i’m sorry, if jessica died when she was 15, and she’s 6 years older than lockwood, and she died 6 years before he showed lucy and george her room at the end of the whispering skull, which takes place the june after the november of the screaming staircase, which is 6 months after lucy joins the agency, and george joined a year before her, that means that he was 15 when he showed them the room, 14 when lucy joins the agency, and 13!! when george does. he was either like 12 or 13 when he started the agency. i thought they were like 16 screaming staircase and 18 by the end of it this is so weird

I’ve always loved medicine bc it’s the perfect intersection of science and humanity—the two things I value above all else in this world. Truly adored it since I was in the cradle. But now I’m thinking about how so much of my journey to neurosurgery will have to involve KILLING my feelings essentially bc how do you survive otherwise

#Not to mention the surprisingly high suicide rate of surgeons that’s been brought to my attention lately #Honestly I just started my neuro internship and just saw my first patient in clinic #And on the day I did I was critical of my neurologist for being so robotic about it #Now I can see why #I’m still at a point where I can’t even do a chart review for a patient without feeling so fucking sad #And I can see how that can get unsustainable after a while #But it’s like if I kill the feelings that drive my passion for medicine to begin with then what’s the point #It’s not like I’m in it for the money or prestige bc that’s so dumb considering how long the schooling is #But literally how to deal #My supervisors at the clinic very much all speak about the dementia patients w a learned impartialness #But I don’t wanna be that way one day :( but how to be anything else and still survive #I’m pre med so I still have time and maybe my opinion will change and I’ll wanna do another specialty #But when it comes to this every specialty will involve human lives and navigating that regardless #That said I can see why surgeons are at higher risk or depression suicide etc #The whole point of this internship is to teach myself how to navigate this stuff but. Hate it #p #med tag

#ruffled feathers #sometimes work is so fucking frustrating #like i had this one kid hit another kid and then when i told him off he just mocked me and then the entire class laughed #and like. there's nothing i can do. i can't send him out of the classroom bc i'm not allowed (there's nowhere to send him)#i can't call his parents bc i'm not allowed (and my japanese wouldn't be good enough to speak to them anyway)#i told him he couldn't join in the game and he just didn't care. spent the game throwing stuff at other kids + ruined it for everyone #then he shoved some crayons up his nose/in his ears and started running around #which is. y'know. REALLY FUCKING DANGEROUS so i can't just ignore it #when i spoke to the japanese teacher she was like 'ohh he has adhd' and i'm like ??? he assaults others. that's NOT bc of adhd #i don't work at a school i work at an eikaiwa. i'm the only staff member on location (no assistant no receptionist etc)#i have 11 kids in that class. most of them are 6-7 years old #and the japanese teacher just lets them do what they want most of the time so it's basically impossible to control them #i just. i fucking hate this classroom honestly. the kids are so disrespectful #i know it's not just me like everyone i've spoken to says it's a Problem Classroom #but also. it makes me feel like i'm a bad teacher bc i can't control the kids #it makes me feel like i should just quit my job bc obviously i'm bad at it #anyway i'm really not looking for advice here i'm just venting so please spare me the 'have you tried' messages #i've already asked my supervisor and senpais for advice and the general consensus is we need more staff #and also for the jt to not actually tolerate 7-year-olds behaving like 2-year-olds #delete later

today at work we had our first SLP meeting of the school year and they all looked at the schedule i built for my caseload and were like "hey did you know this schedule is so busy your life will be hell??? we are gonna fix this for you." and i said okay thank you yes please.

#funnily enough i didn't realize it was that bad #but that's because i haven't actually started seeing all these kids yet #and i haven't had to do paperwork yet #they assured me it would suck majorly though #one of the SLPs is out this week so they're all gonna help me fix it (by taking some students) next week when she's back #ngl i feel so lucky to have literally five other SLPs on site that i can talk to and they're all so nice #some SLPs right out of grad school don't have anyone on site with them #like their clinical fellowship supervisor just has to drive in to visit sometimes #which sounds horrible so i'm very glad i have basically the opposite situation #j.txt

#work was HELL #just complete and utter chaos and i have never seen this shift supervisor so stressed #the computers were all down and so were all the registers except one at any given time #we spent a good portion givibg away stuff for free because we couldn’t ring people up #the tickets weren’t printing so we had to go old school with pen and paper #everything was a mess #it was the most chaotic shift i’ve ever experienced

i just need the job that i was laid off from and everything would be fine. a simple give me my job back would fix me

#i was literally in talks with my supervisor about getting another promotion before the week i was let go for budgetary reasons #my whole life paused the minute i was called into that meeting with the director of ops #what am i supposed to do. find a new future? don't tell me that's all i can do #(i know it's all i can do. and it wasn't the best place to work. i just miss belonging somewhere)#(i know finding belonging at work is dicey. i was just a kid who was great at school)#(and being great at school was a way to protect myself from anything bad happening to me at school)#(but then i wasn't in school anymore. so i was great at work as a way to protect myself from anything bad happening to me at work)#(and being great at work didn't protect me. so now i feel like i'm in freefall constantly because my perception of safety shattered)#(and this is something i don't see talked about when people talk about layoffs or the job market right now)#(and marketing is not a safe industry to be in but that's where my experience is and idk how to get out)#(i've been standing still for a year. that's what it feels like. and i'm so anxious about not living my life)#(AHHH)

so they put me on the project website with like a little profile thing along with the other doctoral candidates and not only do I have to deal with TELEOST GONADAL TISSUE right over a picture of my face I also did a bit of lurking on the other doctoral candidates and now I feel like some kind of weird underdog pity hire bc all these other people were working at research institutions in this exact subject or in one case already a full ass veterinarian for years before getting accepted onto this project and I was basically a glorified babysitter giving out cat stickers for learning fractions for $17/hr before coming here. and we have to make presentations about ourselves for both the germany and sweden courses we're going to where we have to talk about all this stuff and they're gonna have a massive list of qualifications and experience and then I'm gonna go up there like 🤷🏻‍♀️ look man I dunno. I've never even had a lab job.

#like mr boss clearly saw something in me to bring me on #but theres a mandatory meeting at the end of the german summer school #thats meant to assess the eligibility of the doctoral candidates #and im gonna be sooooooo real bro im not feeling eligible #im such a fuckin waster compared to the rest of these people and i feel like its my supervisors reputation also on the line!!#cause everyone will be like okay what exactly were you thinking picking this one out of 65 applicants. explain that.

Had a dream where I was back in high school in a math class and my teacher was just. Incredibly disrespectful about my identity/pronouns. So I swapped to the other math class section with a different teacher

And new teacher didn’t use my pronouns either, but it still felt better. And then someone broke my desk. And someone asked me if I made the right choice swapping, because neither teacher used my pronouns, right? And I just had this moment of such clarity, of, “yeah, he doesn’t use my pronouns. He doesn’t always use the right name. But you know what? He’s angry someone broke my desk, and I know that if he finds out who it was, they would be in trouble. And it wouldn’t be like that with the other teacher.”

Just. Utter clarity of the definition between someone who doesn’t understand pronouns but still sees me as a person deserving of safety vs. someone who maliciously doesn’t use my pronouns as a way to communicate disrespect and thinks that means I don’t deserve to be safe
