Hopeful- why were humans so 'hopeful' about the simplest things!? 

Waking up in the morning did not change what happened the day before, and yet they make it seem as if life kept going even when the worst was ahead of them. 

"Did you think everything would be simpler today since we have yet to speak?" Harry stood near, trying to figure out what he would need to do or say to make everything right. There weren't many people he could call a friend, and this wasn't something he could just let go of. 

It wasn't just a fight I experienced with them, it was pain in my chest. Knowing you have hurt someone because of your inability to be more human for them.

On Kaleidoscope World, we use prompts to inspire standalone science fiction and genre stories from our writers. In the context of our collaborative setting, we use these stories to populate a fictional magazine called—you guessed it!—Kaleidoscope World. However, as standalone writing prompts, they really could be used by anybody looking to create a thematic sci-fi story. Go wild! The prompts featured here include special Pride, Valentine's Day, and Black History Month topics. The full text of these will be under the cut for anyone needing it.

Theme: The Search for a Kaleidoscope World! Prompt: Heaven. Utopia. Home. These are the words that launch voyages and sink ships. If we knew with certainty the Kaleidoscope World existed, we never would have come this far in search of it. For the first issue of the city of Earth’s favorite vintage pulp science-fiction publication, write about travelers and pilgrims who seek the titular, mythical planetary paradise—or about the people who find it when they’re not looking. Theme: Over the Rainbow Planet Prompt: Somewhere over the rainbow is a world of peace, love, acceptance, pride, romance, mystery, fantasy, and adventure. For this special issue of Kaleidoscope World, include reoccurring LGBTQ+ color schemes in a story OR write a LGBTQ+ protagonist in a classic plot from any genre. Theme: Rocket Summer Prompt: In the opening chapter of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles (1950), a rocket is launched in snowy January and creates so much warmth that winter is temporarily changed to summer in the nearby town: the ice melts, women shed their coats, and children go out to play in the streets. For the third issue of the city of Earth's favorite tales, write a story that takes place in a very hot climate or during this so-called "Rocket Summer." Theme: Year on a Black Planet Prompt: Afrofuturism envisions the world of tomorrow through the lens of Black identity and history, combining science fiction and fantasy with themes of displacement, liberation, and diaspora. From P-Funk to Octavia Butler to Black Panther, Afrofuturism has been expanding American and global philosophy and imagination for years. For this special issue of Kaleidoscope World, imagine a dazzling African city in the far future, a planet influenced by African culture—or let yourself be inspired by examples of Afrofuturism in music and art.

Hey there!

Firstly, a bit about me. Call me Apidae. I'm 27, nonbinary, and have been roleplaying for over a decade. I exclusively write third person, past tense, usually about 2-4 paragraphs (3-7 sentences per) but can be as much as the discord limit. I'm a huge fan of ooc chatter and will happily chat when too busy to roleplay!

I write plenty of different genres, some of my favorites are historical romance, high fantasy, and science fiction. But I've of course written things like post-apocalypse, pulp fiction, horror, and thriller.

Right now, I'm seeking a couple plots that I've been thinking about. These can be plots that I've had prior and done with another person, or things I've never done before.

Orcish Found Family: A human baby is found by an orc chief and taken in. We follow as she finds a place amongst the orcs and grows to be one of them. This is both an eventual romance (between the adult human and an orc she grows alongside) but also a heartwarming plot as this orc learns about fatherhood through an unorthodox way.

Fantasy Survival Inspired by a Webcomic I can't fricking remember: This surrounds a single person, starving, tired, sick, etc, who lives on the outskirts of a city. They know not to enter the forests to the east because it's protected by beings of ethereal beauty who possess magic. They keep anyone who goes there against their will, using them for labor and help. To the west, half man, half beast, with massive golden stone walls that prevent entry but an oasis within. Which will they choose to try their luck with?
