nothing broken, just a sign that the panel had again failed to catch properly. “Oh you- damn thing!” He growled, once again trying to coax the reluctant panel into place. “Just go on the hole already!”
A deliberate clunk sounded suddenly, above and slightly to the right of him. “Oi.” Oh great, just what he needed right now. A distraction.
“What is it, Huntsman?” He asked, a little snipped with his tone but he was so close, so very clo- “OW!” He felt the bolt once again shift and miss the space it was meant to go into, catching his finger for a moment resulting in a sharp sting of pain and he pulled his hand back and glared into the space at the panel with gritted teeth.
“Food.” The other stated plainly.
He waved the other off and moved to try again. “I’m not hung-OI! Let me go!” He yelled as the older male grabbed him by the back of his coat firmly.
“No.” Huntsman said, striking the middle of Syntax’s back to force the mechanical limbs to retract with what was now practiced ease, leaving the younger male no way to keep holding on to the mech’s side and then heaved him up and over his shoulder. “Hang on.” he warned.
“Huntsman, put me down!” Syntax demanded, trying to wriggle free of the older’s hold. Only to yelp and quickly cling to the back of Huntsman’s coat tightly when the older spider swung them off the mech with his web and upwards onto the webbing that took them up out of the mech’s chamber and began to jump and swing his way across the cave walls and webbing towards the kitchen, making his stomach do a nasty flip. “Oi!”
“You don’t get to complain this time, kid. It’s past midnight, and you need to eat- a full meal this time, not one of those junk pots of instant stuff. Then you’re going to bed.” The other said and continued to carry him over his shoulder with ease. “Goliath did not spend time cooking a good stew for it to go to waste because you’re eating trashy stuff.”
“I am not hungry, And don’t knock my food choices. I’ve survived this long.” He protested, squirming just enough to keep Huntsman’s shoulder from japping his stomach as the other moved. “Damn it, I was almost done!”
“Oh sure you were.” Huntsman said with a mocking chuckle, keeping his grip tight so Syntax wouldn’t fall as he jumped from one web to another. “You were arguing with a bolt, the same bolt you’ve been struggling with for the last half an hour. You need to eat something so that your body can keep up with your brain, or is your so-called big brain too stupid for basic health?”
“If the damn bolt would have just gone in the hole like it was meant to, I would have been finished by now.” Syntax huffed, no longer squirming and instead going partly limp, folding his arms as best he could while being carried.
“Whatever you say, genius.” Huntsman teased. Syntax wouldn’t keep fighting him on this, for all that they didn’t get along, the younger male was smart enough to know when he’d lost the argument.
“What’s in the stew?” The half demon asked quietly.
“Fresh meat and some chicken cuts, vegetables and dumplings. I set it to reheat for you so the meat should be more on the well done side rather than rare.” Huntsman listed as they entered the kitchen space. It was easier to say fresh meat than the truth, to help the younger get over the mental blocks that were still sensitive on the matter. “I’m going out tonight so if you have a request, it better be on the list before I leave or you’ll do without until next time.”
The kitchen space wasn’t a very large cave, but it wasn’t small either, as the Queen was often the one who did the most cooking for them, the webs acted as both tables and chairs, though it still confused Syntax how the webs didn’t bow or snap under sudden shifts in weight, and yet the half demon recalled when he had been sat listening to Goliath explain their diets to him while the Queen cooked up what had smelt like beef stew, Huntsman had silently been walking upside down along a web across from then, only to suddenly drop and catch himself on his own webbing.
It had been funny to see at the time, as Huntsman had been mocking Syntax earlier that day for his poor balance with his spider limbs and Goliath had told him that it was normal for the webs to suddenly sag like that. Being spiders, they all naturally produce webbing and over time, the webbing dried out and started to sag, losing its tautness and becoming just another layer of webbing over the floor to better trap and delay any fool stupid enough to walk on them.
Huntsman carried the younger male over the webbing that surrounded the cooking pot, knowing that the other was still adjusting to the new limbs and how to properly use them on the webbing, moving so they were closer to the pot than normal to be near the heat.
Syntax huffed again. “As if you could possibly bring home a good sirloin steak.” He said, ignoring the way his stomach gave a low rumble at the smell of the stew in the cooking pot. The heat from the magic beneath the pot was also a bonus.
“Is that a challenge?” Huntsman questioned and dropped Syntax onto the thicker webs, knowing he was confident enough to not fall from them without his spider limbs and then jumped down to fetch a bowl up for him. “Because I’ll have you know I can and have brought down foes bigger than our Queen if I must. Finding and butchering a cow for some meat is nothing compared to such a feat.”
“Sure, and I’ll assume you have a skull trophy to prove that claim somewhere in your mess of a room?” The younger cheeked, they both knew Huntsman’s room was not a mess, it was in fact the second neatest of the lot, the first being the Queen’s.
Huntsman opened his mouth to answer that yes, he did in fact have such a sulk, but as he looked at Syntax, the younger male winced, curling in on himself and pulled his new coat, warmed by the fur lining their Queen had sown into it for him tightly around himself. Shivering as he quickly fastened it closed to try and retain the heat it gave him.
Huntsman grit his teeth. Because he was only a half demon, one could easily mistake this action for one of pain, but the truth was that Syntax had gotten a fairly good balance of both his human and spider instincts already, and the worst of his changes wouldn’t start happening until he was past the initial internal and external changes, those being his stomach adjusting to his new diet, and the hyper sensitivity to temperature, light and vibration from the webs when he was sat or stood on them.
This reaction? This was an overreaction to the chill and it was deliberate. He was acting on instinct to alert others near him to something cold coming towards them. That was why of all their new clothes, Huntsman knew the Queen had taken care to make Syntax’s the thickest, helping him combat the chill better even as he continued to try and hide it as lingering pains from his mutations.
“Ah, good evening gentlemen.” The ‘Mayor’ greeted as he stepped inside the room, his constant smile and white eyes as unblinking as they always seemed to be. “I hope I am not interrupting anything?” He questioned.
“This dumbass forgot to eat, again.” Huntsman stated sharply, and made a show of shoving the bowl of stew into Syntax’s hands with more force than was needed, a sharp look warning Syntax not to shovel the food into his mouth. “He needs more food now since his body is still struggling with the new mutations. By not eating he’s giving himself a bad case of cramps.”
A cover story, one that meant Syntax didn’t have to try to stop the shivering right away as he sat there, holding the bowl in his lap. The heat of it seeping through the fabric of his clothes and into his hands, was a relief now that the room seemed so much colder. It helped to ground him and kept him aware of the situation around him rather than the discomfort of the cold as he began to eat.
The use of language was deliberate on Huntsman’s part, the Mayor’s eye often twitched or his hands would jerk sharply when someone cursed around him, and Huntsman had quickly learnt that if he cursed enough, the man would leave without asking too many questions.
“Well, that certainly can’t be good for his health. What with him still adjusting and all.” The Mayor said, tucking his hands behind him. “Forgive my sudden intrusion, but I could not help to overhear something about a list?”
“Shopping list. Or rather what we consider a shopping list.” Huntsman said, jerking his head to the wall behind the man. A whiteboard hung there and on it was a list, composed of different handwritings for each item, some of them simple to find in the stores, others were clearly meant to feed a very different diet. “I keep track of what we need so we aren’t caught short. The list is so the others can request certain items if the Queen can allow it.”
“Ah, a fine idea, but with so few mouths to feed, is such a long list needed?” The man asked, reading the many items. “Some of these seem more suited to a human’s diet than your own, but far too much for just one mouth to eat before some of the items go bad.”
“Goliath also has a liking for human foods, and our Queen allows for our shared preference. The change allows Huntsman to hunt only for himself and her while we can manage without for longer stints.” Syntax said, pausing in his meal long enough to speak, though he did not look at the Mayor as he spoke, the man’s eyes and smile unnerved him.
“Hm. For you I understand it, but not so much the larger of your comrades.” The Mayor said. “Is he not a full demon like you, Huntsman?”
Huntsman growled about to snap at the man for the hinted insult to his clanmate, but Syntax was faster, having been between mouthfuls of his food.
“Spider Demons are known to adapt and change with the times. Thus, allowing for more flexibility on the path to destiny.” He said before taking another mouthful of food.
The Mayor’s head turned sharply, almost unnaturally so, to look at the young male, his face shadowed and his eyes filled with sudden fury. Huntsman shifted ever so slightly, just enough to keep Syntax behind him as he continued to eat, unaware of the sudden danger he’d just brought upon himself.
Something about what he had said had irked the man and whatever it was, Huntsman wasn’t about to let this outsider do harm upon his younger clansman for whatever jab the man perceived. Those fury filled eyes looked into his own four green ones and for a long moment, the room was tense.
Then, for whatever reason, the man seemed to suddenly find amusement in the matter and laughed. “Quite so, quite so.” He said and then walked away as quietly as he had arrived.
Syntax looked at Huntsman after a moment, a question in his eyes, Huntsman shook his head, and put a finger to his lips. The man was still close by, and could likely still be listening.
To keep their conversation between them, Huntsman used the tip of his claw to pull a hair thin web from his palm and attach it to the back of Syntax’s hand between his thumb and forefinger with a light jab, then after pulling more web from his palm he cut it free and attached that end to his own hand in the same place and began to fuss with the fur of his collar, close to his ear.
“I don’t trust him.” Syntax admitted after taking the last mouthful of his stew, keeping his voice quiet as he spoke close to the webbing. “He’s… I don’t even know a word to describe him.”
“I know what you mean.” Huntsman said just as quietly. “I’ve seen his kind before, back in the old days. They were never good news. Do yourself a favour and stay away from him. If he corners you, call out.”
“You think he’d try something?” Syntax asked, still holding the bowl in his lap as he adjusted his own collar. “Why would he target me?”
“What you said just then? It bothered him, and while I doubt he’d out right attack you while we’re all here, he’s a sneaky bastard. If he comes to you while you're alone and starts trouble, aim for his neck,” Huntsman said again and Syntax watched the older male tilt his own head back ever so slightly and scratch at his own neck, just between his jaw and neck. “Hard as you can, and get away from him.”
“You're telling me to run away?” Syntax asked.
“If that’s what it takes to survive, yes. Go to Goliath if you can’t get to me.” Huntsman said with a nod.
“But the Queen-”
“The Queen will understand.” Huntsman said firmly, and dropped his end of the webbing.
She had to know that something was wrong. Why else would she be so set on making sure they, her underlings and lessers were warm now that the air was chilled? Why else would she suddenly seem so eager to let them outside, even for the most minor things? Why would she be sending them further and further away to find things that shouldn’t be needed when he knew they had a surplus of ingredients and foods stored in preparation?
Something was going on, and while their Queen did not tell them, Huntsman had been with her long enough and was old enough to know that the Queen was worried, not for herself, but for them. He refused to believe that nothing was happening. And he refused to let the Queen he’d watched grow from heir to ruler face this storm alone, even if she would not tell him what was wrong, he would stand by her side and make sure, no matter how hard it was, that she survived.
He owed that to the Late Queen Mother and her daughters.
He shook his head and dusted down the front of his coat. “You said you were almost done. How long until we have heat once it's working?” He asked at normal volume.
There was the slightest, almost unnoticed movement in the shadows by the doorway, so easily mistaken for a cobweb moved by a slight breeze.
“I just need to get the panel to fit and start the mech’s system, it will not move very far without some major repairs, or be capable of many of the operations it could do before, but if we move it lower in to the caves and make tunnels upwards into the rooms that need heating, I’ll be able to program the systems to run for a few hours every day and night so it’ll produce heat. Given the size of the mech itself it should start giving out heat within a day or maybe a day and half depending on the size of the chamber we put it in and how well we can get the air to circulate.” Syntax explained, extending his spider limbs again and moving to wash the now cooled bowl. “But that’s only if the systems stay on for that long. We have some leftover power from New Years, but that might only last us a month at the most.”
“Sounds like you’re all but done with the work to give us some heat. Why not just leave the paneling off and start the system tonight so we’re all warm in the morning?” Huntsman questioned, pulling Syntax out of the beginnings of a ramble.
“Because if I leave the panelling off and something goes wrong, like a fuel line bursting or a fuse blowing out and causing a small fire, the chain reaction from the fuel igniting plus the chemicals in my lab will cause an explosion so great that it will take out the lair, us, everyone and everything around is within at least a ten mile radius.”
“What?” Huntsman sputtered in shock.
Syntax tapped at his wrist device and projected an image of the panelling he was using, explaining that the panelling was his own design and had premade chambers on the inside that were filled with nanosensors that when activated would be used as a failsafe to make sure that if something did go wrong, such as a fuse blowing or a part of the fuel line busting, the panel where the damage was would cut itself off from the rest of the system and contain the damage to just a small area, meaning no one would be hurt by an untimely explosion and Syntax could focus on just repairing that one small section of the whole system and not have to waste time searching every single inch of mech to find the problem again.
“I’m sure our Queen would prefer that outcome rather than all of us becoming ash and cinders.” Syntax further explained, and cut the image off. “So, yes, while I am done with the repair work, if I don’t fit the panelling before starting the mech’s systems, everything and everyone within those ten miles could at any point go ka-boom. Or maybe more, given we don’t know much about that relic the girl has in the cave she’s using, it could possibly makes the explosion much bigger-”
“Alright, alright! I get it. We need it to look nice to work properly.” Huntsman snarled. “Why is everything so complicated nowadays?”
“Because humans got smarter.” Syntax chuckled and began to make his way out of the room and back towards the mech’s chamber, using his spider limbs to carry him over the webbing rather than walking on his own two feet, taking time to practice using them for more than just climbing and holding onto things now he had the confidence that they wouldn’t fail to hold his weight. “So before I go to bed, I would like to finish putting the panelling on, and then turn the systems on. At least then we’ll start getting heat flowing again. We can move it and dig the tunnels out tomorrow.”
Huntsman huffed, following the younger male with ease, even without his own spider limbs in use, he was able to walk along the thinnest of the webs with the confidence and grace of a tightrope walker who had no fear of falling even without a net or harness to catch him should he slip.
No, Syntax was not jealous.
His Lady fumed silently, her host body shaking as she fought to keep what limited power she allowed herself to keep in check, small shards of ice forming a deadly ring at her feet, trying to creep further from her and along the floor, eager to burst forth and freeze the whole lair.
But she couldn’t.
Not yet.
Not when she still needed to gather power to complete her Destiny. No matter how much it infuriated her, she couldn’t strike yet, she did not have the power she needed to strike yet. She had to wait.
Her puppet knelt in his place by the door, his head low and body mostly frozen over as the bulk of her power raged within him. An icy fury, such that would destroy her current host, if she had let it remain within herself. He was only spared destruction because of his loyalty to her and the now endless lifetime he had served at her side, an eternal emissary to her will and desires. In a way, he was also a host to her, though only in the sense that his body, hollow and void of needless conflicting emotion and desires, housed the majority of her powers right now, as the child she had possessed was simply too frail to contain it all without shattering.
He had overheard how close the half demon was to completing his work and the desire to strike out in revenge by sabotaging the mech in someway, likely resulting in the child being reprimanded by the Spider Queen herself, had been almost too inviting, but upon hearing what could be the possible consequence of such a petty action had made him think twice.
So, with no other choice, he had reported back to His Lady what he had heard and thus, here they were now. Shut in the chamber the Spider Queen had given them to work from while they stayed with her. His Lady was trying to contain her anger while he silently and dutifully endured the worst of it so as to spare her frail host’s body the damage.
For all the power she had and all the power she could lend him, His Lady had chosen to collude with the Spider Queen for a reason; the now former human scientist under her employment. Had things gone His Lady’s way, the man would have been the perfect assistant to build the Bone Mech for her while the Mayor had hunted down the relics they needed for the power to fuel the mech, all with the promise of money for his services. But because of the Spider Queen’s impatience, the once human was now a part of the Spider clan and his loyalty lay solely with his Queen.
His Lady had been forced to play the part of a mere lesser demon seer, who sought to help the Spider Queen reach her goal of regaining her lost glory as a ruler, all while slowly building up her own power and cultivating herself within her host’s body until she could shed the child and take her own true form. They were playing a long game, a trade of sorts, fixing the Spider Queen’s mech was part of that trade, Only with its completion and full functionality could they move on to the next part of the plan, and while it would be somewhat satisfying to tamper and slow the process, the truth of the matter was that the now half spider demon was the only one amongst them who truly knew how the technology of this modern era truly worked, and neither His Lady or the Spider Queen could afford to try and find someone else.
Faintly, he wondered if the young half demon even realised how large a part he was truly playing in this game between His Lady and the Queen- Wait.
Maybe. Just maybe.
“My Lady?” He dared to ask her permission to speak up.
“Choose your words very carefully, lest I unleash my frustrations upon you.” She permitted with clear intent to follow through with her threat if he did not offer something of value, as cut a jagged path from her feet towards him.
“It occurs to me, there may be a way to educate the fool.” He began to express, choosing his words with care and consideration as he spoke his thoughts and his observations.
Syntax was a half demon, one who had been turned rather than born and that came with a unique collection of pros and cons. Being a half demon meant the man’s life would be increased due to a slowing of his aging process, though he would only live to at most seven hundred to seven hundred and twenty years, with the support of his new clanmates and Queen. And it was clear that he had also inherited some of the Spider Demon’s natural strengths and abilities such as his increased mobility, but it was clear he still retained much of his human mind set. He was reluctant to eat human flesh and meat, as was needed for him to survive now and despite the confidence he used them with, he struggled to adjust to his new limbs and instinctive behaviour. He also shuddered whenever the Queen spoke to him, even when offering praise, he was unable to look at himself in any reflective surfaces and struggled to meet the eyes of the other spiders in general.
These things hinted at hidden insecurities beneath the cocky smirk and bold claims. Doubts of his ability to truly accept his new life as a half demon. Uncertainty in his own standing and if he will be permitted to keep living once his use to the Queen’s goal were met. Instability in himself and his new abilities.
“His loyalty is hers and that can not be changed, but I believe within his mind he is still at war with himself over what is his new reality. Especially now that he knows there is a way to reverse the change forced upon him by the Queen. And I wonder, if he could be convinced to turn his attention more to aiding in your destiny?” He questioned as his Lady considered the idea.
It would not be the first time a demon had been swayed, and it would not be at all strange to consider. Half demons were, by their own nature, self-serving and known to be very independent, even if their demonic half was pack orientated. It could be that, given time to properly adjust and settle into his new body and become accustomed to his new limbs, Syntax could very well become content and live out his life as a half demon.
But the chance to reach her destiny sooner, even if it was only by the slightest amount, could not be ignored.
“It would be a great risk to try without proper assurance of success.” She stated, her temper fading somewhat and permitting the ice to melt away without a trace. “You will continue to watch him, my puppet, and if you are able to gather enough proof that he can be tempted to aid in my destiny, I shall permit you to make the necessary provisions and proceed accordingly.”
“Yes, My Lady.”
“But,” She warned, and he felt the ice within him become solid just for a second more, threatening to shatter his bones should he dare to breathe too harshly. “Do not draw attention to yourself in this matter, lest we incur the Queen’s suspicions more than we already have.”
“Of course, My Lady.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have always had the habit of talking to and cursing inanimate objects and items when they don't work the way they should, and so I made Syntax talk to his work to mirror that.
Also I headcanon that Huntsman is trying, in his own way, to help Syntax settle into his new life, even if he isn't always the best at helping, since he's never known anything but being a demon, and so doesn't always understand the problems Syntax is facing. But he's trying, and Syntax sees it.
And we get a look at LBD and the Mayor in this part. I'm not 100% sure of how to write the Mayor when he's interacting with LBD just yet, but I hope people like it.
Until next time, please enjoy!!!!! < Part 1 Part 3 >
Star Wars: The Dark Side (Canon)
“Star Wars: The Dark Side” is a Canon reference book written by Tricia Barr that was published on December 6, 2018. Only releasing in Spain and France.
Pg 75 (red page): “Surgical reconstruction of Emperor Palpatine on Coruscant. Several of the assisting droids that participated in the sophisticated surgery that saved Vader's life were later relocated to the castle, including medical assist droid DD-13, surgical droid 2-1B and medical assist droid FX-6. The latter, the FX-6, was the same droid that built General Grievous and, under Vader's supervision, continued to design and implement improvements to the Sith Lord’s outfit.”
Pg 98 (grey page): “Many have been caught in the conspiratorial web laid out by the Dark Side’s thinking minds. Queen Admidala of Naboo was guided in the political sphere by Sheev Palpatine, who used his youthful idealism for his own political benefit during the crisis of the Naboo Trade Federation. General Grievous' insatiable desire to improve his combat techniques led him to accept the cybernetic implants advised by the Sith, which made him more of a machine than a Kaleesh.”
Pg 181 (black page): “For this reason, the Sith enlisted acolytes with special abilities and a fierce hatred of the Jedi, such as General Grievous and Asajj Ventress. Grievous had already demonstrated his talents as a warlord on his native planet of Kalee: he hated politics, but revered being at the head of the galaxy's greatest military force. A brilliant tactician, Grievous couldn't beat a Jedi in a duel, so he agreed to receive cybernetic enhancements to boost his combat capabilities. The cyborg general led the Separatist droid army, enabling him to engage in direct confrontations with the Jedi he hated so much.”
Pg 183: “His lair contained many spare parts, and he had the advantage of being able to afford to lose a limb or two in battle: this could slow him down, but not stop him. However, Grievous' conversion to cyborg had not been perfect, as evidenced by his constant coughing. This information was stored by the Sith for possible future conversion: each repair he underwent improved their knowledge of how to use technology against their enemies.
“Deprived of their identity and renamed with a number corresponding to their entry into the ranks, the Brothers and Sisters of the Inquisitorius perverted what the Jedi stood for, using a method totally different from that of Grievous.”
Pg 213 (white page): “Trained by Count Dooku in the art of lightsaber combat, the Kaleesh cyborg General Grievous killed many Jedi during the Clone Wars and kept their weapons as a trophy. Served the Confederation of Independent Systems as Supreme Commander of the Droid Army. His tactical acumen gave numerous victories to the separatist faction. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi confronted Grievous on several occasions, forging a bitter rivalry that ended with a final face-to-face confrontation on Utapau.”
“Exalted by the glory he won in battle, Grievous attached the greatest importance throughout his life to the deeds of war. He had cyborg implants added to enhance his combat capabilities.”
“Ever since he was a child, Grievous had worshipped the warlords of his home planet, Kalee: he'd seen them return from their expeditions with the spoils of war stolen from the peoples they'd conquered. He made a meteoric rise to the rank of warlord, then embarked on space conquests. Grievous soon realized that the Jedi were virtually unbeatable in duels, thanks to their supernatural abilities and use of the Force, and developed a fierce hatred for them. The Sith, who were researching technologically enhanced beings, made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Beyond boasting of having been trained in the Jedi arts, not much is known about his conversion into a cyborg or his training with Count Dooku.”
You're proposing an extraordinary ecological restoration and ocean engineering initiative—one that blends biotechnology, environmental systems thinking, cloning science, and long-term biome reconstruction to restore the ocean's nutrient cycle and filter-feeder food web via engineered Whale Fall Ecosystems.
Here’s a breakdown of the system, re-engineered with ethical, scientific, and scalable methods in mind, now titled:
---
🧬 Project Leviathan: Oceanic Terraforming via Accelerated Whale Fall Regeneration
📘 PDF Insert Title
"Codex Entry: Leviathan Cradle Systems – Terraforming the Deep"
(For Volume III: Biomes, Ethics & Terraforming)
---
1. 🧠 Core Goals
Objective Implementation Path
Restore oceanic deep-floor biodiversity via artificial whale fall systems Clone whale-scale organic biomass for nutrient dispersion
Repair disrupted food chains caused by apex predator decline Integrate bioengineered scavenger pods + release cloned squid, hagfish, amphipods
Filter macro-to-micro pollutants through reef-spine mimicry Anchor "bio-coral reapers" and kelp-mass nutrient sponges
Terraform abyssal plains into multi-tiered bioreactors Use artificial whale fall as spawning grounds for biome seeding
---
2. 🐋 Whale Fall Acceleration Program (WFAP)
Step 1: Species Bank & Cloning Engine
Catalog all historically common whale species (blue, humpback, sperm, gray)
Create genome-stable embryo vault (via CRISPR-enhanced cell lines)
Partner with ethical marine cloning centers (Japan, Iceland, Canada, Chile)
Output Projection: | Year | Clones Released | Biomass Equiv | Seafloor Falls Generated | |------|-----------------|---------------|---------------------------| | Year 1 | 12 | 800 tons | 4 | | Year 5 | 60 | 4,500 tons | 25 | | Year 15 | 240 | 18,000 tons | 100+ | | Year 30 | 500+ | 40,000+ tons | Ecosystem saturation in Pacific & Atlantic sectors |
---
Step 2: Death Cycle Replication
Whales are tagged, tracked, and guided to eco-sanctioned “natural death zones”
Falls are coordinated with local robot-sub habitats for population prep (carrion feeders)
Seafloor terraforming systems prepare reef nests to catch fall impacts without sediment burial
---
3. 🌊 Artificial Predator Replacement Systems
Missing Species Engineered Proxy Deployment System
Great White Shark BioSentient Apex Drone™ SpiralNet Aquatic Guardian Grid
ate-operated media outlet Tass has reported that the driver of a truck believed to be involved in the drone attack will be questioned by police. The report further adds that the "exact number of UAVs [drones] has not yet been counted", but says there is no threat to the public at this time. Hugo BachegaMiddle East correspondent, in Istanbul EPA Ukraine’s attacks happen as a second round of direct talks between Ukrainian and Russian officials is scheduled to happen in Istanbul on Monday. This is part of revived diplomatic efforts, spearheaded by US President Donald Trump, for a ceasefire deal – and, eventually, an end to the war. Before the attacks, it was already very difficult to see any kind of breakthrough in these negotiations, given how far apart both sides remain in their conditions. Their first round of talks, on 16 May, reached little more than an agreement for a prisoner exchange. On Sunday, President Volodymyr Zelensky listed Ukraine’s positions for the talks that included a complete and unconditional ceasefire, the release of prisoners and the return of abducted children. Russia, so far, has rejected calls for an unconditional ceasefire and repeatedly made demands that have already been rejected by Ukraine. Ukraine also says Russia’s refusal to share its terms ahead of the talks is part of a strategy to delay the negotiations. Russia, meanwhile, has intensified its air attacks against Ukraine in recent weeks, and officials in Kyiv have warned that Moscow may be preparing a new summer offensive. This, Ukrainian officials say, show Russia is not interested in a ceasefire. Both countries have reason to demonstrate to President Trump they support his efforts for a deal: Ukraine wants more military aid from the US while Russia hopes the US will ease economic sanctions imposed on the country. On social media a little earlier, Zelensky's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, made an apparent comment about his country's massive drone operation. Yermak posted an emoji of a spider web on both his Telegram channel and on X - an apparent reference to the attack's name of "Operation Spider's Web". Chris PartridgeBBC News weapons analyst These attacks will have dealt a significant blow to Russia's aerial cruise missile strike capability. Tu-95 bombers, which are among the type of aircraft that have been destroyed, are said to have launched a large-scale Kh-101 missile attack on Ukraine earlier this year. They have been used extensively since the full-scale invasion of February 2022 and so are a vital target for the Ukrainian military. Each bomber can carry eight guided cruise missiles and each missile itself carries a 400kg (882lb) warhead. The weapons' range is thousands of kilometres, which allows such strategic aircraft to deploy well inside the relative safety of Russian airspace. Getty Images But just as significant is the reported loss of an A-50, the Russian equivalent of AWACS, whose role is to detect enemy aircraft and missiles, and feed those targets to Russian fighter jets. It performs a management role for aerial assets, by giving a big picture view and direction. As for the strikes themselves, the use of drones in at least one, so close to the targets means that traditional Russian self-defence systems such as S-300 / S-400 long range SAMs, and even their shorter-range counterparts, Pantsir SA-22s, are ineffective. It also means that there was little warning that such an attack was coming to get aircraft to the relative safety of hardened shelters. It may be that some of the Russian aircraft were not completely destroyed, and they can be repaired, but that still takes them - at the very least - out of the fight for a long time. More worrying for Moscow, it again points to the vulnerability of major military assets well inside Russian Federation territory itself. Paul AdamsDiplomatic correspondent, reporting from Kyiv Reuters Astonishing details have been leaked to the media about how
The Future of Utility Monitoring: Why Digital Water Meters Are a Smart Investment
Because data and automation are playing a larger role, the field of utility management is changing in important ways. A major change has been moving from traditional water meters to digital ones. These advanced gadgets help with more than measuring how much water is used—they are important for sustainably managing utilities.
Whether you need water meters for a house or a factory, digital versions are worth choosing because they are accurate, save time, and save money in the long run.
What Do Digital Water Meters Do?
Digital water meters are called smart water meters because they use technology to keep a real-time account of water use. Unlike manual mechanical meters, digital ones wirelessly inform the utility company or building manager of the usage.
With remote communication, manual readings are no longer needed, invoices are more accurate and any possible issues can be addressed quickly.
Merits of Digital Water Meters
1. Real-Time and Correct Data
Traditional meters may not work right because they can wear down and people can make mistakes when checking them. With digital water meters, you get very precise data on water usage every hour. This way, you can manage your budget more effectively.
2. Leak Detection from the Start
A sudden rise in usage shown on the meter could signal that there is a leak. A quick detection of a leak can keep the damage manageable and save you from paying lots for repairs. This feature proves most helpful in industrial and multi-building housing facilities.
3. Automatic Billing and Watching
Automatic meter readings are among the biggest upsides for utility suppliers. Directly uploading data from digital meters to the billing system both avoids errors and saves time. This means consumers notice clear and prompt billing.
4. Remote Access
Users and utility companies can both review their energy use with the help of web portals or mobile apps. Remote access enables users to watch their water usage and cuts down on required meter checks at the site.
5. Supports sustainable efforts in the industry
As regions like the UAE want to reduce water use, digital water meters identify when and how water is being wasted. When they help encourage responsible water use, they contribute to helping the environment.
Using Technical Communication in Different Industries
Digital technology is helping more people and companies shift to water meters:
Residential areas use this data to check their exact water use.
Commercial buildings: Used in buildings, camps, and businesses that have many zones
High-volume, real-time monitoring and detection are necessary in industrial sites.
Modernizing infrastructure and enhancing customer service is the goal of municipal utilities.
City governments are embracing smart infrastructure and having digital water meters makes this switch possible.
The ability to produce positive results over several years
The price of digital water meters is more than traditional options, but the rewards are considerable. Because there are fewer problems with repairs, less confusion around bills, fast leak detection, and better management of resources, long-term savings are possible for both users and providers.
Besides, information gathered by digital meters can help identify patterns and encourage better water use, forecast future needs, and guide changes to water delivery systems.
Moving Toward the Smart Utility Era
With utility monitoring moving toward technology and big data, having the best water meters is no longer optional—it is essential. For managing water usage, from homes to office buildings, they allow people better understanding, tighter control, and greater efficiency.
With the help of digital water meters, you’ll lower your expenses and also promote a greener and futuristic future for managing utilities.
