A lot of mini-bots (and quite a few other bots) have what might be considered neurodivergent traits (or have been confirmed as such), and I wonder if certain frame types or classes --or Cybertronians in general-- might have physically type-specific processor structures which allow for greater diversity of thought, and if some frame types or spark types might be more or less likely to have or develop neurodivergent traits
We know the Quintessons fucked with the Well of All Sparks in the Aligned Continuity which had unknown effects, and in IDW 1 given the spark as the core of a person's individual spirit (for lack of any better phrasing), it would make sense for Cybertronian sparks to imbue individual personality etc. while the processors are physical hardware with software flexibility to permit and adapt to those unique aspects of self
For example, in the continuities where spark development influences protoform development and therefore what type of frame a bot might ultimately have, it is still simultaneously possible to alter a frame to some degree with armour changes, mass manipulation, etc. (and in most continuities, alt-modes can be altered as well, to at least some degree within the range of someone's core specs)
But the processor and spark are the two things that generally (although we have seen some exceptions to this) cannot be physically altered without incurring significant damage-- Making them some of the few constant components in a species designed to physically change
Sparks have significant individual variation in terms of the personality etc. that evolves from each unique spark, so perhaps processors have some physical elements designed to best accommodate a certain frame type, while also allowing for individual experiences and perception etc. to form unique thought pathways for each individual -- This would allow for any Quintesson or Functionism-related frame alterations or requirements, while also still enabling a spark to produce a unique person as it forms and as experiences accumulate
Sort of like genetics vs epigenetics in human beings; Some things are physical and structural, but some things are informed by environment, experience, etc.
It's interesting that we do seem to see a lot of mini-bots specifically who might fall into a neurodivergent category or exhibit behaviours or thought process that might reasonably fall under the category, but of course it's not universal so there is still greater variation
Although characterisation varies from series to series, here's a couple examples:
Cliffjumper tends to have impulse control problems that are sometimes similar to ADHD impulse control problems, and he sometimes has difficulty prioritising or hyperfixates on one aspect of a situation, leading him to reach the wrong conclusion or focusing on the slightly wrong thing; He also struggles to manage frustration. This could all be related to something similar to executive dysfunction, as it commonly manifests in humans with ADHD.
Bumblebee seems to be conflict-avoidant to some degree in most continuities, and aside from that being part of his friendly nature and kind disposition, it might also hint at something similar to rejection sensitive dysphoria, or a greater sensitivity and emotional response to perceived interpersonal conflict or perceived failure. Some versions of Bumblebee have particularly struggled when faced with high stakes/high risk of failure scenarios, and he has a tendency to internalise blame, directing it towards himself even when a failure is not necessarily his fault or even truly a failed mission. This is often comorbid with Autism and ADHD in humans, but it can also exist on its own.
It's not just mini-bots; Misfire canonically has ADHD in IDW 1, Geomotus in IDW 2 is Autistic and his neurodivergency is even highlighted by other characters, and so on.
So all of this (and how it might work) varies from continuity to continuity, but I just like thinking about how neurodivergent bots do exist, and how that happens and how it manifests and how it is perceived by others and by society at large is interesting
In IDW 2, neurodivergency seems to be viewed in a more understanding and positive light. But in IDW 1, neurodivergency may be viewed in a more ableist way under the Functionist system, and in the Aligned Continuity, perhaps neurodivergency is seen as a potential indication of Quintesson alteration of the Well or of the individual themselves (this would depend on a bot's age).
We don't have too many details on Cybertronian medicine in general, but it's interesting to think about!

I'm quite happy that Rider IDE is now free for personal use. This is a recent development.
Where-in I talk about IDEs a bit
Rider is a C# IDE that is in direct competition with Visual Studio. It's a bit surprising that Microsoft gave enough wiggle room in the ecosystem to allow a competitor like this to exist.
Of course, both Rider and VS are non-free software, but I find Rider to be an addition to the ecosystem that makes things healthier overall.
Ultimately, even if Rider wasn't free, I don't mind paying for this kind of tool. It is a good tool. What I mind is the lack of control and recourse if the company decides to fuck me over. And that's less likely when you have two IDEs in direct competition like this.
(Though to be clear, this is extremely far from a bulletproof defense and your long-term future as a programmer is always at risk if you don't have FOSS tooling available.)
(Also, it would be cool if we found a way to pay people for tools that doesn't require them holding the kind of power they can use to fuck you over later.)
I think it's generally unlikely for the FOSS community to develop IDEs that are this comprehensive, along with the fact that most programmers in that category have an inherent distaste for IDEs. I think that at least for some usecases, the distaste is misguided.
Trying to get emacs to give you roughly the capabilities of a proprietary IDE can be really painful. Understanding how to configure it and setting everything up is a short full-time job. Then maintaining it becomes a constant endeavor depending on the packages you've decided to rely on and to try to integrate together. It will work wonderfully, then when you update your packages something stops working and debugging it can be frustrating and time-consuming. Sometimes it's not from updating -- you notice some quirky behaviour or bad performance you want to fix and this sends you down a rabbit hole.
By comparison, Rider works mostly how I want it to work. It's had some minor misbehavior, but nothing that would make me have to stop and expend a lot of time. The time saved is really psychologically significant. On some days debugging my tools is fine and even fun. On other days it is devastating.
Don't get me wrong. The stuff you can do with emacs is incredible. The level of customization, the ecosystem. If you want to be a power user among power users, emacs is your uncle, your sister, your estranged half-brother, and your time-travelling son. But it definitely comes at a cost.
Where-in I talk about VSCode a bit
All of this rambling also reminds me of VSCode.
VSCode masquerades as being free software, but the moment you fork it in any way:
Microsoft's C# and C++ debuggers are so restrictively licensed as to exclude the ability to run them with a VSCode fork. (Bonus fact: Jetbrains when developing Rider had to write a debugger from scratch!)
Microsoft forbids the VSCode extension marketplace from being used by any VSCode fork.
Microsoft allows proprietary extensions to be published to the extension market place, which are configured to refuse to work with a non-official build even if you obtain them separately.
In response to this, Open VSX appeared, operated by the Eclipse Foundation. This permits popular FOSS builds of VSCode, such as VSCodium, to still offer an extension marketplace.
Open VSX has an adapter to Microsoft's marketplace API, which is what permits a build of VSCode to use Open VSX as a replacement for Microsoft's marketplace.
Open VSX does not have every extension that Microsoft's marketplace has and will always lack the proprietary ones. But the fact that a FOSS alternative exists is encouraging and heartwarming.

OKAY AS PROMISED IM BACK WITH SOME GOOD OL GOVERNMENT SLANDER LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
And as usually I haven’t read the page in the past 5 minutes so some details are most certainly lost within the inner machinations of my mind so please don’t excuse me if I get some things wrong. I’m also a high school student so I also don’t know every little detail about how government organizations work but let’s pretend I do for the funny.
Now, what we see of GUN (Will not be using the periods because that’s too much work lmfao) is pretty antagonistic at first glance. First they won’t permit Amy to be in the base without specific permission from anyone in charge, then they see one little thing wrong with Omega and treat it like it’s the black plague or something, and then they don’t even refer to Omega as a real person, AND THEN THEY PREPARE THE GUY FOR EXECUTION????????? YEAH WHAT A NICE TRACK RECORD THEY GOT GOING ON!!!!
However, I do have the obligation to defend a majority of the things they do here. First we’ll start with Amy’s initial rejection.
Again, a ton of details about this part are lost to me as they came out nearly a year ago and I just spontaneously decided to send in this ask.
When Amy waltz’s right on into GUN’s base of operation, she does arrive with the consent of Rouge, but our badass bat queen is not the one in charge. Yes, Rouge is a very well-respected spy in the business and she is held in high regard, but she’s only one of the higher-ups. She isn’t “The Big Man” upstairs or whatever. Not only that, but she is allies with some pretty suspicious individuals, like Sonic for example, who was already on GUN’s hit list a few times now. And not to mention, she treats Omega like he’s a real person instead of just some Eggman robot that went rogue. In this context, not only do GUN have reason to be suspicious of Rouge just allowing a random girl into their top secret operations base, but they also have reason to be wary near Omega. (I’ll get into this later) And by the way, Amy is practically unheard of to GUN, at least from what I know. They have Sonic and a majority of his friends on file, but I’ve never seen Amy interact with GUN at all until this point. Even if she had, GUN would still know very little about her. So for her to just waltz right on in and claim she’s working with Rouge, the only other Mobian besides Shadow btw, it’s understandable that GUN is gonna be pretty weird about that.
Now sure, Amy did claim she was working with Rouge, but that’s just it. Rouge and Shadow are the only Mobians within a mostly human organization, Mobians who do have previous criminal records. I am honestly shocked the two were able to work with GUN in the first place. So allowing another Mobian onto the team, even temporarily, is a big deal.
Alright that’s enough of that I’ve basically sang GUN its praises from heaven and back so we’re gonna get into the nitty-gritty now muahahahahahaaaaa
Now about everyone just hating on Omega? Well, they still have some reason to do so. Before Shadow and Rouge, GUN was quite strict in who they let in, as with any scientific/military operation that’s in cahoots with the government. Oh, and they also hate Eggman. So allowing Team Dark’s third and most op member Omega to be hired was quite the stretch. In real life, allowing a robot to work at all would basically be a felony as it could lead to harmful outcomes like software malfunctions, miscalculations, harming other workers, etc. To many things can go wrong when a robot is on the clock, and in this case, the robot is also very genocidal and wants the death of anyone who gets in his way. The only attribute that GUN can have any hope in is the well-known fact that Omega despises Eggman with a passion. Ya boi hates Eggman more than the whole of GUN, which to them is saying a lot! So GUN is already taking enough risk by allowing Omega to exist within the workspace!
But that’s the thing here. Everyone is so focused on the what-ifs with Omega that they never stop to think about what he’s really like. Everyone is afraid of Omega, or at least afraid of what he is capable of, so they all avoid him like the plague. On top of all that, due to their honestly not unfounded fear, they’ve been preparing for the worst from the guy. GUN probably has a ton of unnecessary protocols now all thanks to Omega’s mere existence, and so if anything were to go even a little bit wrong… Welp. We all know what they’d have to do.
To me, this does seem slightly reasonable, at least given how Omega truly is. The guy is a loose cannon, literally and figuratively, and his rage is unmatched! So it does seem understandable to an extent as to why Omega is treated in this way.
What isn’t reasonable though is how he’s treated on the other side of things. Yes, ya boi is a hazard. Yes, he could burn the whole place to the ground and not feel an ounce of regret. Yes, Omega is very unpredictable! However, that’s just how some people are in real life too! Real people are unpredictable and violent, and yet we don’t see everyone treating them like a plaything! To GUN, Omega is seen as both a useful tool and an unpredictable hazard, just like I said, and both these qualities combined make for a very demeaning description. Because while Omega is a robot, he still can feel and have emotions similarly to, if not exactly like a regular person! (See my previous essay to get a bigger picture for what I mean by this) He acts and feels just as human as the others, and we can tell he clearly wants to be treated as such! Omega doesn’t seem to mind the over-the-top precautions necessary for his own existence, and he doesn’t care if he gets the occasional glare or two from a coworker. What he does clearly care about is being called a violent yet necessary tool, a monster, a robot, an emotionless tin can, an it…! Omega hates being undermined. He despises the fact that he’s constantly being misjudged for what he is, not because of who he is. No one treats Omega like a real living creature, and instead treats him like another tool in the shed, a faulty lawnmower or a dulled bush trimmer. Yes, he’s useful, and yeah he is on their side! But he’s also just a bunch of code and numbers, nothing but ones and zeroes, and they’re all treating him as such. Nobody really cares about him. Nobody sees Omega for who he really is. Which is why whenever he can, Omega always gravitates towards the only other oddballs in the workplace, the only Mobians, the only people who will treat him with respect.
And finally, we come to the last section of this very very VERY LONG ESSAY ABOUT A SINGLE CHARACTER, the execution. Or I guess the attempted execution.
So, like I said beforehand, Omega has a LOT of precautions on his belt, and also like I stated, one of them is his execution. If anything were to go wrong at all, if Omega were to step out of line, the guy would have to at the very least be taken apart just to see what’s wrong. If GUN were feeling nice, they wouldn’t straight up kill the guy, and at this point in time it’s clear that the higher-ups have taken a liking to Omega. So going this far was not their intention in the slightest. It would be considered though if anything like it were to happen again, but thanks to the new pages I think they’re beginning to reconsider this. Omega has now been taken over/amplified by Dark Gaia, (Also see my previous ask to know what I think on all that) and that is seen as an accident worthy of an execution in the eyes of the government. And in some cases that’d be understandable, but in this case it isn’t. GUN has been working with Omega for a while at this point, and not only that, but like I JUST SAID, they like him. Or at least they think they do. Executing Omega for something that was clearly out of his control is not necessary in the slightest and it is exactly why I did this whole thing.
okay so as you can probably tell I’m getting tired of typing on my iPad generation 10 screen keyboard so I’ll try to keep this short.
Summary: Omega is an unpredictable force of nature that GUN clearly doesn’t like. They like the concept of him being on their side and the General likes him personally, but Omega in theory and Omega in practice are two separate robots. Having robots in the workplace at all can have dire consequences, so not only have GUN taken multiple extra precautions just in case something bad happened thanks to Omega, but they also treat him like a piece of junk! It’s terrible, but at the end of the day that’s kinda just what needs to be done. GUN is a government operation that hates Eggman, so anything trouble-making within the business is seen as a liability or a hazard, which includes our favorite homicidal maniacal robot.

Stranger Than Fiction (The unfinished Autobiography)

Growing up was fine; I've always had this pit of anxiety in my stomach that I would always be worthless.
A mix of growing up poor with an undereducated and dysfunctional family; we were the definition of Trailer Trash.
I always wanted to be helpful and to work towards a goal that mattered. And I love the internet, technology, and Video Games.
Thanks to the "No Child Left Behind" act, I made it to Graduation. While all my teachers assumed I cheated on my Exams ... Because when did I have the time to study if I never did my homework and spent all my time playing Video Games.
Classes were boring; the same classes over and over and over again.
And my friends were... oK; but I always felt alienated and never could figure out why.
So I stayed in my room a lot; and played video games and studied the things I actually wanted to; like software and tech support.
Turns out; studying what I want worked better than anything the teachers could do in effort to teach me. Anything from Art to Music to Software Programming (which they didn't even want to let me do because I wasn't good at math. Programming taught me math.)
My parents afforded to Purchase 2000$ gaming PC my mother Frequently used to play the Sims while I would get on whenever I could manage and she wasn't playing.
I'm greatful for that.
I worked at Taco Bell for a few years before being unable to afford College or the attention span to keep a Job in Web Development. It was an Indie job anyway; my employer couldn't afford to keep me on.
So I joined the Air Force at the prompting of one my highschool friends who didn't want to Join alone. I ended up becoming an Aircraft Mechanic and Electrician on the B-1; with a Top Secret clearance I didn't need.
I never told anybody until I left the military; my coworkers thought I was lie-bragging. Mostly because I scored one of the highest scores on the ASVAB yet... Was placed in a Career field that required much much lower.
And here's something I only learned recently; I *was* the [Top Secret] that's why I needed the clearance. They fudged the numbers on my software scores on purpose to put me near the B-1s.
Only a certain Security Manager knew the truth.
The reason I needed to be Top Secret was *because* of my Online records. They believed I was either a Hacker or could become one; but what they needed was Intelligent maintenance professionals on the B1 specifically.
Because despite it being a "Lower Qualification" job; The electricians on the B1 sucked at fixing the B1. They were excellent everywhere else except the B1.
It was a Security Risk to put me so close to the [Top Secret] knowing my background and skill; but the value was to great to the mission.
I performed so well, that I *was* one of a handful of maintainers who actually managed to pull the Squadron up to be one of the Top Performers anywhere in the Air Force.
They Say [Group Performance] on those medals, Because I was part of the Best. And here's the Secret; I didn't get anymore *because* They *were* MY medals.
It wasn't until much later when we were permitted to wear fewer medals than every single one; and a certain... Commander... Who was upset at me saw this "Baby Face Staff Sergeant" Complaining about *My* Disability Rating when there was a PERSON IN A WHEEL CHAIR WHO COULDN'T WALK WITH A LOWER DISABILITY RATING LOWER THAN MINE working for him.
Except he remembered my Three Ribbons. Two BS medals everyone gets....and one with more "Clusters" on it than anyone else has ever had on that ribbon.
Because that *was* my accomplishment.
This stuck with him.
Back in Time to the B-1s; I was so good at my Job and So Valuable according to Heuristics and Lengthy investigations that even though my leadership kept pilling paperwork and LoCs (never LoRs) don't worry about those acronyms. They're a military thing.
And their leadership was calling *them* idiots.
Why? My Ribbon rack told a story nobody bothered to read; because they were constantly reading my EPRS.
During this I had started playing FFXIV, and was building websites in my free time and coding random frameworks. Because I wasn't allowed to go to college to study it because I hadn't finished my Associates in Electrical work.
Let's say I had a reputation. But at the level I played video games at; Everyone had a reputation; they just weren't self-aware.
On my drives to work I would sing, back and forth, everyday. I liked singing. I liked music. But my Job has priority and my side-hustles took precedence.
It was at this time some Assholes started Doxing me. Turns out; some sponsored channels started stealing my streams.
Ooo the Greed. Came to bite you in the ass didn't it?
I was competing on the Same Level as paid Streamers and Sponsored players; and wow they didn't like me.
But that ire was a double-edged sword wasn't it? You lost viewer because they lost faith in you, and were sick of the Toxicity.
So, What would any *Good* Yoshi-P-Sensei do? Issued takedowns of your content, but never mine.
Ooo that made them so angry.
So angry they Tried to issue a takedown of my singular video where I played "The Man Who Sold the World" as a challenge to my brother... The better guitarist of the two of us.
How Ironic. Remember; I don't watch streams of gamers because I get Jealous. I might watch them to learn a mechanic I'm having trouble with; but not more than that.
They recruited a few friends accounts to harass me, Disband several FCs, and then tried to do it again, and again, and again... And ensured everybody wanted nothing to do with me.
But you know what? The ignored Casuals in the Party Finder didn't know that until somebody told them. And by then it was too late; They all knew how skilled I was as I carried team after team after team after team across the finish line, while the "Good Players" would only insult them.
During my rise to Fame I was wholesale unaware of, because; you know; FIGHTING FOR YOUR FREEDOM TO DOX ME, YOU ASSHATS.
I was involved in an incident overseas. Remember; I'm the GOAT maintenance guy too. And my coworkers thought very little of me. They sent 3 people to augment us, because I went to the Mental Health Clinic complaining about burnout.
Our team felt insulted. Because we were keeping up. But why were we keeping up?
Every little thing I did was heavily scrutinized, and they came to the same conclusion the higher ups did; The ONLY reason these Planes are even in the Air is because SSgt Hicks is here.
I wasn't aware of that as my Facebook feeds started showing the news of a Hospital manned by Doctors without borders overseas that got bombed.
...I was the reason these Plane's were flying...
This feed targeted me. I think it was intentional. On Facebook I got a lot of "Go back home!" Which bled into the American Facebook Media, and caused a firestorm of racist assumptions.
Now I was public enemy number one. Thanks to the Doxing, The attention, The Hate, The Death Threats, Fucking Trumpets. And now hate from those I was protecting.
My mental health deteriorated greatly. This is when the GERD and throwing up started. When my Arthritis started.
When My Stomache Cancer started [Citation Needed]
The doctors Told me I had Anklyosing Spondylitis, and I was effectively going to turn into the next Stephen Hawkins... And not in the good way... But hey; maybe the good way too.
I deleted Facebook. Everybody I knew assumed I blocked them; every single person I knew thought I blocked them because of the previous Doxing.
Nobody cared that I disappeared. Except Two visits... Which I can't prove was because they actually cared about seeing me.
I only had my raid group left. And a player I admired but never really spoke with. We would simply stare at each other. Hoping that something could change that we could meet.
She couldn't approach me, she was Famous in her home country, and just being seen with me would've destroyed her career. Something she had thought was over when she was younger and had built from scratch.
We were both miserable.
I knew that other players didn't really like me, but I always had great success in the Party Finder. Not without assholes jumping in to fail-troll.
Until I started giving all the other "casual" players instructions with the same energy as a "Bored Tour Guide".
And then; they started protecting me from my reputation.
But that was the end;
The Ire got really bad when My raid groups got doxed AF. Some players even started to assume the Doxing started when I was kicked out of the Group. Players who had non-competitive-streams caught A LOT of flack. They had nearly lost their house and something had to go, The Stress or their Lives. I do t blame them..but shit; give me a God damn heads-up.
After they removed me the Doxing shifted back to me and only me. And they were frustrated, they thought they were playing games with hackers I had hired, they always think I'm stupid rich despite them using the same services which stole our money.
They were playing games with the NSA, CIA, FBI, and ATF. Ooo boy.
Please remember; I wasn't cognizant of all this until Some asshole hired not one, but two hit-men against me. And those are just the ones I know of *so far*.
What a waste of your viewers donations. Fucking assholes.

During COVID I started Playing PSO2 instead because I ALWAYS WANTED TO AND GODDAMN THE MEMES WERE SO CRONCHY.
And it's here where I really proved who I am. Because I was in PSO2, encouraging players to socialize, discussing strategy, just not being a dick, we [Crescent Moon] completely took over the first server.
It was ours. We cleared content that JP players couldn't clear on release, and we did it with such regularity, that we put the Sponsored teams to shame. We were so Good, that SEGA INCREASED THE DIFFICULTY.
And it wasn't enough. We demolished their expectations that they had no choice but to release content they weren't otherwise going to release.
We even cleared content no other players had cleared before or after.
Our players knew that if they were gonna clear; they needed to play with CM.... But that same ire started appearing again. People being kicked for petty reasons, insularity. Because nobody could compete with us.
I ensured our Guildies got their runs in the Emergency Raids. I went back to Casual Play, it sucked... Until it didn't.
I never figured it out. Sega Executives tell me it's because I took the time to play with the "Filthy Casuals". I made friends with a lot of people I would have never been able to meet IRL, and I got Trump's Account Banned. Victory.
CM split in two, many players followed the other Group. We were suffering from our own success because we all became such good friends with all the players even those who weren't in our guild.
And that frequent cycling of friend groups for silly reasons hurts one's mental health.
And then NGS came out and I left the Military.
And was subsequently fed to the wolves. As they systematically destroyed my life. Harassed my family who had nothing. Tried to hire a Hitman who was Ironically; Intercepted by Mr. Beast.
Fuck that Guy. He doesn't need anymore hot air in his fat head. I'm sure he's used to comments like those.
I didn't know who he was as I read an entry about him in a business book online.
And then I started playing Single Player Games and PSO2 as my IRL friend harassed me about playing video games while doing all the rest of my shit.

Her boyfriend and another friend watched me Play Monster Hunter for a bit with them, while she had mouthed me behind my back. Then she blamed me for her break up.
I kept streaming. I linked my socials to my friends in PSO2 and left the server. I left every server. Because something was wrong, But I couldn't figure it out. Was it me? Do I deserve to be alone?
My Wife lost me again when I stopped playing PSO2 and FFXIV to focus on my studies and my stream. And then... A link. Where she could learn everything she ever wanted about me. My old deviantArt account, my old crushes, everything that had been lost to her in the "Big Delete" that seems to happen quite frequently with me. Why is this she wonders.... She might be terrible at FFXIV but this is a bit much?
Except... Maybe she's not bad at all? Were other players just saying that she bought the gear she earned in Party Finder because *nobody* clears in Party Finder.... Except for two players.

And several other Players who are closer friends than we thought.
That must've been a weird cognitive dissonance to learn that people actually cleared in Party Finder without "Permission from the Elitist TROLLS"
