5.02 Steel
Director: Don Weis
Director of Photography: George T. Clemens
“Sports item, circa 1974: Battling Maxo, B2, heavyweight, accompanied by his manager and handler, arrives in Maynard, Kansas, for a scheduled six-round bout. Battling Maxo is a robot, or, to be exact, an android, definition: an automaton resembling a human being. Only these automatons have been permitted in the ring since prizefighting was legally abolished in 1968. This is the story of that scheduled six-round bout, more specifically the story of two men shortly to face that remorseless truth: that no law can be passed which will abolish cruelty or desperate need--nor, for that matter, blind animal courage.”

Just like Marvel, there were a lot of amazing Black DC characters I didn’t have the chance to feature for Black History Month! Who are your favorite Black DC heroes?!

Issue 5# marked the end of "Time Warp", cover date May, 1980. The series had originally been meant to be a relaunch of the famous DC anthology series "Strange Adventures", but that plan was killed with the DC Implosion of 1978, when large numbers of DC title's were canceled. ("Union in Steel", "Until I Find a Way in Time", "Earth or Exile", "The Antaeus Strain", "The Vengeance of C-92!", "Numismatist", "Brief Encounter", "To Conquer the Sun", Comic, Event)

Seeing the surprised reactions when people find out Henry Cavill has been cast to play an autistic character has made me realize not everyone has been headcannoning his other characters as autistic for years now lmao

PAST
The village was small, a fishing village on the coast, barely more than 100 people living in brightly colored homes huddled against the arctic sea wind.  Now it’s a memorial to a massacre.  an entire village destroyed in a single night by a Grisha Inferni.
The lone survivor was Matthias Helvar,  only 5 years old was not in the village when it was set aflame.  He was not with his family in their final moments--  when Drüskelle commander Jarl Brum came for his younger sister Aina,  who was suspected of being Grisha.  Sylvia and Henrik were already considered dissenters for publicly protesting the burning of Grisha on the pyre.  They fought back when Brum came for their daughter and the Drüskelle warrior cut them down.  Upon witnessing such violence Aina,  who was indeed Grisha,  lost control of her powers,  the fire burned hot and bright,  consuming the village in seconds.  Matthias had been hiding in the woods outside of town,  feeding a family of raccoons he had secretly been bringing half of his dinner to in the evenings.  When he saw the fire he rushed to his home but it was too late.  Everything was burning.  Brum found the boy and told him the tragic tale of how a wicked Grisha attacked his home.  Brum had killed the witch but not before she could burn the village down and the Drüskelle had been unable to save even anyone from the blaze.
This was when hate entered Matthias’s heart,  from the man who had taken his family from him he offered Matthias a new family.  The Drüskelle,  holy warriors who fought to make sure such tragedies never happened again.
