They just look like ears. I wonder if it was the Edwards that made it that way or the Reverend.

I really love your engine drawings because you manage to give them expressive faces without making them look uncanny valley (which a lot of official ttte art does, for example)

I try to emulate RWS illustrators when I make their faces, especially the Edwards, Payne/Dalby and Kenney. I feel like their depictions of the faces are natural for what children's book characters would have- with the period typical flair that comes with them: Kenney ESPECIALLY

Look at those scowls and smiles. There's something so charming about them.

While I admire Clive Spong's ability to create depth and highly geometic bodies of the engines... good lord his faces are so weird

He does make them seem appropriately huge, which I admire a lot, but yeah. Uncanny valley.

but you know, he has very "dark souls 3 boss" vibes for me and thats always fun to try to catch in the artwork!

I have one more headcanon, based off a photo of Duke in the RWS version of Grandpuff. Steam engines at will, can rotate their smokebox door, which means also being able to rotate their faces. Bill and Ben once they learned about this and had a great deal of fun that day. Many screams were had and many more fainted or derailed themselves.
