The only surviving gold laurel leaf from Napoleon’s coronation crown. The crown was destroyed by the coalitions during the Bourbon Restoration, along with all the other regalia made for the coronation.
Napoleon had deemed the gold laurel wreath too heavy to wear, so the goldsmith, Martin-Guillaume Biennais, removed six leaves and gave them to his daughters. This is one of those leaves. The other 5 are lost. The crown worn to the coronation had 44 large leaves, 42 loose seeds and twelve smaller leaves.
