Oh I am so sad to hear of Ron Cephas Jones’ passing. He was a brilliant actor on screen and stage and a beloved member of LAByrinth Theater Company. He was also a dear friend of Phil’s, who directed him in Jesus Hopped the A Train at LAB in 2000.
Ron always spoke and wrote so lovingly of Phil, talked about visiting him in the work onstage every night after he passed. “All my work is Built on your Teachings.” He was a gifted and profound artist with unmatched gravitas. Love to Ron’s many friends and family at LAB and beyond ❤️❤️

MR. ROBOT REWATCH, 1x04: “eps1.3_da3m0ns.mp4”
-Elliot: "This last line. I promise." I'm sorry Elliot, but I don't believe you.
-Oh, you just look crazy right now Elliot.
-I get that for the twist they need Darlene to not be overly concerned about Elliot but watching it and knowing that they're siblings just makes Darlene's attitude weird. Why does she act so blase about everything Elliot does?
-Now that I think about it, how did they all get together anyway?
-Did I really need that shot of Elliot lurching forward to puke?
-Angela, why are we still with this dickhead?
-The way Elliot's relapse is shot is so cool and interesting.
-Romero: "I bet you right now some writer's working hard on a TV show that'll mess up this generation's idea of hacker culture." Sam....are we talking about ourselves with this line?
-I always wondered if Trenton had a thing for Darlene or just admired her.
-It's really interesting seeing a scene between Angela and Shayla.
-Wait, who is this guy talking to? I know Mr. Robot isn't real, but that guy said, "both of them", so who is with Elliot right now? Or is that guy just high?
-Wait, shooting up? Elliot, what the fuck?!
-Did that chick just get shot?
-Did Elliot just get shot?! WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING?!?!
-What the actual fuck is happening right now?
-Oh my God, they actually have a quick Evil Corp commercial.
-Is that Tyrell?
-Why is the fish talking to him?!
Tumblr media
-Elliot: "Angela, he's, my friend." Angela: "Yes, and he's delicious."
Tumblr media
-Like I know this is in his head, but seriously what the fuck is going on?!
-Wait, so him getting high was all in his head? All of it was in his head?!
-I love Trenton and Darlene scenes so much.
-I don't remember Shayla and Angela kissing.
-God, I love Shayla's character.
-Darlene's contact is the guy who gave Ollie the CD?
-Darlene you are being manipulative as fuck, right now.
-Oh shit, Angela's putting the disc into the system.
-Whose computer did she use? Did she use Ollie's?
-How did Angela get out of there without that lady seeing her?

mandymooremm: Getting to know and work with Ron on the wild ride of “This Is Us” was the greatest gift- he was pure magic as a human and an artist…I will treasure all of the moments forever. Even though he wasn’t around set as much as we all wished, he was such an intrinsic part of the fabric of the show, it’s like he was always there. I’ll never forget how special it was to film this particular episode and welcome him back to say a proper goodbye to our TIU family and the whole experience. I am just so sad. My thoughts and love are with Jasmine and his family and friends. Love you, @ cephasjaz.

Looking for Alaska
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Looking for Alaska (2019, USA)
Directors: Sarah Adina Smith, Rachel Lee Goldenberg, Brett Haley, Ami Canaan Mann, Clea DuVall, Megan Griffiths, Rashaad Ernesto Green & Josh Schwartz
Writers: Josh Schwartz, Warren Hsu Leonard, Stephanie Savage, Ashley Wigfield, Kirk A. Moore, Leila Gerstein & Kendall Rogers
Mini-review:
There are a lot of good book-to-movie/TV adaptations. However, there is something that's a lot rarer: an adaptation that improves on the original in pretty much every way. Looking for Alaska is one of those. Going for a miniseries instead of a movie means that everything is much more fleshed out, from the characters to the setting and the themes. The show also perfectly captures the atmosphere of the novel. I've always felt that atmosphere was what made this book so special and popular, and this adaptation made me feel exactly the same. I must admit, though, I still don't like Miles as a lead character, like at all. But, since the other characters get as much focus as him, I didn't dislike him as much as I did in the book.
What's more, the cast is absolutely spectacular. They all nail their roles. I seriously can't think of many teen movies/shows with such fantastic acting. Kristine Froseth and Denny Love are particularly showstopping and I was really surprised (and disappointed) to see they didn't get any award nominations. They're truly that good. Lastly, I want to talk about the setting. I just loved Culver Creek, the pranks, the locations, everything. I honestly wish they would have turned this into some sort of anthology where we follow a different set of Culver Creek students in each season. Seriously, the setting has so much potential. Anyway, this is easily one of the best book adaptations I've ever seen, and I'm really glad I decided to watch it.
