rewrite erik be like 'what is phone?'

based on a new scene i wrote for his mystery! ;)

Nadir's telephone hung on a wall near the front desk. Erik looked at it curiously. "Do you know how to use a telephone?" the Persian asked. "No," Erik replied. "The managers pick up this bell thing and the person's already there." "That's the earpiece. When you pick it up, an operator will be on the line. Just tell them who you want to talk to and they'll connect you to Carlotta." Erik picked up the earpiece, which was resting on a silver grip on the side of the box. He couldn't hear anything. He lowered the earpiece and gave Nadir a curious glance. "We have to let someone know you want to call!" Nadir said. Erik fiddled with the edge of the earpiece while Nadir turned a crank on the side of the box. Erik winced as the bells rang loudly. Then they heard a faint voice. "Listen through the earpiece," Nadir whispered, causing Erik to move towards the mouthpiece on the box. "No, it's in your hand! Talk into the thing on the box." "Oh," Erik held the earpiece up and crouched down so he could talk into the mouthpiece (which wasn't suited for tall people!). "B- Bonjour." he said, his voice a little louder than intended. "Bonjour," the operator said in a voice that sounded crackly and slightly muffled. "How may I help you today?" "I- I- I- I'd like to talk to, um…" Erik swallowed nervously. "C- C- Car, um, uh, Carl- lotta, um… uh…" He blanked on Carlotta's last name. "Giud- no… Um…" Suddenly, he remembered her name. But it started with a vowel, so he couldn't get it out. He swallowed, took a deep breath and opened his mouth. The word was lodged deep in his throat! It took three breaths before he was able to find his voice. "…Hello?" the puzzled operator asked. Erik blushed. "E- Espinoza," he said, dragging out the word before saying in one quick breath. "Carlotta Espinoza." "Carlotta Espinoza… One moment, please." A moment later, Erik jumped back at the sound of a crackle. He told Nadir, "Someone's scrunching up tin foil in there!" "That's just the call connecting. It'll go away in a bit." Erik braced himself for the too loud voice of Carlotta yell in his ear. He moved the earpiece away… "I'm sorry, the person you are trying to reach is not available." the operator said. "Really, great!" Erik blurted out. "I- I mean… too bad." "Please try again later. Au revoir." Erik wanted to say 'adieu', but he gave a soft 'mm-hmm' before hearing a click. After a few moments of silence, he set the earpiece in its grip. Then he put his hands on the front desk and leaned back with a sigh. "That was terrible," Erik declared. "I never want to talk on a telephone again! Not unless it's to you or Christine." "I'm very proud of you for doing it, though," Nadir said with a smile. "That took a lot of bravery." Erik gave a thin smiile back. "I sure didn't feel brave. I was so nervous! And it didn't accomplish much outside of the most awkward socialization in telephone history."

Fate: Does your OC believe in destined meetings? True love, soulmates, hearing the bells? Have they ever experienced this?

Pierre: I don't -- I don't think ... so .... at least not explicitly. I am sure he's read some books and been like that's nice. And seen people talk it with a smile [and maybe some MILD judgment]. Then he met Felix, and it was like -- not bells. But frission? A zing up his spine? In his head? He can't say Felix is his soulmate [because wouldn't it be easier?] but he is very glad Felix is in his life, he also hopes Felix is in his life for a VERY long time. Kendis: I think. In a sense. Kendis definitely reads that stuff more than Pierre does -- they're a big romance novel reader, though soulmates/star-crossed lovers aren't big in her roster. I think she feels like soulmates can come in any form, be any time, and it isn't entirely DESTINY [though maybe that can fit for a lack of a better word], but people coming into your life at the right time. Or maybe they didn't but tehy've changed your life for the better. People who become important to you very quickly because yall just click. Kendis has felt that friendship-wise, in a sense. Never romantically. Though yes, she gravitates toward Nate and Ava [in their respective routes]. But that's because of who they are as people.

For Good: Is there anyone in your OC's life who had an undeniable positive impact on who they are as a person? How did knowing this person improve your OC's life?

Pierre: Hrm. Hmmm. HMMMMMMM. I THINK I will say Verda. I mean Nat and Felix are obvious. But I feel having someone who was like minded yet more put together was good for Pierre. Especially when he was younger. Still is. Verda is a sounding board and has a steady life that Pierre really respects and admires -- he respects and admires Verda period. Especially seeing Verda as a queer man whose personality is similarish to him. I feel in a lot of ways just Verda being Verda did a lot in helping Pierre's healing, both with his self and his break up with Bobby. [Probably why Verda is so fiercely protective ;-)] Kendis: Canon-wise I think Tina. Though I do say Verda and Kendis are probably closer. But I feel Tina was probably if not Kendis' first friend, then Kendis longest lasting. And ofc there is UB. Non-canon-wise, I will say her cousin Ben [her big brother in her OG canon]. I say he has a lot to do with Kendis being GOOD in the chaotic good rather than neutral. [And probably his family too, but she got to see them a lot less.] That steady and loving influence that had their back but could also get Disappointed. I think Kendis idolizes Ben here too --- which is ... not good, but not HIS fault lmao. So in general he improved their life.

For Bad: Is there anyone who had an undeniable negative impact on your OC’s life? How did your OC deal with that change? Have they been able to move on?

Bobby. Carrying on. And Rebcca. Whew that was easy! lmao.

Pierre: I mean Murphy is definitely up there. But Bobby wrecked Pierre's confidence re: romance. And probably himself. I think Bobby was and still is the one thing Pierre can't be smiiles and/or logical about. I think he is slowly moving on though. Thanks to Verda and Felix. Rebecca probably didn't help his trust issues, but he's not thinking on that. And not in the 'Ima ignore it way' [well a bit] and more in the it hasn't hit him yet. He's more focused on the disappointment and hoping she can do better. Learning she lied has definitely unburied some past issues. Given that it's still THERE and she is still making the same mistakes, it is hard to move on. But he wants to, he really wants to -- not just in general, but with her. But also Murphy still gives Pierre nightmares where he breaks out in sweats, and he's seen some things. So one should not discount that either. But nightmares are there when you sleep. Bobby and Rebecca seem to be everywhere lately. Kendis: Murphy. Bobby is either an ex-friend or ex-so depending on which route Kendis is on [Nate/Ava, respectively] and he's -- a nuisance who gets on their nerves but. And Rebecca is ... it is complicated. But Murphy is like a ghost that haunts them. He affects their dreams, their worries, I think he probably even shook their confidence a little. They're better now re: confidence but he's still a shadow if that makes sense? And the anger/night mares are still there.

And honestly, Debut is just a good album. I think people overlook it because it was her first or some people think it's too yeehaw. But Our Song? Teardrops on My Guitar? Cold As You? Should've Said No? This album is just soooo good. I think more will appreciate it when TV is released.

Part Seven

The release date rolls around quickly and Vince is more happy than ever. He has been itching to see Lula, plus his mom keeps bugging him about lying to her. It’s fine, Lula is chill. Plus she doesn’t have to know, he says to himself getting ready to go to the pharmacy, I have to dress to impress. Since the last time he snooped outside the pharmacy Lula had been getting finer by the day. He wears black slacks and a Burberry shirt, subtle but simple. He sprays Versace Eros, brushes his hair forward to hide his cowlick and heads to the pharmacy.

He gets there just after lunch. Strolling in, he ignores the stares from ex-coworkers and looks around for Lula. Why she wearing a pencil skirt today? he huffs, walking towards her.

“Hey Lula, I want to apologise-“

“We should talk later” She smiles “These people are nosy af.”

“Cool. You look amazing by the way.” He says surprised that she’s smiiling at him. Lula giggles at the compliment, waving him off.

“I’ll see you later Vincent”.

Damn, he thinks to himself as he leaves the pharmacy, she might be mad at me.

Lula goes home to pick up some of the notes she keeps at her place and to freshen up before driving to the operation apartment. Carrying her notebooks, she unlocks the door and heads in. “Is that pèn patat I scent?” she calls from the hallway. Vince is in the kitchen getting a saucer and fork for her.

“And you made Pate kòde too?!” She beams reaching for one.

“It’s the least I can do, boubout. You’ve been running everything so well” He looks at her thighs. Damn is the slit suppose to be that high?

He pulls her in for a hug and whispers. “I really appreciate you Lula, more than you probably think”

She wraps her arms across his neck, staring up at him. “I know you do Vince.” She wiggles out of the embrace but holds his hands.

“Can I have a slice now?” Lula asks, he laughs letting go to slice a piece for both of them.

Lula catches him up on everything and the improvements made to p-p. Vince is in awe. She turns to get her notebook and passes it to him.

“Vince… I’m out”

He pauses.

“What do you mean?”

“Now look who’s being slow”, she rolls her eyes “It’s been fun, thrilling and exciting but I can’t do this forever”

“If you need more money I can-”

“Oh no! I have so much, I’m almost afraid” she laughs.

“So what’s the problem?” He asks heated “You’re a big part of this being successful, Lula. Look at everything you’ve fixed. Why-“

“Vince, when you started this, you said it is to help our people and the community. I have been doing that. Now I want to live luxurious. Souple, don’t make this uncomfortable.”

“I’m not tryna do that, I just don’t get it. Like why now?”

Lula sighs frustrated with him, her and everything.

“My mind is made up, I have savings and plenty investment to last generations.”

“I understand” He stares blankly at her.

“Don’t be a stranger. Tell Aunty Anita, I’ll visit when I can.”

Lula packs some more pen patat, drops the keys and leaves the apartment.

“Fuck!” He shouts as soon as she closes the door.
