I want to preface this post with saying that I think the designer did a good job on the new Monster High dolls and my issue is with Marketing's pricing. Is it just me or are the prices on these Monster High the Shining dolls kind of steep? Maybe part of it is that they are a licensed merchandise and maybe if I was a fan of the movie (not into horror films) the price wouldn't bother me. The Cleo and Ghoulia set that was supposed to be an SDCC exclusive that ended up being sold on Mattel's site was $50. I personally don't see these as higher quality than the $50 set. I also imagine less production costs with these since there are two dolls that are identical with the exception of the eyebrows. However, the pre-orders sold out pretty quickly so apparently they are worth it to a lot of peole. Just my honest thoughts...

Okay, so i have collected Monster High dolls for a few years now. I fell in love with them since i saw them. They were exactly what i was looking for and i was excited to continue buying more. I have to clarify i’m almost 24 now and back then i was, 20? ‘Quite old for dolls and toys’ as many say. But i don’t mind, because this is what i love, is a part of me. One of the reasons why i decided to support MH, actually. They were more than just fashion dolls! These dolls went against everything that was previously stated as the norm in the dollie world. Their proportions, their make-up, their clothes...Everything was different and their concept was creative. They were monsters, yes, but they managed to make them so captivating and beautiful. Oh so Beautiful!! Most importantly they made a statement! They were standing against society in a world ruled by it and it’s rules about ‘Beauty’ and ‘Perfection’. They taught kids to be themselves and to accept who they are. Flaws and all!

Then many things happen and finally, the infamous reboot!!  It wouldn’t be a big deal if i could understand their reasons, but changing for the little few not only goes against their own concept but also all of the people who have loved and support this line. Trying to gain the minority while loosing everyone else isn’t worth it! We love them the way they are! Maybe doing a re-release of ALL of wave 1 could get people excited to buy more. A true re-release, like they did with Frankie, Draculaura and Clawdeen a few years ago, not an economy doll. Maybe not making ‘signature dolls’ as SDCC exclusive could help too. But changing everything this dolls were, what they represented? Doesn’t seem logical to me. All i know is, i will not be buying the rebooted dolls and i hope they listen to the people. The many who are trying to SAVE what they love.

The point of Monster High is to encourage people to celebrate their own unique individualities, embrace their freaky flaws and be happy with who you/they are. Mattel is attempting to redo everything that makes Monster High what it is and what it has always meant to young adults and teens all over the globe. The fact that these corporate slimebags are trying to force the fans into the generic cookie-cutter ideals and moulds that is the expected Norms of the American teen, just shows how little they actually know about the average Monster High fan. Reboot Cleo original leaked photo (left) vs actual release (right). I can't help but love that original face, so full of personality. I believe they reused Boo York Cleo's head for this, which makes me love it even more because that doll is gore-geous!
