#SOTR Patience

It was really interesting to work on this once majestic mansion. The exterior of this building is from the awesome Jenba, so thank you, it was inspirating to use it as a base ;)

Ground floor - First floor - Basement

Now, let’s speak about the Melien family (I know, nobody will read all this ^^’).

Lugubrious, sinister, these are the words that Joseph's colleagues usually use to describe him. This brilliant psychologist does't care about the human being, he is more interested in the functioning of the human mind. As is sister, Agathe Barrière, he has a fascination for the supernatural.

He only married Éliane because his parents wanted him to, as she was already pregnant. But he still slept with other women, and when on day, he came back home with the young Victor, he never give any explanation. But a single look at this icy stare they both had, with their light grey are, was enough for Espérance.

She has never been a condident woman, and as the time pass and her beauty fades away, she withdraw into herself. Her only pleasure was to attend receptions, thanks to her husband's relations with people in high places, hoping to attract attention with her extravagant dresses and seductive attitude.

As a stay at home mom, she never really cared about her children. With this heavy atmosphere in the household, it is a miracle that their first daughter, remained an optimist ! Patience always knew what she wants to do when she gets older: become a wedding planner, to help loving couples organize the best day of their lives. She is a hard worker, maybe it's her way to avoid her parents. But she would raher spend her evening at her office looking for the perfect caterer, with a pizza and a glass of wine, than attending a family dinner. 

Garance always been there for her sister, assisting her in her work, as her official photographer. People always think she is the older one, because of her serious and melancolic attitude, her short hair, and her elegant outfits. However, she often think about running away, with only her camera and some practical clothes, to explore the world and capture its beauty.

The youngest one, David, never really met his parents expectations. When he was still a child, he spend most of his time outside, playing with his friend instead of doing his homework, coming home with his shirt dirty and his pants torn. He is not a rebellious one, he his simply carefree ! He enjoy waking up early the sunday, to go fishing with his father.

Victor often come along with them. He does not particularly like this activity, but Devoir his the only person to accept him in his family. Espérance rejected him, his sisters have always been distant, and his own father never give him any attention.

He had always been a calm boy, but it's sometime hard not react to his stepmother animosity. Thanks to the practice of boxing, he manages to keep his self-control, when he his facing her. He also share his father interest for the occult, and his studies on these subjects are for him another way to escape.

Voilà ! I hope you enjoyed my caracters’ story ;)

An Apology

Hello, friends! So I want to apologize. If any of you have seen the prior post, I was planning on releasing the new chapter for Spider on the Run the day after I posted Of Webs or Weapons's new chapter. Buuuut it's been two days since I put that out... and nine since I last updated SOTR.

I've been a little busy, and things are getting even busier and will probably stay that way for the next three weeks or so. As such, I've been writing the newest chapter for SOTR in bits and pieces when I find the time and desire to get it done. Now, I've technically hit the minimal word limit I set for myself in making new chapters, but I haven't finished everything I wanted to do in said chapter and I feel a bit bad for the unexplained absence. So, for any of you who are seeing this that actively read SOTR, the next chapter will hopefully be out by at the very least Saturday, and I'm thinking it'll actually be a pretty large chapter (estimated length is roughly 10k). In fact, it was becoming so large that I even split part of the original idea off from the chapter and grouped it with chapter 9 instead. So please be patient with me!

As a little reward, I've decided to give you a little preview into the contents of chapters 8, 9, and 10 by letting you know their titles early.

Chapter 8 will be called Only for a Moment.

Chapter 9 will be called In Memoriam.

Chapter 10 will be called A Turn for the Worst.

Angels Envy, Son of a Bitch Monday 22 May 2017

Cheery birthday greetings from the 86 train Philadelphia to Boston Amtrak.

I’m so very behind with my scribing. So am trying to gather my thoughts together on the 7 hour train ride. It’s a little wobbly and shaky on board, so only adds to my kerfuddled brain!

I’m flashing back to Monday, when the SOTR took Louisville by storm.

Angels Envy, a family run and owned Bourbon distillery. We took the midday tour slot. Russell was our tour guide, he was very loud and shouty, and did a grand effort. The vats smelt so good and the “moonshine” sure hit the spot.

This is what we had been waiting for…. The tasting. (She lied).

Sat in a lovely newly refurbished wooden reception room, available for private hire, we were each presented with an empty glass and chocolate. Russell then went around and poured a good amount of Angels Envy. Now for some classic moments. Bearing in mind there are no bourbon drinkers amongst us…… The process is to taste the Bourdon over three tastings, the first being a small sip, breathing in from the nose and out from the mouth to get the most of the bouquet. This was nearly enough to knock us out. Sisters A, well, they clearly loved it, their facial expressions and the rush to intake water = priceless. I then got a fit of the giggles at this critical tasting moment, and rather lost the plot. Stage two was to add a cube of ice. (Doubling the quantity of Bourbon) Stage three was to bite into the chocolate to extract more flavours. (Stage 4 / unofficially). Was to neck the balance. Much hilarity. 😂😂😂😂

Having taken the Bourbon world by storm, we set off on foot to the heart of Louisville to conquer the Slugger museum and factory. Stopping for lite lunch at the BBC bar.

WOW we weren’t expecting the worlds largest Slugger Bat outside the factory! It was massive, it would have been rude not to hugger a slugger. I was impressed.

Tour $15 (no tax). Starting out as billets of ash, maple and birch until the finished Louisville Slugger, dipped or not dipped, we saw it all. It reminded me of when I worked in Poole Pottery and their factory tour, workers performing to order. Lots of smoke and mirrors. But interesting none the less. And it smelt so good again in the factory. And WINNER we all left with mini sluggers included in the ticket price? Result.

A hot and humid walk back to Jenny the jeep, and our thoughts turn to a KFC for the memory. Turns out this quest was not as easy as you would imagine in Kentucky. Once again Sister A, we can only apologise for the 6 times re routing, and childish laugher coming from the back. But, we covered the Jewish Hospital. 🤕😭😭😭😭😭😭. Thanks so much for your patience. I’d love to say the wait was worth it….. But the home made pie more than made up for the lack of a family boneless bucket.

We also struck gold on the area…. Bohemia Louisville, who knew?

I will NEVER forget our drive back to air bnb, S.O.B. A choir of angels? Good times. Thank you SOTR’s for a memorable and fun day. I bet you never take the Brits to a tasting session ever again! Xoxox

UKAY-UKAY STARTER PACK

Ukay-ukay is such a heaven for me. There are clothes that are not available in the market, makes you unique in the crowd. It feels like that you found a treasure when you bought a piece that is very stylish or if it is branded for low price.

But sometimes, it it hard to buy clothes in a ukay-ukay sotres because of the place; the smell of unpleasant odor, dusty store, and everything that makes you feel irritated. And to solve this problem, I will give you a checklist for easy and comfortable ukay-ukay experience.

1. Wear comfy clothes - Only wear t-shirts and shorts, or leggings; anything that will fit to your body. Sometimes, it is good to put on the ukay-ukay clothes above your clothes so the it would not touch your skin if you want to fit it. And it is not hassle and time consuming. And just wear slippers instead of shoes for easy fitting of pants.

2. Bring your own tote bag - It will not just make your ukay-ukay experience buy a lot of clothes but it will save the environment too.

3. Bring sanitizers - Of course, and yes, just to be safe. You can’t avoid the feeling of being irritated. Bacteria is everywhere and so in a ukay-ukay store. After you touch a bunch of clothes or after fitting the clothes, put some alcohol on your hands and body.

4. Don’t forget your towel - The heat will make you more irritated, sweat will surely drip on your face and body. So never forget to bring towels, honey.

5. Big EXTRA clothes - When you cannot stand the feeling of stickiness after a long journey at the ukay-ukay, bringing extra clothes won’t disappoint.

And there you have it! Always keep this on your checklist before you do thrifting. These starter pack will help you to make your ukay-ukay journey less hassle and comfortable. You might want also bring your patience with you as you dive into a bunch of clothes.

Week 12 — Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018.

Time Worked: 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Total Hours Worked: 5 hours

Total Internship Hours Worked:  146 / 120

Summary: The first thing I did during my shift was check my emails from the owners of Squatch on the Rocks and Cyrano Books. I organized all their email thread into one document/notes so that it’d be easier for me to see what’s left to do for their website. Multitasking at its finest!

I first worked on Cyrano Books, and made a list of what content I need left to complete their website. I’ll refer back to my “Sent Mails” to know what I wrote and what to work on next time I come in.

The rest of my shift was to continue working on SOTR product images. I finally finished creating kids and adults shirts with both logos (board and ski) with AND without text. Phewwwww. It was so repetitive saving all the different colors and products. I also finished the kid’s hoodies. The last thing I worked on was the adult hoodies... the hoodie has the adjustable strings in the front, so overlapping the Squatch logo looked pretty unauthentic. It took a lot of time and patience trying to Photoshop the strings so that I can overlap/lay the layer on top of the logo.

Besides finishing up the adult hoodies, I will need to work on the decals, embroidered cap, nylon flag, and bandana. I haven’t started on the last three because I need to wait for the owner to send me a better image to use. Once I have everything, that’s when I’ll begin to work on the “Shopping” page.
