notes: ahhhhhhhh im gonna miss writing for this series, so here’s a little post family ties service for you guys! scream spoilers utc.
finale tags: @callsignwidow
After the current events that had shadowed her past life, (y/n) dropped out of Blackmore, not knowing if she would be able to handle the school’s atmosphere after she and her friends literally had gotten attacked there.
What was worse than her not going back, was the fact that her life would never be normal again. Nothing would ever be the same, and it would have to go on like that from there.
No more normal.
As she sat in her hospital room, she watched as the news reported on the Ghostface killings that just had occurred in and around Blackmore University, pulling her legs to her chest as she felt the feelings beginning to overwhelm her.
“Among the bodies found were the New York Police Department’s own Detective Wayne Bailey, alongside nineteen-year-old Blackmore University students Quinn Bailey and Ethan Landry.”
The tears started to fall rapidly down (y/n)’s face at the mention of her dead fiance, knowing that she had lost the one person that truly ever loved her, besides her sister.
There was nobody to console her anymore, as both of her parents cut contact with her after finding out that her boyfriend was related to the other killer of the Woodsboro attacks in 2022.
After the death of her sister Amber, all (y/n) had left was Ethan.
Now that he was dead as well, she had nothing to turn to anymore.
“It is reported that the Detective and the two students were related, being the family of Richie Kirsch, one of the killers in the Woodsboro Massacre of 2022.”
(y/n) wished that this was all a dream, that Sam and Tara had finally gotten what they deserved for the deaths of Richie and Amber, and that her father and sister-in-law were successful in killing the Carpenter sisters and survived.
She wished that Ethan was still alive.
“Also being rumoured tonight, is that the sole survivor of this ‘Ghostface Family’ is none other than (y/n) Freeman, who is the sister of Amber Freeman, the other known killer of the Woodsboro Massacre in 2022. Online, there was a circulation that Ethan and (y/n) were engaged and that-”
(y/n) quickly shook her head; this wasn’t real, they weren’t reporting on her private life, they didn’t know that yet, how could they have possibly known that? Only Sam and Tara knew, and that was at the big reveal, nobody else knows.
(y/n) ran her hands through her hair as the reporting didn’t stop, the world was getting too close to knowing who she really was and what her involvement was with the killings; she needed to get out of here, she needed to run, she needed to-
“(y/n)?”
(y/n) quickly whipped her head around to see a very much alive Ethan, which she didn’t believe in the slightest; regardless, she jumped out of her bed and ran to him instantly and hugged him.
He felt real, but why didn’t it seem right?
“Ethan?” She stuttered out of shock, “H-how are you alive? T-They... You’re supposed to be dead!”
As Ethan chuckled, a small smile appeared on his face as he cupped (y/n)’s face in his hand, “Dead?” He questioned, stepping closer to her, “Do you know what’s easier than getting away with murder?”
Closing the gap between them, Ethan leaned in to kiss (y/n) passionately, the second kiss coming off as softer than the first.
“Cheating death.”
── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──
“Come on! She’s been having these dreams for months now, sis. I should be the expert in ghosts, here!”
“I know. But still. It’s normal for someone like her. Doesn’t that Carpenter girl still see visions of her dad?”
“I wish I had visions of her dad.”
“Can’t you be serious for once? She’s part of the same messed up family we are in!”
(y/n) groaned as she sat up, glancing at the photo she printed out of when Richie captured the perfect shot of Ethan proposing to her, the engagement ring beside it on her nightstand.
Sighing, she slowly got up and walked out into the kitchen, meeting the two pairs of eyes that saved her.
“There’s the final girl!”
The person who spoke earned an elbow to the stomach after their comment, then clutching over onto the counter dramatically, moaning.
“That hurt!”
“Yeah, well so did losing her boyfriend.” She turned back over to (y/n), “How you doing sweetie? Still having dreams of him?”
(y/n) nodded solemnly as she tucked various strands of hair behind her ears, “I refuse to give him up. Tara and Sam should be the ones dead. Not him.”
The woman sighed as she understood the girl’s pain, “I know. When my son got murdered by your sister, I was mad at first, but after what happened to you, I lightened up. Just a bit.”
“Do you know where they are now?”
“The holidays are coming up soon. You might catch them back in New York for Christmas.”
“They’re not traumatized?” (y/n) said in disbelief, smiling a bit, “I think by now they would be traumatized. Two Ghostface killings, dead lovers, killing my entire family and my baby Ethan.”
She watched a grin form on the other’s face, glancing at the fridge, swearing she had seen Ethan just standing there.
“Is Sidney going to be there this time?” She had asked, out of sheer curiosity.
“I think so. Gale too.”
“Ooh!” The other had exclaimed, “It’s gonna be a real fiesta, sis!”
The woman tutted before shaking her head, “Not this time. We have to let the girl practice, Stu.”
“But can’t he give me a briefing on Ghostface 101? It wouldn’t be the perfect revenge plan without at least some schooling, Leslie.”
Leslie eventually gave in and sighed, “Alright,” walking to the fridge, she grabbed a beer, “You can give her a couple of tips on killing people. But do not let it get too far.”
“Okay! You’re gonna love it, (y/n), I gotta thank you for getting my mask back.” Stu paused, getting all giddy and nostalgic again, “I’ll be right back!” He had said dramatically, before running off to his room.
Looking into the black hallway, she watched as Ethan attempted to say an ‘I love you’ with his hands, to which (y/n) had responded out loud.
“I love you more.”
(so what did you guys think??? this wasn’t my actual original plan lol. also what is your stance on the stu still being alive theory? + also (y/n) has visions of ethan now; thoughts?)

This post is just to get some things off my chest. I want to start off by saying I'm the kind of person who actually wants and hopes every Ghostface killer gets some kills. I know some people will pass it off as me being an Amber fan and being blinded by it but before Amber, Jill was my number one favorite Ghostface (now second) and I can fully admit she did not kill a damn person until she was unmasked. I really watch and pay attention when coming to these conclusions. It's not me just being an Amber fanboy. I love Richie and wish he did some kills but I personally don't believe he did and that's what this post will be about, explaining my theories and opinions. Before going through the attacks and kills I want to do a little explanation. People jump to the conclusion that Amber likes to "staby stab" while Richie likes to go for the throats but I personally believe Amber doesn't have any one way of killing. I think Amber’s smarter than the fandom makes her out to be and knows she has to go for the surprise quick kills when she knows she has a strong victim. It doesn’t always work out for her though which is why she resorts to stabbing repeatedly. She adjusts her style to the victim/situation, which I'll explain further through each attack/kill. First up is the attack on Tara. I think most of the fandom can come to an agreement that this was Amber, although I have seen some people argue it was Richie. The explanation is pretty simple though, when Richie claims he was in Modesto Sam doesn't dispute it and with how overprotective she is of Tara she definitely would of called out if he was out of her sight long enough to do the attack. Therefore, this was Amber. This is also the first time Amber seemingly goes for Tara's throat as well, something some people claim is Richie's style, but Tara stops the knife.
Tumblr media
Next up is Vince's kill who most of the fandom believes is Richie because of the throat stab. For this to be Richie he would’ve had to sneak away from Sam and Tara, count on them not waking up and without being spotted by the hospital staff and guards to kill Vince whereas Amber and the gang got kicked out of the bar and it was late, we have no context after that so they could've split to go home which would be when Amber stuck over to kill Vince. She knew Vince was stronger than her and he was armed with a knife so she was smart enough to go for a surprise quick kill. Intermission on the attacks/kills to defend Amber from those of you who call her stupid and obvious for using her own phone to make the calls. During the attack on Sam in the hospital we know Amber was being questioned at the sheriff's station so how could she have made the call? This means Richie called from "Amber's phone" but in the next scene we see Amber hand her phone to Judy. When would Richie have had time to give back Amber's phone? This would mean they actually cloned her phone, incase there was anyway for the police finding out it wasn't actually cloned or even just for the sake of Richie having the option to use it which I think is actually a smart move. Again, I think most of the fandom can collectively agree that Amber killed Judy but I want to go over the attack because it comes into play with my theory that Amber does throat kills. Like Tara's attack, it seems Amber goes for Judy's throat but she also stops the knife. To overpower Judy she has to use both her hands (which will come up again in this post.)
Tumblr media
While people think Richie killed Wes, things don't add up for me. Why open the door? If Amber was already outside and Richie was inside, Amber would just head to the hospital and Richie would not need to lure Wes to the front door he could've just fucked with him in the kitchen. Furthermore, after killing Wes, Richie would have to find a ride back to the hotel while picking up a pizza all before Sam called him. Wes' attack is also very similar to Judy and Dewey (which I'll get to.) All three almost get a knife to the throat before it's stopped and Amber had to use both of her hands.
Tumblr media
Side note: this might not be much evidence but I thought it was worth noting but Wes’ kill seemed VERY personal. The way this Ghostface held the knife in his throat while staring into his eyes as he coughed up blood. We already know Wes and Amber were beefing over Tara so it makes perfect sense she’d want to kill him. Next up is the deputy who had his throat slit when Tara's attacked in the hospital. It doesn't make sense for Richie to do this because he would've had to first get to the hospital, dress up in his Ghostface costume incase someone walked in on him or the kill on the deputy was unsuccessful then get undressed. Amber was already there and in her Ghostface costume and as I mentioned before, Amber's smart enough to go for a kill style that's a quick kill when it comes to stronger/armed victims. I believe while she was killing the deputy, Richie shut the lights off because we here him open the door and walk up to Tara, insinuating he just showed up. Since it's confirmed Dewey's attack was done by Amber (despite the morons that believe there was a secret mastermind) because Richie was present, we can look at how she attacks and handles her knife. This is the fourth instant that Ghostface aims for the throat, fails and has to use both hands.
Tumblr media
Going against the theory that Amber likes to stab, stab, stab that some people believe and further supporting my theory that she likes to change it up and doesn't have one style, she only stabs Dewey with two knifes and pulls them up. She went for that quick and fatal kill because Dewey put up a good fight and she knew she couldn't fuck around anymore and had to get the job done.
Tumblr media
We know Amber attacks Chad but since she uses her "stab like crazy" tactic, it doesn't help my point that she has other kill styles. So moving on... This last scene I want to talk about is actually Richie but I feel like people are going to bring it up so lets talk about it. When Mindy is attacked, we know this is Richie because shortly after, Amber comes in with Tara where she claims to have been with Tara the whole time with Tara not disputing it and there isn't any way she could have gotten out of her costume that fast without Tara seeing her anyway. Also; Jack Quaid, the actor for Richie, was under the costume in real life for this scene. So why am I bringing the scene up? Well it kind of conflicts with my theory since Richie also seems to use the same tactic in this scene that Amber's used on Tara, Judy, Dewey (and Wes which is is one of the kills that is up for debate in the fandom.) The tactic in which she goes for the throat and is stopped so has to use two hands. The only differences in this attack is we can't really tell if he's aiming for the throat whereas in the other attacks (and gifs of them I included) the throat seems to be the target and the second difference being all the other attacks, the Ghostface holds the knife on the right and pushes down with their left hand while Richie, during the Mindy attack, holds the knife from his left side. I don't know if it's that deep but you know...I thought it was something to mention.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, killing styles don't mean much to me. There's only so many ways to handle a knife and it's not that hard to change it up. Especially if you're a murderous psychopath, you're probably going to want to be creative but since a lot of people in the fandom like to base it on kill style, I'm trying to debunk that. Killing styles aside, I just don't think Richie could have made these kills, looking at where he's placed throughout the movie. Well, that's it. If you made it this far, thank you for reading my thoughts. Let me know if you agree or if you disagree and let me know where I went wrong and how you think Richie could of slipped in for these attacks/kills. I'm open to other opinions as long as they're respectful.

Okay I really liked scream 6. Some might argue I just like Jack Quaid too much and that him approximately being in a movie is good enough for me. But No! I think this movie was so genuinely great.
Couple notes on that to elaborate:
- they had a great set up with the last movie, cause we got to see how shitty Richie was as a person and how he died and now we get to watch him get idolized
- the beginning, not one kill that was differing from the norm BUT TWO?!? It must be fucking Christmas (haha I know it’s Halloween in the movie)
- I liked that Jason had posters of metropolis and other German expressionist films on his wall, damn he really is a film student (I’m film student adjacent so I can make this joke)
- the kills were so fucking disturbing, I was left gasping after Anika’s death and almost fucking lost it anytime Mindy or Chad almost died
- that brings me to Mindy, like holy fuck, I really liked her rants in this movie, the last movies one’s felt too preachy and on the nose for me. Her and Anika’s last kiss had me crying. Might be my new favourite character. The terror in the train scene holy shit
- the train scene was masterful. I hated every second, not knowing which party would get attacked, who to trust (it got me to trust Ethan), or just when the fuck anything would happen
- CHASE SCENES! All we really got from 5 was the hospital, this time we get the store, the apartment (truly incredible), and Gale’s house
- Gale actually shooting the fucker was my favourite badass moment (although the end sequence is great I think it’s too sad to be my favourite). I loved how she was taunted but is so skillful and almost beat the fucker
- I also loved the fan theories throughout the movie, from mentioning Stu Macher was alive to how each of the main legacy cast could be the killers
- I found the screams throughout the movie were so intense. I don’t know if I just didn’t realize in previous films but holy shit the screams were so well done by the actors
- The relationships felt so real and they really did feel like people bonded by their past. I loved the way that Tara wasn’t just close to Chad but also Mindy (also that it didn’t feel like her and Chad were close just for romantic/sexual purposes). The part where Tara rests her head on Mindy’s shoulder or where Chad was getting her away from Frankie. Outside of the core four, it still felt real, like the awkward moments with Quinn to how Danny was still a little distanced from Sam since their relationship is new but he still cares for her
- end sequence was so good, I was NOT happy about Chad but I get they needed to get literally every other character out of the way for the sequence other than the two mains (and a cop adjacent character for good measure)
- When Tara and Sam really started fighting back, like he gives his whole fatherly speech and then Sam calls his son a limp dick baby man and you can see his whole facade crumble just a bit and he’s caught off guard
- every time Jack Quaid appeared I laughed because IT WAS JUST SELFIES OF HIM! I really love his acting but when you get a suspect board and it’s a selfie of him in a car with earbuds I’m gonna fucking cackle (though they might’ve used more personal photos throughout to show a more familial connection, make it more homey)
- fairly certain the clip of him talking in his “film” was actually taken from past stuff he’s done? I’m assuming?
- the sequence of them killing everyone was both really well done but also so sad? Like neither of them wanted this, they feel happy about getting back at the people who have supposedly killed all their friends, but Tara starts crying after killing Ethan, Sam doesn’t want to become her father. And she ultimately isn’t, she’s protecting Tara, she’s killing for revenge, whereas Billy did it because he wanted to? (I haven’t watched the first in awhile but I don’t think he had anything against Sid other than the fact he killed her mom) I don’t think what Sam did was something necessarily “right” or “just” she did it for survival, like a bear to protect her cub. That ending in the film it was probably the best turn out.
- Then the ending where both Sam and Tara are coming out from behind the curtain and it says “written and directed by Richie Kirsch” wow just wow. That says so much, cause yeah, he did get his movie, Sam killed a lot.
Well that’s my notes. Really enjoyed, maybe I should rewatch the trilogy and finally watch the fourth movie (I watched one, five, two, then three but wasn’t paying as much attention to three… or two… okay I’m a bad fan)
P.S. I kinda hope they make a series
P.P.S. I have a list of every horror movie I could think of and if you like that sort of thing, check it out! (Maybe even recommend a movie… or five)

Scream (2022)
Tumblr media
I doubt anyone in 1996 expected the Scream franchise to become the most successful slasher series, particularly since the first had a definitive conclusion and by the third film, it sort of felt like the sequels were becoming the very material it was originally parodying. When you look at the numbers, however, it’s hard to argue otherwise. Even the weakest installment - Scream 3 - is high and above the likes of Jason Takes Manhattan, The Dream Child, or Halloween 3. For this reason, I was apprehensive at the thought of a fifth film. How many more times could a killer go after Sidney Prescott? Now, I say keep ‘em coming.
In Woodsboro, high school student Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) is attacked by someone in a Ghostface costume. It’s only the first attack in a series. Tara's estranged older sister Samantha (Melissa Barrera) and boyfriend Richie (Jack Quaid) come to comfort her. When they realize the victims are all tied to Billy Loomis and Stu Macher’s killing spree 25 years earlier, they reach out to Dewey Riley (David Arquette), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) for help.
While I must acknowledge that it is getting increasingly strange for the cast of familiar characters to be embroiled in yet another whodunnit with the “same” killer as before, writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick make it all seem organic. See, in the Scream universe, what happened in Woodsboro was dramatized in a series of movies (the “Stab” franchise) and they were big hits. By the time we get to this story, they’re up to Stab 8, though it’s not called Stab 8, it was just Stab because it wasn’t quite a remake, or a sequel, it was a “requel”; a newish cinematic trend that the film explains in detail thanks to Mindy Meeks-Martin and her twin brother Chad (Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding). Without giving too much away, the film weaves together the structure of a Scream movie, a commentary about “requels”, toxic fandoms, and so-called “elevated horror” together. Between all of these, there’s a lot to dig into.
If I were to highlight one element as the most interesting - besides the central mystery - it would be the fandom of the Stab franchise. See, the killer (or killers, there have been more than one several times now) is/are fans… but they’re more like fans of the events that transpired in Woosdboro back in the day IN THEORY than in practice. After all, this Ghostface has no love for Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley or Gale Weathers. They just want to lure them to the town so they can slaughter them in ways their predecessors only dreamed of. Their murder spree is birthed from a desire to “correct” the past by repeating what happened to a greater extreme. They don’t want survivors to keep the series going. Shouldn’t a fan… like the protagonists of the story? It makes you think. Fans of the Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th series are not like fans of Jurassic Park and The Terminator. Both want the stories to continue but so often, we’re in love with the events in these movies, with the monsters, and less with the humans who just want to survive. In this story, who are we? Are we like Sydney, who just wants to return to a normal life? Or are we like Ghostface, who wants to see her put in peril once more?
2022’s Scream (whose title might be brilliant, awful, a marketing ploy, or all of the above) makes a lot of comments and observations about “requels” but it doesn’t look down upon them because in the end, it is a requel itself - a good one. Skeet Ulrich, whose character Billy Loomis is long dead, returns as a hallucination, along with Marley Shelton as now-Sheriff Judy Hicks, on top of the previously-mentioned trio of Campbell, Cox and Arquette. The film brings back locations and visuals from its predecessors. These work as homages and as efforts by the killer to “capture what made the series good in the first place” once more. The mystery is compelling because it is legitimately difficult to figure out who the killer(s) are, even when the rules of this story are spelled out by Dewey because the film knows what kind of story it is and buckles the audience’s expectations several times. The new crew of teenagers introduced are likable (maybe not as much as Sidney and her friends were, but close) and there’s just enough humor sprinkled throughout to keep you on your toes.
You’d think that by now, the Scream franchise would lose steam and degenerate into absurdity with supernatural elements, trips to space, or whatever but 2022's Scream a.k.a. Scream 5 proves there's a lot of life left in this series. (June 7, 2022)

i’ve honestly always wholeheartedly adored kirby tbh. i’ll never forget seeing scream 4 at a formative age and wanting to be just half as cool as her so bad lmaoo. i don’t know if this is really related at all but i think at least in 4, she was a little more flawed as a person than some people really pick up on. and i think those flaws genuinely make her a more interesting character. she’s a little rude, blunt, callous, whatever. doesn’t outwardly care too much about her friend getting brutally murdered right in front of her. still goes to stab-a-thon, has a good time, flirts with charlie, hosts an after party, brags about her movie knowledge. which good for her with the last one ❤️ but she does come off a little self involved. she’s also a teenager so. fair enough. but she obviously has a lot of good moments as well. she seems to care deeply for jill and shows a lot of courage, heart, and vulnerability in that final scene trying to save charlie’s life. she wasn’t perfect and that’s what makes her pretty compelling to me. i think mindy shares a lot of these qualities as well but she didn’t really get a heart and vulnerability moment like kirby did with the trying to save charlie debacle. i feel like she’ll be getting one in 6 though, not gonna lie. idk but i do love them both and i’m excited to see them again <3
agreed in full, buddy, agreed in full!!
and to be fair, as self-involved and blunt as she comes across, uh, even kirby's more callous lines don't compare to robbie tbh. iirc like, olivia's body is barely cold and he refers to her as "the girl who'll now never date me," or if not that exactly, something to the effect of it (now i have to re-watch scre4m yet again). like. fuck man.
also when kirby tried to save charlie (as far as she knew) and started shakily rattling off whatever remake come to mind, hayden panettiere's performance was so raw and compelling that on the first watch i didn't even realize it's supposed to be the film taking a crack at how derivative and lazy so many remakes are!! the commentary totally flew over my head bc i was so wrapped up in her urgency and desperation.
although my favorite kirby moment will always be when she yells at trevor after her interrupts her and charlie. her face is a whole mood, i swear if this movie had come out a handful of years later than it did kirby prolly would've become a reaction gif. 😂
and mindy! yes, ofc i adore mindy. and she is similarly kind of harsh. like when she refuses to go with richie to the basement and he goes alone and like, as soon as the door shuts behind him she's all, "well he's dead," and shoves her hand in a bag of chips. LMAO. to be fair tho, to be fair richie is irritating af and that prolly would've been my reaction too. anonymoose friend, i am sorry if u like richie but he just aggravates me, personally, he was getting on my nerves the whole movie.
i do feel we'll be getting more vulnerability from mindy come scream vi tho, more development for her character in general. jasmin savoy brown has the range!!! and already the super bowl ad heavily suggests her girlfriend is going to get killed.
i keep re-watching it (and all the other ads, ngl) trying to work out the mechanics of that scene.
it looks like anika is already wounded? she's covered in blood. yes, it could be someone else's blood but i'm thinking it's hers bc in the one shot it looks like mindy is helping her on the floor? it's blink-and-miss-it, but it's there, for the life of me tho, which trailer or tv spot was it in?? i don't remember, they're all blurring together. but also it seems that mindy gets on the ladder before anika does, that she's left her in the bloody bedroom (quinn's bedroom?) and that makes me wonder if the plan is for mindy to go first bc anika could potentially successfully play dead if ghostface enters the room, given that she's already injured. if that is the plan it clearly doesn't work, but. still.
anyway, yes, i love kirby and mindy and i'm very excited to see them both again and hopefully we'll get some good interactions between them too!!
