These photos are from the air flow simulation I did yesterday, to find out what impact the wind would have on the structure of the identification buoy. I recorded the animations to make it easier to analyze.

It was fun to do this, I discovered that I can make several different types of fluids, which could be useful in future projects. The article is almost ready, along with the boat and buoy codes.

Here are the charts with results generated from Solidworks:

Generally I don't do this, but I'll put the translation of the analysis I put in the article here, maybe it can help someone.

Although it is not common to carry out engineering tests in this specific context, we chose to conduct an analysis dedicated to aerodynamic conditions, aiming to understand the effect of wind on the structural integrity of the buoy. To carry out this study, we used Solidworks, making use of the fluid simulation system incorporated into the program.

Initially, we modeled the buoy structure, assigning specific materials to each component. Subsequently, we establish the necessary boundary conditions to faithfully simulate the behavior of the structure in real conditions. In the next step, we created surfaces that represent the wind pressure in the region where it impacts the buoy, and defined the area in which the wind pressure would be applied. The application of wind loads and adjustment of analysis settings were carried out using the “Flow Simulation” tool.

This process allowed an accurate representation of the aerodynamic conditions on the buoy structure. Additionally, we adjust relevant parameters for the analysis, ensuring a comprehensive approach.

The simulation execution culminated in the generation of a comprehensive report, documenting the results obtained. The interpretation of these results provided valuable insights into the structure's performance under simulated aerodynamic conditions. This engineering test highlighted the importance of considering aerodynamic conditions when assessing structural integrity.

It is possible to highlight some fundamental reasons for the importance of this analysis, such as the assessment of structural integrity, assessment of operational safety, design optimization, which can result in savings in materials and manufacturing costs.

The Montagem_boia.SLDSAM model was configured with standard parameters, carrying out 57 iterations to achieve convergent results. The mesh was defined with basic dimensions (Nx = 40, Ny = 9, Nz = 17), and boundary conditions were established to represent the fluid environment of interest.

The physical time interval considered was 0 seconds, and the CPU time required for the simulation was also recorded. The simulation results revealed an interesting distribution of fluid properties and flow characteristics. The total number of cells in the mesh was 7626, all occupied by the fluid. Among these, 1106 cells were in direct contact with solids.

The mesh dimensions (X,Y,Z) indicated a significant extension of the model, with minimum and maximum variations in each direction. Analysis of the velocity field revealed a range of [0 m/s; 7,510 m/s], indicating different flow regimes within the simulation domain. The pressure varied between [101294.37 Pa; 101430.23 Pa], with a reference pressure of 101325.00 Pa. The temperature remained relatively constant, with values ​​varying from [293.20 K; 293.21 K]. The fluid density showed a minimum variation, within the range of [1.20 kg/m^3; 1.21 kg/m^3].

There was no consideration of factors such as heat in solids, radiation, porous media and gravity to simplify the model to meet the specific objectives of this simulation. Based on the analysis of the images obtained, the reduction in wind speed becomes visible when facing the structure of the identifying buoy.

Notably, the average wind speed in São Paulo, situated at 25km/h, is insufficient to cause damage to the aforementioned structure or to displace it from its original position. It is also worth noting that, when encountering the obstacle represented by the buoy, the wind flow tends to bypass the structure mostly from above, to the detriment of the sides.

This observation suggests an effective resistance of the buoy to direct wind impact, contributing to its stability and structural robustness. The results clearly indicate that the structure's resistance to wind action is remarkable, since the force exerted by the wind did not reach levels that would compromise the integrity or stability of the configuration.

The solidity of the structure in the face of these conditions suggests that the design presents a robust and adequate response to the expected wind loads.

A look back at 2023

I rarely wrote anything here nowadays. Having someone to talk to really changed a lot. But hey, this has been a tradition, so let's look back at 2023.

The year started slow, at least for several days, until  I was told to attend a Welding Inspector course. At that time, it had been years since I even hold an electrode holder. Suddenly everything changed. Until the end of March, my days were filled with classes and practice, for six days a week, 10 hours a day. The course were finished, and now I am an IWIP, probably (I haven't even received the diploma, but I wasn't invited for the retest).

This year, I went back and forth between Bandung, Solo and Purwokerto, to meet the love of my life. She graduated this August after such a struggle, so that was great.

Even though I still had less than two years in this job, I became a speaker on two different events. One for a Failure Analysis forum, and the other for a Solidworks event. After finishing my Welding Inspector course, I was also asked to teach the next batch of WI students on Destructive Testing module. For these experiences, I still need to learn a lot on how to speak in front of many people. Especially when teaching, I felt that I messed up on the timing and flow of the class.

Then, my first in-situ metallography job! And the second, and third, and fourth. They were tiring, sometimes we had to work nights, but those were interesting nonetheless.

On that family issue, I think it was pretty much finished, after spending quite a lot of money. Tho perhaps some help is still needed in the future. Oh, and shits still happened. Of course, that single person fucked up.

And all of a sudden, my relationship with @vanilachocolate progressed quite far. Hopefully everything will be a smooth sailing next year *fingers crossed*.

Writing this, I realized that a lot, and I mean A LOT, has happened this year. But again and again, I kept feeling that I didn't really grow much. I still feel lost, having no idea on where to go and what to do to improve myself. The department where I work at now is in a mess, and I'm having a hard time to move on from my previous job. I even attended a webinar that was not related at all to my current job, just because it had some relation to my previous one (the webinar was about Industrial Design). Even I had this crazy idea, to get certified as a national IP consultant, and perhaps I can return to my previous career. It was a very long shot, but honestly, I'm not sure about anything else.

When I finished typing this, light earthquake shook. The second time today. Before various dark thoughts come, let me close this year by wishing that 2024 will be a kind year for all of us here.

Before my second year in mechanical engineering begins (I started in August of 2023, so my first year ends this month and the second year begins in August of 2024), I wanted to catch up with any subjects that I think deserve some extra attention, and also to use that free time to work on any skills that I'll need to build a nice curriculum, since I plan on looking for internships as soon as possible. So, here's a list of my academic goals for the holiday season:

Study about the productive aspects of manufacturing processes (methods and machines used in the manufacturing of different types of products, along with heat treatments and strengthening mechanisms used to enhance the mechanical and chemical properties of metals)

Study integrals (the only part of Calculus 1 that had me panicking 🥹)

Learn to use Solidworks

Study physics (basics of some topics that will be used in my physics courses during the second year)

Learn more about aviation

Well, I'll try to do it all while also enjoying my holidays and following an exercise, sleep and mindfullness routine (physical and mental health have been on the top of my list of priorities the past couple of months, along with academics, although the sleeping part might get messy bc I'm considering playing Mystic Messenger again 🤡). I'm really excited to start after my 3 last exams this week (hopefully)!!

Tabiki not olmak istiyorsanızda Apple Pencil’da almanız gerekiyor. Bende Apple Pencil, Paperlike ekran koruyucu ve bir adet not defterine benzeyen kılıf satın aldım. Tüm bu bahsettiğim ürünlerede göz atmak isterseniz linklerini sizleri için bırakırım.

Üretkenlik için En İyi Uygulamalar

Şahsen üretkenlik için yıllardır o kadar değişik uygulama kullandım ki burda bunları listelesem herhalde bu yayın bitmez. Ve bunca yılın sonunda en iyi üretkenlik uygulamalarının, cihaz ile birlikte gelen uygulamalar olduğunu gördüm. Bu neden böyle derseniz; bir ara not almak için Apple Store’dan indirdiğim bir uygulamayı kullanıyordum fakat bir kaç sene sonra bu uygulama ortadan kalktı ve yeni sürümlere olan desteğide zamanla kaldırıldı. O yüzden bu listede öncelikli olarak neredeyse her Apple cihazın içerisinde var olan uygulamalardan bahsedeceğim ve ardından da üçüncü parti uygulamalarada bu listede yer vereceğim.

Freeform

Apple’ın 13 Aralık, 2022’de ilk defa yayınladığı Freeform uygulaması benim en çok sevdiğim not alma uygulaması oldu. Neden derseniz; ilk olarak bu uygulama tamamen ücretsiz ve ayrıca uygulama içerisinde hiç bir limitleme yok. Ben tüm kitap özetlerini Freeform’da alıyorum ve yayında kullanacağım araştırmalar içinde yine Freeform’u tercih ediyorum.

Birazdan bahsedeceğim üçüncü parti uygulamalardaki kadar kompleks özelliklere sahip olmasada bu basit arayüz, ücretsiz ve tamamen sınırsız kullanım, çok fazla kalem seçeneği ve bitmeyen not alma alanı ile Freeform benim en sevdiğim Kalemle not alma uygulaması oldu. Freeform’u daha önce kullanmadıysanızda Apple’ın hazırladığı 3 dakika 50 saniyelik kısa eğitim videosunun linkini sizler için bıraktım. Üçüncü Parti Not Alma Uygulamaların Beğenmedim Yanları

2024 yılı itibariyle en popüler üçüncü parti not alma uygulamalarına bakacak olursak Notability ve Good Notes 6 karşımıza çıkıyor. Şahsen bu iki uygulamayıda denemiş biri olarak, iki uygulamanın en beğenmediğim yanı; uygumalar ücretsiz olsada içerisinde alabileceğiniz not sayısında kısıtlamaların olması oldu. Tam uygulamara alışmış ve bir kaç notunuzu burda almaya başlamış iken ücretsiz versiyondaki limite ulaşmış halde kendinizi buluyorsunuz ve bir ücret ödemeden bu uygulamaları kullanmaya devam edemiyorsunuz. Benim şahsen beklentim; not almada limit konması yerine bu uygulamaların pro özelliklerinin sadece paralı versiyonda yer almasıydı. Ama ne yazık ki sistem şu an için böyle ilerlemiyor.

Notability

Notability uygulamasının ücretsiz versiyonunda iCloud ile notların bulut üzerine aktarılması seçeneğide yok, yani kullandığınız cihaza bir şey olursa notlarınızda o cihazla gitmiş oluyor. Ancak premium versiyona geçerseniz iCloud eşleşmesi yapabiliyorsunuz.

Notability’nin Premium versiyonunda kalemle yazdığınız matematik formülleri algılanıp klavyedeki karakterlere dönüştürülebiliyor. Notability web sitesinde premium versiyonun platformlara göre farklılık gösterdiğini söylüyor Apple platformları için yıllık üyelik 2024 senesi itibariyle $14.99 ve bu uygulama Apple store’dan 286.000’den fazla değerlendirme almış ve genel değerlendirme puanında ise 5 üzerinde 4.7 oy almayı başarmış.

Goodnotes 6

Goodnotes 6, iPad’i alır almaz ilk denediğim uygulamalardan biri oldu. Ben amatör bir müzisyenim ve çoğunlukla müzikle alakalı notlarımı fiziksel olarak sahip olduğum müzik defterine alıyorum. Fakat goodnotes, müzik defteri formatı dahil olmak üzere pek çok farklı not defteri formatını size sunuyor. İsterseniz bir ajanda, isterseniz çizgili bir not defteri veya kareli bir matematik defterine Goodnotes 6’da ulaşabiliyorsunuz. Bende durum böyle olunca tüm müzik çalışmalarımı burdaki deftere not almaya başlamıştım ki yine ücretsiz versiyonun limitine ulaştım.

Şahsen not defterlerinin farklı formatlarda sunulması fikri benim oldukça hoşuma gitti. Eğer goodnotes 6’nın tüm özelliklerine ulaşmak ve not alma limitini kaldırmak isterseniz, yine 2024 senesi itibariyle yıllık $9.99 veya bir defaya mahsus $29.99 ödeyerek ömür boyu bu programın premium versiyonuna ulaşabilirsiniz. Ayrıca eğer öğrenci email adresiniz var ise Goodnotes 6’nın premium versiyonunu ücretsiz olarak kullanabiliyorsunuz.

Apple Notes Uygulaması

Eğer ki sizde benim gibi yapılacaklar listesi hazırlamaktan hoşlanıyorsanız ve aklınıza gelen şeyleri hemen hızlıca not almak istiyorsanız, bunun için en sık kullandığım uygulama Apple cihazların içerisinde ücretsiz olarak gelen Notes uygulaması. Ara tasarımı çok basit olan Notes aslında pek çok insanın not alma ihtiyaçlarının tamamını karşılayacak kapasiteye sahip.

Notes uygulamasının eğitim videolarına göz atınca aslında bu uygulamanın ne kadar çok özelliğe sahip olduğunu ve pek çoğundan bihaber olduğumu gördüm. iPadOS 17 ile güncelenen Notes uygulamasının özelliklerini 5 dakika içerisinde anlatan bir videoyuda yine sizler için bıraktım. Ancak Notes uygulamasının en baştan tüm özellikleri ile öğrenmek istiyorsanız her biri 5’er dakika civarında olan ve toplam 19 videodan oluşan bir eğitim serisinin linkinide yine sizler için bıraktım.

Notion

Bu listede yer vermeden geçemeyeceğim uygulamalardan bir taneside Notion uygulaması. Ben bütün podcast metinlerini Notion uygulaması üzerinden hazırlıyorum. Genellikle basit arayüze sahip olan ve kullanımı basit olan uygulamalar benim ilgimi çekiyor. O yüzden Notion uygulaması benim podcast metinlerimi yazmak için tercih ettiğim ilk uygulama. Ayrıca ücretsiz versiyonunda herhangi bir karakter veya sayfa limitide şu an için yok.

Notion uygulamasının kendi Youtube kanalı var ve en basit özelliklerden en kompleks özelliklere kadar her şeyi bu kanal üzerinden öğrenebilirsiniz. Eğer sizde benim gibi sadece en temel özellikleri kullanacak olan biriyseniz 6 videodan oluşan temel eğitim serisi işinizi görecektir. Ancak bu uygulamayı daha kompleks işler için kullanmak istiyorsanız 30 videoluk eğitim serisinin linkini sizler için bıraktım.

Apple Reminders ve Apple Calendar

Üretkenlik için en sık ziyaret ettiğim ve değerini sonradan öğrendiğim iki uygulama ise Apple Reminders ve Apple Calendar. Hatırlatmalar kurmak ve yapılacaklar listesi düzenlemek için bu iki uygulama benim en fazla vakit geçirdiğim uygulama oldu. Apple Calendar ve Apple Reminders uygulamalarının özelliklerini pek çoğuna sizde benim gibi büyük ihtimalle hiç dokunmadıysanız ben her iki uygulamanın detaylı eğitim videolarını bıraktım.

Microsoft Office Uygulamaları

Tüm herkesin dijital araçlarında temel taşı haline gelmiş olan Microsoft Office uygulamalarını bu listede yer vermeden geçmemiz mümkün değil diye düşünüyorum. Tam zamanlı olarak çalıştığım Proje mühendisliği işinde her gün bu uygulamaları ben şahsen kullanıyorum. Telefonumda bu uygulamalar yıllardır var olmuş olsada, iPad versiyonlarını neredeyse bilgisayardaki versiyon ile aynı sevivye ulaşmış durumda. Outlook,Office, Excel ve PowerPoint uygulamalarını her gün raporlama işleri için kullanıyorum.

iPad’te icloud hesabına tüm bu dosyaları kaydettiğim için yazdığım raporların hepsi akşam eve geldiğimde bilgisayarımda kayıtlı halde oluyor. Bundan dolayı bu uygulamalar hayatımı oldukça kolaylaştırdı diyebilirim. Birde Timestamp Camera uygulaması ile raporlar için çektiğim fotoğraflarda lokasyon, tarih ve saat sağ üst köşede yer alıyor bu sayede daha detaylı raporlar oluşturuyorum. Bu arada office uygulamalarının ipad için eğitim videosuna da göz atabilirsiniz.

iMovie

Listemizin sonlarına doğru yaklaştığımızda ise iMovie benim ipad’te hızlı video düzenlemek için başvurduğum tamamen ücretsiz ve kullanımı çok basit olan bir uygulama. Ayrıca yine iCloud üzerinden eşleşme özelliğide mevcut olduğu için bazen üzerinde çalıştığım bir projeye bilgisayara geçtiğimde kolaylıkla ulaşabiliyorum. iMovie’nin en son versiyonu ile de artık bilgisayar versiyonunda sahip olduğunuz neredeyse her özelliğe sahip oluyorsunuz. Kişisel Veri Güvenliği Uygulamaları

Listenin son sırasına ise kişisel güvenlik uygulamalarını bıraktım. Yıllar boyunca yüzlerce farklı VPN ve reklam engelleme uygulamalarını denemiş biri olarak en çok işime yarayan ve en kullanışlı bulduğum sadece iki uygulama oldu. Bu uygulamaların hiç biri bu yayınada sponsor olmuş değiller. İlk olarak isviçre tabanlı bir uygulama olan Proton VPN bence en başarılı VPN uygulamalarından bir tanesi, ücretsiz versiyonunda P2P yani torrent desteği gelmiyor ve ben aylık $5 karşılığında Proton VPN Plus’ı yaklaşık 3 yıldır kullanıyorum ve oldukça memnunum.

Reklam bloklama uygulaması olarakta AdGuard bütün platformlarda ve cihazlarda desteği olan ve ücretsiz bir uygulama. Sadece reklam engelleme değil, diğer uygulamaların ücretli olarak sunduğu pek çok ekstra koruma özelliğini ücretsiz olarak sunuyor. Bu yüzden uzun süredir bu uygulamayı da tüm cihazlarımda kullanıyorum.
