Queer and trans folk around the world often take an interest in the athletes from our community, and Outsports even collects a database of all the the out LGBTQ competitors. While JK Rowling and 99 percent of conservative media were harassing two cis women boxers, 195 QT athletes represented 26 nations and none, but we’ll get to that. That makes this the queerest Olympics ever, beating out the total of 186 out athletes in Tokyo and, if Queer Nation granted citizenships, would be the 14th largest national contingent at the games. That hypothetical Queer Nation would also have placed sixth in the medal count, tying the Netherlands with 15 golds but falling neatly between the Dutch and host country France on the strength of silvers and bronzes.
One happy bit of news is that in both golds and overall medal count, Queer Nation beat out every single country in the world that criminalizes same-sex boinking. The only bad news seems to be that people competing in the men’s events seem a little underqueered compared to the women. Can’t we at least get a few interested in the Greco-Roman wrestling? Yr Wonkette is just asking.
...
Sure, justice in silver and gold for badass bisexual Black woman Sha’Carri Richardson, excluded from Tokyo on the basis of smoking legal weed in Eugene, Oregon, was as sweet as sativa; it was fun to see Diana Taurasi go out on the queer top with her sixth Olympic gold in a row (team USA’s eighth consecutive women’s basketball gold); and seeing the shoulders on those women rugby players was a dream come true. But we want to speak about someone who didn’t represent any country at all: Cindy Ngamba.
Ngamba is a middleweight (75kg) boxer originally from Cameroon. At 11 years old some family members fled to the United Kingdom as refugees, and brought Ngamba along. The family maintains it had the proper approval for Cindy, but that when her uncle returned to Cameroon it was lost. The UK Home Office has been threatening to deport her since the age of 16, when she was accepted to university and realized she couldn’t produce her visa for her college paperwork.
Despite the threats, Ngamba fought and won many times in the UK’s amateur boxing competitions, having started as a hobbyist in the local Bolton Lads and Girls Club program. She also went on to get an undergraduate degree with honors, all while threats of deportation hung over her head. After winning a UK national championship, she met then-PM Theresa May celebrating her win and the efforts of the Lads & Girls Club where she trained. One might think that the UK might eventually forgive an 11-year-old girl for not keeping track of her paperwork herself, but the Home Office has remained resolute denying Ngamba regularized status.
What makes all this both horrifyingly inhumane and also relevant to this article is that Ngamba is an out lesbian. She has been consistently denied a path to citizenship or even legal residency, only escaping deportation because of her ability to document horror after horror inflicted on queer residents of Cameroon. International law prohibits sending a refugee back to their nation of citizenship or previous residence if they would face persecution and risk of great harm, a crime called “refoulement.”
“If I was sent back, I can be in danger,” Ngamba said. “So, I was given the refugee status to be safe and protected."
Unable to represent the UK and unable to compete in qualifying competitions in Cameroon, Ngamba got an opportunity that no other stateless athlete had ever shared before 2016: she was named to the IOC Refugee Olympic Team. So far that team has only been allowed to compete in the summer games, and only in Rio, Tokyo, and this year in Paris. (They will be allowed to compete in the Winter Games for the first time in 2026.) Given the incredible barriers most refugees face, it is perhaps not surprising that no Refugee Team member has ever won a medal. But while Ngamba has faced incredible legal problems and a ruthlessly anti-immigrant government her entire time in the UK, she at least had better training facilities in her local Lads & Girls than most refugees can dream.
And the dreams paid off. Team Refugee got its first medal ever when Ngamba took home middleweight bronze. "I just want to tell every refugee out there, whether they are an athlete or not, to never give up,” she said after being asked to carry the Olympic flag at the opening of the games. When she won, the whole refugee team took to the internet to celebrate:
“The Refugee Olympic Team is incredibly proud of Cindy Ngamba, the first EOR athlete and the first-ever refugee medallist at the Olympics,” the team posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Today, we are speechless. Cindy did it. Refugees did it!”
Yes, yes you did.

The plans would see the construction of more than 1,700 new homes for Israeli settlers. There are already around 200,000 Israelis living in illegal settlements in Palestinian East Jerusalem, which Israel annexed in 1967.
"If it weren't for the war (on Gaza), there would be a lot of noise. It's a highly problematic project for the continuity of a Palestinian state between the southern West Bank and east Jerusalem," said Hagit Ofran from the Israeli NGO Peace Now.
The move was condemned by regional states, with Turkey saying that settlements damage efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
“It is completely unacceptable that Israel approved a plan to build approximately 1,800 settlements on 186 acres of land in East Jerusalem," Turkey’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
...
Egypt also slammed the move as a blatant violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, urging Israel to halt the construction of illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land in a foreign ministry statement.

Hi, I am currently rereading One Piece and posting notes about the chapters. Feel free to share your own thoughts.
WARNING: I'm caught up so there will be SPOILERS for future chapters and plot developments.
Volume 20 Chapter 177 [Alabasta Arc]
Love the level of faith in Luffy strawhats show at the beginning of this chapter. And it gets to Vivi too despite all the stress and worries. Great start.
Pretty grounded speech there from Luffy. Again, it makes more sense with his backstory with Sabo and Ace.
Some more hints that Robin is playing on her own.
I am usually not the one to be super excited about fighting panels, but I think this fight is my favourite since Arlong Park.
Volume 20 Chapter 178 [Alabasta Arc]
I think the first time reading I was pretty shocked by the ending. Sure, I knew Luffy would recover somehow, but it was kind of sudden, definitely caught me off guard. And that shading too, beautiful panels.
Volume 20 Chapter 179 [Alabasta Arc]
Very gruesome panels at the beginning. That’s the most damage Luffy has taken at once so far. Also I feel it is at this point Luffy gets a hint at how to defeat Croc because his hook goes through a water bottle and his weakness gets exposed.
Volume 20 Chapter 180 [Alabasta Arc]
Love Nami’s outfit on the cover.
Some more development for Robin. Curious about the letter D.
Ok, so Igaram did survive. Good.
Tohtoh is so good at representing common folk in this arc. Actually I think Oda does a really good job at introducing endearing secondary characters with soul and determination at every new kingdom or island.
Yep, I was right about those cute creatures saving the day.
Love the Ducks squad. Cool design choices for the one with a cigar and the other with what I assume to be a bottle of alcohol.
Volume 20 Chapter 181 [Alabasta Arc]
Love strawhats plan with the disguise. As far as I remember Vivi is taking the other way, and all others serve as a distraction for Baroque Works agents. Didn’t expect Eyelashes to be in the group too.
Volume 20 Chapter 182 [Alabasta Arc]
Wait, who is that escaping person or creature on the cover?
It may be stupid to stand in front of the approaching army like that, but it does look pretty cool and heroic. Props to Vivi for that.
Volume 20 Chapter 183 [Alabasta Arc]
X marks reveal. Props to Zoro, it is pretty smart.
Karoo is certainly the MVP of this chapter. What an effort!
Volume 20 Chapter 184 [Alabasta Arc]
Love the tricks Usopp uses during the fight. However I’m not into baseball so I'm not very excited about this chapter. It gets better in the end though.
Volume 20 Chapter 185 [Alabasta Arc]
Appreciate the effort both Usopp and Chopper are putting into it, but I’m kind of ready to move on. The reveal of Usopp’s tricks were pretty fun though.
Volume 20 Chapter 186 [Alabasta Arc]
Right, forgot how durable Usopp can be. He is the most dangerous when he is beaten half to death. And what a good lesson for Chopper. Also every time a strawhat shows the level of trust they have in their captain is an iconic scene for me because you know something epic and emotional is about to happen. From the top of my head I remember a similar scene with Nami in Wano, but I’m sure there is a lot more like it even before that arc.
Still think the fight was a bit too long, but the resolution is perfect.

President Javier Milei on Wednesday sacked Argentina's Foreign Minister Diana Mondino after the country voted at the UN in favor of lifting the six-decade US embargo on Cuba, the presidency said.
"The new foreign minister of Argentina is Mr. Gerardo Werthein," presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni wrote on X, hours after Argentina joined 186 other UN members who voted in favor of lifting the embargo imposed on communist-run Cuba since 1962.
Werthein was previously Argentina's ambassador to the United States.
Only two countries, the United States and Israel, both allies of Milei, voted against Wednesday's resolution, while one country, Moldova, abstained.
Moments after Mondino's sacking was announced, Milei retweeted a post by a lawmaker who said she was "proud of a government that does not support nor is an accomplice to dictators. Viva #CubaLibre."
Argentina has traditionally voted against the embargo on Cuba.
Local media quoted foreign ministry sources as saying that while it was awkward diplomatically for Argentina to have opposed the US and Israel, the votes of Cuba and its allies would be needed in any future resolutions on Argentina's claim of sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, a British territory.

Practically every country supports a cease fire, 153/193 countries (technically 186, as 7 countries didn’t have representatives available to vote), in today’s vote which is unfortunately a non-binding resolution.
Of note, you don’t see Palestine on the list, because Palestine isn’t a recognized country for UN General Assembly votes. They are only an observing member, due to blocks by (checks notes) oh the same fuckers perpetuating this genocide, the US and Israel.

Israel has approved the building of a major new settlement in occupied East Jerusalem in violation of international law, as it faces accusations of genocide over its indiscriminate war on the besieged Gaza Strip.
The Jerusalem District Planning Committee approved a plan to build a "new Jewish neighbourhood that will be partly located in East Jerusalem", the Times of Israel reported on Tuesday.
'Violation of international law'
The move was condemned by regional states, with Turkey saying that settlements damage efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
“It is completely unacceptable that Israel approved a plan to build approximately 1,800 settlements on 186 acres of land in East Jerusalem," Turkey’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
It said that the expansion "seriously undermines the prerequisite principles for permanent peace" and accused Israel of "further violating international law".
Egypt also slammed the move as a blatant violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, urging Israel to halt the construction of illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land in a foreign ministry statement.
Israel has constructed hundreds of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

How can crowdsourcing aid in battling the COVID-19 pandemic?
What is Crowdsourcing?
Crowdsourcing is a distributed online problem-solving and innovative sourcing paradigm where participants of online communities collaborate to accomplish a common objective (Vermicelli et al., 2020; Zhang et al., 2022). It supplements conventional data gathering by collecting massive amounts of data and information from individuals worldwide.

Crowdsourcing Initiatives for COVID-19 Pandemic
Crowdfight
An endeavour spearheaded by the scientific community with the intention of mobilizing all accessible resources to combat the COVID-19 pandemic (Vermicelli et al., 2020). It is designed for COVID-19 researchers who wish to submit a brief description of their inquiries or projects. The request may involve anything from a straightforward but time-consuming task (e.g., data transcription) to the resolution of a technical inquiry that exceeds their area of expertise or the establishment of a collaborative relationship. Further, another scientist within the community will try to comprehend and fulfill the demand.

COVID Near You
Created by Harvard Medical School and Boston Children's Hospital, which allows individuals to report symptoms in real-time by ZIP code (Zhang et al., 2022). Using crowdsourced data, it maps existing and future pandemic areas to help local, online communities and public health organizations track disease progression. Public reporting of COVID-19 signs may supplement public health monitoring and assist people in determining where symptoms are happening in their community (Fliesler, 2020).
Open Innovability - Call4Ideas COVID-19 Challenge
The crowdsourcing platform Open Innovability by Enel hosts the Call4Ideas COVID-19 Challenge, launched by Marzotto Venture Accelerator and Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome (Vermicelli et al., 2020, p. 186). This is an open invitation to everyone within the online communities who has innovative projects or ideas that could potentially turned into an entrepreneurial endeavour to assist the Italian system in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. This challenge encompasses various areas, including medical and personal protective equipment, telemedicine and home care, diagnostics, therapy and post-therapy.

Types of Crowdsourcing
While there are four main types of crowdsourcing, this blog will specifically delve into one of them, which is crowdfunding (Cricelli et al., 2021).
Crowdfunding: Soliciting financial contributions and investments for charitable endeavours, initiatives, and entrepreneurial ventures, without the intention of providing monetary returns to the contributors (SendPulse, 2023).
Crowdfunding Campaigns for COVID-19
MaybankHeart-MERCY
The objective of the campaign was to generate financial resources for Mercy Malaysia's COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan which offers crucial assistance to Malaysia's healthcare system by providing medical supplies and other vital necessities (Maybank, 2020). Additionally, it aims to support frontliners and volunteers, who are actively combating the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, it would furnish vital provisions and support to marginalized factions within the community, guaranteeing their access to aid throughout the MCO. In only two weeks, Maybank and Mercy Malaysia received almost RM300,000 for their ‘COVID-19 Pandemic Fund’ after public support. Donations are processed via the online banking platform Maybank2u.
Asnaf Care
Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK) developed Asnaf Care, a virtual crowdfunding platform that was introduced on March 26, 2020, to raise money for asnaf (have-nots Muslim) in Negeri Kedah who suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 18 March 2020, Asnaf Care has asked the local and online communities to help distribute food to individuals experiencing food shortages under the Restriction Movement Order (Eldersevi & Muhammad, 2021).

Crowdsourcing Initiatives to Combat Infodemic during COVID-19 Pandemic
The proliferation of misinformation persisted without restraint on publicly accessible social media platforms such as Facebook. In Malaysia, Facebook, and Twitter have spread the misleading concepts that alkaline foods may treat COVID-19 (Yang, 2021). In response to the difficulties posed by the infodemic, crowdsourcing endeavours have prioritized the development of websites containing reliable data and information about COVID-19, with the backing of established fact-checking efforts.
CoronaTracker.com
CoronaTracker.com was established in late January 2020, during a period when widespread reports of COVID-19 compelled communities to attempt in comprehending the situation (Yang, 2021). Malaysian data scientist utilized LinkedIn, Facebook, and Telegram to recruit individuals from online communities to cooperate on pandemic remedies, receiving responses from across the globe. The site shows worldwide COVID-19 outbreak statistics, including reported cases, recovery, and fatalities in impacted nations.
KawalCOVID19
KawalCOVID19 is another crowdsourcing initiative that adopts data-centric methodologies to provide precise and reliable information about COVID-19 in Indonesia (Yang, 2021). Its webpage has current information on confirmed cases, medication, recovery, and mortality. Notably, KawalCOVID19 reviews its portal content with medical community including doctors, virologists and epidemiologists to assure accuracy. Moreover, KawalCOVID19 provides links access to the authoritative sites of World Health Organization and official Indonesian government site. In an effort to counteract falsehoods associated with the pandemic, KawalCOVID19 and the Indonesian Anti-Slander Community (Mafindo) collectively gathered deceptive information from unidentified volunteers to verify its accuracy.

In conclusion, crowdsourcing has been shown to be a crucial asset in combating COVID-19 in physical and online communities, providing a wide range of viable alternatives. It facilitates the accumulation of real-time information and the development of innovative approaches by enabling global community collaboration through online crowdsourcing initiatives such as Crowdfight, COVID Near You and Open Innovability. Additionally, the ability of crowdfunding initiatives such as MaybankHeart-MERCY and Asnaf Care to amass financial backing for COVID-19 is underscored. Concurrently, crowdsourcing effectively negates misinformation through the provision of accurate information within online communities, as exemplified by initiatives such as KawalCOVID19 and CoronaTracker.com. Fundamentally, crowdsourcing manifests itself as a complex entity, capitalizing on collaborative endeavours to efficiently address the obstacles posed by COVID-19.

dot. line up, leaving the bike aside, and they are not scaled it's also something we have to figure out, which we tried to guess but now we have the exact dimensions of the bike based on its 25" rims
he's using the same tires all over the place, because the set we have used for the bike work at the +8°to -8° amplitude that we want, and because as long as we stay in their ratio 25"x 9" so 9/25 gives us 0.36 any other tires that we scale up will fit
I guess wider tires too since width would be directed to the inside and we still have way to go before meeting suspension blocks , it's really the overall diameter vs the widebody
it's not easy figuring out the scale of each vehicle, the bike is larger than a Goldwing, maybe the Spyder is about the same length but wider, and that would be very wide...
25" for the bike 25.7" for Spyder 28" for Drifter 32" for Fatboy
maybe
how to go about scaling them is Fatboy is 100% and taking it from there based on tire sizes, because resolution wise you are much better off scaling down than scaling up
for later
Laters
ps. why not 36" for Fatboy, why not I mean, after that these things are already as wide as a truck so there is such a thing as road regulations
design notes continued: in the end we are going for it regulations wise safer that way, 8.6ft or 2.62m is the maximum RV width in the US basically it should apply elsewhere except in the UK, where the roads are narrower for some reason, well historically in London, however
and making use of that, going for the maximum allowed for Fatboy it's pretty much an RV
262 for Fatboy 240 for Drifter 222 for Spyder 200 for QUAD 186 for the bike
it's another way to go about it, and it allows us to turn the regulations to our benefit, tires come in all kinds of ratios and sizes, regulations are set because roads already exist, it's the same thing for railroads
Portion of the tires exceeding from the body included that way it's tight, so these are overall widths
