TS4, DirectX 11, and ReShade
Patch notes today say that finally (finally!) The Sims 4 is moving over to use the DirectX 11 rendering api. Until now TS4 has used DirectX 9, which has given us some limitations when using ReShade.
They're bringing the official rollout sometime in the future, but for now you can opt in to switching to DirectX 11 on a voluntary basis.
You don't need to uninstall your game or install a new version. To switch to using DirectX 11, update your game with today's patch, and then click on Manage > View Properties from the The Sims 4 game page on EA App and enter -dx11 in the advanced launch options box. You can remove this at any time to go back to using DirectX 9.

Note: the game developers have warned in the patch notes that some mods may have visual glitches until they are updated to accommodate dx11, so it may be advisable to wait until your mod authors have confirmed everything works okay
If you have ReShade installed currently for DirectX 9 you can make it start using DirectX 11 instead by finding the d3d9.dll inside your Bin folder and changing its name to dxgi.dll. No need to uninstall and reinstall ReShade, that's all you need to do. If you want to go back to using dx9, just revert the name back to d3d9.dll.

The main benefit of using ReShade under DirectX 11 is that you'll have access to more shaders than usual. You've probably noticed a lot of red errors (also known as compiling errors) -- those are more often than not these days caused by DirectX 9 limitations.

i had to reinstall reshade...again oh AND sims 3 (i will save you the long story/vent about how EA app deleted my bin file and DELETED MOONIECAKE because it was so long and trite @cupidia literally packed up and moved to escape it.)
if you are using reshade 4.9.1 i suggest you tweak your global preprocessor definitions it makes a HUGE different, especially with MXAO!

reshade issues with sims 2
idk WHAT it is, but i am getting so frustrated: so ive been working intensely on my sims 2 game, especially with reshade
the issue im having is that i am using the turnip head reshade preset -- works fine but despite my PC being able to run everything (i have a pretty powerful gaming laptop) it lags a bit which kinda frustrates me
but ANYTIME i wanna switch over to a different preset, my game crashes -- and then i uninstalled reshade for the fifth time, and reinstalled it with the preset i actually wanted to use (bright and early) and then the game crashed when opening immediately upon loading and i don't know what to do! ive had the issue happen with sims 3 where reshade would crash my game but i think i rolled back versions and it worked but i just wanna use reshade with the sims 2 😭
im using osab's sims 2 RPCU installer for the ultimate collection and ive tried without mods and it was still crashing without mods -- is there anyway this can be fixed? i liked the turnip head reshade but like i said, it lags a little bit and i really want to use the bright and early by erasabledinosaur

RESHADE TEXTURES HELP PLEASE!
So my problem is this.
I'm trying to use textures for reshade presets for FFXIV that I know are supposed to work because of the included previews. The only problem is that the textures are *not* loading in at all.
For example, here is the preview of Elvashade's Galaxy preset. First the preview, and then my screenshot taken with the preset, no changes done.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Completely borked.
What guides and help from people on twitter is that the thing that I need to use to use the textures is this .fx right here:
Tumblr media
But I don't have Layer.fx anywhere! Not even Galaxy! Not on any other preset that uses it!
I am on the latest build of Reshade. I have updated (most) of the .fx's that gave errors on compiling. Except LUTTools.fx. I dont know how to stop it from being red with the text "[LUTTools.fx] failed to compile"
If that's somehow related, please let me know!
All my internet searches have not born any sort of fruit, so I'm hoping that people here on tumblr can help me out! Please!!! I would like to use the thin white box on screens without having to put it there manually!

GShade issues, anyone?
I keep trying to check for updates and it just keeps saying update check failed. When I open Sims 4, at the top there's a message that says something about my DNS settings.
I am NOT tech-savvy whatsoever, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, friends!
UPDATE!!! READ THREADS AND LOOK INTO RESHADE
Thanks to @holocene-sims for providing me some links, I went digging deep into Tumblr and Twitter. It's looking like GShade might be completely done after some malware and internal drama, so folks may want to look into going back to ReShade. I've provided some links below and I'll try to update this as I find out more information:
Moving from GShade to ReShade
Twitter Feed of ongoing issues
Good luck, everyone!

Hi there! I plan to start using Reshade and absolutely adored the aesthetic your presets have. I was looking into Reshade and it appears the current version is 5.8. Would your presets be compatible with it? Greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations you can provide. Cheers! ✨
I love reshade! I recommend using reshade 4.9.1. (if you are playing sims 3 1.69 on origin then the modded version) for my presets.
You can use other version of reshade or gshade but you probably be missing shaders and/or multiluts might not work!
I include a pic of what the UI/preset should look like in game with my downloads so you can see if everything looks correct.

I reinstalled reshade recently (v 3.0.8) and Idk if you've had this issue, but currently I'm dealing with an annoying thing using it- basically when I go into tab mode while using reshade, there are certain parts which sometimes turn incredibly dark? Idk if that makes sense but it's like almost everything goes black not sure if it's the mxao or what but it's just weird.. Is there any way I could have a ss of the dof and mxao settings to see if they're all correct? Many thanks in advanced!
The DOF does not impact the intensity of the MXAO so I don't think the settings are going to be of much help. I am not sure what preset you're using to be able to show you the intended MXAO settings, but if you open the preset with the Notes application it will load a text version of all the preset settings. You could try that with an unaltered version of the preset.
For whatever reason, my MXAO settings do not translate the same in everyone's game. I like my MXAO strong, and it is configured that way in most of the presets I've shared publicly, but how that looks when it's loaded in a game other people's games is different. I've seen in screenshots I've tagged that it'll look really dark and sharp, and not diffused in the way I configured it in my own game. When MXAO is maxed out or the settings are overclocked (by this I just mean set higher than 3), it can cause glitching where it flashes in and out.
My recommendation would be to turn down the MXAO settings, specifically the intensity setting. I would bring it to a value below 2. I may also recommend you adjust the diffused settings. I would also make sure your drivers are up to date, and you do not have an in-game overlay like NVIDIA or Origin because those have been known to cause problems for ReShade.
Also, remember that MXAO configurations look different in tab mode and if you're too zoomed in it will get dark and muddy. With some screenshots, you have to find that sweet spot.
