LIZARD BOY

Hi, fun fact, I have not listened to it. Hell, I haven’t even heard of it. So this first recommendation is gonna be FUN. 

After reading a quick synopsis, I have come up with some recommendations (all of which I have not listened to and totally basing this off of what I know from these musicals, which is not alot).

When I read the synopsis for Lizard Boy, I immediately went “Be More Chill”, not one my personal faves (but that’s also to do with the fanbase. and i’m just not a fan of the music which is fine). But many people think it’s great, and it has George Salazar!!!!! And is written by Joe Iconis (who also wrote TLT)!!!!!!  this musical follows either one or two high school boys who idk struggle with social life until this weird magical Squip thing comes along which is like a computer in their brain that makes them super duper mega cool. Things probably go wrong at some point because what would a story be without its drame 

Another musical i want to recommend that touches on the weird horror, mutant, comical aspect of Lizard Boy: Little Shop of Horrors. A dark comedy featuring a man eating plant with I think a rock score. Haven’t listened to it yet, but reading the synopsis it gave me the same vibe as Lizard Boy. Plus, it’s a man eating plant! who doesn’t like that!

And this next musical I have actually listened to (ikr) and though the story or plot or any of the elements is not at ALL like Lizard Boy, it does feature a somewhat indie rock score (i think it’s officially a rock opera) so if you want another rock musical, may I recommend: SIX. SIX is a West-End based musical in which 6 women rant about their husband. I should probably say they had the same husband, and that this husband is none other than …. HENRY THE VIII. yeah, it’s a musical about Henry’s famous six wives, told from their perspective and it is absolutely awesome. Killer vocals, killer songs and the 6 most supportive women you will ever meet, which is funny because they all dated the same man. Definitely worth listening to in general, this musical is what feminism should be.

The annual RATINGS ARE DYING panic put in scale.

Gonna put this behind a cut but enjoy two annual displays of the CW lineup, atop everything in my #ratings tag that essentially has already ELI-5′ed the truth of the death of general primetime classic television just in case you’re capable of googling “the death of network TV” or “the decline of tv ratings”

Please note, “True” is an adjusted metric which runs immediately parallel to the demos we’re used to seeing but recognizes the impact of days and timeslots across the board. If you want to grab the raw demos, this will pan out pretty much the same each year too, this is just the easiest available chart for people to start bending their brains around the reality of the situation. And before ANYBODY starts bitching about this chart, whatsoever, because of “True”, please mind that using True ACTUALLY COMPLIMENTS ANTI AND RATINGS HYSTERIA BETTER THAN THE RAW DEMOS DO.

Because if you just check out raw values like here,the 2017-2018 0.8 point for the Flash (as shown even in true) was already 25% down. But SPN while in True last year was a 0.63 (below), the actual season average in raw demo was 0.55. Whereas now it’s 0.42 (while true adjusts it to 0.38) 

Shock. SPN fell 24%~ in raw demo and Flash fell 16%~ in raw demo.

But ratings are way more complicated than that, hence adjustments like True, which you can see below.

Onoes. SPN only has a 0.38 and last year it was HIGHER.

Hm let’s check out last year.

Soooo Flash is down 0.21 already while still being the front runner on the line. And that's... over a 26% loss on the CW’s TOP RUNNER. Literally, front of the pack, has been the whole time, has been for years. And, still holding the #1 spot on the network, it dropped 26%.

In fact, Riverdale shot way UP the list by... only... losing... 0.08 so far? It went from #5 to #2 by losing ONLY almost a whole 0.1. By ONLY losing 15.4%. It shot up THREE SPOTS by ONLY losing over 15%. Let's wrap our skulls around that for a second.

So yeah, sure, SPN dipped pretty far. But somewhere amidst this hysteria, arm flailing and vomiting through tears of stan rage, people lost sight of the fact of how SPN has been performing exceptionally above what anyone recognized, because every FUCKING year some fuckwat stan starts yelling that it’s dying because ratings were “down.” Because ratings everywhere on every network for every show go down. Nobody sat here recognizing what a powerhouse for the network SPN has been for years. So sure, SPN lost more than 25%. Hell, it lost 42% in true. And it’s STILL. RUNNING. TOP GAME. ON. THE. NETWORK.

Arrow climbed from 8th to 6th by ONLY losing 0.11. Remember when I said “be careful mocking Arrow, because (during S13) it’s line is where original S2-3 SPN’s ratings would pan out in modern translation”? Yeah, well, it resisted losses better this year, it’s line is now above original SPN threshold. So is current SPN. But the gap narrowed a little bit.

When I talk about the fact that SPN slid a bit, but not as badly as people are armwaving about in ratings-dumb panic, that’s what I mean. Because SPN has been performing well above and beyond original standard for fucking YEARS. It’s like bitching that your high performance vehicle racked up mileage and isn’t getting the same MPG as it used to anymore. No fucking shit, sherlock. But it’s still running strong and getting you were you need to go and you’re not blowing out tires. And this is WITH the season taking a hit with the premiere being ravaged by Hurricane Michael and panning a minimum 0.1 beneath where it would have otherwise.

So by raw demo SPN fell as much this year as Flash fell in raw demo last year, but in True, this year Flash fell more in true than SPN fell in raw demo, but SPN’s true looks worse.

I know that’s a brain bending sentence, but that’s just it. There is an entire whirlwind of impacts here. 

But even if you just look at RAW RESULTS of the TOP LEADERBOARD on the CW, no true, no plus, no anything, 

Highlighted in red are all the things that fell at a harder downturn than SPN did. Three new shows can’t be highlighted but their slots match the result. Half the network bombed out harder, half the network lost... less. SPN is smack in the middle of that in losses/gains. SPN holds its spot. Everything else jacked down or up, with the exception of a few, which is where this gets vivid as fuck.

Flash, still running #1, fell over 16% in raw 18-49 and Riverdale actually climbed because it... only lost 6% in raw 18-49. Only. It shot up three places by ONLY losing six percent. I can’t cite that enough. I’m going to beat that into your skulls. It shot up three rankings for ONLY losing over six percent demo.

Has that sunk in yet?

Lmao they’re listing Dynasty in green for losing less than 1% in a season they’re finally advertising it during big shows LIKE Supernatural and The Flash because CBS is really trying to save it while it scrapes the bottom of even their cancellation line and it makes them a fuckton of money on Netflix in 188 countries.

Here, Arrow is considered running fourth. By... only losing just under 12%. It catapulted up from seventh on this raw listing. By “only” losing about 12%. That’s a three slot climb. 

What you’re seeing is SPN returning to the same performance line as seasons 4, 5, and 8. That’s it. That’s above the performance line of 1, 2, 3, 7. I remove 6 because while like 7 it was on fridays, it didn’t crash out like season 7 did, which was below the value it should have performed at timeslot ASIDE.

That’s it.

If you’ve ever given into the “ratings are dying” delirium of S 9-13, I’m going to be cackling at anyone who thinks this is some sort of crippling ratings death right now. Nah fam. SPN, one year finally, took the same level of hit the vast majority of the network does every single year, rather than absolutely resisting it against logic. For years SPN has only fallen at 1/2 the rate of everything else around it and the one year it falls in tandem everybody’s up in arms yelling on stan twitter about Their Reasons.

And if you think this is like, just a CW thing, just review my Ratings Master Post because that’s so hilariously cracked out, I can’t even be arsed to repeat it.

Congrats, you guys have found one season of SPN that isn’t a super mega ultra duper super hit for the CW out of the gate, and just a hit. Congrats, you have one year where it slipped a little bit. Emphasis on a little bit. Emphasis on a variety of elements that have impacted this too. (hurricane michael? Increased digital marketing? lack of major press coverage? Cancellation of a spinoff concept that brought in new fans and new press coverage? Don’t know her.) If you think for a second it’s because your fave is “neglected” somehow or whatever the fuck the stan twitter excuse of the day is, you’re so far off the reservation already you won’t even allow yourself to see the basic common sense in this post.

As always, SPN is fine.

Concert stories and whatnot

My life goal? Be super duper mega extra wealthy so I can go to concerts. Hehe. Saying that I love music is an understatement. It's been my dream to watch my favorite bands and artists perform live since I was a kid. My family is not rich and when I was younger, I missed a lot of shows, promised myself that I will save up so I can buy tickets.

When I finally had the job and money, I started going to concerts, most of the time I go solo because my friends dont like the genre of music that I'm listening to. Hahaha not really bothered being alone, actually, its my thing to go to concerts on my own. It feels so awkward when I'm with someone. Hehe its like they are invading my happy place 🤣

2016 was the year that I officially became a concert goer. First concert was In The Mix :) it was in Mall of Asia Arena. I was in the Gen Ad section, alone, but super happy! I watched Panic! At The Disco, The 1975, James Bay, Third Eye Blind, and Elle King in one night! Since then, I made sure to watch all my faves. That same year, I saw Mayday Parade for the first time! I also got lost going to December Avenue's first ever concert in Greenhills. I'm just really glad that I was able to go home safe.

Going to unknown places and being alone didn't stop me from going to concerts. In 2017, I attended local gigs and music fests like UP Fair, Nalu in Baler and Rakrakan Fest. I also saw Mayday Parade for the second time that year. Also had the chance to join All Time Low and Liam Gallagher's Tour.

2018 was jampacked, I attended a lot of concerts, 5 of which are foreign acts: Incubus (all time faveeeee), One OK Rock, Paramore, Dua Lipa, and Panic! At The Disco (2nd time!!! And I'm in the VIP area!!!). Also went to Rakrakan and Threadfest. One of the best years of my life!

But 2019 was a different story, I didn't go to a single concert because a lot happened and I'm not a huge fan of the artists/bands who had their shows. I was looking forward to 2020 because at the last quarter of 2019, most of my faves announced their world tours.

By January 2020, I have 5 concerts on my list but they are either postponed or canceled now because of covid. 😭😭😭😭😭 I was super excited to see Avril Lavigne, I became an instant fan the first time I watched and listened Complicated! She is my childhood queen and model. She is all I ever wanted to be, a cool rockstar.

Haysssss Slipknot's concert was also postponed! Been waiting for them to have a tour but they also rescheduled their visit here in Ph. I already bought a ticket to One OK Rock, I would've seen them twice if this pandemic didnt happen. Hayssss I also have tickets to Green Day and Boys Like Girls but I have to wait for a couple months again because they moved their tours next year.

I miss that happy feeling when you are singing with the band and the crowd. You don't know each other but somehow you are all connected because you are enjoying the same music. It may sound weird but when I'm in a concert, it's like my problems are non existent. I never tried drugs but I think I've exprienced that "high" feeling already. Cant wait for this pandemic to be over so I can go to concerts again! I still have a lot of artists and bands in my concert goal list.

Can we like...destroy the idea that you need some super-duper extra special grand reason for living. Like sometimes that happens, and that’s great!! But sometimes the reasoning is so small.  You can be on the edge and then remember that a new episode of your favorite show comes out next week that you just have to watch, and it’s just as valid as something like “my little brother would be lost without me” or something similar.

At the beginning of high school I was going through Some Shit, and one thing that that really helped me out was Smosh.  Like the fucking YouTube channel (now turned mega cooperation or something, I haven’t watched them in forever).  But for awhile it was their videos that kept me going, since it was stupid humor that kept my mind of things.  Sometimes I feel embarrassed about it but you know what, fuck it.  Any reason for living is a good reason.  Self care can be messy and jagged and gross, so if the smallest thing keeps you going, like a movie that’s coming out soon or your fave band is about to drop an album or fuck, if you’re waiting for a fanfic update, anything, it 100% perfectly valid and I’m proud of you.

I hope this doesn't sound bratty, but I was wondering how to get more notes or kudos on fics? I'm starting to get really discourage...

Aw man, no, not bratty at all! Much as I’d love to say “psssh the numbers don’t matter,” or “be sure to appreciate every single note because it means somebody read your stuff!” (which is true) I know exactly how frustrating it can be to see maybe one or two notes or kudos (tops!) on the story you spent ages writing. To that end, I have some super duper cynical advice, and then I have some more genuine advice, and both are really based on the fact that, once you hit a certain baseline level of coherence, the quality of the writing has almost nothing to do with the number of notes or kudos it gets.

Here’s the super duper cynical advice that probably applies to almost all major fandoms: write the most popular ship. Most of the time, it’ll be super easy to spot! Find the fandom fave character, who by complete coincidence is almost always the most conventionally attractive and whitest dude on the show, even if he’s a relatively minor character. Does he have a close male friend that the actors and producers constantly joke/hint might be something more? Write ‘em together! Is there a female character who may or may not be a love interest but seems to be heading in that direction? Write ‘em together! In all cases, though, make sure that the fandom fave is the center of the story, and that his female love interest/less-conventionally-attractive and/or less-white male love interest is mostly there as a means of providing support for the fandom fave’s angst. Better yet, create a villain who opposes the ship and must be defeated: an inexplicably vicious revenge-driven canon female love interest is a common choice when writing m/m fic, and an unexpected betrayal by the female character’s best friend that sends her straight into the fandom fave’s arms is a common choice when writing m/f fic. Write slow-burn fic with a vanilla sex scene at the end. Scene.

…it hurt to write that. Listen, it’s undeniable that there’s some amazing and creative and thoughtful stuff out there for these mega-pairings, and if that’s what floats your boat, by all means, go for it (I’ve shipped and written for mega-pairings, goodness knows), but it’s also kinda important to keep in mind that the way these mega-pairings come about and the way they tend to be written most commonly can be… not good—some of that’s on the show-creators’ end, some of that’s on fandom’s end, and it’s all a mess. But if you just want notes, go ahead and write that to the exclusion of all else (just please try to keep away from the more actively offensive trends, whatever you write?). You’re more likely to get picked up by the big-name fans, because they probably became the big-name fans by writing that stuff themselves.

Here’s the more genuine advice: there’s an element of randomness to what does and doesn’t get picked up by the internet, and once it happens to you one time, it’s more likely to happen again. Here’s some more of the genuine advice: passion shows. If you’re passionate about a teeny-tiny little pairing or no pairing at all, you’re way, way, way more likely to write an enjoyable and likeable story than if you force yourself to write the big, popular stuff. You might put out a dozen fics that get virtually no attention, but if you keep producing quality stuff that lights a fire under you, that thirteenth could well get picked up and reblogged by someone with a sizeable following, or appear on somebody’s rec list, and then your backlog will be the delight of all. Try new things. Have fun.

There’s also been, over the past five years or so, a slow-growing fatigue with the old model I mentioned up in the super duper cynical advice paragraph. Fandom is changing, slowly but surely, and is starting to push back against its more distasteful elements. You see it pretty frequently now: conventional fandom-fave-ship fics will reliably pull in a lot of notes, but every now and then something completely off-the-wall and creative and brilliant will resonate with everyone at once and it’ll pull in a lot of notes. That happens. Take note when it does, because that’s the way fandom’s slowly shifting, and that’s nothing but a good sign.

I mean, heck, I write mostly PG-13-rated genfic focusing on female characters and femslash, which isn’t exactly most fandoms’ favorite thing; I went through a very, very, very long drought in terms of support and interest when I started writing, and the only thing that kept me going was that I genuinely loved what I was writing. For whatever specific numbers are worth, for me and my relatively small- to medium-sized fandoms, it took slowly climbing to a four-digit follower count on tumblr and a three-digit subscription count on AO3 to ensure any sort of reliable interest in the stories I wrote, no matter the content. How do you get there? Reblog the stuff you like. Create in other ways, if you can–fanart, gifsets. Make shorter meta posts that require less effort on your part but might get people’s wheels turning in a familiar way. Review other people’s fics. If you’re participating in the community, it makes it a lot easier to maybe convince people to try reading something that might be a little outside of their usual wheelhouse. You gotta be having fun, first and foremost, or else what’s the point? And it’s marvelous when you pull in someone new. One of my favorite things is getting comments on a post that start with “I literally never read genfic, but…” Most of all, try to communicate how grateful you are when something like that happens. It’s so important to let people know how much it means to you that they took an interest in your passion.

Anyway, this is all really rambly and I hope some of it makes sense. I’m sorry you’re feeling discouraged, but I hope you stick with what you’re doing, because goodness knows fandom could always use more variety!

This is a brand I have not heard about previously but I really want to get into using oils in my beauty regime. specially as my hair really needs it lately as our water softener was broken so that along with dying my hair lighter has severely killed it. I actually already have the full size of this highlighter but haven't used it for a while, and I'm not sure why. But this is one of my favorite highlighters. My favorite way to wear this highlighter is putting Milk highlighting stick on first then layering the Urban Decay Afterglow highlighter on top so it's even more blinding.

I swatched it on the back of my hand in the video, then fell asleep and it was still looking perfect when I woke up as I forgot to take it off. Plus then I went in the shower and it lasted through that until I took a makeup wipe to it. So it's claim of being waterproof and budge proof is very true! I'm going to get myself more of these eyeliners in the future. Plus it just glides on your eyes effortlessly.
