I saw this on Twitter and it really struck me. I hadn’t thought of this parallel before. Both POV Sam and our universe Sam have lost their husbands, and both end up in another universe where they’re face to face with ‘another’ version of their husbands, who isn’t married to them/ doesn’t even know them.
(I was trying to find the screenshot from Continuum where they’re on the submarine and Sam is looking at AU Jack hopefully (like she’s just realised that she hasn’t lost him after all, until he says he doesn’t know her), but couldn’t find it anywhere).

We watched Point of View yesterday and I just. keep thinking about the moment when they raised the zat gun to shoot Daniel a second time and the way they devoted an entire cutaway shot to just the sheer panic in Jack's eyes

The Adverse Affects of Pre-Release Materials
I usually post big rambling posts about bionicles, but today I'm going to do a big rambling post about one of my favourite movies, Steamboy.
And like...themes and stuff.
Tumblr media
Have you heard of themes? Things can have them, they're pretty cool.
I know no one will read this but this is for me okay.
In 2005 I was watching the Space channel, now rebranded CTV Scifi, and they had an awards show called the Spaceys where they ranked and awarded media from that year. I recall when Stargate SG1 won one they had a clip of the Thor puppet being controlled by Richard Dean Anderson thanking everyone who supported the show, and that their voices sounded like "tiny farts". I wonder if that's available anywhere or if its lost media now lol.
In any case, they had an animation category and they mentioned several films that released that year, the winner was Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, but one of the nominees was a film called Steamboy, it was just named and they had a tiny clip from the trailer. It was literally just this part:
Really stuck in my mind and I went and looked it up and found the English website, which has been partially archived:
Tumblr media
Unfortunately not documented is the previews and clips page, which had several short videos from the movie, notably, I recall, with incorrect character names. It called the main two characters Jay and Miss, instead of Ray and Scarlet lol.
One of the scenes on this page was from around half way through the movie, when the fighting breaks out in the Great Exhibition grounds, and Scarlet decided to stroll across the battle field to talk to the queen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I love all the shots where you can actually see the artillery shells flying through the air)
These men in armour come out and engage the British Tanks and one gets thrown by an explosion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She goes to look at him and sees that he's dead, but she's surprised there was a man in there.
Tumblr media
This being my first introduction to the "Steam Troopers" as the dub calls them, would prove a bit problematic for me and my understanding of the film for years to come.
This was 2005, it was harder to find things like this, by some luck after weeks of searching I did find the movie on DVD in a store and could finally watch it.
So now I could see the introduction of the Steam Trooper, which is quite ominous. The London Constabulary comes to break in to the O'Hara Manufacturing Company's pavilion in the exhibition grounds but the doors open and you see one standing there, menacingly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And as a kid I thought "imagine being the guy told to just stand there all dramatic as the police storm in", thinking it was kinda funny really.
But something always bugged me about the Steam Troopers. They didn't really make sense, mechanically.
Steamboy is a steampunk movie, featuring all sorts of incredible machines with copious amounts of gears and belts and rivets and pistons and they all look very cool, but also there is a lot of thought put un to their designs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact the British steam powered tank is actually based on a real world vehicle, the Hornsby Tractor.
Tumblr media
Just stick a little gun turret on the front and you've got it lol.
You can see their power source, how they're propelled, their mechanisms make sense, they're crazy complicated and not really feasible or practical, but they're fun and make sense In the world established in the film.
But Steam Troopers don't!
Now from my point of view, from seeing the preview and seeing it was a guy in a suit, I just looked at it as a suit, so therefore, in my mind, the linkages and wheels and tiny boiler on the back must all be some sort of Victorian power armour, enhancing the wearer's strength in some way.
Tumblr media
But it just doesn't make sense, nothing's connected to anything properly for that.
Tumblr media
When you see the dead guy some of the wheels are still spinning and all they're doing is making some of the linkages, which aren't positioned to do anything, move around.
It really bothered me for years, everything else in the movie makes sense to me, but not them.
Then a year or two ago I did a little experiment. I watched this movie, which I've seen dozens of times at this point, but really tried to empty my mind of all my prior thoughts and knowledge. Just come at it fresh. And it was really fun! I highly recommend it. You'll never be able to really experience a movie for the first time again, but looking at it through this lens can make you notice things you may have missed.
Watching Steamboy in this way, when I got to the Steam Trooper scenes, it finally clicked. They don't make sense, because they're not supposed to make sense. They're fake. Its all fake.
They're supposed to be automatons.
The scene where Scarlet sees the dead man is supposed to be a big reveal that no, these are just men in suits.
Tumblr media
This whole battle is a weapons demonstration orchestrated by Simon, the person in charge of this branch of the O'Hara Manufacturing Company. There are representatives from all over the world here and he spends the entire latter have of the movie trying to sell them stuff even when things start to go horribly wrong.
Tumblr media
The whole ominous scene with the Steam Trooper standing there menacingly was for their benefit.
Tumblr media
The O'Hara Manufacturing Company has so many amazing machines, they've got submersibles, blimps, actually functional airplanes, all in the 1860s, but its not enough.
They're so driven by greed they're not content to simply sell the amazing machines they have, they have to try and scam even more out of everyone.
It leads to them strapping some tiny engines that just wiggle around a bit and shoot out steam on the backs of some guys in full armour and have them march in to battle pretending to be clockwork soldiers.
This realisation also gave new context to this scene, which is one of the more humorous scenes in the film.
youtube
*bonk*
Tumblr media
You can actually see these suits much earlier in the film, off in the background in a maintenance area. The Steam Castle, the true form of the O'Hara Pavilion, is massive and much of it was constructed in secret, under water, so they'd require many things like the submarine seen in the same scene and these diving suits with manipulator arms. But in their greed they're trying to sell these clumsy maintenance suits as amphibious battle suits, yet in reality they can't even climb stairs.
The O'Hara pavilion itself is a very clear example of this, its trying to look like a fancy stone building but really its all painted metal, and the shell breaks off to reveal the dark and dirty weapon of war it really is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Steam Castle started out as an idea of a mobile funfair and greed perverted it in to become this. This part was plainly laid out in the movie, but its fun to see how the theme was repeated in different ways throughout the movie.
So in conclusion, one of the major thematic elements of the movie was hidden to me for years because of the pre-release media that gave a away a twist before the set up, ruining the impact of it.
Its a tricky thing, seeing those preview materials were what made me excited to watch the movie, yet seeing them directly harmed my understanding of the movie for years to come. I've always loved the movie, its gorgeous, has an amazing sound track and sound design, it taps directly in to the gear obsessed part of my brain, and there's other themes and messages in the movie that even as a kid I noticed, but now I feel I have a much more clear understanding of the movie that I lacked before.
I've had my enjoyment of a few other things be tempered by overdoing it with pre-release materials, so in general once I've decided something is interesting to me I basically block out everything until I've finished it. I don't even read the blurb on the back of books anymore lol.
I highly recommend trying to go at something fresh, with an open mind, even if you can quote the movie from memory and every frame is etched in to your brain, you can learn something!
Some other quick notes:
Compressed gasses being released making things cold is an actual thing, if you've ever sprayed a can of compressed air for a bit too long and felt the can get colder, that's what's going on.
The two main henchmen in the movie are named Freddy and Jason, get it?
Canada is represented in the movie even though that flag didn't exist yet! :)
Tumblr media
The PS2 game has an ending where you fight a pair of giant Punch and Judy robots.
youtube
The trailer and DVD menu for Steamboy is a song called Full Force, which is a cool song. The first half at least. I edited it a few years ago to remove the end bit which gets weird, and then found that several people also did that, independently. So that's neat.
youtube
I like my edit more, but its secret. Its mine.
I can't promise this won't happen again.

Through the Mirror - Chapter One
Stargate SG1 - Daniel Jackson/OC FanFic Romance w/ a Jack O'Neill/OC Found Family plot.
I've had this idea rattling around in my head since I started rewatching. So thought I would get the first chapter out here and see what people thought of the idea. I figure it will be a longer fic, as I want a bit of a slow burn.
Plot: What if in Season 3 Episode 6: Point of View, a third person came through the mirror. Amelia Brown, Step Daughter of Doctor Carter and real Daughter of Jack O'Neill. However after watching the events of her father being killed as he helped them to escape, Amelia struggles with the reality of going back to the place where both her biological parents are dead, and instead intends to accept the offer of staying in an alternate reality to her own.
Rating: Teen/Mature ish.... I don't have much written yet so I'm undecided if it will get spicy at any point, but I have to imagine that the fan base for this franchise is probably past the age of 18 by now haha.
Tumblr media
Chapter One
Amelia sat stiffly on the hard medical bed, her legs dangling over it’s edge, the sterile chill of the infirmary gnawing at her nerves. Across the room, Sam paced relentlessly, her long blonde hair swaying like a pendulum with each step. The sharp tap of her boots against the tile floor only added to the tension thickening the air.
“Sam, please,” Amelia said, her voice strained with both exhaustion and worry. “Just sit down.”
“Yeah, you’re making even me nervous,” Kawalsky muttered, shooting a weary look at Sam as he shifted on the bed opposite Amelia. His tone was casual, but his jaw tightened in a way that belied his unease.
Before anyone could respond, the infirmary doors swung open. A group of Airmen filed in with the precision Amelia was coming to expect of this military world, followed closely by two figures who commanded the room immediately. She recognized them instantly: Jack O’Neill and George Hammond. Her stomach twisted in an unfamiliar mix of relief and apprehension.
“So, what’s the big emergen—whoa!” Jack’s casual stride faltered as his gaze landed on Sam. He froze, his brow furrowing. “What happened to you?”
“Jack?” Sam’s voice was soft, fragile even, as she stopped pacing. The change in her demeanor was startling. Amelia watched her stepmother’s face, a mixture of disbelief and hope softening her usually sharp features. The way Sam looked at this Jack was so... lovingly. It made Amelia’s chest ache.
“It’s me. It’s Sam,” she said, her tone trembling as though the words might shatter.
Jack’s eyes narrowed. “Uh... yeah.”
Sam stepped closer, her hands trembling slightly. “I never expected this variation. You’re alive.”
The words hung in the air, heavy and raw. Amelia shifted uncomfortably, her gaze flicking to Kawalsky. He was already moving, easing himself off the medical bed with a crooked smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Don’t feel so bad, Colonel. Everybody around here is telling me the same thing,” Kawalsky said with a short laugh, his voice deliberately light.
“Kawalsky?” Jack asked, his tone incredulous as he studied the man before him.
A voice interjected, calm and clinical, “in a manner of speaking, sir. Actually, in a manner of fact, this is Major Kawalsky in almost every physical respect—blood, dental records—” Spoke Doctor Fraiser.
“But I’m not supposed to be alive in this reality any more than you are in mine,” Kawalsky interrupted, glancing between Sam, Amelia, and Jack. “Sorry, ladies.”
Amelia glanced at Sam. There was a deep sadness in her stepmother’s expression, a mourning for something unspoken. Sam nodded slowly. “It’s not the same with us here, is it?”
The question was rhetorical, Amelia realized, but the pain in Sam’s voice gnawed at her. The weight of what they’d lost—what they’d left behind—settled over them all like a heavy shroud.
Jack’s exasperation broke the tension. “Does... anyone wanna let me know what the hell’s goin’ on here? Anyone? How about you, whoever you are?” He gestured toward Amelia.
“Whoever she is?” The words stung more than Amelia wanted to admit. Her chest tightened, and her voice wavered as she whispered, “Do I not exist here?”
Hearing the tremor in Amelia’s voice, Sam moved protectively closer, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. “She’s your daughter, Jack,” Sam said firmly. “Or at least, the daughter of the alternate version of you. Do you not have a kid in this reality?”
Jack’s gaze lingered on Amelia, his scrutiny making her shift uncomfortably. Did he see it? The same similarities her father used to point out so fondly? He was constantly struck by how her features resembled his, especially her eyes, nose, and stubborn chin. The thought made her heart ache.
“I had a son...” Jack’s voice was soft, barely audible.
Amelia lowered her gaze, unwilling to meet his eyes. The rawness in his tone made her throat tighten.
General Hammond cleared his throat, the sound cutting through the emotion in the room like a scalpel. “They appeared a few hours ago in a Nellis high-security lockup,” he explained crisply.
Kawalsky chuckled, stepping toward Jack. “That quantum mirror you got locked up at Area Fifty-One? You guys never figured out how to use it?”
Amelia shivered, the memory of the mirror sending a chill down her spine. Sam’s arm tightened around her, grounding her.
“Is he talking about that alternate-reality thing Daniel futzed with on P3R-233?” Jack asked, his eyes narrowing as they flicked back to Amelia.
“Who’s Daniel?” Sam asked softly, stroking Amelia’s long brown hair in a way that was unexpectedly soothing. The small gesture made Amelia want to bury herself in her stepmother’s embrace.
“Let’s hold off on any more questions for the moment,” Hammond interrupted. His tone brooked no argument. “I’ve sent the order to have the device brought here under heavy guard. Our guests will be escorted to quarters until we can verify their story. We’ll come and speak with you after the briefing.”
Amelia barely registered the words. Her thoughts were a chaotic swirl of grief, confusion, and fear. She let herself be led out of the infirmary along with Sam and Kawalsky, though her steps felt disconnected from her body.
When they arrived at the guest quarters, the Airmen moved to separate them. Kawalsky and Sam immediately stepped in front of Amelia like twin shields.
“Guys, it’s fine. I’ll be okay,” Amelia said, forcing a smile to her lips. It wavered under their scrutiny, but she held it. “I’m not a child. I’ve lived on my own for almost ten years now. I think I can handle being alone in a guest room here.”
“Are you sure, Al?” Kawalsky’s tone was stern, a reflection of the father figure he’d been in her life for as long as she could remember.
“I’ll be fine,” she lied.
The door closed behind her with a soft thunk, and the silence of the room was deafening. Amelia sat down heavily on the bed, curling into herself as the weight of everything she’d lost finally crashed over her. She tried to keep it together, but silent tears slipped down her cheeks as she stared blankly at a chipped edge on the bedside table.
She didn’t hear the door open or the soft footsteps that followed. It wasn’t until someone cleared their throat that she realized she wasn’t alone. Startled, her head snapped up to find a man standing just inside the doorway.
“Hi,” he said gently. “I’m Daniel Jackson. I’m part of this reality’s SG-1 team.”
“I don’t know who you are,” Amelia said cautiously, her voice hoarse as she pushed herself up from where she had been lying. She studied the man standing before her, taking in his disheveled brown hair, round glasses, and the faint crease of exhaustion lining his face. He seemed out of place in his rumpled blue Air Force uniform, like someone trying to fit into a role that didn’t quite suit them.
“Yes, I’ve heard that I never joined the Stargate Program in your reality,” the man said, his tone hesitant. He scratched the back of his neck, a nervous habit, Amelia assumed. “Here, I, uh, did much of what Captain Carter—well, Doctor Carter—does. It’s weird that she’s a Doctor in your world. See here I was the one that figured out the gate address, and I went through to Abydos…” He trailed off, then shifted his weight awkwardly. “So, um, your Sam said you’re Jack’s daughter?”
Amelia blinked at him, momentarily thrown off by his rambling explanation. She reached up and wiped at her damp, puffy eyes with the sleeves of her sweater—a once-beloved piece of clothing that had been reduced to a grimy, threadbare shell during her escape. “I am,” she murmured, her voice barely audible.
Daniel took a tentative step toward her, and before Amelia realized it, she had instinctively scooted further back on the bed. The movement caused him to stop abruptly, concern flickering across his face. He raised his hands in a gesture of reassurance and took a deliberate step back, slipping them into his pockets. “I won’t harm you,” he said softly, his tone measured. “I’m just... curious about you. You seem, uh, quite a bit older than Jack’s son would’ve been.”
Amelia stiffened at the mention of Jack’s son. Her pulse quickened. “That’s the second time Jack’s son has been referred to in the past tense,” she said, her voice edged with unease. She watched as Daniel’s expression shifted, his gaze darting momentarily to the corner of the room—toward what she now realized was a security camera.
“It’s not my story to tell,” he said carefully, his words deliberate. He hesitated, clearly weighing what to reveal before he added, “But Charlie passed away when he was eight. He’d only be around twelve now, and, well...” His voice faltered, and his eyes flickered over her as though gauging her reaction. “...you appear to be, uh...”
“Much older than twelve?” Amelia offered with a forced, weak smile, trying to lighten the air that had grown stifling with unspoken grief. “I’m about to turn twenty-five.”
Daniel blinked, visibly doing the math in his head. His lips parted in a muted expression of surprise. “That would mean... Jack would’ve had to have you when he was—what? Sixteen?”
“Yup,” Amelia said flatly, her tone both bitter and resigned. “Teenage pregnancy is a real life-changer.”
“But he still enlisted,” Daniel said, the awe in his voice betraying his admiration. “And he still ran your version of SG-1... but you don’t have a brother?”
Amelia shook her head.
“Did Jack still marry Sara?”
“Who’s Sara?” Amelia asked, tilting her head.
Daniel’s brow furrowed, and his nose twitched like he was trying to suppress an itch. “Obviously not your mother,” he muttered.
Amelia sighed, the weight of the conversation pressing down on her. “Please, sit down,” she said, gesturing to the edge of the bed. “Your nervous pacing is making me even more nervous.”
Daniel froze, much like a child caught sneaking cookies, then hesitated before carefully lowering himself onto the far edge of the bed. He turned to face her, his posture stiff, but the tension in his shoulders slowly eased.
“My mother was Amy Brown,” Amelia began, her voice soft but steady. “She and my dad were dating when she got pregnant with me. Dad enlisted as soon as he could to help provide for us. My mom married my stepdad when I was three, but Dad was always there when he could be—sending postcards, letters, and little gifts from wherever he was stationed. Eventually, I enrolled in a military school and I got to travel a lot with him around the world, but before graduation, I was accepted to Stanford’s archaeology program. So... I never enlisted.”
Daniel’s face lit up with sudden enthusiasm, his eyes widening behind his glasses. “You’re an archaeologist?” he asked eagerly, his earlier nervousness melting away.
Amelia nodded, her gaze distant for a moment, as if the weight of her words pulled her under. “I just finished my Master’s and was about to join the SGA, much against my father’s wishes.” The corners of her lips curled slightly as she recalled the memory. “I remember telling him I’d been accepted into the Stargate Alliance program as a civilian researcher. He was so furious, he spent the next two hours lecturing me on how dangerous gate travel is.”
Amelia let out a quiet laugh, the sound hollow but familiar. “Do you know, he actually tried to explain the physics behind the wormhole to me? My dad, who barely passed physics in high school, thought he could ‘science’ me out of joining.”
Daniel chuckled softly, the humor failing to fully mask the underlying sadness in his voice. “Who would have thought, Jack’s daughter, becoming an archaeologist?”
Amelia’s smile faded, replaced by a bitter acceptance. “And now it’s all over.” Her words came out barely above a whisper, carrying the weight of finality. “Now my father is dead. The Goa’uld have taken over my home. And here I am.” The reality hit her like a wave, and before she realized it, her tears were spilling over. She instinctively brought her hands to her face, wiping them away in a futile attempt to stop the flood. “Sorry...” she murmured, her voice breaking.
Daniel’s expression softened, his gaze understanding but not pitying. “Don’t apologize,” he said soothingly, his voice a comfort amidst her heartache. “I know it doesn’t mean much, but I know what it is like to watch a parent die... I want to help in any way I can. We want to help.”
Amelia lifted her tear-streaked face to meet his eyes. Daniel watched her with a quiet, empathetic intensity, his lips pressed into a firm line. “So, if you want, you can cry, or scream, or hell, destroy the room if you need to,” he said with a half-hearted chuckle. “I’ll say I saw nothing.”
A sob broke free from Amelia, but it was cloaked in a laugh, as if her body couldn’t quite decide how to release the tension that had built up. She shook her head, trying to regain some composure. “Are... are we going to be allowed to stay here?” The question came out barely above a whisper, the uncertainty hanging between them like a shadow. She was afraid to ask, too afraid to hear the answer.
Daniel paused, his expression softening. “We can’t very well send you back to die,” he said, his voice firm yet gentle. “But I don’t know the details yet. Your Samantha and Kawalsky are being interviewed now. So how did you end up here, through the mirror? I figured if your Jack is anything like mine, he would’ve sent you off-world the minute there was trouble.”
Amelia’s throat tightened, but she forced herself to answer. “I was supposed to go to the Alpha site, but I had... issues getting to the base. By the time I arrived, the gate on Alpha site’s end would have already been buried. Dad died trying to get us to the mirror. Do you know,” she paused, her eyes clouding with a mixture of regret and disbelief, “I’ve never actually seen the Stargate. I finally had clearance to physicaly enter the lower levels, to enter the Stargate... and now—”
“Do you want to see it?” Daniel interrupted, his voice unexpectedly urgent. He stood up abruptly from the bed, his eyes alight with an unexpected spark of enthusiasm.
Amelia blinked, caught off guard by his sudden shift in energy. She tilted her head, confusion furrowing her brow. “Do you want to see the gate?” he repeated, his excitement palpable.
“Is that... allowed?” she asked, her voice laced with skepticism but also a flicker of hope.
Daniel shrugged nonchalantly, a mischievous grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Probably not,” he said with a wink, “but let’s try it anyway.” He extended a hand toward her, an unspoken offer of escape from the tension of the room, a chance to see something—anything—beyond the bleakness she’d been trapped in.
Amelia hesitated for only a moment before reaching out to take his hand, the warmth of his gesture a small comfort in the midst of the storm she found herself in.
It took Amelia a moment, but she finally reached out, slipping her hand into Daniel’s. His grip was steady, warm, and unexpectedly reassuring as he helped her off the bed. The thought that struck her immediately wasn’t about the situation they were in, but the warmth of his hand, the grounding comfort in it. He didn’t let go, even as he guided her to the door with a determined pace.
When they stepped out into the hallway, the two armed guards stationed at her door immediately snapped to attention, stepping forward to block their path.
Daniel released her hand reluctantly and placed a firm, calming hand on her shoulder. “Amelia’s not feeling the greatest,” he said smoothly, his tone laced with concern. “I’m taking her to see Dr. Fraiser—”
The taller of the guards stiffened. “We were ordered not to let her leave the room.”
“It’s fine, officer,” Daniel replied, his voice measured but insistent. “I’ve got her. You can stand down.”
The guard shook his head, unmoved. “We were given a direct order.”
“It’s okay, officer. I’ll take them,” came a familiar voice from behind the guards. Jack O’Neill stepped into view, his expression unreadable but his tone authoritative.
The guards exchanged a look before reluctantly stepping aside. Jack’s gaze flickered between Daniel and Amelia, his suspicion evident. He didn’t say a word, but his expression did the talking: What are you up to now?
Daniel placed a gentle hand on the small of Amelia’s back, guiding her forward. She kept her eyes down as they approached Jack, who fell into step ahead of them, leading the way to the elevator. Inside, as the doors closed, Jack hovered his hand over the buttons, his sharp eyes cutting to Daniel.
“So,” Jack asked, his tone dry but laced with curiosity, “where are we really going?”
Daniel hesitated, his hand rubbing the back of his neck. “Uh... the Gate Room,” he admitted sheepishly.
Jack quirked a brow, his lips twitching with restrained amusement. “To the Gate Room, then.” He turned, hitting the button for Level 28. His gaze lingered on Amelia for a moment longer than necessary, studying her as though trying to piece together a puzzle.
The elevator ride was brief but steeped in an awkward silence. Amelia tried not to fidget, aware of Jack’s subtle scrutiny and Daniel’s quiet nervousness. When the doors slid open, Jack took the lead again, guiding them through the stark, sterile halls. Finally, they stopped at a set of heavy metal doors flanked by armed guards.
“Men, you can stand down,” Jack ordered, his tone casual but firm. “We’re just giving our guest here a tour.”
The guards exchanged wary glances before stepping aside. Jack swiped his keycard through the scanner, and the doors groaned open. Amelia followed Jack into the room, her steps faltering as she crossed the threshold and finally saw it. Her breath caught in her throat.
The Stargate.
The massive ring loomed before her, its metallic surface glinting under the overhead lights. She stopped abruptly, staring up the ramp at the thing she’d only seen in photos and fleeting video clips.
“It’s amazing...” she whispered, the words spilling out before she could stop them. Her gaze remained fixed on the Gate, her awe palpable. “Can I—?”
“Go ahead,” Jack said with a sweeping motion of his arm, a rare smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Without hesitation, Amelia rushed up the ramp, her steps quick but reverent. She reached the base of the ring and paused, raising a hand toward it. The warmth of its power seemed to radiate in the air around her, but she hesitated, turning back to look at Jack and Daniel. Both men were watching her intently, their expressions a mix of curiosity and amusement.
“Can I touch it?” she asked, her voice almost childlike in its wonder.
Daniel chuckled softly.
Jack smirked. “Go ahead. It’s not gonna explode—probably.”
Tentatively, Amelia reached out, her fingertips brushing against the smooth, etched surface of the Gate. Her eyes widened in surprise. “It’s warm,” she murmured, her voice filled with quiet amazement.
Daniel nodded, stepping closer. “It’s from the power required to keep it operational. We’re constantly running—”
“The iris, so you can close it immediately when an incoming wormhole connects,” Amelia finished, cutting him off.
Daniel blinked, impressed. “Yeah...”
Jack raised a brow, rocking back on his heels. “Doctor Carter mentioned you were joining your version of the SGC?”
Amelia traced the edges of a glyph with her fingertips, her back still to them as she spoke. “I was supposed to, yeah. I’m an archaeologist, though, so—civilian, not Air Force.”
“Ah,” Jack said, his tone mildly skeptical. “No Air Force, huh? And your dad was fine with that?”
“Yeah actually,” she admitted, a small, bittersweet smile on her lips. “He never wanted me in the military. But dragging me from base to base my whole childhood, he accidentally gave me a love for culture and history. When I got accepted into Stanford’s archaeology program, he was thrilled.”
“But you were going to join your version of the SGC?”
Amelia nodded, finally turning back to face them. “Yeah, dad wasn’t happy about it, though. I only ever had clearance on the need to know of what Dad and Sam did—until recently, that is. I had just began-”
Her words were cut off by the sharp, no-nonsense voice of General Hammond coming through the intercom. “Colonel O’Neill, Doctor Jackson, what are doing in there?”
Jack froze, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Busted,” he muttered, his lips twitching with reluctant amusement.

Oh, these are adorable 🥰 But also made me think of these lyrics 💔

Vi Aliens – let`s speak about aliens!
Tumblr media
This is space shooter about aliens with top-down view. You, simply, fly, rather, fast. And shoot with laser. So, for this time, it is about more fast dynamics. And everything is so white here about visual.  And it is, simply, one more space shooter. Again, about aliens. Most, sci fi theme, as I can to say. Aliens. Space ships. They are Vi. And nothing more to know about them. So, a mystery. And something unknown.
Tumblr media
So in game it will be such a white color interface. With letter Vi in main menu. So, in main part – it is here a program code from previous game - Free Linear Space. And, that’s why, sometimes it is similar here. So, it is ,also, has a menu - select player space ship.
youtube
New scheme of enemy behavior. And bosses themselves. Now 4 bosses and 1 mega boss. And 10 levels. In level - it will be a space ships. And they are rather fast to move. With different logic schemes. For example, only forward. It is most simple way of move. Or move forward until preset point. And later next you do a move side to the left or right, random selection. And after - again move forward. There is logic - you fly forward. And little move aside - by diagonal. Well, very a little. But, anyway, your fly course is changing. To the left or to the right. But, a little! It is example of a new movement.
Tumblr media
And most big thing here - it is dynamic. Game is dynamic. That’s for sure at this time. Based on science fiction. Well, in some parts – tv series Visitors from 80s. Dynamic raise rather good. New moves of enemies. New and a visual look. So, here it is 35 forms of alien ships.
Tumblr media
So, here it is even such a thing - a big triangle. Something like type pyramid. Everything is rather relatively. Main theme - it is Visitors tv series from 80s and Star Gate Sg1. With flying pyramids. Something alien ships. I have my vision about alien ships, to dream about this theme.
Tumblr media
Theme about aliens – it is standalone theme. Some visitors. So, saying more right - here we have Vi. Simple Vi. V and I. Looks like, they are Vi. Who are they? Small green humanoids? Saying correct, everything here in design is with white color – white little humanoids, it will be more right to say in this case. With so big head. And small height. As in science fiction. Maybe. Head of alien. As it was in some science fiction movie. Sucha vision in head. Picture. And Ufo sausage. Area 51. Most interesting science fiction theme!
Tumblr media
Aliens. With so big eyes. They look at you. And fly with space ships. As a real thing. I do not make it clear who are they – Vi. In game. So, it is not certain, and no need to think one way about aliens. Well, as a real thing, they can be very different kind. It is about a player`s selection. To make your own dreams. And discover this mystery. So, I make it this way. Maybe, it is like Star Gate Sg1, or well, rather humanoids. Almost like humans from Earth, or absolutely same. Well, they are, simply, they came from deep space. As a real thing, anything goes. It is about player`s choice.  Who are they Vi.
Tumblr media
Just remember main idea. They are – Vi. And no more information! I think, that for vertical shooter it is more interesting.
And that’s why I do all visual side of the game to look solid these Vi theme. They are Vi. Everything is so white or dark gray light. Almost, like white. Letter Vi is appearing from time to time. Design of space ships. As pyramids. Rare. Or like triangle – it is often. Or like type letter V Latin. In different forms. So, about a fact about the game – it is more about design of space ships. Such a visual feature to identify. But, it is about this thing too. I like to program with editor Vim. First two letters. Also. So, what a meaning about Vi – it is about a player`s decision. I like editor Vim. And, so, someway, I make a game about this thing. I show my point of interest. Vi. So, this is Vi! What these Vi actually is? So, it is Vim. Something like that.
Tumblr media
And, so, last thing to do - to program levels logic. It is not done yet. And, maybe, some little fixes. And, so, in any other case - game is ready. So, to program how will enemies move there. So, schemes for levels are not ready yet. It will take some time! And after that - it is ok to go to next game!
Tumblr media
Basic Pascal version 1.17 "BLOCK" – most newest version. In this version there are 4 new games! Platform Ball, Cabin Pilot, Free Blocker, Free Bee. And even more retro games! It is a pack of retro games with modern versions of Basic and Pascal.
It is now in development new version Basic Pascal pack games. This game will be included in a new version.

Brief Candle
I watched two episodes of Stargate last weekend, but have struggled to find the time to post about it. The first was season 1, episode 9: Brief Candle. Now updated with a screenshot of shirtless Jack 😀
SG1 travel to the planet Argos, arriving in the temple to Pelops that holds the stargate, and the first thing they do (well, mainly Daniel who has some experience) is help deliver a baby. There’s a celebration, Jack gets given a special cake by a woman called Kynthia, is clearly drugged, sleeps with her, and then all the villagers and Jack fall into a very deep sleep as the day ends. Here is a very dimly lit image of shirtless Jack before he also passes out.
Tumblr media
They’re all fine the next morning except that the baby is now a toddler… Eventually SG1 discover that the Argosians only live short lives due to the nanites in their blood, and Jack has been infected. Pelops was experimenting on the Argosians and shortened their lifespans to see what the human host would evolve into.
Jack stays behind on Argos to avoid infecting anyone else, and eventually realises (after encouraging the Argosians to rebel against Pelops and pull down the statue) that there was a transmitter in the statue than was controlling the nanites (including making them fall deeply asleep each evening). Without the transmitter, they will have normal lifespans, and Jack will return to his actual age as the nanites only mimicked the signs of aging.
Further Thoughts
Sadly I haven’t been able to find a decent screenshot of Jack wrapped in a sheet after waking up with Kynthia 😀
A few interesting things in this one - it’s the first time we’ve seen the Stargate in a temple that’s still in use; we find out that Daniel has delivered a baby before (after the guys all turn to Sam and she says she doesn’t know what to do!); and when the nanites start evolving Hammond is very quick to stop the research, destroy the samples, and refuse to return to Argos (having learned from the Broca Divide).
Teal’c and Daniel translate the inscriptions on the statue together, which I think is the first time we see this happen, and Daniel says the ‘obscure Goa’uld dialect’ is Linear A script, which seems hugely significant from a linguistics point of view! Is this ever mentioned again?
On a practical note: if they are not allowed to leave the village, which doesn’t seem that large, does that mean that the Argosians are all inter-related by now? Why haven’t they become over-crowded in the limited space (though perhaps the nanites control fertility)? How do they produce enough food to feed themselves? Do they ever build boats to explore the sea?
I feel that this episode (plus the mention of Carter’s actions on P3X-595) probably started the ‘eating alien food and losing inhibitions’ fanfic trope and influenced the ‘accidentally married off-world’ trope.
It’s also interesting, having come back to Stargate mainly via fanfic at first, to see that things I found cliched in fic (Teal’c helping Daniel translate) are actually canon and I’d just forgotten that.

Louder for the people in the back !!!
Why the Stargate fandom can officially declare Sam/Jack canon (even though the producers forgot to mention it)
Although the relationship between Samantha Carter and Jack O'Neill has never been officially confirmed, it has been hinted at in both SG-1 and SGA, as well as in interviews with writers, producers, and cast members.
Joe Mallozzi (producer) said in this blog post
“Jack and Sam could have gotten together after Jack’s retirement, but it was never made canon because, quite frankly, it wasn’t my call. Still, despite the lack of official confirmation, it was only natural that they should get together after the events of Threads and, in my mind, they have been together ever since.”
If, for some reason, you don’t think that they got together, here’s a big list of reasons why, as soon as they possibly could after the frat regs that had been keeping them apart for so long no longer affected them, they finally managed to have a proper romantic relationship, as well as some proof that was slipped in to SGA and SG-1 when they did.
I’ve tried to take my ship goggles off for this, and to only pick out moments that objectively show the relationship between Sam and Jack (and have, in doing so, had to miss a few of my favourite episodes off the list!), but despite that there’s still a hell of a lot of support for this perfect ship.

BUFFY: The demons! They were these three big apey things! XANDER: No. No, not here. Not at my job. That's your job. BUFFY: I can't help where the forces of darkness attack me, Xander. XANDER: Buffy, would you look at this mess? Do you have any idea how much it's gonna cost to repair this? And what am I supposed to say to the clients, should I just show them the demon bodies and say it's all their fault? BUFFY: You can't. They melted. But ... uh ... There, there are witnesses! Vince! Vince! You'll tell him, right, how I jumped in and protected you from those ... things? VINCE: Hey, I don't know what you're talking about. All I know is you were losin' it or something. That time of the month, huh? BUFFY: What?! You were huddled in a corner! Crying! Like a baby! VINCE: Hey, hey. No way. Me, crying?

Coordinate Remote Viewing Stages I–VI
The following is a reproduction of content from "Coordinate Remote Viewing Stages I–VI and Beyond" (SG1 Project Officer, 1985, pp. 6–7), a declassified document (CIA-RDP96-00788R001000400001-7) released by the Central Intelligence Agency under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) on June 18, 1998.
Stage I Major Gestalt: In Stage I the viewer is trained to provide a quick-reaction response to the reading of geographic coordinates by the interviewer. The coordinates are expressed in degrees, minutes, and seconds when possible. The response takes the form of an immediate, primitive "squiggle" on paper. This "squiggle" is known as an ideogram. The ideogram captures the overall feeling/motion of the gestalt of the site (e.g., fluid/wavy for water). This response is kinesthetic and not visual. In Stage I visual images are noted and labeled as AOL [Analytical Overlay].
Stage II Sensory Contact: In Stage II the viewer is trained to become sensitive to sensations associated with the site. These sensations concern sounds, smells, tastes, textures, temperatures, and energies at the site. Although colors are perceivable, Stage II signals are essentially nonvisual in nature. As in Stage I, visual images are noted and declared as AOL.
Stage III Dimension, Motion, and Mobility: In Stages I and II, data typically appear to emerge as fragmented data bits. In Stage III we observe the emergence of a broader concept of the site. With Stage I and II data forming a foundation, more detailed data and dimensional aspects such as length, height, and distances, begin to appear. This increased contact is known as a "widening of the aperture". At this point contact with the site appears sufficiently strengthened that the viewer begins to have an overall appreciation of the site as a whole. This is known as an "aesthetic impact". After the viewer experiences an "aesthetic impact" the urge to draw the site begins. These drawings are expressed in the form of sketches, trackers (outlines of the general configuration of the site), and additional spontaneous ideograms. The final product of Stage I through Stage III training is the recognition of the overall gestalt and physical configuration of the site.
Stage IV General Qualitative Analytical Aspects: Because of the increased site contact that occurs in Stage III, in Stage IV data of an analytical nature begin to emerge. Contained in Stage IV data are elements that go beyond normal observational concepts. The ambience of the site such as military, religious, technical, or educational, can be expressed in Stage IV. Cultural factors such as Soviet, Muslim, or Arabic, and functional indicators such as power generation, BW research, or human research, can also be reported accurately in Stage IV. Stage IV is therefore the point where the viewer begins to become operational.
Stage V Specific Analytical Aspects by Interrogating the Signal Line: Many complex bits of data are produced during Stage IV. If during Stage IV the viewer attempts to probe or question the significance of this data it usually results in the production of AOL. The analytic functions of the viewer "try too hard" and fill in with logical but incorrect data. In Stage V however, special techniques are used to produce the more detailed information without triggering AOL.
Stage VI Three Dimensional Contact and Modeling: In Stage VI the viewer uses various materials to produce three dimensional representations of the site or specific elements at the site location. Materials such as clay, cardboard, and poster paper can be used to produce models of the specific structure at the site as well as the general configuration of the surrounding area. This construction is done with "feeling". The use of these materials is not simply an attempt to render a more exact representation of the site than can be done verbally, or by means of drawing. The kinesthetic activity appears to both quench AOL formation associated with purely cerebral processes, and to act as a trigger to produce further analytical content of the site, even concerning aspects not being specifically addressed by the modeling.
