JWST has spotted bizarre rings of dust around a dying star
A strange star system with concentric rings of dust blowing out into space has been imaged in unprecedented detail by the James Webb Space Telescope
Space 12 October 2022
By Jonathan O’Callaghan
Concentric rings of dust spreading away from a star system called WR 140
NASA/ESA/CSA/STScI/JPL-Caltech
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has observed a bizarre set of rings around an unusual star system, which may be evidence for carbon that formed planets like Earth across the cosmos.
The system, called WR 140, is located about 5600 light years from Earth and contains two stars. One is a Wolf-Rayet star – a massive star eight times our sun’s mass – at the end of its life, shedding material into space. Its companion is a supergiant star some 20 times more massive than our sun. Previous observations of the system had shown two rings of carbon-rich dust emitting from the stars, puffing out as they approach each other in their eight-year orbit.
Images taken by JWST in July, however, reveal much more detail. The telescope spied more than 17 rings of dust extending from the stars “almost like tree rings”, says Ryan Lau at the National Science Foundation’s NOIRLab in Arizona who led the observations. The rings are not perfectly circular because of the angle from which we are observing the system and the orbits of the stars, making them seem almost artificial – but they are very much real.

“We’re essentially tracing out 130 years of this eight-year cycle of dust formation,” says Lau. “It blew us away. We didn’t expect to see that many rings.”
Star systems like this with concentric rings of dust are not too uncommon, says Lau. “There are maybe 15 that are known,” he says. However, none has been seen in as much detail as this. “There’s nothing really like WR 140 where you see those series of shells further out,” says Lau. “That’s where the power of JWST comes in.”
In total, the rings extend more than 10 trillion kilometres from the stars, or about 70,000 times the distance between Earth and the sun. “It’s the furthest distance we’ve seen Wolf-Rayet dust survive,” says Lau. That could have major implications for the formation of stars and planets like our own in the cosmos. “Wolf-Rayet stars could be an importance source of the carbon that formed our sun or Earth,” says Lau.

Ryan O’Callaghan Comes Out!
Ryan O’Callaghan Comes Out!
You can check out the whole story of how this young athlete came out in Outsports – meanwhile, take a peek at the tear-dropping details!
“Growing up in Redding, Calif., he didn’t see any other option. From a deep red corner of a blue state, the conflicted young man had decided in high school that he would never — could never — live as a gay man. While the 6-foot-7, 330-pound offensive tackle…

hi, i’m rereading mia and rt and i’m just wondering which characters are oc’s and which are actual people? bc you don’t use last names very often and i figured out yungblud and all time low and ashton and calum pretty quickly (actually quicker then i figured out jawn, lucas, zakk, and travis but mia was the first fanfic i read coming into the fandom oops i was so new i knew nothing) but it took me a while longer for some of the other people such as jb being jon bellion
this is always such a fun question!! and yeah, no last names because awsten doesn’t know/care haha.
clara rose is original. and otto’s parents, geoff’s family, ida jones from across the street lol. clark, everyone who works at the library and the sheriff’s department, mr. harrison and his son colt. the school counselor is an oc.
zoey from bible study is based on an old oc from fics on my ao3 that i just deleted. “zoey’s friend” is another oc from that same series based on demi lovato haha. awsten never talks to her, so she doesn’t get a name.
lucas and zakk’s families are all original. no one in awsten’s family is based on anyone real, although i figured out last year that in my head, a therapist i saw for a couple years is cast as his mom lol
leslie is an oc but she’s laura dern in my mind. travis’ siblings, nell and benny, are both original. ashley’s brother is an original character. mrs. chang who owns the yogurt place is original, and so is the guy from the newspaper and everybody who works at carson’s. emily is original and didn’t start out this way but is now cast as liv haynes.
i guess just assume that lakeview people are generally mine haha, especially if they showed up in rising tide. i will now contradict myself immediately.
maddie who works at the yogurt place is maddie rooney from liv and maddie on disney channel
maddie at school needs a new name, but she and chloe from geoff’s class are maddie and chloe from dance moms (for you dance moms fans, there’s a reference to jill and kendall and kendall’s sister ryleigh at one point lol)
taylor is taylor swift
hayley is hayley williams
max who i just recently added as an aide is maxx danziger
bran who is also (an aide) new is zach dewall from set it off but i renamed him because i already have zack and zakk. his name is brandon but they call him bran.
brendon and ryan are from patd
mr. o’callaghan is john o’callaghan from the maine
everyone i mention at the beginning of p&p is based on someone, either irl or a character (justin, kingsley, shane, etc.)
aunt tabby is tabitha brown
chance is chance sutton from team 10 pls kill me hahahaha im so sorry i just think hes cute and his name was perfect and his face when he was young is great for what the character is and idk i just thought he was a good fit for what i wanted. i was originally just using his name but the more i thought about it, the more perfect he became.
i posted about this on the mia instagram when it happened, but the old music therapist, cady, whom jawn has a crush on, is based on cady groves, who died at the beginning of may this year :(( she was 30
carter is very, very loosely based on carter hardin (yes hi i am admitting this now). mostly just using his name + face.
rob who runs tag is rob damiani, the lead singer of don broco
big t who works with jon is not called big t in real life. his name is travis mendes, and he works with jon (bellion) in real life. they make music together.
nate from bible study is nate kulina from kingdom which is my favorite tv show of all time. they just added it to netflix and i know you’ve probably heard me say it 80 times but if you’re old enough to be comfortable with tv-ma i HIGHLY recommend it
this is kind of funny and also kind of bad but eduardo from bible study is loosely based on eduardo from foster’s home from imaginary friends. he’s a big dude and he’s shy outside of bible study. he feels really at home at futurefaith <3
jake is whoever you want him to be. ashley is whoever you want her to be.
i know im probably missing like a thousand people!! but this is what i have for you right now. if you want to know about anybody specifically, please let me know! :)

having an affair with a married man, or anyone, for that matter, was not something xavier ever pictured himself doing. yet, when it came to ryan o’callaghan—now sinclair—he clearly played it a lot more loose with his morals. he felt guilty about his own boyfriend, overcompensating with gifts and dates and anything that could ease the way he felt for knowing what he was doing behind his back. as for ryan’s husband, though? that man was a piece of shit, in his opinion, and he took a little bit of joy in fucking around with his husband. just a little bit.
a visit from joseph was definitely unexpected. he showed up one morning to his art gallery, and for ryan’s sake, xavier tried to offer him a civil greeting. the man, however, had a different thing in mind. he told him he knew they were having an affair, and smugly told him it was going to stop. the artist scoffed, and joseph pulled out a checkbook. how fucking pathetic. xavier couldn’t be bought. so when his offer was refused, joseph tried making another one, one he’d have no choice but to take.
a few days later, ryan was coming into town to visit him, as they’d arranged, and xavier had given him no warning that it’d be the last time they would be together. because joseph struck a nerve, his one biggest insecurity, telling him if they kept their affair going, per their prenup, ryan would be left with nothing in the divorce. and ryan liked a lavish life, and he wouldn’t leave it behind for a good for nothing like xav. what’s worse was, xavier knew ryan would never forgive him, he would always feel that resentment towards him for what he’d cost him, and he’d lose him again.
so he cooked dinner for them in the small kitchen of the airbnb he’d rented, made himself presentable, and greeted ryan with the biggest kiss he could give him. xav always felt like if he’d known ryan was leaving him, he would’ve made a point to kiss him harder, longer, make it count. so he was doing it this time, to have some semblance of a decent memory before they parted ways again, for ryan’s sake. he could feel his heart breaking already. “hi.”

TW: MENTAL ILLNESS: MENTIONS OF BIPOLAR DISORDER.
A typical one night stand child isn’t something that anyone is really excited for and in this case, Ryan’s birth mother considered it to be a curse. Ryan wasn’t a baby that was wanted, or loved, or really had a family that truly wanted him around until he was the age of three - when he was put up for adoption. Three years was enough for Ryan’s mother to realize that her baby was too much responsibility, even if she did try - with her own mental illnesses, there was no way Ryan would have been born and raised in a ‘normal’ environment. Ryan was in the system until he was nearly four, that’s when his adoptive parents Walter and Daniella O’Callaghan appeared in Ryan’s life and made it for the better. Though Ryan didn’t think so.
As the years went on, Ryan was having more and more trouble in school. He couldn’t concentrate, he was finding himself lashing out and having disruptive episodes that no one really could handle and no one could understand why. It wasn’t until he was thirteen that Ryan had been diagnosed as Bipolar I. Ryan’s family began taking him regularly to doctors, therapists, you name it just to see if they could help their son and help with his condition and it worked for awhile, even getting Ryan into his artwork. It was really the only thing that kept him busy, kept his mind focused on one thing and kept him at ease. He could just paint or draw how he was feeling on a blank canvas and it always looked much more beautiful than how he was actually feeling internally. But Ryan was definitely an artist, that much was obvious as he began going to art shows, art galleries, museums, etc. He wanted to leave his mind behind, leave his visuals behind, he wanted people to see what it was like to live like him. To deal with what he dealt with, he wanted to show the world just who he was through his paintings.
At age fifteen, Ryan found who he thought was the love of his life. He had just come out as gay, he had been trying to find a relationship like all of his other peers in school, and that’s when he met Quincy. He was a sophomore when Ryan was just a freshman but god he was beautiful. Ryan was head over heels for him and all it took was Ryan being a bit ballsy and in a highly elevated mood to actually convince the guy to take him out. And it worked, but little did Ryan know it would soon be one of the worst mistakes he’d ever made. Two years into their relationship and Ryan was a victim of domestic abuse - though he never really noticed it because it was always in the bedroom that things became so violent. And it became the only way that Ryan could really get off thanks to the man. And Ryan always had an excuse, ‘it was just a one time thing,’ ‘oh, it was just something new,’ ‘it was just a game, chill,’ and excuse after excuse just continued. That was until it was pushed too far and Ryan was slowly showing signs of an eating disorder - thanks to his boyfriend constantly commenting on the little love handles he had, or a little jiggle in his thigh area. And the more the man commented on it, the more insecure Ryan became and things progressed from there.
Seventeen, Ryan and Quincy break up but it wasn’t easy. He was Ryan’s first love, and he hated the fact that the man had broken him so badly. But he had to move on. A year in self recovery, Ryan was still miserable and thought the only thing he could do to make someone happy was to fuck them. That’s when Ryan began dabbling in screwing men here and there and everywhere just to fuck the pain out of his system - but that only helped for so long and then you came and felt shittier than you had to begin with. At eighteen, Ryan began university and started studying the theory of art and visual art. It had always been his guilty pleasure and he truly wanted to become something and get his name out there with pretty paintings and paintings so wild that you’d get lost in them just admiring them. He wanted it all. 22 and he was graduated and decided to move to the states. Ryan decided to head to LA, he got a few odd and end jobs here and there, but it wasn’t exactly covering the bills. That’s when Ryan was approached by a man who turned him onto Erotic modeling. It was definitely some of the best times of his life, the clothes, the traveling, the new people, meeting designers and other important people - Ryan truly had been living the dream. And then he met Felix. The man turned helped turn Ryan into the bratty spoilt little that he is today. They fell for one another after agreeing to have a dominant and submissive relationship. Felix truly changed Ryan’s life for the better - even if there were hard times between the two - but after two years, Ryan had to go. He had to venture out there and experience what life was about. He couldn’t be tied down to a man without living first. And with a heavy heart, Ryan explained that he had to go - he had to find himself, he had to see what else was out there. Of all places, he hit up Provincetown – it was a fresh start, and he wanted to really give this whole life thing a go. which meant going somewhere that no one knew of him, or his outbursts. And Ryan couldn’t be happier.

Almost three years and a half. One thousand and forty seven days, if you were to count them, which was something Xavier had stopped doing a long time ago. He had done it at first, when he thought Ryan would change his mind and come back, because, surely, he wouldn’t just stay gone, he wouldn’t truly leave. He’d come back, suitcase in hand, and tell Xavier he was sorry for leaving, and Xavier would give him no shit for having left, just welcome him back in and act like it hadn’t happened at all. But about three weeks in, the man realized that Ryan really had left this time, and wouldn’t come back on his own, but he was too proud to beg him to stay, when he hadn’t done anything wrong in the first place. And if Ryan wasn’t happy anymore, then he was within his right to search for something, someone that did make him happy. And that was the end of it.
The news of Ryan’s wedding hit Xavier like a ton of bricks. They never ran in the same circles or had the same group of friends, so after the breakup, it was easy not to cross paths. Xavier was at the grocery store, at the checkout line, absentmindedly looking around when he spots it in a magazine. “Joseph Sinclair is engaged,” read the headline. “Well, good for him,” Xavier thinks. But there’s a picture, and it’s a familiar face, and it surely can’t be, it fucking can’t be, but it is. He bought the magazine, and he would stare at the goddamn engagement announcement so hard that he could burn a whole through the pages. Read the feature so many times that he learned the words by heart. He knew Ryan was never coming back, he’d learned that soon after the man had left him, but marrying someone else still felt like betrayal. How fucking could you.
Like all things in life, with the passing of time, you get used to it, it becomes such a part of your life that you hardly notice it anymore. Eventually, he threw that worn magazine out, a couple months before the wedding was set to happen, and life went on. So, one thousand and forty seven days since Ryan had left, life was very different. Xavier was now living with someone new. His name was Mark, and he was a doctor. He was tall and gorgeous and kind hearted, and he made Xavier happy.
There was a fundraiser for the hospital where Mark worked at, and he always insisted on dragging Xavier to these events. He didn’t mind, for the most part, he just hated having to put on a stuffy suit, watching Mark talk up rich people into donations, and getting judged by everyone in the room. “He’s an artist,” Mark would tell people when asked about Xavier. And the standard reply usually was, “Oh, so he’s unemployed?” But Xavier was a trooper, so here he was on this night, all fake smiles and politeness, arm in arm with Mark. He slips away for a moment to get another much needed glass of champagne—these type of events should really invest some in jello shots—and bumps into someone in his distraction. “I’m sorry, I was ju-” Ryan. That’s Ryan O’Callaghan. Sinclair, now, of course. That just looks like his Ryan, but it’s not. “Oh my god. Ryan, hey,” he says, hands moving awkwardly because what the fuck do you do. Go in for the hug? Too eager. Shake his hand? Too detached. So he just fucking flails for a moment and then just stands there, staring. He clears his throat. “How you’ve been?” How’s married life been treating you? Not that I’ve been keeping up or anything.

He went anywhere, from New York, to California again, but his heart kept telling him ‘Chicago’. So Ryan looked at towns and businesses and wound up in BoysTown. Now he’s doing commission art work and low key working as a cam boy just to make the rent.

How Katie Sowers became the first woman and openly gay coach in Super Bowl history
Tumblr media
Katie Sowers is in her second season as a 49ers offensive assistant coach.
Katie Sowers has been a trailblazer as a coach for the 49ers. Here’s her inspiring story.
The 49ers are trying to etch their names in the history books with a Super Bowl win against the Chiefs, but one of their coaches is already no stranger to making history. Katie Sowers, an offensive assistant with the 49ers, became the first openly gay coach in the NFL back in 2017. Now, she’s set to be both the first openly gay coach and first female coach to appear in a Super Bowl.
Sowers, 33, is more than that to the players she coaches, her co-workers in the NFL, and her fans. She’s an inspiration to a lot of people, from women who love football or other sports, to LGBTQ people who are unable to outwardly be themselves in public.
Though she set out to be a coach in the NFL — with the end goal of being a head coach some day — she has embraced being a role model. Sowers took an even bigger step in the spotlight recently, when she was featured in Microsoft Surface ad that ran during football games.
youtube
In the commercial, she shared a page from her journal she wrote as a young girl. In it, she says she hopes to one day be a good football player.
A voiceover from Sowers adds: “I hoped someday I will be on a real football team. I’m not just here to be the token female. I’m here to help us win ... I would want to tell this little girl to keep pushing herself. Your dream is coming.”
Sowers is living her dream right now.
Here’s everything you need to know about the 49ers’ trailblazing coach.
Sowers had a love of football from an early age
Sowers was born in Hesston, Kansas, where she started playing football with her sister and friends. She’s talked about how football has been a big passion of hers ever since she was exposed to the game.
In another page from her childhood journal, a young Sowers proclaimed tackling to be her favorite part of football. She mentioned her writing in a 2019 interview with People magazine.
“(Football has) always just been kind of a natural love,” she said. “Every time I got a chance to write any kind of journal entry in school, it was always about football. I was constantly talking about it.”
Sowers has always known she wanted to be a coach, but didn’t realize it was even possible for her to do it in football. She knew football as a “man’s game” for a long time.
“I started to realize how much bigger the boys I grew up playing football with in the backyard became compared to me,” Sowers said in a 2017 interview with Outsports. “I was forced into the societal norms that told me girls don’t play football.”
Sowers did eventually play football, and at a high level.

She spent time with the Kansas City Titans and the West Michigan Mayhem in the Women’s Football Alliance for eight years, and also made it on to the United States’ Women’s National Football Team. Sowers played quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive back.
You can even watch her play on the national team in the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) on the organization’s YouTube channel. Here’s Sowers, No. 16, playing defensive back in the world championship game between the United States and Canada in 2013.

But before she began playing professionally, she had to settle for something different. Without a football team to join in college, Sowers played basketball at Goshen College in Indiana, and was met with a giant hurdle when she hoped to enter the coaching ranks after graduating: the school didn’t want an LGBTQ person coaching. Sowers was turned down for an unpaid coaching position.
Via Outsports:
“As I was finishing college, I actually got turned down from a volunteer coaching job (basketball) because I was a lesbian. I was told ‘because of your lifestyle, we ask that you do not come around the team.’
That moment really impacted me because it was the first time I truly felt judged because of my sexual orientation. I was so passionate about coaching and to feel like my opportunities were limited because of who I loved was hard to deal with. However, without that experience, I would not be where I am today.”
Recently, Goshen College issued an apology to Sowers for how they handled things in 2009. The school has since adopted a non-discrimination policy.
“When, not if, we go through these moments of adversity, we can view them as road blocks and feel sorry for ourselves or we can view them as a part of our story,” Sowers told NBC Sports after the apology was made in January. “I prefer to see what happened to me as a detour that put me on a path to where I am now.”
The path she’s on now is one of greatness and inspiration. But there were a few more steps to go through before she landed her current role.
How Sowers made her way to the NFL
Sowers’ career started when she became athletic director for the city of Kansas City, and the coach of a fifth grade girls’ basketball team. As it turns out, one of the people who noticed her was NFL front office executive Scott Pioli, whose daughter happened to be on the team Sowers was coaching. Pioli was impressed with how she coached and quickly learned how much passion she had for football.
Pioli, who became assistant general manager of the Atlanta Falcons, offered Sowers a coaching internship in 2016. It was part of the Bill Walsh NFL Coaching Diversity Fellowship, an initiative started by the legendary 49ers coach to encourage and mentor minority coaching candidates. Sowers credits Pioli as a mentor, and the executive is also notable for having helped former Patriots and Chiefs offensive lineman Ryan O’Callaghan come to terms with his sexual orientation.
With the Falcons, she worked with assistant head coach/wide receivers coach Raheem Morris in coordinator practice drills. She also spent nine months as a scouting intern with Atlanta.
In 2017, she followed former Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to the 49ers, where he took over as head coach and she spent another year in the Coaching Diversity Fellowship. The next season, she was promoted to an offensive assistant and remains in that role today. She was just the second woman to earn a full-time job coaching in the NFL after Kathryn Smith, who was with the Bills in 2016.

Our differences make us stronger- “Difference is of the essence of humanity. Difference is an accident of birth and it should therefore never be the source of hatred or conflict. The answer to difference is to respect it. Therein lies a most fundamental principle of peace: respect for diversity.” – John Hume 1998 Nobel Peace Prize Winner . . . . . #faithful #Womeninsports #nfl #diversityandinclusion #breakingbarriers #bethechange #womeninfootball #49ers #niners #dreambig #teammwork

Sowers is an all-purpose offensive assistant, but her focus tends to be on receivers. When the 49ers made her internship into a full-time position, Shanahan talked about her role with the team.
“She helps (receivers coach) Mike LaFleur out just with some rotations,” Shanahan said. “She helps our quality controls out with all the stuff they have to do. She’s a hard worker. You don’t even notice her because she just goes to work and does what’s asked. Because of that, she’s someone we would like to keep around.”
Sowers maintains that her goal is to one day be a head coach in the NFL — and she’s positive she could do it.
Sowers’ coming out story has made her an LGBTQ role-model
Sowers came out to her family in college, and she says there were challenges, but that they were supportive of her. But coming out to your family and having your orientation be part of your public identity are two different things. In 2017, Sowers was contacted by Outsports, and she agreed to publicly come out in an interview with them.
Sowers put herself out there as a lesbian, despite technically being a coaching intern at the time. She became the first openly gay member of an NFL coaching staff when the piece was published.
“No matter what you do in life, one of the most important things is to be true to who you are,” Sowers told Outsports. “There are so many people who identify as LGBT in the NFL, as in any business, that do not feel comfortable being public about sexual orientation.”
This was only a few years removed from the NFL where Michael Sam was ousted after very brief stays with two teams in 2014. Since Sam, there have not been openly out active players in the NFL (though that will hopefully change this year with offensive line prospect Scott Frantz).
“The more we can create an environment that welcomes all types of people, no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, (or) religion, the more we can help ease the pain and burden that many carry every day,” Sowers told Outsports.
Sowers also said she believed there are a lot of people involved in the NFL who are LGBTQ. And that’s part of the reason she agreed to make her orientation public — as a sign that yes, it is possible for marginalized groups to succeed in a straight male-dominated sport, even if it can be an uphill battle.
When Sowers came out, she became the first openly LGBTQ coach not just in the NFL, but in male pro team sports.
Sowers is making an impact for the 49ers on and off the field
For the 49ers, Sowers is simply a coach who does a great job. The prevailing opinion from the players and coaches is that she shows up to work and does her job the same as any straight male coach would.
“She’s been tremendous,” quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said before the 49ers’ first playoff game this January. “Katie was here before I was, but just what she does with the receivers, all the skill positions guys, how she interacts with them — it’s special. She’s feisty, man. Katie’s awesome out there. She’ll get after guys. It’s fun to be around.”
“She’s one of the coolest coaches I’ve ever had,” wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders said leading up to the Super Bowl. “I like being around her. Just how she goes about her business and how positive she is.”
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk was also complimentary when asked about her at the 2018 Pro Bowl.
“Katie’s been phenomenal,” Juszczyk said, via Outsports. “She’s someone we’ve been able to lean on. If I ever have a question on a route or something, no hesitation and I can go talk to her. She’s a phenomenal asset to our team.”
While the 49ers treat Sowers the same as they would any other coach, she’s still a huge inspiration to many, particularly young girls.
If your daughter has a dream of being a football coach in the NFL... or a ballerina... or a professional soccer player.. or a teacher.. or a nurse.. or a doctor.. or an astronaut.. or even PRESIDENT.. just let her know this... She. Can. Do. It. And she will change the world.
— Katie Sowers (@KatieSowers) January 14, 2020
Sowers was signing autographs for women and girls before a preseason game in Denver when it fully hit her that she was making a difference.
“I had multiple families call me over and thank me for the doors I am opening for their daughters,” Sowers told Outsports. “I even met a few young girls who were so excited to see me and tell me their own story of the sports they play. It was a special moment that I will remember for a long time.”
Sowers has a chance to add even more to what is shaping up to be an incredible legacy when the 49ers play the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. She can go from the first openly gay woman coaching in a Super Bowl to the first openly gay woman winning in a Super Bowl.

Nothing Like The Gift Of A Knife In The Back (EPISODE 004)
Good evening, Fake Happy fans around the world! Your patience in waiting for this episode will pay off, we promise. There is some drama in store for you tonight.
We know you’ve all been asking about some of the smaller, lesser known folks on our tour, so let’s take a look at some of those first.
First up is the lovely Matt Hitt, vocalist for Drowners. It seems he’s having a bit of trouble making friends! He comes off as a bit of a loner. Here in his video confessional, however, he does mention he likes the company of one Jake Ewald. It seems to us Jake might be the one in need of a friend, though, so maybe Matt should stay close...
Second, we’ve got the beautiful Chrissy Costanza of Against The Current. She seems to think she’s boring and without much to say, but we beg to differ. There’s a little something going on between her and Otto Wood, known for his drumming skills and that dazzling smile. Hopefully it won’t be tainted by Otto’s big revelation this week.
But back to that in a minute. We’d also like to touch on Ryan Ross. His latest video confessional saw him admitting to suffering some depression and anxiety during the tour, but that he’s feeling more positive. We have to say, it’s a lot more reassuring than his previous confessional... he appeared high as a kite. But we’re glad he seems on the mend now, and we’re wishing him all the best!
Now, onto Otto. What a complicated little life he’s leading. On the rebound after a painful secret break-up, using Chrissy to drown his sorrows... and already has his eye on someone new. Someone taken. It seems he’s had his eye on Ashley Frangipane. “But wait!” we hear you cry. “Isn’t she dating Jake?” Why, yes, yes she is! Otto invited her out for ice-cream, and thinking it was a friendly offer from one of Jake’s closest friends, Ashley agreed. Otto seemed to insist that they go there hand-in-hand. Funnily enough, they went for ice-cream at the same place that Otto and Chrissy went for ice-cream. But otherwise, the sugary sweet day out was pretty platonic, up until they were almost back at the hotel.
“I… I have a crush on you. I have a huge crush on you and I think you should… should be with me. I just… had to tell you.”
Ashley was understandably surprised, and stated she was dating Jake, to which Otto replied that now she had options. He got a very surefire rejection, and that was the end of that. She ended up telling Jake that his friend had hit on her.
That’s one way to sour an ice-cream date. What do you think? Would Otto and Ashley make a better couple? Do you think this might drive a wedge between the happy couple? We’ll check back on these three next time.
Speaking of trouble in paradise, it seems John O’Callaghan and Flynn-Oakwood Williams are having some issues. Is the honeymoon phase over? They’re pretty cute together but is it enough? John mentioned in his confessional that Flynn has been a little jealous of John talking to Otto. Are we sensing a pattern here? Otto is getting a bit of a rep for luring people away from their spouses. Regardless, John seems to think they’re past that. But then, just recently John was staying with Hayley, who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend and Flynn’s sister. Seems a bit twisted, does it not? Perhaps Flynn has a reason to be jealous.
They’re not the only twosome that’s been fighting, though. The internet famous best friends, Dan Howell and Phil Lester, had a bit of a moment. Just out and about walking around, and Dan just seemed to... snap. Phil was in the midst of telling a joke when it happened.
“God, Phil, you’re so embarrassing. I should’ve just stayed in.”
Yikes! A little harsh. Phil looked a mix of confused and betrayed, and they seemed to go their separate ways after that. Wonder what brought that on? Or if they’ll fix it? It would be truly heartbreaking if these two weren’t so close any more. Intertwined in their personal lives and in their jobs... what a mess. Hope Dan has a good reason for such an outburst!
We’d like to finish the show with another love triangle for you. Who knew tours could be this messy, romance-wise? Well, we did. That’s why we wanna bring it to your screens.
We’re sure you’re all dying to know what’s going on with Taylor Swift. Lately, she’s been involved with one Mr. Ben Kowalewicz. Romantically? Not quite. But almost. Sexually? Most certainly. As he has also been with Demi Lovato, a friend of Taylor’s. Seems like a tangled web. It would appear that Taylor doesn’t actually want to be with Ben, though, and he definitely does want to be with her. After all, she does have a one-year-old to put first. But regardless, it seems like Ben is shopping elsewhere, so she probably deserves better. Don’t you think? Or are you rooting for them? Would you prefer to see Ben and Demi together?
Well, folks... what a lot of back-stabbing. Hopefully things are going to have a more positive outlook for our line-up next time! We can’t wait to show you, but until then, don’t forget to smile with your teeth!

Open game of Ryan Russell
Tumblr media
How difficult coming out is can been seen from Jason Collins example. He was the first NBA player to come out in 2013. “It takes an enormous amount of energy to guard such a big secret. I’ve endured years of misery and gone to enormous lengths to live a lie. I was certain that my world would fall apart if anyone knew. And yet when I acknowledged my sexuality I felt whole for the first time,” he remembered. Thus, the supportive efforts of NFL who established NFL Pride and helped LGBTQ Parade in New York this year are of the utmost importance. Luckily, the situation is much easier for female athletes where a bunch of them  are openly gay including WNBA players Brittney Griner, Elena Delle Donne, Diana Taurasi and a World Cup hero Megan Rapinoe.
Despite the support shown by NFL, openly LGBTQ players are still absent in all four American leagues or prefer to go stealth. Less than 10 NFL players decided to come out when retired.  The situation is however, about to change. As we reported previously, one of the veterans of NFL, Ryan O’Callaghan believes each NFL team has at least one closeted LGBTQ player. The breakthrough has been recently made by Ryan Russell, the defensive end who came out as a bisexual. He previously played for Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is currently awaiting for a new contract. "The NFL is looking for an opportunity to support LGBT athletes.  There's a kind of stigma that the NFL is conservative or however you might put it, but I believe it's an issue of visibility and opportunity. This is a moment to show everyone what the NFL is made of,” he said.
Even though the response to coming out was overwhelmingly positive, the job was hard. Ryan started from opening up to his family and after receiving their full support decided to let his teammates to know about his sexuality one-by-one. Ryan has also an advice from O’Callaghan who encouraged Russell to finally make a public announcement. Some of the tweets have, however, attempted to diminish Ryan’s brave move. The users claimed that the player should focus on game rather than his sexuality. Those comments clearly demonstrate how deep misunderstanding of LGBTQ issues is. That is, the closeted has no way to be himself/ herself/themselves. The latter, in turn can directly affect their skills that can be undermined by a psychological trauma caused by going stealth.

“O’Callaghan decided early on that he would hide behind football. The sport would be his "beard," and the jersey on his back would throw off the scent and keep his secret hidden for over a dozen years on a journey that saw him playing college ball at the University of California and in the NFL with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs.” “O’Callaghan learned very quickly that football was the best place in the world for a gay teenager to hide. The brute, physical nature of the sport went against every stereotype of gay men he knew. At his size, few people would suspect he was gay, and if he was a football player on top of that, he felt his secret would be buried."No one is going to assume the big football player is gay," he said. "It’s why a football team is such a good place to hide.”
“O’Callaghan saw his personality change as the football accolades flowed in. The quiet, shy kid who didn’t mind hanging out with the band geeks turned into Mr. Popular, gregarious with his friends but "a bit of a bully" to the very kids who resembled him just two years earlier.Shortly after his junior year he attended a camp at UC-Berkeley. The football staff offered him a scholarship on the spot and he took it. He was going to have football for the next four or five years as a great cover for his sexuality. At Cal he found every way possible to fit in as a straight guy. Playing football helped, but he had convinced himself that it wasn’t enough.” “Soon after arriving in Berkeley he found another perfect cover. He was out with his teammates when a cute young woman, a fellow Golden Bear, came across their table. She ordered a drink, said hello to the guys and — of all the athletes sitting around the table — sat right on O’Callaghan’s lap.He had spent countless nights imagining what to do in a scenario such as this, all to make sure that no one would suspect he was gay. What would he say? What would he do? He had envisioned this very moment over and over again. He was well prepared and he played the role perfectly. After some small talk, he left with the young woman on his arm, making sure his teammates could see him. O’Callaghan was now, he figured, undeniably straight. "That bought me a couple years," he said, nodding. "Because once they see you leave with someone, that’s different from them just seeing me talk with them."“
Get the picture. And this poor dude was going to commit suicide. Then there are others who don’t even hide and are well known to be gay within the NFL... and they know no one is going to expose them because of  team rules “don’t rat anyone out”. And because they know how to appropriately “keep others quiet”.

"Being gay wasn’t just a small detail in my life, it consumed it. It's all I would think about," O'Callaghan said. "But now that I have come out it rarely crosses my mind. Yeah I'd go about my daily life in football, but thinking about hiding it and hoping no one finds out and being ready for any situation was exhausting.”
"It's not always easy being honest, but I can tell you it's much easier and more enjoyable being yourself and not living a lie," he added.
