very normal letterkenny conversation
Stuart: Draw thy tool! here comes two of the house of Hicks.
Roald: My naked weapon is out; quarrel, I will back thee.
Stuart: How! turn thy back and run?
Roald: Fear me not.
Stuart: No, marry; I fear thee!
Roald: Let us take the law of our sides; let them begin.
Stuart: I will frown as I pass by, and let them take it as they list.
Roald: Nay, as they dare. I will bite my thumb at them; which is a disgrace to them, if they bear it.
[Enter WAYNE and DARRYL]
Wayne: Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?
Roald: I do bite my thumb, sir.
Wayne: Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?
Roald: [Aside to STUART] Is the law of our side, if I say ay?
Stuart: No.
Roald: No, sir, I do not bite my thumb at you, sir, but I bite my thumb, sir.
Stuart: Do you quarrel, sir?
Wayne: Quarrel sir! no, sir.
Roald: If you do, sir, I am for you; I serve as good a man as you.
Wayne: No better.
Roald: Well, sir.
Stuart: Say 'better;' here comes your kin.
Roald: Yes, better, sir.
Wayne: You lie.
Roald: Draw, if you be men. Stuart, remember thy swashing blow.
[They fight]
[Enter KATY]
Katy: Part, fools! Put up your swords; you know not what you do.

Paul & Stu rivalry: A Compilation
"John knew Stuart was the group's weak link, but he didn't care: he wanted him along. It was the perfectionist Paul who found such an inexperienced guitarist hard to accept and this led to rows and even fights between him and Stuart. I think Paul was also a bit jealous of Stu; until then he had had most of John's attention." (Cynthia)
"Even though the girls loved Pete, Paul wasn’t really jealous of him. But he hated Stu.” In fact, everything Stuart did now seemed to enrage him.  And after years of excusing this travesty, suffering Stuart’s arrogance and capitulating to John’s apologies - still, Paul was forced to swallow his anger. It wasn’t just the music and the hair and the clothes. “It’s true that Paul had his eye on Stu’s bass,” Dot says, “but in fact, he was jealous of Stu, especially Stu’s friendship with John.” What’s more, Stuart flaunted it. Time and again, he put it under Paul’s nose and gave it a scornful swish."-Bob Spitz, (recounting Dot's comments on the subject)
"I have known in my heart for many years that Stuart and John had a sexual relationship but to protect my mother I kept my counsel about it although everything I knew, personally and professionally, pointed towards it. And, with hindsight, it was a lovely happening: two lost boys who needed and found each other. [...] I’ve wondered many times over the years if that’s what some of the antagonism between Stuart and Paul might have been about, whether Paul suspected something [between John and Stu]. None of us directly connected to the Beatles have publicly acknowledged that John had less than conventional sexual attachments." (Pauline Stutcliffe)
"It's true I didn't care for Stu, but I wasn't against him personally. He just couldn't play bass. That was all there was to it. I had a functional, ambitious-for-the-group sort of objection to him. He knew he couldn't play. (Paul)
Sure, Paul. It was just bacause he couldn't play bass.
Also Paul:
"We’d had a few ding-dongs, partly out of jealousy for John’s friendship. We all rather competed for John’s friendship, and Stuart, being his mate from art school, had a lot of his time and we were jealous of that.” -Paul
“When he came into the band, around Christmas of 1959, we were a little jealous of him; it was something I didn’t deal with very well. We were always slightly jealous of John’s other friendships. He was the older fellow; it was just the way it was. When Stuart came in, it felt as if he was taking the position away from George and me. We had to take a bit of a back seat. -Paul
"He and I used to have a deadly rivarly. I don’t know why. He was older and a strong friend of John’s. When I look back on it, I think we were probably fighting for John’s attention. He was older and John was a year older than me, and that year makes a hell of a lot of difference at the age of eighteen. So I wasn’t such a big friend of Stuart’s."
“Looking back on it now, I think it was little tinges of jealousy because Stu was John’s friend. There was always a little jealousy because Stuart was John’s friend. He was like the guy you aspired to.”-Paul
-----------------------------------------
I love how Paul says "we were jealous", instead of "I was jealous". Typical. George, for example, whom Paul mentions when discussing the rivalry for John’s attention, never expressed any kind of jealousy towards Stuart. In fact, he once said, "Stuart was cool. He was great-looking and had a great vibe about him, and was a very friendly bloke. I liked Stuart a lot; he was always very gentle".
