I posted the videos separately already, but since all three Sam & Cat videos have now been released, here's all twenty hours in one post. The other compilation post is here, and if you haven't read Jennette's book already, please do.

I’ve been rewatching Quinton Reviews Sam & Cat videos and can’t stop thinking about a way the show runners could have written it better without completely changing the plot. So heres my really long take on how Sam & Cat could have been made into a half decent spin-off of iCarly and Victorious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- I understand that the creators were dead set on keeping Ariana on Nickelodeon, so as much as I would have loved the show of just Sam, let’s keep them both.
- I’d say the show starts in a similar way to the original, with Sam riding Spencer’s old motorcycle wherever it takes her and eventually ending up in Hollywood. Cat has recently graduated from high school, but hasn’t figured out exactly what she wants to do yet. I’d still go with the plot of her Nona having to leave for an elderly home, and now that Cat is an adult she’s going to have to find her own place to stay. We’ll say that Nona has some sort of health issue so she doesn’t seem like a dick for leaving Cat without somewhere to live.
- I’m not entirely sure how I’d have the 2 meet, but maybe at a fast food restaurant. Sam is low on money from how long she’s been traveling, and Cat sees this and helps out by paying. They’d recognize each other from when they met in the crossover because fuck you I’m making that canon. This means that they’re not close yet, but they do have a base line of trust in the other person since they’re not total strangers.
- The girls get to talking about what’s happened since they first briefly met at the house party, giving a recap to the audience that doesn’t feel too exposition-y, as well as filling in the gaps from Victorious’s lack of finale. Sam admits that she doesn’t have a place to stay for the night and Cat offers the couch at her Nona’s house for her to sleep on, but warns her that she only has a few days left before Nona leaves and the house is sold.
- Sam agrees, and they end up talking that night again before going to sleep. Sam asks where Cat is going to go once Nona’s house is sold, and Cat says she’s been looking at apartments but isn’t sure if she can afford any of them for long, and is worried about living alone. Realizing that they’re in similar predicaments, Sam suggests they move in together for a short time and she can help pay with what money she has left until they both get back on their feet. Heart warming scene blah blah blah, I don’t know to write.
- They find an apartment, move their things in and manage to just scrape by the first payment. And the apartment looks way too good for something two unemployed 18 year olds could afford in California, but it’s a kids sitcom so who cares. Sam and Cat realize they’re going to have to start working a lot in order to keep living there, and that’s where the pilot would vaguely end. Very brief layout, but it sets up the main ideas.
- One of my biggest issues with the actual Sam and Cat is that neither of them would ever have babysat in their original shows. Sam legally can’t and clearly hates it, and Cat is basically a child herself. So the silly gag of the show would be the crazy jobs they get to make money. These could be together or apart and could even last over multiple episodes. It would be infinitely more entertaining than the BS babysitting episodes. That’s a very low bar though.
- Dice and Goomer could still easily be in the show, as a tween coaching an MMA boxer is a funny bit, and then the show could still work when the latter comes back in Henry Danger. Maybe they could meet when Sam gets a job at a boxing ring due to her skills in violently assaulting people! Herb would be there too as Sam and Cat’s next door neighbor in the apartment, and everytime we catch a glimpse inside his house it’s really beautiful and lavish.
- Even though it’s a Nickelodeon show, I want to stretch it to have some actual good character development and such. The show would end with Sam being a guidance counselor (or knowing that she wants to be one and working to get there) like her original solo show was going to do, and Cat being some sort of entertainer. Admittedly I haven’t quite nailed hers down yet, but it would be something that spreads positivity and creativity which is a lot of Cats character. Pop star is probably the best option, and it would cause more traffic towards Ariana Grande’s music career, as well as fans of her music wanting to see the show (this would be in 2013 when her career was first really popping off). I kind of imagine the vibe of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu with her cute but weird aesthetic, and watching Cat grow that style and branding from all the other jobs she worked would be great.
- Speaking of Cat, her stupid infantilization from the end of Victorious would be extremely toned down. Maybe not season 1 era Cat since she was less recognizable and marketable, but a mix between her and season 4 Cat. Not everything she owns is pink and frilly and she acts like an immature, whimsical teenager rather than a 7 year old. Realistically, season 4 Cat would not get along with any interaction of Sam written in character. I’d also tone down the voice she uses and give her a different hair style, as the same curls in every episode are not my favorite.
- Throughout the show both girls would grow and change and learn from each other. Sam can learn to be more caring and emotionally available from Cat, who is so extremely positive and open, while Cat can learn how to be more assertive of her needs from Sam who always stands up for her beliefs. Sam could also teach Cat how to grow her music career online thanks to her time on iCarly which is rarely ever mentioned in the original show.
- Both characters had really bad home lives, so seeing them bond over that and make their home together a safe space would be really nice. An episode could center around Sam feeling uncomfortable now that she has an actual steady home for the first time in years, since for her teen years she was constantly swapping between her own home and Carly’s. Similarly, Cat might have to work through strange tendencies she’d developed as a safety mechanism in the past due to her brother being less than stable. For example, Cat hiding food (something a lot of traumatized kids do) could kick start Sam realizing that she herself has a problem with binge eating, and work on recovery so both she and Cat can have healthy relationships around food.
- At the end of the show that would last 2-3 seasons tops, the girls would realize that they’ve both found the respective careers they want to pursue for the rest of their lives, and say goodbye to each other. The overall goal of the show would to be tying off these characters stories in a way that’s still funny but shows the struggles of coming into young adulthood. Probably wouldn’t be wacky and zany enough for Nickelodeon to care about though LMAO
- If this was truly my ideal rendition of a post iCarly and Victorious spin off, Cat wouldn’t even be in it. This would be the original Sam show that got scrapped. But because of the circumstances, this is the best idea I could come up with that keeps the same vague structure while being appropriate to the casts ages- it is so obvious that those girls were not 16, and both still being in school was extremely clunky in the original show. Genuinely all I’d want to see is a spin off on a different network where it’s just Sam working through her trauma and improving as a person, but Nick can’t put a laugh track over that so this is my attempt at something that could MAYBE slide with them.
- Also make the set equal to both lead actors and change that fuck ass theme song. With my idea something nice is that there could be solo episodes or ones light on one character. This way if Ariana was dead set on going to the perform at the Billboard Music Awards (which like yeah girl I would to), an episode could focus on Sam’s job of the week and be light on Cats. Rather than, yknow, trapping Cat in a box. I feel so bad for Jeanette, dude😭
This was really just a fun thought experiment, I guess my Women in Lit class is getting to me. I see a lot of people reminiscing on Sam & Cats friendship, but even as a kid I didn’t really love their dynamic. It had always felt kind of stilted because the way they wrote the girls didn’t make them feel all that compatible. But making them into semi-mature adults could do wonders for that. I just needed to put my thoughts down before my mind drifts so something else pointless. If you’ve read this far you’re fucking weird <3

quiet on set already came out? I'll have to watch it when I have the time tomorrow. I can already tell this documentary is going to be to nickelodeon what blackfish was to seaworld and what super size me was to McDonald's. their reputation will never recover after this, and honestly? I have no sympathy for the higher ups who stood by and did nothing about dan and his creepy associates.

Do all these doppelgangers exist in the same universe?
We already know that victorious and icarly exist in the same universe and that shelby marx and tori exist in the same universe (which also means that andre and his doppelganger harper exist in the same universe) but since stacy from zoey 101 appears in icarly and sam and cat does that mean that lola martinez and rabecca and trisha kirby (trina and sam's doppelgangers) exist in the same universe as well as carly's doppelganger? (I forgot the name of the character miranda cosgrove played in zoey 101 i think it might have been paige)
But zoey 101 is a tv show in victorious is that just a plothole?
And there's also an icarly video where victoria justice appears as herself so maybe zoey 101 is a show in this universe and she plays lola both in real life and in this universe
