WWE WrestleMania 40 Night One 4/6/24
Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Becky Lynch for the Women's World Championship -- Beautiful Northern Lights suplex by Rhea. Becky reverses a vertical suplex attempt by Rhea into an inside cradle for two. Nice delayed vertical suplex by Rhea. Becky with an arm drag off the top! Commentary mentions Rhea's taped arm. Becky lands a tornado DDT off the ropes for two! Becky lands a leg drop on the apron, as Rhea hangs over the ropes. Becky lands an exploder into the barricade outside! Becky lands a leg drop off the top inside for two! Rhea catches Becky off the top, slams her down to the mat, and lands a nasty knee to the face for two!! Damn! Becky escapes a Riptide attempt and yanks back on Rhea's arm, pulling it into her double knees, then transitions into an arm bar. Rhea muscles Becky up and lands two consecutive powerbombs with Becky still hanging onto the arm, then Rhea lands a third, huge sit-out powerbomb for two!!! Geez!!! Rhea with a big boot for two! They exchange overhand chops, Rhea lands a big headbutt! Becky locks in Disarmher in the ropes for 5 and slams Rhea's head into the ring post! Becky goes for a leg drop off the top, but Rhea catches her in a standing, inverted Cloverleaf! Rhea falls to the mat and maintains the hold with body scissors as well. Becky gets Rhea's shoulders down for two. Becky reverses another Riptide attempt into a Manhandle slam for two! Rhea finally lands Riptide into a high stack, but Becky kicks out at 2.5! Wtf!! Becky lands a superplex off the top, holds on, and quickly transitions into Disarmher! Rhea escapes by maneuvering Becky onto her shoulders in electric chair position and standing up!! Becky flips Rhea over the ropes to the outside. They both go over, but Rhea manages to hold onto Becky, who is still on her shoulders on the outside. Rhea falls back and slams Becky back-first to the floor!!!! Damn! Rhea lands a frog splash off the top for two! Becky goes for a Manhandle slam off the top, but Rhea reverses and lands Riptide onto the top turnbuckle!!! Holy shit! Then another Riptide in the middle of the ring for the pinfall!!! Hell yeah!!!!!
This was an awesome match. Great arm work by Becky, great power stuff by Rhea as usual, awesome finish with the Riptide on the top turnbuckle. Loved it. Rating: 4
Finn Bálor and Damian Priest (c) vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs. Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate vs. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods vs. The Miz and R-Truth vs. Austin Theory and Grayson Waller -- Ladder Match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships -- Bate with the airplane spin on Bálor, then hurls him into a ladder in the corner! Bate and Dunne land beautiful stereo moonsaults off a ladder to the floor outside!!! Bate climbs the ladder inside, but Priest hurls Dunne into the ladder and Bate falls down! Truth with a five knuckle shuffle, then an AA on Bálor onto a ladder! Truth pins Bálor for three and thinks he has won the match. Miz lands a SCF on Priest. Gargano hits Sweet Chin Music, then Ciampa hits a Pedigree at Truth's encouragement. Waller and Theory sneak in, climb the ladder, and grab the SD tag titles. Wtf is going on???
Bate comes in with a right hand to Theory, then Dunne and Bate land a double powerbomb over the top rope onto a ladder laid horizontally between the apron and announce table on Waller!!!! Damn!! Gargano lands a somersault senton off the apron! Xavier with an elbow drop off the top rope onto Ciampa onto a ladder propped horizontally on the ropes! Nasty looking. Kofi and Xavier are on the ladder inside, and Kofi falls backward onto everyone on the floor! Theory comes in and climbs. Bate and Dunne land a Birminghammer on Theory off the ladder!!!! Damn!!
Gargano lands a slingshot DDT over the ropes/apron and through a table on the floor on Dunne!!! Holy shit!!! Ciampa lands White Noise on Bate off the top of the ladder inside!!! Oh my god!!!!!! Truth climbs the ladder, but JD McDonagh comes in to suplex Truth off the ladder and tries to help Bálor climb. Kofi stops it with chair shots to Bálor. Xavier and Kofi tip the ladder and send JD flying through a table outside! Priest comes in with Razor's Edge on Kofi onto a chair! Geez. Priest grabs a ladder. Truth comes in to stop him, and lands an AA over the ropes, dumping Priest to the floor! Truth climbs the ladder and grabs the RAW tag belts!
This was a very entertaining match, but Theory and Waller winning the SD titles in the middle of the match was not only confusing (because I didn't ever hear anyone state that there could be two winners before), but an absolutely ridiculous choice that sucked the wind out of the match for me. Truth grabbing the RAW titles was pretty obvious and not necessarily something I needed to see, but it's a nice moment for Miz and Truth. Overall, this was a great, fast-paced, chaotic match with lots of awesome spots, especially Gargano's slingshot DDT through the table and Ciampa's White Noise off the ladder. DIY and Dunne/Bate were the obvious stars of this match, and should have been the winners. Rating: 3.75
Rey Mysterio and Andrade vs. Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio -- LET'S GOOOOOO, ANDRADE. Andrade fakes a boot, then absolutely MURDERS Escobar with a disgusting back elbow!!! Damn!! Andrade has Rey in electric chair position on the top and jumps, and they land a double cross body to the outside! Nice lol. Escobar with a nice tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on Rey for two. Dom blocks a 619 with a spinning elbow. Escobar has Rey upside down on his own back, but Rey reverses into a Code Red! Andrade lands his aggressive running double knees to Dom in the corner, and goes for a moonsault off the top. Dom moves, and Andrade follows with a standing moonsault for two! Rey lands 619 on Escobar, and Andrade lands a beautiful moonsault off the top rope to Dom on the floor! Escobar lands a hurricanrana on Rey off the top! Zelina lands a moonsault off the ropes to Elektra on the outside! She kinda misses, and only really hits Elektra with her legs. Looked kinda nasty. Rey lands a double 619 on Dom and Escobar, and Andrade lands his beautiful double underhook neckbreaker on Dom! Rey lands a frog splash off the top on Escobar for the pinfall!
Very good match! Very entertaining. Andrade looked fantastic here, outshining everyone else in the match by a mile. I am so happy to see him get a nice WrestleMania moment here. Rating: 3.25
Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso -- Jey jumps Jimmy before the bell. But Jimmy turns it around and dominates the match. Jimmy with multiple superkicks to Jey. Jimmy comes off the top, but Jey avoids it and catches him with a superkick. They trade shots in the middle of the ring. Drop down uppercut by Jimmy, and Jey responds with one of his own. Enziguri by Jimmy, and Jey responds with one of his own. Superkick by Jimmy, same by Jey. Superkick by Jimmy, same by Jey. Two more superkicks by Jey. Dropkick by Jey. Jey goes for another superkick, and Jimmy covers his face. Jey hesitates. Jimmy says he is sorry for everything and he was wrong, and reaches out a hand to Jey. Jey takes it. Jimmy has suckered him in for another superkick. Jimmy lands a frog splash off the top for two. Jimmy sets up for a spear, but Jey cuts him off with a spear of his own, then lands a frog splash off the top for the pinfall.
That was so mind-numbingly boring. It only went 11 minutes, and yet I felt like it would never end. If I had to see one more superkick, I was going to start crying (and people talk about the Bucks). It never felt like the big, animosity-filled grudge match that it should have been. There was no heat at all really. The crowd didn't care. The Usos didn't seem like they cared. I didn't care. I hated this. Rating: 1
Bianca Belair, Naomi, and Jade Cargill vs. Asuka, Kairi Sane, and Dakota Kai -- Sane with a big elbow drop! Bianca goes nuts with a backbreaker to Asuka, delayed vertical suplex to Sane, nice tilt-a-whirl gutbuster to Dakota, spinebuster to Asuka, press slam to Sane onto Asuka and Dakota, and a springboard handspring moonsault into a cover on all three! They all kick out! Jade comes in with a chokeslam to Dakota, then catches Sane off the top and lands a backbreaker on her knee, then just hurls Dakota over her shoulder and lands a Michinoku Driver! Jade covers, but Asuka and Sane break up the pin. Bianca ducks a kick by Asuka, whips the hell out of Asuka with her hair, then lands KOD! Jade lands the Jaded facebuster on Dakota for the pinfall.
This was a technically solid match with good action in the ring, but it didn't really go anywhere or mean anything. The obvious team wins, and Jade gets a big moment that I'm not sure she's ready for. Rating: 2.75
Sami talks to his wife and son backstage before his match. Oh god, not the family. This does not bode well for Gunther. Gable asks Sami if he is ready. Sami says, "Let's go do this." Gable says he wants Sami to go out there by himself. He says Sami's got this on his own, but Sami owes him a favor. Kevin meets Sami as he is about to walk through the curtain, hugs him, and screams for him to go do it! I am not crying, Hunter!!!!!!! No matter what you do, you can't make me want Sami to win this match!!! It's not working!!! Lmao.
Gunther makes his entrance, and now I am crying. My god. I love that man. Help me.
Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship -- Gunther with some disrespect to Sami from the beginning. Sami lands some chops, and Gunther catches him off the ropes with a German suplex! Gunther lands a HUGE chop!! And boots to the face!! Gunther with more nasty chops and uppercuts! He hangs Sami over the top rope, lands a chop, and stretches his back/neck over the ropes for five!! Gunther with a nasty chop to the back!!! Then an uppercut, a knee, and more chops!!!! Sami slaps Gunther in the face, and Gunther responds with CHOP FROM HELL!!!!! HOT DAMN!!!!! They exchange chops! Sami lands a big lariat! Gunther lands nasty overhand chops to the throat!!! Geez!!! Sami responds with a flurry of strikes and lands two half and half suplexes!!! Gunther turns Sami inside out with a huge lariat for two!!!! Sami with a big overhand chop and a tornado DDT off the ropes! Sami goes for a Helluva kick, but Gunther stops it and catches him in a sleeper! Sami escapes! Gunther blocks a Blue Thunder Bomb attempt! Sami lands clubbing blows to the back of Gunther's head, and goes for the Blue Thunder Bomb again, but Gunther reverses again and locks the sleeper back in deep, falling aggressively back to the mat with body scissors!!!! Ahhhh!!!! Sami gets to his feet and reaches for the ropes, but Gunther stops him with a German suplex! Gunther runs at Sami, but Sami stops him with an exploder into the corner! Sami goes for a Helluva kick, but Gunther cuts him off with a big shotgun dropkick, then lands a NASTY powerbomb into a high stack!!! Sami kicks out at 2.5!!!!!!!!!
Gunther lands a HELLUVA KICK OF HIS OWN!!!! But Sami follows up immediately with a Helluva kick and covers, but Gunther kicks out!!!! Sami goes for another Helluva kick, but Gunther turns him inside out with a lariat, then lands two consecutive powerbombs without letting go into a high stack!!!! I AM CRYING!!!!!!! Sami kicks out at 2.5!!!!! Wtf!!!!!!!
Gunther yells at Sami's wife in the front row!! Dreamy sigh!!!!!!!!!!! Gunther with chops to Sami on his knees, a boot across the throat, and STOMPS TO THE HEAD!!!!! OH MY GOD, I AM FREAKING OUT!!! Gunther lands a huge lariat!!!!! Gunther gestures at Sami's wife to come on!!! Beautiful shit!!!! Gunther lands ANOTHER POWERBOMB!!! Gunther lands two frog splashes off the top!! He goes for another, but Sami fires himself up on the mat and finally comes back with a Helluva kick to Gunther on the top!! Sami lands a BRAINBUSTER ON THE TOP TURNBUCKLE!!!! HOLY SHIT!!!!!!! Sami lands two more Helluva kicks!!!! Cover by Sami!!!!! 1, 2, 3!!!
Oh my god, I am freaking out. That match rocked so hard. Both guys were absolutely amazing. It was structured perfectly with Gunther doing the dominant, heel shtick to perfection and wrestling like the badass that he is, and Sami playing the perfect babyface, rallying at the end, and having to pull out something absolutely insane like the top turnbuckle brainbuster to put Gunther away. Needless to say, I am devastated about Gunther losing. Just devastated. As well done as this match was, the build to the match was not given nearly enough time and focus for Gunther's historic 660+ day reign to have ended here. I'm so upset. I love Sami, and I have waited for a moment like this for him for a long time, but the only thing I didn't want was for it to happen at Gunther's expense. I am overcome with emotions. Rating: 4.5
Roman Reigns and The Rock vs. Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes (If Reigns and the Rock win, Reigns vs. Cody tomorrow night will be Bloodline Rules) -- Roman and Seth start the match. Cody tags in. He and Roman do a bunch of nothing. Seth and Rock tag in. They lock up. Seth shoves Rock. Rock and Seth trade rights. Rock lands a lariat to Seth. Rock gestures for Cody to come on. Seth tags Cody. Cody with a drop-down right and some kicks to Rock in the corner. Seth and Cody land double back elbows to Rock. Seth lands a slingblade on Roman.
The match breaks down with all four throwing hands in the ring. Seth and Rock fight on the outside. Rock yells at the ref that if he counts, he's fired. Cody and Roman fight on the ramp. Rock and Seth take it out into the crowd. Cody with a vertical suplex to Roman on the stage. Rock with a plastic trash can to Seth's head. Seth lands a double axe handle off the barricade to Rock.
Roman makes it back into the ring before Cody, despite being the one on the receiving end of the suplex on the stage. Roman with a chopblock to Seth's knee on the apron, and Seth tumbles to the floor. Renowned technical wrestler The Rock with the work on Seth's knee!!!!!!! Lmaoooo. He wraps the knee around the post. Roman tags in with stomps to Seth's knee, then wraps the knee around the rope, then locks in a single leg crab! Seth escapes. Rock slings Seth back-first into the ring steps twice. Rock and Roman sling Seth repeatedly into the turnbuckles. Roman with corner lariats to Seth, then a boot to the face. Roman goes for a Superman punch, but Seth intercepts it with a swinging neckbreaker. Rock with a low blow to Seth right in front of the ref, who does nothing, because he supposedly will be fired if he does. Rock with repeated right hands to Seth. Seth responds with an enziguri. Seth tries to make the tag, but Roman pulls Cody off the apron. Rock with a sharpshooter on Seth!!! Lmao!!!! Cody breaks it up with a right hand to Rock's face. Seth lands the curb stomp on Rock!!
Cody and Roman tag in. Cody with a nice powerslam on Roman, then a disaster kick, then a Cody Cutter for two! Roman reverses a Cross Rhodes attempt. Cody goes for another Cody Cutter, but Roman stops him in midair with a Superman punch. Roman's nose is busted and bleeding. Roman goes for a spear, but Cody avoids it with a sunset flip into a roll up for two. Then Cody lands a Cody Cutter and make the tag to Seth as he does it. Seth lands a top rope frog splash on Roman for two! The crowd sings Seth's theme. Heyman: "I HATE THAT DAMN SONG." Lmaooo. Seth goes for a stomp, but Roman stops it with a powerbomb. Roman goes for a spear, but Seth stops it with a kick. Cody tags in. Stereo superkicks by Cody and Seth. Curb stomp by Seth! Cody lands Cross Rhodes on Roman and covers, but the Rock pulls the ref out of the ring at 2.5!
Roman with a low blow and a spear to Cody, and the Rock throws the ref back in the ring, but Cody kicks out at 2.5! Roman locks in a guillotine on Cody. Cody keeps the arm up. Roman drops to the mat and keeps it locked in, as Rock holds onto Cody's feet. Seth lands a curb stomp to Roman to break it up! Cody with jabs to the Rock's face, then a bionic elbow. Cody runs the ropes, but Rock catches him with a spinebuster. Rock goes for the People's Elbow, but Cody stops it with a Cody Cutter. Cody goes for Cross Rhodes on Rock, but Roman stops it with a Superman punch from out of nowhere! Roman goes for a spear on Cody, but Seth dives and pushes Cody out of the way! Roman spears the Rock instead! Stereo Pedigrees by Seth and Cody and covers on both Rock and Roman for 2.5!
Seth lands a cross body off the top on Roman. Rock slams Cody's head into the ring steps, then tells Cody's mom in the front row to look at her son, as he goes for Rock Bottom on the announce table. Seth interferes, and Cody reverses with a Rock Bottom of his own on the announce table! Roman spears Seth through the barricade outside! Cody rolls the Rock into the ring, but Roman comes in with a drive-by dropkick to Cody on the apron! Cody and Roman trade right hands in the middle of the ring! Cody lands two Cross Rhodes on Roman and goes for another, but the Rock comes from behind with the weight belt to Cody's back! Roman lands a spear on Cody, then tags in the Rock. The Rock lands a Rock Bottom, then the People's Elbow, then covers Cody for the pinfall.
I was bored to tears for the majority of this match, but that's no surprise. I'm not sure exactly how long it went on, but at least the first half was completely pointless. Nothing happened. The match was entirely too long. All of that walking around the arena doing absolutely nothing in the beginning could have been cut out. 30 minutes would have been too long for a match involving 51-year-old Rock, but 45 minutes is obscene. It picked up a little toward the end with some solid spots, but it was never going to be enough to save this match from being a disaster. Also, the Rock threatening the ref into allowing them to do whatever they wanted in this match made the stipulation of "Bloodline Rules tomorrow night if Rock and Roman win" totally irrelevant. I guess it's Bloodline Rules regardless if the Rock says so. I knew Rock and Roman would win, but Rock getting the pinfall on Cody is iffy for me. But I guess it couldn't be Roman before they face each other tomorrow. There was really no good way to finish it. Anyway, with the horrendous beginning and the solid ending, this evens out to an average match, I guess. Rating: 2.5

WWE should just get rid of the Raw and SD Women's Championships and make the WWE Women's Championship and revive the WCW Women's Championship as the Women's World, and the reason I say this is because having Bianca and Rhea swap belts, thus ending Bianca's reign via draft, demeans title reigns so much and makes them feel worthless as titles. Stop with the branded titles, they feel worthless.

Thoughts on Smackdown?
Hey anon! Good to have you back! I’m always so happy when this message pops up in my inbox, you wouldn’t believe it 💜
Thanks for sticking with me through all my ramblings and novel-length replies to this. (I lovingly call you “my Smackdown anon” inside my own head & if you couldn’t tell, I’m rather fond of you!)
Short answer: Honestly? I LOVED the latest episode of SD 😭 The only thing I didn’t care for was the AJ Styles/Karrion Kross thing, but other than that the show was really right up my alley!
Segment by segment under the cut (as always):
Charlotte vs. Asuka: I loved seeing the women open the show! Kinda gives me hope that we’ll finally be having a couple of good feuds in the women’s division again. We’ll see. The match was really good and I didn’t mind the finish with Damage CTRL interfering. I’d love to see an actual Iyo/Asuka feud over the championship, so I’m still kinda hoping they’ll bring a heel!Bianca back into the mix to feud with Charlotte far away from the championship picture. I also hope they’ll keep the title on Iyo for a while, so the eventual Iyo/Bayley feud can involve the title. That’s my wishful thinking though. My guess is they’re going for a triple threat Iyo/Charlotte/Asuka for this one? But I’m still not sure where Bianca fits in, so I still have hope.
AJ Styles vs. Karrion Kross: Like I said, I do not care and I doubt I ever will. The Karrion Kross thing is simply not working for me and I’m bored. I love seeing Michin though, so that’s a little light in the dark that was this match/ this entire "feud".
Edge/ Sheamus Promo: God this promo made me so emotional. I’m not gonna lie, I cried. A LOT. Edge is the wrestler who turned me into a fan as a kid. His match against Mick Foley at WM turned me from a casual watcher into a devoted fan/weekly watcher all the way back then. (I know I keep repeating myself, but this man is why I’m a wrestling fan in the first place and in a different reality with different physical limitations I would’ve become a wrestler because of him). When he retired for the first time, I was in a state of complete shock and didn’t stop crying over it for a long long time. Hell, I even had to stop watching for a while back then. His comeback is still one of my favorite memories of all time and if the rumor mill is telling the truth and the match against Sheamus truly is his last one… then I’m so glad I got to witness his second run and that he gets to go out on his own terms and share the ring with the person who got him back into it in the first place. These two mean so much to each other and each other’s careers, so seeing them in the ring together? God I’m not even gonna see the match through all these tears, am I? Guaranteed banger incoming! The point is: I fucking LOVE Edge, okay? He’ll always be the man who got me hooked on wrestling and he’ll always be one of the greatest to ever do it.
LA Knight vs. Top Dolla: I say it every week. LA Knight needs longer matches and better opponents. But I like what they have going on with him and Miz over on Raw, so I didn’t mind this as much as I usually would. His lil promo was another feel good moment. I feel like this SD was full of these, maybe that’s part of why I liked it so much.
Street Profits & Lashley: I love these weekly build-up promos 👀 And I can’t wait till they finally get into the ring for an actual match again. That gold comment - the sky is the limit 👀 Let’s hope so! Give them some good and strong opponents pls! Now that The Usos aren’t running the tag division on SD (at least temporarily), we need good teams to keep the division relevant!
Rey vs. Theory: Theory having to attack Santos not once, but twice to stop him from competing? I’m sorry, that’s kinda hilarious lmao. We all know I fucking hate the guy, no secrets there, so when they announced Rey vs Theory I cheered so damn loud! It was probably the plan all along, but they had to change plans for a bit, until Rey’s condition was all clear. So the attack angle made perfect sense and REY FUCKING WON YES!!! My god I’m so glad that he did! (1) he obviously deserved it so much and (2) thank god I won’t have to see that fucking idiot carrying around that belt anymore. Rey is a believable and awesome candidate to beat Theory and he made that idiot look good, still. Theory’s thing obviously isn’t working rn, so even though I hate it, they’ll probably work on changing stuff and build him up over time. The extra pressure is off now that he no longer holds the title though. I think they should send him walking, but it’s WWE, so y’know. They’ll obviously keep the sleazebag. I’m so so excited for Rey though! I’m hoping that they won’t turn it into a lengthy Rey/Theory feud though, keep that idiot far far away from any title picture and maybe off my tv for a while for good? Pls and thx.
Bloodline/ Jey / Jimmy aka the Main event: First of all? That “Why Jimmy why?” sign cracked me up so bad for some reason. And Jimothy popping up outta nowhere like a badass? Idk, it had me laughing (in a good way). And the “you sold out“ chants? Yes pls. Give that boy all the damn heat! (He had no business looking this fine btw, just saying 👀) And then that little spiel from Roman with Paul doing his gestures in the background lmao. I keep saying it and I’ll probably say it a whole lot more. If you don’t love Paul Heyman, you’re doing something wrong. Jimothy’s “I don’t want nothing from you“ - as we predicted he didn’t do it for Roman (thank god for that. I couldn’t have handled another “I did it for The Rock. I did it for the people!” situation - of you know you know) And Roman being so obviously confused and arrogant about the whole thing (and Paul acting all offended on his behalf lmao). Man really thinks the sun shines out of his ass. Each segment is gold, my god. These Samoans (and the Wise Man) give me life 😭😭😭 And then Jey comes out and makes the whole thing a million times better. He looked ready for bloody murder 🥵 Jimmy telling Roman to stand down and that he got this and Roman actually doing just that? Something shady is going on here. Jimmy, babe, I see you and I love you, but I don’t trust your evil ass as far as I can throw it. I LOVE looking at Roman and Paul while Jimmy gives his explanation to Jey lmao. Roman is so done with Jimmy’s ass lol. And the way he looked so fucking proud of himself, especially when the crowd started the “asshole“ chant while Paul was once again so offended on his behalf? God the LAYERS to this segment were once again INSANE. They went through so many genres here, damn. Like… we know this is cinema and it really truly proves to be cinema week in week out. I love how even Solo reacts visibly. None and I mean NONE of them were buying Jimmy’s bullshit and neither was Jey. You keep lying through your teeth Jimothy, but people will see straight through your crap. Man when Jey turned his back on Jimmy. Just… GOLD. And Roman’s evil bitch laugh pls. I love that man and I hate that man and I love to hate that man 😭 “Acknowledge m-“ *eats superkick to the face*, I should not have laughed as loudly as I did. Jey really said I’m gonna clean house today. And then Jimmy fucking ran to him with open arms and Jey kicked him in the face? I WAS SCREAMING. JEY USO THE MAN YOU ARE 😭😭😭 I dunno if this was supposed to get me super emotional or not, but I was laughing so hard throughout the whole thing, cause that shit was so entertaining. Jey gave zero fucks about any of this shit lmao. BADASS. They really said let’s strap a rocket to this man’s butt and push him to the moon before he takes his well-deserved break. They turned him into a rockstar with this segment. I said what I said. (I’m gonna miss Jey while he’s gone for sure, I’m gonna miss the rest of them if they’re gonna off tv for a while too, but this segment was a good and memorable way to send them off in my opinion. Now I’m sitting here like this is Finding Nemo and I’m one of those damn fish in the plastic bags asking “Now what?”)
Overall, as I said at the beginning, I really LOVED this episode. It had so many feel good moments and just so many things I genuinely enjoyed!
Thanks again for asking, anon & many hugs to you! 💕

WWE Extreme Rules 2022 - Results & Review
Tumblr media
So it's time for WWE to get EXTREEEEEEEME again, with a PPV that snuck up on me tbf. I thought we had another week, but nope the show is already in the books, so let's get a match-by-match rundown of the show
Spoilers for the PPV, you have been warned
I skimmed through the Kickoff btw. Booker T being NXT Commentator makes me wanna watch NXT less to be fair, most of what Book says in and out of WWE is just twod. Also had to be reminded that Logan Paul is getting a world title match...eurgh.
Overall, no matches on Kickoff so no reason to watch.
The Opening Package for a dumbass kid on a Spelling Bee was weird, the stage was a bit uncreative it's just a big screen.
Good Ol' Fashioned Donnybrook The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland & Butch) def. Imperium (GUNTHER, Giovanni Vinci & Ludwig Kaiser) [Pinfall by Sheamus on Vinci via Brogue Kick] The White Rabbit graphics showed up during the brutes' entrance, cameramen did struggle early to keep track of the match. It was mostly a battle of numbers between Shamu, Dutch and Sundance against WALTER, Giodude and Wilhelm, Imperium having the early control, there was some good team offense from the Ringkampf guys, but of course Shamu's big face turn is what commands the crowd energy. There was callback to the SD match when Vinci cracked Sheamus with a shillelagh while he had GUNTHER locked in a cloverleaf but this time it was broken up. The match was physical but it was limited on its weapon usage until the final third when it was Shillelagh's flying around everywhere, Irish Cross on the announcer's table kept GUNTHER down for Sheamus to brogue Vinci who was held down by the Brutes. Good match to open with.
The Miz/Dexter stuff showed Gritty the Hockey Mascot following Miz throughout the show, mainly to set up a Raw segment, Miz attacked Gritty finally and then Dexter jumped him to save the mascot.
SD Women's Championship Ronda Rousey def. Liv Morgan (c) [Submission via ??? Choke] - NEW CHAMPION Ronda didn't have a huge pop really, it was muddled as she came out in a pink Gi and a UFC outfit with 'Submit' all over - if that wasn't gonna telegraph her plan of attack, bad makeup too. Liv came out in Extreme Rules colors and a Bat, she did get a better pop than Ronda in spite of her shitting booking. And Shitty booking is what we got, with Liv needing a weapon to exude confidence while Ronda toyed with the champion, reversing any attempt of offense she had. I think the longest time of advantage Liv had was a minute, maybe two right at the end. The finish was, messy, Liv hit a table senton and then Ronda just comes to life with an armbar, Liv powerbombs her into the table shards for another 2, then Ronda - still doing the hold - struggles to shift her position into what looked more like a Dis-arm-her but also using a table piece to sell it like a triangle choke and Liv passed out. It was weak to be fair, because Liv looked weak and then she's laughing in defeat. The two worked well but the match was wrong, the only consolation is that Liv still remains over, so she can rebuild.
Strap Match Karrion Kross (w/Scarlett) def. Drew McIntyre [Pinfall via Kross Hammer] I'm still unsure about Kross with hair tbf XD but Scarlett of course serving in her outfit. Pre-match assault while Drew is strapped built some heat as they brawled in the crowd and then eventually back to the ring where Drew has to strap Kross to start the match officially. Kross zoned in on the shoulder using the strap, Drew eventually hulked up though, Scarlett macing Drew after blocking a Claymore and then Kross hitting the Kross Hammer. It was a bit of a slow match really, right result and well worked but weak finish: I would've brought the White Rabbit back here.
Raw Women's Championship - Ladder Match Bianca Belair (c) def. Bayley Bit weird to see Nikkita Lyons be highlighted in the crowd, given how she's barely a big deal in the NXT Women's Division. At the very least Bayley saved some time to feud with her forever enemy: Michael Cole. The match had a great pace, starting with both sides simply trying to distance their opponent to climb the ladder, then both sides using the ladder to keep their opponent writhing. Belair hit a KOD after dodging Bayley using a part of her knee brace but Damage CTRL got involved, she got a scrappy double KOD, I think Kota held onto the ropes too long. Belair got to show her strength by lifting the ladder while underneath it, then hit a KOD onto Bayley again who was holding a ladder (bit miffed why she didn't drop it) to climb the ladder. I expected Belair to win because of WarGames coming up, it was a good match but could've gotten more, made Damage CTRL look weak that Belair was able to solo them.
I Quit Match Finn Balor def. Edge Balor came out in a full-face spike mask which was weird, why hide that handsome mug? The refs and Balor act like they've never seen an I Quit match ever, pulling the microphone for general submission moves and regular wrestling offense that wouldn't get a tap out or 3 count. We went into the crowd again where Edge got a hockey stick for area pop, using it for a crossface for a while. I wonder why there was so many people at the gate tunnel, like why aren't you at your seat? After driving him nuts first, Balor used the railing downstairs and a steel chair before returning to the ring. Commentary had been good all show with ECW and WCW references, but Corey ruined it by saying 'Frankenstein didn't intend to make the Monster' ...I mean, he did, he stitched up a corpse to bring it to life. Edge fought back by using a chair on Balor's legs and then an Edgeucator, but then Priest and Dom showed up to save Finn. Rhea then cuffed Edge to the ropes before he could Spear Finn, leading to a 3-on-1 assault and Finn smacking Edge with a Kendo Stick. Rey finally showed up to attack Priest and Finn but Dom beat him down, so Beth Phoenix came out using the Kendo - somehow faring better than legend Rey Mysterio - before Rhea stared her down, Beth speared Rhea and uncuffed her husband to hit Prist with a spear, low blowed Dom for revenge, Speared Finn 3 times and prepared the Chair rod Crossface. BUT, Rhea brass knuckle'd Beth and after Priest's South of Heaven and 3 Coup de Grace, they blackmailed Edge to quit by threatening Beth with a Con-Chair-To. He quit, then they hit her anyway.
The main negative I have is mostly how much they waste Rey on this feud, who is back alive in time for the match to be over because WWE book him as the most ineffective babyface in the world. There's not wanting to fight your son and there's this, he showed up late, ditched the chair he was holding and dropped to a punch in the face, it's not what I like to see from the guy who got me into wrestling. Otherwise this was a good match - perhaps dragged a bit long but right result and outcome.
Fight Pit Riddle def. Seth Rollins [Submission via Triangle Choke] Bronn Breakker was in the crowd for this one, that one made more sense as a champion. Seth came out in the blue RVD uniform, guess maybe a marijuana slight against Riddle? Riddle took over most of the start of the match, expected since he's been in all 3, but Cormier seems to be a bit too physical for a ref, especially for a No DQ scenario. Seth kept going for the 10 count, including an off-the-cage splash, but Riddle kept getting up and responding to his smack talk. Cormier may've botched a little not counting when Riddle got hit with the stomp, the delayed count led to Seth trying a Super Stomp but missing, then hiding up the elevated platform. Both used the extended environment, Seth hit a Pedigree but Riddle wasn't in the ring, so Riddle hit an RKO and Rollins rolled back into the ring, leading to a big Floating Bro which hit Seth pretty hard. Riddle got a triangle and even though Rollins tried to slam Riddle to release he buckled and tapped.
After that Bray Wyatt returned as the White Rabbit, to a big pop but nobody's surprise. People dressed as the funhouse characters in the crowd as well as the Fiend, the old Funhouse set with cobwebbed and dead characters was shown before Bray came through the door on the stage in a new mask to close out the show.
The fight pit was a good main event, Cormier needn't have been there though and it was undoubtedly overshadowed by Bray's obvious return. I am worried that we returned Bray with little purpose but it can easily be fixed. Overall it was a good show, true it was predictable but that's not always a bad thing, I think we could've gotten better out of everyone with better booking, since no match blew me away, especially for Liv and Drew. But everyone performed well and you'd at least get your money's worth.

Liv stans need to understand pinning Becky will be much sweeter than winning a battle royal. Becks just an transitional champ who won’t be affected by a loss unlike some of the other women aka Liv when she lost her SD championship

HARTFORD WOLF PACK REPORTER'S NOTEBOOK
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - For the Hartford Wolf Pack and their parent organization, the New York Rangers, the lazy, hazy summer days are winding down. The teams are two weeks away from training camp opening in Tarrytown, NY and then the Wolf Pack training camp at the XL Center starts a couple of weeks later.  There are still moves being made in the hockey world. The Rangers have hired Angela Ruggiero (Choate Rosemary Hall-Wallingford) to join Peter Laviolette’s coaching staff as a Hockey Operations Adviser. No clear reporting on what her responsibilities will be. Rangers President Chris Drury (Trumbull) and she were both selected and entered the US Hockey Hall of Fame together with the Class of 2015. Ruggerio played for several US Women's Olympic teams and won a gold, two silvers, and a bronze medal. She earned four gold medals and six silvers in international World Championship action. In 1999, the Harvard grad with an MBA degree won a national title with the Crimson, and the defenseman won the Patty Kazmier Award as the top college female hockey athlete in 2004. She played for two women’s professional leagues in her active playing days. She was part of the CWHL (Canadian Women’s Hockey League) and the WWHL (Western Women’s Hockey League) during her 11-year career. Ruggerio retired in 2011. She has been involved in the business side of hockey since then. Hiring Ruggerio is part of the overall revamping of the Rangers coaching staff. HARTFORD CONNECTED ATHLETES MAKING MOVES Casey Torres, an ex-Pack assistant coach for one year and who was out of hockey last year, is back in. was named the assistant coach for the Windsor Spitfires (OHL). After a year off from hockey, ex-Pack Peter Holland signs with the Colorado Avalanche organization and will likely be skating with the Colorado Eagles next season. Holland last played in Sweden two years ago. Holland was traded from the Wolf Pack in 2018-19, a week after then-captain Cole Schneider. The belief is that Schneider was dealt because of the manner in which he tried to motivate then rookie, and now an unsigned ex-Pack, Libor Hájek. Apparently, Schneider's actions angered former Wolf Pack head coach Keith McCambridge, who is now an assistant coach with the Bakersfield Condors. Ex-Pack Jake Elmer dissolves his contract with Odense in Denmark and signs with the Dundee Stars (Scotland-EIHL) for next season. Jeff Heil was a backup goaltender for 11 games during the Wolf Pack's first season. His son Caleb, also a goalie, is involved in the game. He played for the Sioux City (SD) U-16 AAA (T1EHL) team and nine games for the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL) last season and has verbally committed to play in two years at the University of North Dakota (NCHC). Jabez Seymour, a Newfoundland native from the Selects Academy program at South Kent Prep-SKP U-15 team last year, signed with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, who drafted him in the first-round 18th overall in the June QMJHL Draft. After six years as a head coach for Kootenay/Winnipeg Ice (WHL), ex-Whaler/Ranger James Patrick signed to be the new Director of Player Development for the Victoria Royals (WHL). The team in Winnipeg was sold to a group of the Wenatchee (WA) Wild, who moved up from the Junior A level BCHL to the major junior WHL. One of the players to start the year there will be Easton Armstrong, who is the youngest son of ex-Pack legend Derek Armstrong. He'll play his overage year to start with Wild. After four years as the Northern Ontario Scout for Kingston Frontenacs (OHL), ex-Sound Tiger Brent Gauvreau returns to his hometown as an assistant coach with the Sudbury Wolves (OHL). AHL signings to Europe now stand at 76. The latest, Alex Galchenyuk, leaves the Colorado Eagles (AHL) for SKA St. Petersburg (Russia-KHL). Sweden leads in the signees department with 30. Maxim Barbashev, who was in the Wolf Pack house late last season when his junior season ended but never played a game, was involved in a pre-season QMJHL trade as he was moved from the Moncton Wildcats and will play his third season with the Shawinigan Cataractes. Ex-Pack Josh Nicholls leaves Kunlun Red Star (China-KHL) for a second time and signs with the Sheffield Steelers (England-EIHL). SIGNINGS/TRANSFERS The college to pro signings North America/Europe, and the transfer in-school and graduate continues. North America first, Hockey East leads all conferences with 38, and the NCHC conference has 37. The Big Ten and the CCHA each have 34, the ECACHL 25, and the AHA 21. Division III is at 32, and attending Canadian colleges four and undergrads departing early is 39. Independent Division I schools now have 14, signed in Europe is 62, and returning to American junior hockey is two. Surprisingly, none have yet to come from Canadian major juniors. The total number stands at 301. The transfers collegiately have exploded in-school is 102 and graduate 68. UCONN UCONN finally announced its official incoming class for the college hockey season. Ethan Haider is a post-grad goaltender from Clarkson. He is expected to split time with the returning Arsenii Sergeev (Calgary). Another grad transfer will be Ryan Mashie of RPI (ECACHL). Incoming freshmen will feature Oliver Flynn (Wolcott/CT Chiefs (AYHL)/Loomis Chafee Prep-Windsor). Forward Joey Muldowney, D Owen Simpson, and Bauer Swift (West Hartford/Choate Rosemary Hall-Wallingford). Swift has an older brother (Cooper) and younger brother (Easton) involved in hockey and are both named after a hockey equipment brand. Rayen Petrovický, the son of former Hartford Whaler and Ranger Róbert Petrovický, elects to sign with VHK Vestin (Czechia (Czech Republic-Division-II) for 2023-24. It took just two days for ex-Yale Bulldog Ken Agostino’s one-year deal with Skellefteå AIK (Sweden-SHL) to be terminated. The team said it received backlash for signing someone who played in Russia for the last two years with the ongoing war in Ukraine. He played on the 2022 US Olympic squad at the Beijing Games. Howlings previously reported on the strange anomaly of current and ex-North American players signing deals with KHL clubs despite the war and public declaration that the NHL wanted nothing to do with Russia, where no transfer agreement exists. A long line of players behind Agostino have all done the same thing. Per Elite Prospects.com, as of last week, 53 North Americans are in the KHL, 39 Canadians, 15 Americans, and 22 players from EU nations are listed in the KHL. Russian and European training camps are about to end as their regular season starts next month. Will other EU clubs announce their rescinding any dealings with any of these players or others? Wolcott native Nick DiNicola, who played youth hockey for the CT Jr. Wolves (AYHL), CT Clippers (AYHL), Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack (ATJHL), CT (Stamford) Yankees (USPHL-Premier) then under the direction of ex-Wolf Pack/Sound Tiger Jeff Hamilton (Yale University & AOF) and had five games with the Danbury Hat Tricks (FPHL) leaves Como (Italy Division-2) for Chiavenna (Italy Division-3) for next season. By the way, Hamilton has owned the CT Jr. Rangers (NCDC) for the last two years and is out as owner. He was involved with the Mid-Fairfield Rangers U-14 team as head coach last year. Five ex-Whalers were at the golf club at Avon Country Club last weekend for a charity event. They included Ron Francis, Ulf Samuelsson, Mike  Liut, Dave Tippett, and Joel Quenneville. The tournament was named, honoring Quinneville's late nephew Connor Scott Zieky. None of them made it to the Yard Goats Whaler Day last month. The Yard Goats official assistant GM, Dean Zappolorti, said Francis informed him he would come next year and help him recruit other players to attend. If that happens and Pat Boutette gets Mike Rogers and Blaine Stoughton to return, it will be a home run (pun intended) next year. Ex-Pack Domenic Moore is playing in the Over-40 Senior Canadian Tennis Championships. During the hockey season, he works as an Analyst for ESPN. An NHL source regarding the Phoenix situation. “It’s a mess. We hear that they're looking to secure land now, but they have to get something soon. It’s become an embarrassment…a sore point for the league, a  black eye. The player’s association is unhappy, they’re losing money and owners are getting tired of spending money to keep them going. Sooner or later, something has to give, soon, it just can’t keep going on like this. When a kid like (Logan) Cooley, a next generation likely NHL star, signs reluctantly, leaving a larger arena he had in college (Minnesota) for a smaller one in Arizona, that they’re not even selling out, things have to get done in short order. They’re gonna have to move them most likely if they don’t nail things down soon.” HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

If this is true and Rhea ends up winning the RR and defeats the Evil to win SD women’s championship, then she would be the only woman in the company to have won the NXT UK Womens Championship (she was also the inaugural NXT UK champion), the NXT Women’s Championship, the Raw Women’s Championship, the Royal Rumble and the Smackdown Women’s Championship. And she’s still only 26 years old.
Okay, I see that and I love that for her! But it also makes me think that Bayley vs Becky it’s happening as well!

12/2/23 Fact or Fiction
Statement #1: The audience will turn on Cody Rhodes before Wrestlemania. FICTION - I certainly don't see the WWE fans turning on Cody before WrestleMania, as realistically the only way he'd get people turning on him en masse between now and WM is if he acted particularly obnoxiously in the real world in much the same way Seth Rollins torpedoed his babyface run - however, it would not surprise me if murmurings of discontent did start to become noticeable sometime between SummerSlam and Survivor Series assuming he was still champion at that point, but they'd be guaranteed if he dropped the belt back to Reigns by MITB
Statement #2: Sami Zayn did the right thing by hitting Roman Reigns with that chair at Royal Rumble. FACT - If he didn't that seemingly endless beatdown of Kevin Owens might still be going on
Statement #3: You would love to see another Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match. FICTION - First of all, I genuinely hate it when the name of a match stipulation has a sponsor's name plastered all over it (with the possible exception of the Dominos Presents Nick Gage Carving Chris Jericho's Head Open With A Pizza Cutter Deathmatch), but in terms of the You're Off The Artistic Rollcall Pitch Black match the stip was borderline LOLTNA and I'm not sure there's too many people who could save it
Statement #4: Royal Rumble wins for wrestlers like Rhea Ripley and Cody Rhodes are wasted because they are obvious title contenders who could easily get a championship match at any time. FICTION - While there certainly have been wasted Rumble wins in the past given the winners would get title shots whenever they were available, most obviously Charlotte winning it in 2020 and Lesnar in 2022, this year's winners weren't a waste in particular Rhea's considering she's challenging for the SD Women's title which she wouldn't be awarded at any time given she's on the Raw roster, while Cody's works given he was coming back from injury so he gets a momentum boost off the back of it
Statement #5: You agree with Taz about the use of the term “banger” to describe wrestling matches. FICTION - While the word is certainly overused to the point that it starts to lose its meaning when you sometimes see it used two or three times per episode of Raw, Dynamite or SmackDown (okay, maybe not SmackDown...) it's hardly the most obnoxious term used by wrestling site. A better contender for that title would be "Column by Justin Watry"
Statement #6: Every Royal Rumble match needs someone who starts at the beginning to still be there in the end. FICTION - The fact that both of the 2023 Rumbles made the first entrant in the final two underlines the issue with having somebody going the distance every year: if you have somebody going the distance every year it stops being an impressive feat and becomes a trope, and the fact that we've had three entrants do this in the last three shows (Ripley and Gunther in 2023, Edge in 2021) in particular undermines the whole idea if it happens so often in a short space of time, especially when both the 2021 and 2023 shows used a lot of the same booking tropes in both Rumbles which basically meant you only needed to watch the one
