Prompt #279
The planet is a porous thing, pocked with thousands upon thousands of seemingly bottomless holes. In the dry season, we tend to ignore them, but we dread when the rain comes and the pits fill up. It's my job to sit by the openings until the water recedes, armed and ready in case anything tries to come out.
(Wrote this for a prompt challenge, figured I’d post it again as its own thing rather than as a reblog for organizational reasons)
