What do you think are the main differences between pre and post degradation genesis? Bc I've seen most people take his attitude during degradation as an increase if his "ugly side" pre degradation (if that makes sense?)

I think pre degradation Genesis was arrogant and competitive, even occasionally a bit mean. But in a more teasing/flirty/playful way. Like YEAH he's loud and flighty and occasionally aggressive but he's also Angeal and Sephiroth's favorite little ginger gremlin and they love him. He adds color to their life, passion and creativity. They adore him because he says how he feels and is confident in being the ringleader. I think Gen prob had a hidden softer side too since it said that he was sweet to the younger soldiers. He probably hid it under a lot of bravado, but it would come out on occasion, which would make him very endearing.

After he starts degrading, not only is he clinging to life, but his brain is literally starting to spin in circles and his mental health is seriously deteriorating. He's manic and aggressive and is constantly shifting the goalposts because he just wants to SURVIVE but views the entire world as an enemy. He resents Sephiroth more than ever before because Sephiroth isn't falling apart like he is. Sephiroth, once his rival and dearest friend, is now an obstacle, even if Sephiroth himself never wished any ill will on Gen. Genesis is bitter. He's bitter at Shinra, angry at the world, and angry at HIMSELF. He sees himself as weak. He's in constant pain and the fear of dying is always present. He NEEDS to take it out on someone, to make them pay for what they did to him. He clings to Loveless because it's the only familiar thing that makes him feel safe. He burns all other bridges and lashes out because it's the only outlet he has.

He doesn't want to die.

He doesn't want to die.

Biblical Naming Puns in Quartz Plays

Both Levi and Isaac are biblical names whose meaning is explained in the text of Genesis. Shown here in the JPS translation, which includes in line explanations, in Genesis 29:34 we get Levi being given for its meaning as "to attach," or "to join." It shares a route with the word for wreath, so it could be said to have 'to join in a circle' connotation, which works very well with the etymology of kielce and circus, as well as the gear metaphor. He is the ringleader after all, another word that includes the connection to circles and rings.

Isaac comes from the word "to laugh". Shown is Genesis 17:19, though the incident it's referencing happens earlier. A fitting name for a clown, and even more fitting given some lines on Isaac's route, too. But again, this is a name picked based on the pun given in Genesis for it.

These are similar to Jacob in Mary Jane, which, according to Genesis 25:26 is a pun on the word for "heel". Mary names him that after getting the idea to make a doll out of corpse parts after picking up a heel off the beach.

Mary is almost certainly a biblical reference of a name, as well, but it isn't on the origin of the name and explanation for the word play involved.

These are all pretty specific references, but the pattern makes me fairly certain that all three are intentional.

Fun fact - Isaac is the father of Jacob who is the father of Levi, so this also represents three major generations of Genesis.

Whatever else he's got going on or shoved in that weird genius head of his, the Bible is clearly something in Neji's reference pool. Pretty deep-cut references too. With the "Raham" in Jire's poem, these represent some pretty close original textual readings. Some of the phrasing in the Jire poem also suggests at least a passing knowledge with Japanese Catholic liturgical phrasing or at least imitations there of.

But Neji's references don't stop here. The Oh Rama Havenna names seem to be based of Latin instead. He's dabbling in Greco-Roman mythology references elsewhere, Japanese mytho-history in I Am Death, linguistics, latin, possibly middle english, world literature, historical references and beyond. A fascinating place, Neji's mind.

So while I can totally see a reading that there's some religious background Neji is not telling us, I can also see him reading the bible from cover to cover with translation posts just for his reference pool "to make the greatest performance ever!"

*Genesis' wings flap. His smile widens, practically beaming. He's very happy about someone agreeing to watch one of his shows..*

*-Some empty air near the entrance appears to glitch, and they appear. Their color changing eye is bright orange with a large dark orange swirl and a tilted ? shaped pupil. They look around before walking further in-*

*The entrance has a heavy metal door. The hallway has dark green walls and pastel yellow tile floors, both stained with grime and old, dried blood in various colors.*

That's what I've been understanding about him so far. *-Their eye goes back to a bright orange with a ? pupil, and they turn back, again not looking him in the eye-* I wish he would step in more

*-They teleported to the closet Colle had gone to in chapter 7. Their color changing eye is bright orange with a thick swirl of dark orange and a tilted ? shaped pupil. They look around-*

*There's a faint, barely even audible scratching from behind a bookshelf...*

*He doesn't try to pull away. He seems more comfortable with being touched now...*

"Well... I know Ringleader Curse is scared of Dread... and Ringleader Dream hasn't been seen in quite a while... and The Judge just.. doesn't seem to care. And Genesis doesn't like confrontation..." *He sighs...* "I do wish Genesis would do more, though..."

*Seer is sitting in almost total darkness on the edge of one of the many stages throughout the main building. He's staring down at his own hands blankly. More blankly than usual. There's some slimy, purple residue on his jaw, along with some small bruises all across his face...*
