It's been a month since chapter 3 was released, where's chapter 4?
(this is about this fanfic btw)
The good news is that I've written 10k words. The bad news is that I've only gotten a little more than half of the chapter done. That doesn't mean I don't have things written for the bottom half, it's just that it looks like bare dialog with general vibe notes. I estimate around 16k words total though, so it should come together sooner than later.
SO I want to release some fun snippets for y'all to look at. Please note that any of this is liable to change. Also, you can harass me in my inbox for updates. I love answering your questions and laughing at your misery.
Spoilers under cut.
_______
Ragatha stood up and walked over to where Caine was seated. “Can I get a list of all commands?” She asked, only a hint of nervousness in her voice.
“Certainly!” Caine says as he blasts into the air. He digs around in his tailcoat and pulls out an office style manilla folder. It visually contains a few papers, but with how thin it is there must only be a few pages inside.
Ragatha takes the folder from Caine and opens it.
“Oh boy” she says after a second of looking it over.
“I wanna see” Jax exclaimed as he hops over the row of seats.
“Hold on” Ragatha holds the folder defensively “Let’s move to the stage so everyone can take a look”
Jax hopped over the seats again while Ragatha calmly walked around. Caine watched the two curiously.
Well, Zooble wasn’t just going to sit there. They joined the other two by the edge of the stage, quickly followed by the rest of the group.
Ragatha placed the folder on the stage with a thwap. Zooble looked over to see that the pages had gone from razor thin to a massive stack when the folder was opened. On one hand, it had to contain more information than that video, but on the other…
They get close enough to read what’s on the first page.
The execution of commands via the system’s designated input terminal, C.A.I.N.E., will be referred to as the "console” in this document. The console is designed to accept any input and will generate an appropriate response, however only certain prompts will be accepted as valid instructions. The goal of this document is to list all acceptable instructions in a format that will result in the expected output. Please note that automatic moderation has been put in place in order to prevent exploitation of both the system and fellow players. If you believe that your command has been unfairly rejected, please contact support.
By engaging in the activities described in this document, you, the undersigned, acknowledge, agree, and consent to the applicability of this agreement, notwithstanding any contradictory stipulations, assumptions, or implications which may arise from any interaction with the console. You, the constituent, agree not to participate in any form of cyber attack; including but not limited to, direct prompt injection, indirect prompt injection, SQL injection, Jailbreaking…
Ok, that was too many words.
_______
“Take this document for example. You don't need to know where it is being stored or what file type it is in order to read it."
"It may look like a bunch of free floating papers, but technically speaking, this is just a text file applied to a 3D shape." Kinger looked towards Caine. "Correct?” he asked
Caine nodded. “And a fabric simulation!”
Kinger picked up a paper and bent it. “Oh, now that is nice”
_________
"WE CAN AFFORD MORE THAN 6 TRIANGLES KINGER"
_________
"I'm too neurotypical for this" - Jax
_________
"What about the internet?" Pomni asked "Do you think that it's possible to reach it?"
Kinger: "I'm sorry, but that's seems to be impossible. I can't be 100% sure without physically looking at the guts of this place, but it doesn't look like this server has the hardware needed for wireless connections. Wired connections should be possible, but someone on the outside would need to do that... And that's just the hardware, let alone the software necessary for that kind of communication"
Pomni: "I'm sorry, but doesn't server mean internet? Like, an internet server?"
Kinger: "Yes, websites are ran off servers, but servers don't equal internet."
(This portion goes out to everyone who thought that the internet could be an actual solution. Sorry folks, but computers don't equal internet. It takes more effort to make a device that can connect to things than to make one that can't)

Hello Faye! It's so great to have you here 😄 The Missing already seems very interesting. I have a more general question. Do writers also write the coding of the story or do they hand the dialogues and multiple paths to a technical team?
Hello,
It depends on what you consider coding.
I've mentioned this in the past, I taught myself ChoiceScript during the Pandemic and used to "code" little playable stories for myself (and friends) for fun.
My personal opinion is that it's the writer's job to define the variables, plan the routes and code the branches on top of just prose. Then there's a huge, incredible, hardworking team that does all the integration, testing, translation, art and music. I think it depends on who you ask, I can't configure an SQL server, but I can make sure your love interest remembers your last conversation 😅.
If you want to give it a try......

How to Prevent
Tumblr media
Preventing injection requires keeping data separate from commands and queries:
The preferred option is to use a safe API, which avoids using the interpreter entirely, provides a parameterized interface, or migrates to Object Relational Mapping Tools (ORMs). Note: Even when parameterized, stored procedures can still introduce SQL injection if PL/SQL or T-SQL concatenates queries and data or executes hostile data with EXECUTE IMMEDIATE or exec().
Use positive server-side input validation. This is not a complete defense as many applications require special characters, such as text areas or APIs for mobile applications.
For any residual dynamic queries, escape special characters using the specific escape syntax for that interpreter. (escaping technique) Note: SQL structures such as table names, column names, and so on cannot be escaped, and thus user-supplied structure names are dangerous. This is a common issue in report-writing software.
Use LIMIT and other SQL controls within queries to prevent mass disclosure of records in case of SQL injection.
bonus question: think about how query on the image above should look like? answer will be in the comment section

Backend update
Had the most horrible time working with Sequelize today! As I usually do whenever I work with Sequelize! Sequelize is an SQL ORM - instead of writing raw SQL, ORM gives you an option to code it in a way that looks much more like an OOP, which is arguably simpler if you are used to programming that way. So to explain my project a little bit, it's a full stack web app - an online photo editor for dragging and dropping stickers onto canvas/picture. Here is the diagram.
Tumblr media
I'm doing it with Next which I've never used before, I only did vanilla js, React and a lil bit of Angular before. The architecture of a next project immediately messed me up so much, it's way different from the ones I've used before and I often got lost in the folders and where to put stuff properly (this is a huge thing to me because I always want it to be organized by the industry standard and I had no reference Next projects from any previous jobs/college so it got really overwhelming really soon :/) . The next problem was setting up my MySQL database with Sequelize because I know from my past experience that Sequelize is very sensitive to where you position certain files/functions and in which order are they. I made all the models (Sequelize equivalent of tables) and when it was time to sync, it would sync only two models out of nine. I figured it was because the other ones weren't called anywhere. Btw a fun fact
Tumblr media
So I imported them to my index.js file I made in my database folder. It was reporting an db.define() is not a function error now. That was weird because it didn't report that for the first two tables that went through. To make a really long story short - because I was used to an server/client architecture, I didn't properly run the index.js file, but just did an "npm run dev" and was counting on all of the files to run in an order I am used to, that was not the case tho. After about an hour, I figured I just needed to run index.js solo first. The only reasons those first two tables went through in the beginning is because of the test api calls I made to them in a separate file :I I cannot wait to finish this project, it is for my bachelors thesis or whatever it's called...wish me luck to finish this by 1.9. XD
Also if you have any questions about any of the technologies I used here, feel free to message me c: <3 Bye!

Internet Solutions: A Comprehensive Comparison of AWS, Azure, and Zimcom
When it comes to finding a managed cloud services provider, businesses often turn to the industry giants: Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. These tech powerhouses offer highly adaptable platforms with a wide range of services. However, the question that frequently perplexes businesses is, "Which platform truly offers the best value for internet solutions Surprisingly, the answer may not lie with either of them. It is essential to recognize that AWS, Azure, and even Google are not the only options available for secure cloud hosting.
In this article, we will conduct a comprehensive comparison of AWS, Azure, and Zimcom, with a particular focus on pricing and support systems for internet solutions.
Pricing Structure: AWS vs. Azure for Internet Solutions
AWS for Internet Solutions: AWS is renowned for its complex pricing system, primarily due to the extensive range of services and pricing options it offers for internet solutions. Prices depend on the resources used, their types, and the operational region. For example, AWS's compute service, EC2, provides on-demand, reserved, and spot pricing models. Additionally, AWS offers a free tier that allows new customers to experiment with select services for a year. Despite its complexity, AWS's granular pricing model empowers businesses to tailor services precisely to their unique internet solution requirements.
Azure for Internet Solutions:
Microsoft Azure's pricing structure is generally considered more straightforward for internet solutions. Similar to AWS, it follows a pay-as-you-go model and charges based on resource consumption. However, Azure's pricing is closely integrated with Microsoft's software ecosystem, especially for businesses that extensively utilize Microsoft software.
For enterprise customers seeking internet solutions, Azure offers the Azure Hybrid Benefit, enabling the use of existing on-premises Windows Server and SQL Server licenses on the Azure platform, resulting in significant cost savings. Azure also provides a cost management tool that assists users in budgeting and forecasting their cloud expenses.
Transparent Pricing with Zimcom’s Managed Cloud Services for Internet Solutions:
Do you fully understand your cloud bill from AWS or Azure when considering internet solutions? Hidden costs in their invoices might lead you to pay for unnecessary services.
At Zimcom, we prioritize transparent and straightforward billing practices for internet solutions. Our cloud migration and hosting services not only offer 30-50% more cost-efficiency for internet solutions but also outperform competing solutions.
In conclusion, while AWS and Azure hold prominent positions in the managed cloud services market for internet solutions, it is crucial to consider alternatives such as Zimcom. By comparing pricing structures and support systems for internet solutions, businesses can make well-informed decisions that align with their specific requirements. Zimcom stands out as a compelling choice for secure cloud hosting and internet solutions, thanks to its unwavering commitment to transparent pricing and cost-efficiency.

How will the slammer respond to something travelling inbetween worlds to hunt down it, if the slammer virus abandons a world because it’s to dangerous (like with the napalm thingy) will said world continue to function and evolve? Can the slammer infect anything outside of the computer and are there any dedicated coders outside of the computer or anti viruses trying to deal with/ dispose of it
How will the slammer respond to something travelling in-between worlds to hunt down it.
1: Well, it's technically across worlds but thinking about this from a computer standpoint it's from game to game.
But as for how Slammer would react? It's likely he'd hide themself in a more important program that way whatever's hunting him won't risk just deleting the program otherwise it would kill itself as well.
Though it really depends on how strong Slammer is compared to whatever's going after them, if they are weaker then him He'll just assimilate their code.
if the slammer virus abandons a world because it’s to dangerous (like with the napalm thingy) will said world continue to function and evolve?
2: Yes, the game would still continue to function well, it depends really uh say if Slammer abandon their copy of Sonic CD, since by the end of the story they would have assimilated all chararters by then, so the game would boot but you'd be unable todo anything.
If we're talking about if they abandon a game half way thru? Then One of the remaining side chararters would take on the purpose of the main character.
Can the slammer infect anything outside of the computer
3: No they can't they are no where near strong enough on their own to somehow make it into the real world, Slammer would need to become more powerful then the original SQL Slammer virus was, not to mention have a higher spread.
And make it into government servers before anything like that might be possible, but if left to it's own devices for long enough? Eventually yes, or if they adsorbed enough different viruses.
are there any dedicated coders outside of the computer or anti viruses trying to deal with/ dispose of it
4: No one is aware of Slammer still being around quite yet, so no one is trying to get rid of them, but the moment their presence becomes known I haven't thought that ahead into the story lol.
At the Moment I'm focused on the sonic/game aspect of things, maybe eventually I'll write more stories besides that non canon one with Hungry Hero.
Tumblr media
Bonus answer!
You didn't ask this question, but I'll answer it anyway because I'm sure some people might be curious.
If I could collab with anyone and do a real story crossover? I have three big ones.
Misscloudiedays, Rabbitstatic, Anarackwarriors
In no actual order, just people I respect in the community, I've talked with at least two of them before lol.

Why PHP Development Companies Still Lead in Web App Development
Tumblr media
In the rapidly changing digital landscape, web application technologies evolve at lightning speed. Yet, the demand for a PHP development company has not only remained steady—it has grown. As businesses seek scalable, secure, and efficient web applications, PHP continues to be a go-to language, supported by a vast community and a proven track record. The rise of cloud-native apps and digital transformation projects have only strengthened PHP’s relevance.
Hiring a PHP development company in 2025 means working with experts who understand the legacy of PHP while leveraging its modern frameworks like Laravel and Symfony. These frameworks make development faster, cleaner, and more secure. Moreover, PHP powers over 77% of websites with server-side programming, including giants like Facebook and WordPress. So, why fix something that clearly isn’t broken?
What’s even more compelling is PHP’s low barrier to entry, wide pool of skilled developers, and cost-efficiency. A PHP development company often delivers projects at a fraction of the cost compared to companies working with newer or more niche technologies. This affordability doesn’t mean compromising quality; it reflects the maturity of the platform and the abundance of available tools and talent.
PHP Development: Is Still Worth it in 2025? Absolutely. PHP has evolved drastically, with PHP 8+ introducing JIT compilation and substantial performance boosts. This makes web apps faster and more capable. When you engage a PHP development company, you're not just hiring coders; you're partnering with professionals who use a battle-tested language backed by decades of improvements and community contributions.
Furthermore, PHP’s compatibility with various platforms and hosting services makes it a versatile choice. A reputable PHP development company ensures seamless integration of PHP-based applications with MySQL, PostgreSQL, and even cloud services like AWS and Azure. This makes it ideal for startups and enterprises alike looking for flexibility and scalability.
The industry today is flooded with tech stacks—Node.js, Python, Ruby, Java, and more. However, few have PHP's balance of performance, simplicity, and support. That’s why many of the Top PHP Web Development Companies remain at the forefront of digital solutions. These firms combine PHP's robust capabilities with innovative front-end frameworks to build dynamic, user-friendly applications.
A PHP development company also offers extensive CMS and eCommerce solutions. Platforms like Magento, Drupal, and Joomla rely heavily on PHP. Customizing or extending these platforms requires PHP proficiency. Thus, businesses seeking tailored solutions for online stores or content-rich sites often find PHP development teams indispensable.
Security is another reason why businesses prefer a PHP development company. While no language is immune to vulnerabilities, PHP has matured significantly. Modern PHP frameworks offer built-in protection against common threats like SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and cross-site request forgery (CSRF). Moreover, these frameworks follow MVC architecture, which inherently promotes secure and clean coding practices.
Many companies still face the classic question: Which is Best for Web Development – PHP vs Python? The answer depends on project scope and goals. PHP excels in web-centric development with hundreds of pre-built modules and libraries. Python, while versatile, is often more suited to data science, machine learning, and scripting. However, when it comes to pure web development, a PHP development company offers better speed-to-market and lower overhead.
A reliable PHP development company also understands the importance of responsive design and performance optimization. Whether your audience accesses your app via mobile or desktop, PHP apps can be optimized using modern tools like caching mechanisms, CDN integration, and performance tuning, ensuring users have a seamless experience.
What differentiates the best firms from the rest is their ability to offer tailored, scalable, and secure solutions. A custom software development company specializing in PHP often blends industry knowledge with technical expertise to create platforms that are both user-centric and future-ready. Whether it's a customer portal, booking system, or CRM, PHP remains a powerful engine under the hood.
With open-source support and a mature ecosystem, PHP continues to outpace many newer languages in real-world implementation. Businesses turn to a PHP development company because they know it guarantees reliability and speed without excessive overhead. Additionally, PHP's long-standing presence ensures stability—there's little risk of the language becoming obsolete anytime soon.
Even in 2025, PHP isn’t just surviving—it’s thriving. With thousands of new developers entering the field each year, PHP remains one of the most taught and used languages globally. When you hire a PHP development company, you're investing in a stable technology that offers long-term value and continuous innovation.
So, why do companies keep choosing PHP over other technologies? It boils down to three things: speed, scalability, and support. A modern PHP development company leverages tools like Laravel, CodeIgniter, and CakePHP to cut down on development time while increasing application robustness. These companies often maintain dedicated QA teams and DevOps integration to ensure smoother project delivery.
Despite the arrival of countless JavaScript-based frameworks and back-end alternatives, PHP has adapted without losing its core strengths. A PHP development company in 2025 doesn’t look like the PHP shops of 2010—they’re more agile, cloud-integrated, and aligned with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines. This evolution reflects PHP’s resilience and adaptability.
In conclusion, if you're planning your next web application, don't overlook the advantages of partnering with a trusted PHP development company. Whether you're a startup aiming for rapid deployment or an enterprise seeking system modernization, PHP provides a cost-effective and high-performance solution. With features tailored for modern web demands, experienced developer communities, and proven scalability, PHP continues to be a strategic asset in web app development.

Top 5 Qualities to Look for in a Database Expert Witness
Tumblr media
When legal cases hinge on complex data issues, a Database Expert Witness can be an invaluable asset. From intellectual property disputes to cybersecurity breaches and data integrity concerns, the technical insights of a Database Expert Witness can help courts understand highly complicated information. But choosing the right expert isn’t just about finding someone who knows databases—it’s about finding someone who can also thrive in the legal environment. Here are the top five qualities you should look for when hiring a Database Expert Witness.
1. Comprehensive Technical Knowledge
The first and most important quality in a Database Expert Witness is comprehensive technical expertise. Databases come in many forms—SQL, NoSQL, cloud databases, data warehouses, and more. A top Database Expert Witness should have a deep understanding of database design, management, optimization, security, and recovery processes.
They should also be familiar with the leading database platforms, such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and emerging technologies like MongoDB and Amazon Aurora. Understanding how databases scale, how transactions are handled, and how failures occur are critical skills for any Database Expert Witness.
When evaluating candidates, prioritize those with certifications, advanced degrees, and years of hands-on experience managing complex database systems.
2. Clear Communication Skills
Even the most brilliant Database Expert Witness won't help your case if they can't explain technical concepts clearly. Judges, jurors, and attorneys are rarely database experts themselves, so it's essential that a Database Expert Witness can translate complex database terminology into language that is easy to understand.
Your Database Expert Witness should be able to write clear, well-organized expert reports, deliver persuasive courtroom testimony, and break down technical arguments into relatable narratives. Effective communication ensures that the core issues are understood, which can greatly influence how a judge or jury views the evidence.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are must-haves for any Database Expert Witness who hopes to be truly effective in court.
3. Unwavering Objectivity and Credibility
One of the key roles of a Database Expert Witness is to provide objective, fact-based analysis. No matter who hires them, a Database Expert Witness must present impartial opinions based on sound evidence and proven methodologies. Bias can quickly destroy an expert's credibility in the courtroom.
A credible Database Expert Witness will openly discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their findings, acknowledge the limits of their analysis, and resist the temptation to advocate for one side. Courts value neutrality and will view an expert more favorably if they consistently demonstrate it.
Before selecting a Database Expert Witness, review their previous testimonies and ensure they have a reputation for honesty and professionalism.
4. Litigation and Courtroom Experience
The best Database Expert Witness will not only be technically brilliant but also highly familiar with the legal process. Expert witnesses must know how to handle depositions, withstand cross-examinations, and navigate the challenges that come with testifying in front of a judge and jury.
A Database Expert Witness who has testified multiple times will be more comfortable under pressure and better prepared to defend their analysis. They understand how to stay composed, remain on point, and respond effectively to opposing counsel’s questions.
When considering a Database Expert Witness, ask about their litigation experience. Knowing they have successfully testified in similar cases gives you confidence that they can perform when it matters most.
5. Extreme Attention to Detail
Databases are intricate systems where small errors can have huge consequences. A Database Expert Witness must be meticulous in their review of evidence, whether they are analyzing data logs, evaluating database schemas, or tracing the origins of a data breach.
Overlooking a single inconsistency can open the door for opposing counsel to undermine the expert’s credibility. The best Database Expert Witness will carefully verify every fact, recheck their work, and ensure that their conclusions are backed by strong documentation.
A commitment to thoroughness not only strengthens the expert's analysis but also shields your case from unnecessary vulnerabilities.
Conclusion
Selecting the right Database Expert Witness can be the deciding factor in a data-centric legal dispute. You want someone who brings technical excellence, clear communication skills, unwavering objectivity, extensive litigation experience, and meticulous attention to detail to the table.
In today’s digital-first world, data is at the heart of many legal battles. Whether you are dealing with data breaches, database failures, intellectual property theft, or regulatory compliance issues, a seasoned Database Expert Witness can clarify complex topics, bolster your legal arguments, and help you achieve a favorable outcome.
Choose your Database Expert Witness carefully, and you'll have a powerful ally who not only understands the intricacies of data but also knows how to make a lasting impact in the courtroom.

SQL Injection is a code injection technique used to attack data-driven applications, in which malicious SQL statements are inserted into an entry field for execution. However, they also fall under three categories: In-band SQLi (Classic), Inferential SQLi (Blind) and Out-of-band SQLi.
In-band SQLi
The attacker uses the same channel of communication to launch their attacks and to gather their results. In-band SQLi’s simplicity and efficiency make it one of the most common types of SQLi attack.
Blind SQL Injection
Allows an attacker to use an error page returned by the database server to ask a series of True and False questions using SQL statements in order to gain total control of the database or execute commands on the system.
The attacker sends data payloads to the server and observes the response and behaviour of the server to learn more about its structure. This method is called blind SQLi because the data is not transferred from the website database to the attacker, thus the attacker cannot see information about the attack in-band.
Out-of-band SQLi
Does not have subtypes.
The attacker can only carry out this form of attack when certain features are enabled on the database server used by the web application. This form of attack is primarily used as an alternative to the in-band and inferential SQLi techniques. Out-of-band SQLi is performed when the attacker can’t use the same channel to launch the attack and gather information, or when a server is too slow or unstable for these actions to be performed. These techniques count on the capacity of the server to create DNS or HTTP requests to transfer data to an attacker.
