I have a few mixed feelings about Restoration, and I knew I would, as someone who has complicated feelings towards a lot of the post-S14 material. I can excuse most of the things I dislike about it by reminding myself that the real-life circumstances (fuck you, Zaslav) were absolutely a factor here. But one thing I definitely really loved was the "simulations" retcon.
The reveal that Season 15-17 were the product of Epsilon's hyper-accurate, transcendent foresight that he achieved in his final moments, and that Restoration itself could very well be just another of these simulations (via the gag about Epsilon not being sure whether he got Caboose's voice right) throws the doors wide open.
Because now, anything that happened post-13 is up in the air. Anything they made after that point could be what really happened. Anything you made after that point could be what really happened too, throwing back to VIC's speech at the end of Season 14. Epsilon ran dozens of simulations and some of them (Zero) are noted as being extremely unlikely and just there to amuse Epsilon himself, and can that label not be applied to many a fanfic?
Heck, the introduction of Epsilon's recordings and the Recovery Unit means that, if you want to bring back Church and Tex, you can, and Restoration did. If you want your "Everybody Lives" ending, it's now an entirely possible thing within the setting.
The last thing RT did with RvB was restore the ambiguity of Season 13's ending, and throw the doors wide open for us to do whatever we like with it.
If you prefer Restoration's more sombre ending, you can have that. If you prefer the Season 15-17 arc and the continued development for the Reds in particular, then hey, Restoration is just another simulation of what might've happened, and Epsilon's S15-17 simulation is the most accurate one. If you like Zero... I guess you can have that. If you still think RvB should've ended at Season 13, then none of them are accurate. Hell, if you've got a favourite fanfic that you like more than the official post-14 material, congrats, now that's your continuation.
Is Restoration perfect? No. Did it need to be? No. Am I glad we got it? Yes.
Thanks, RT. Thanks to Burnie, Monty, Miles, Joe, Jason, and everybody else that wrote, directed, voiced, animated, made music for, did anything for this funny little show about idiots in a box canyon in the middle of nowhere.

Oh fuck RvB S19 might actually be good. Forgive me for what I will become if this turns out to be the case.
#Salem shouts into the void#I just watched the trailer; I didn't realize it had come out#also frankly good that they're giving it a proper ending instead of leaving it off at S17#Like dgmw I liked 17 fine but it was definitely a little out there and not really a good resolution for the show on the whole#Also tfw one of my wip video essay scripts is literally about the problem with stories that develop organically#and then continue past their natural conclusions using RvB as the focus

So I've got some thoughts for my RvB gang.
I had a thought recently. I found Sharkface to be an extremely boring villain. Like he was cool(ish) and the jokes about how edy he was trying to be were funny(ish) but. You know who would have been more fun? The dude with the robot arm.
Think about it - the guy was shot by Carolina and left behind on a drilling rig that blew up, and survived. He tanked a MAC round from orbit and all he lost was his right arm. They've set up a perfect villain here. Claiming he literally can't die would be so funny! Every time he appears he dies, then he just shows back up with yet another robotic prosthetic. His whole subplot is that he just desperately wants to die, and he finally figured out that the pyramid thing is his only shot at finally getting his wish. The problem is that he would also wipe out the rest of life as we know it if he did that.
Anyway, the background subplot is what's really important here. Carolina is being hunted down by a shadowy figure. Evidence points to him being another hired gun working with the pirates. He is always half a step behind her, getting closer and closer to tracking her down.
Eventually in the climax, the hitman catches up to Carolina. They go through an intense duel, where he seems to be able to anticipate all of her best moves and counteract them. Finally, she manages to hit the guy hard enough to knock off his helmet.
It's York.
Then we get some backstory - when York was shot going after Wyoming, Delta turned on his healing unit. He then told Tex that York was dying. As soon as she left Delta woke York back up, got him to swap armor with one of the grunts, and disappear.
So York spent several months slowly recovering. During that time, life finally beat him. He didn't have his armor, he didn't have his healing unit anymore, and he didn't have Delta to keep him coming. He finally gave up on the dream of finding Carolina alive somewhere.
So instead, he decided it was high time someone finally killed Director Church. He would kill the man who took everything he'd ever loved - admittedly, in a roundabout sort of way - from him. Only when he tracked the director down, he found hundreds of dead Allison lookalikes and archive footage of yet another cheap robot replacement killing the Director - except this time Church went to far. He made a replacement of her. He couldn't even let his own daughter's memory find peace.
So, York ended up with a new goal: kill the robot that had stolen Carolina's face (armor). End it once and for all. Bring some closure for the girl that he loved so much but never got to keep.
After all of this revelation, we finally get York and Carolina's big happy ending. I don't know how they beat the immortal robo guy, but mostly I just care about my Yorkalina angst and resolutions.
Anyway. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts. And... should I write this at some point? Let me know.

I have...a lot of thoughts about the series finale.
I'm about to turn 26, and I've been watching RVB since I was around 11. Tucker was always my favorite character. His character development was some of the best I've ever seen (not that I'm an expert, but), and his relationship with Wash, whether it was more than friends or not, was always my favorite dynamic too. With that said, I'm really disappointed in how little we saw of Tucker despite the incredibly devastating situation he was in, AND how little we saw at the end after he was saved.
I also find it very strange that Wash and Tucker did not have one single interaction, especially with all they'd gone through together prior to this. Wash asks Doc/Carolina if he's okay and that's it. It felt like RT had a limited runtime allotted and wanted to finish Grif and Simmons' storyline more than they wanted to finish anyone else's. I get it, because the show started with them so it should end with them, but I think with even just ten more minutes, we could've gotten a resolution for everyone. Maybe.
Anyway, I loved it regardless, because it made me laugh and it made me cry, and it gave me one last piece. Red vs. Blue got me through some of the hardest times of my life.
I got to tell Jason one time at RTX in 2014 that I loved his work as Tucker, and I wish I could tell him now how much it's meant to me all these years.

The RT logo was my first ever tattoo when I was 16, and the RVB tattoo came a couple years later.
Bow-chicka-bye-now 🥲

You know what's funny... remember that one fan-theory that Gene was just "Simmons from the future" (before my time being in the thick of it with RVB, but I've seen the older posts)?
NOW imagine that he tried to "fix" whatever went wrong with Tucker turning into the "Meta", time-travel happens, and THAT creates the split in reality (obviously, the resolution between Gene and Simmons goes differently if they were BOTH Simmons, but I am amused by him trying to steal the "villain moment" from Temple, like- "NO, you aren't the main character trying to save his best friend, I AM" and they're both so petty about it. Also, extra angst of Sarge arguing with him, and Simmons insisting- "I'm trying to save YOU, too!")

Okay, so post season 13 on my rewatch and I have a lot of the same complaints I did when I initially watched it.
The main thing being the pay off of Tucker's development as a leader and the parallels that were set up. I'll maybe get into it more later, but the Felix/Locus/Sharkface set up to Tucker/Wash/Carolina just didn't feel satisfying. I don't think it would make sense to have Tucker on the same level as the freelancers but it would have felt more narrative satisfying to see him hold up more of a fight. Him eventually leaning on his friends to help him win opposed to Felix being alone would have still worked, it would have just been nice to see just a bit more resolution to all of his training and experience.
I do think the Carolina and Wash vs Felix and Locus fight has great moments, but narratively it just feels out of place for me. I wish they had maybe had more time to explore what was set up with Sharkface and The Counsilor with Carolina. The fact that Carolina and Wash don't even know that the Counsilor was working with the space pirates was also a big let down.
I didn't get this feeling the first time, but having Wash go back to gray armor really feels like it's distancing him from the Reds and Blues and kind of walking him back from where he was at the end of season 10. I was talking with my sister and we both agreed that we wish he'd maybe gotten his own shade of blue armor (if available with us not knowing anything about Halo) instead of going back to Church's.
The Chorus Trilogy is still one of my favorite parts of the whole series though. It has a lot of great moments and still really love the characters and lore that were introduced. Dr. Grey is a delight to have on screen whenever she's there and the Lieutenants are always a joy to see. And of course I fell in love with Kimball all over again.
Once we start season 15 we'll be getting to territory that I haven't seen cause I fell off during the anthology season. I'm hesitant based on some spoilers but I want to give it a fair shot. The plan is to get to RvB: Zero, but we'll see.

"Seeing what on Earth went wrong"
(Commentary under the cut!)
character belongs to @joltning! Thank you for sending in the request!
Reblogs > Likes If you would like your Halo or RvB Spartan/Elite rendered pleass shoot me a message or ask!
Okay so originally I had an entirely different idea in mind for the render of recreating a doodle of Josies but I was told the character I wanted to have be the POV wasn't theirs so I changed the idea.
Near the end what I was doing was mainly fiddling with lights and camera angles but FUCK was it annoying to figure out how to do the sword glowing (tutorials make me wanna claw out my ears and eyes)
There's some texture funkiness around the armpit but I can't/won't do anything about it since it's well outside my wheelhouse, maybe one day, but not today.
The lighting and color grading makes it look someone more orange to me? but that honestly might just be my stupid eyes since I'm so used to orange spartans.
Spartans in reach have such fat asses that I actually curved him inward real hard so it didn't look painful as hell with how much the back arches.
Unlike the other one I basically knew immediately what I wanted and how I was gonna get it so I didn't need multiple renders to convey the ideas.
Also this one is at A4 paper resolution, just in case you wanted to print it out ig lol.

the werewolf game ever. of all time: day one
Start reading here!
Church’s player tries and fails to get FIRST (amazingly in-character cringefail narcissistic boyfailure moment, I’m so proud of her). In an act of uncharacteristic magnanimity and faith in someone else to make any decisions, Church also immediately snapvotes that rookie Caboose for blue team captain. How sweet! I’m sure this will set the stage for a completely bloodless and totally-fucking-hinged friendship between them 🥰
Tucker just wants One Fucking Normal Game
Sheila’s trying to kill Sarge (love the spirit but this is not a PvP-enabled day, girlboss) and also campaigning for herself straight out the gate.
The idea of Sheila’s player potentially deciding resolution of vote ties apparently triggers an instinctive, subconscious-canon-trauma-memories fear in Tucker’s player of Sheila having power over who lives and who dies
Fortunately (?) for blue team, Sheila’s just here to fuck around, have a good time, and get sloshed on whiteclaws (presumably poured down her fuel port by Caboose and Lopez?)
meanwhile, Church, in his role PM:
Wyoming and Church start beefing when Wyoming taunts Church for the failed FIRST. Simmons gets snide about how HE was the first RED (which I guess is what matters, anyways, because suck it blue).
I love this message from Tucker’s player bc “I think you haven’t experienced a handful of events that have drained my benevolence and replaced the void with salt 🤣” really encapsulates s7 and s11 Tucker imo. The emoji makes it.
Church isn’t scared of wolf!Caboose, fuck off 🙄😤 (hasn’t yet occurred to Church to be afraid of a Caboose on the same team. Ah, still so naive…):
Tucker: oh okay so Caboose gets away with fucking anything around here 🙄🙄🙄🙄 whatever Church (events referenced are a previous, non-RvB game that was also really really good):
Church @ Tucker:
O’Malley crashes into thread with several biting one-sentence potshots at anyone and everyone to start shit and disappears again. This is the beginning of a pattern for O’Malley.
Sarge and O’Malley have some shit to say about Sheila but she’s just been having the time of her life getting wine drunk and shitposting. The plotline canon Sheila deserved.
She's also got a plan! Sheila's role PM (private message):
Our favourite tank enjoying and taking advantage of being invulnerable to night kills :)
People get into an argument over game mechanics, ft. Church’s player very confidently misreading the rules. Wyoming memes about it:
A lot of squabbling over mechanics and voting strategy ensues. Also a lot of self-votes for captaincy.
Church really really wants everyone to shut the fuck up about “what if we need to coordinate votes with the opposite team to make sure someone on our own team gets voted out instead of someone on the opposite team our team would otherwise all vote for?” because OBVIOUSLY votes are never going to get concentrated on one person like that:
I’m sure these will never become famously ironic last words!
One of the other mods… gets bored and starts writing very grammatically-questionable fanfic in the middle of the thread for no game-related reason? Far from the most egregious shitposting we did that game so I can’t criticize.
Sarge is sarging:
O’Malley starts mercilessly dunking on Church:
Simmons helps:
Sarge’s player is, like, a 50 year old dad old-BGC-RvB fan and he was so funny and so perfect in the role. We love him.
I got to start threatening players 🥰
And finally:
Next: night 1

@doomednarrative i’m gonna make a full post, but basically tucker (who by the end of s13 felt like the MAIN CHARACTER) was reduced to being a vessel for the villain of the season. he was taken over by the ai he was left with at the end of the season and forced to be a mindless vessel for the heroes to fight. he had no agency throughout, BARELY had any LINES, and the fact that HE is the one the units are possessing is ENTIRELY POINTLESS. the fact that it was tucker COULD have had storytelling potential, especially regarding how certain characters like washington and carolina who were close to him and saw a similar thing happen to their friend would feel about it, but no! those characters never react to tucker being possessed by the ai at all! tucker himself, gets tortured and possessed by the ai against his will for IN UNIVERSE MONTHS, and in one scene they make him feel like he’s being tortured for TEN WHOLE YEARS. and he’s NEVER able to fight back, at the very end they remove the ais from him to save the day, and we get confirmation that he’s still alive, and that’s IT. NO resolution for this character. NO dissection of how horribly traumatic this would be despite the movie engaging with themes of trauma relating to the ai earlier. my man had NOTHING to do, NO agency, didn’t get to connect with ANY characters except for one when he briefly fought the ai and apologized to his friend who the ais were about to kill, he gets NO closure, and the movie has him do a shitty ferris bueller cameo at the end after the credits. THAT’S IT. PREVIOUSLY ONE OF THE DEEPEST AND BEST EVOLVED AND NUANCED CHARACTERS IS REDUCED TO THAT. It’s ALMOST as bad as the season (which they retconned) where he is reduced to an egotist, an idiot, an asshole, and a sex pest, who gets KILLED and stripped of his signature weapon, the season everyone regards as the worst. it is SLIGHTLY above that in terms of how they treat tucker. the bar was in fucking hell but holy shit did rvb dig so far deep down to try and just barely pass over it
Idk shit fuck about rvb but from your posting i'm guessing the new stuff fucked up your favorite guy didnt it
THEY RUINED TUCKER
